Aye you're right. Paulus was not a FM at the time of the mod starting. He was promoted long after his encirclement as a misguided attempt to bolster his resolve because "no German Field Marshal has ever surrendered on the battlefield". Obviously his resolve wasn't really failing, just that his situation was truly hopeless by that point and he was aware of reality. Kind of got done dirty in the base game making him a level 1 General with "cautious" as a trait as if the devs agree with moustache man (west) that Paulus was a worthless coward.
I also believe Paulus told them what he needed for a breakout and it was pretty much out of the realm of possibility. He also asked if he should break out multiple times but was never given an order by Hitler or Manstein. They would have had to break out an unrealistic distance because Manstein was nowhere near close enough to help. It pretty much just made him the scapegoat and expected them all to die or commit suicide because of the incompetence at that point.
No worries, Paulus. Everything will be fine with Steiner's attack.
100% agreed. Paulus as a level 1 general is laughable. The man had a hand in Operation Barbarossa, he led the 6th army to a decisive victory at second Kharkov, and was literally a week away from finishing off Chuikov, despite his men being poorly supplied since August, because of the German logistics bottleneck in the south. Which was also the reason the airlift failed, Goering knew the planes could do it, the problem was that logistics bottleneck meant they sometimes had to fly half empty or delivered propaganda leaflets, medals and…herbs instead of ammo, food and petrol.
@@mitchotoole9876
Probably just to fight to the last man. They couldn't expect much in Soviet captivity (given what Germany did to soviet PoWs), and every day he fought, he'd tie up several red armies and inflict casualties on them. Hitler probably had opinions for someone who didn't give everything for the Volk (in Nazi ideology, a person's life means nothing, only the people matters).
"Cautious" is not an insult though. They likely underestimated the Soviets, and didn't want a brave commander throwing a certain victory away. That was a mistake - he was too slow to secure the city. But that's a failure of command to put the right person in charge.
Same applied to the allies, e.g. when to use Patton and when to use Bradley.
@@vinccool96 Steiner could mount enough men for the assault. The Soviets have now taken most of Berlin.

I think this video demonstrates the reason why reserves are used. Sure, you don't have the same punching power on the front lines - but having units fresh and unengaged ready to respond to the enemy's actions is what wins campaigns.

"I am feeling relatively confident I can break them"
Famous last words
I gotta say, I love how your strategy to bleed them out was exactly what the original high command wanted before Hitler basically sacked all of them for yesmen. Halder essentially wanted to smash the Russian army in decisive battles and then capture the rest of the territory while Hitler decided to split up his already weak forces and attack in several general fronts.
Hitler was practically a reverse Napoleon. Instead of using defeat in detail on his enemies, he sets himself up for it.
A youtuber said (in a very simplified way) that the main difference between the german army and soviet army it's that the soviet generals where more successful in keeping their leader out of the military plans.
Wasn't Halder one of those generals who shifted all their blame on Hilter and Paulus?
TIK history talks about this I believe, where Moustache man wanted to rush the Caucaus region for its oil reserves, while Halder wanted Moscow first thinking they'd collapse like France
Halder was an idiot.

Bitt3rsteel realizing what a pain in the ass the Stalingrad scenario is:
This mod could really use a highlight for all the river crossings. I've also gotten hosed by not seeing a crossing while micro-ing elsewhere.
oh my god. that suffering was a hell of a fight. your strategic genius with the northern outbreak was planned of course 🤣
I would love to see you try more mods like world ablaze. They got bunch of new updates.should be interesting
"The endless micro is going to kill me"
Me: Microing the operations is literally the purpose of this game.
Oh my god “war criminal” is an actual trait applicable for field marshals.
blud won so fast neither the focus tree nor even the events could catch up
I love this scenario, and this video but I personally can't play it because it's just too utterly massive for me to have fun playing it, the deal breaker is the various river crossings that aren't part of contiguous fronts. That said, the kessel challenge map is amazing, and I love RP'ing as the trapped defenders in the pocket :)
fun fact.: Per William Shrier's The Rise and Fall of The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich, Stalingrad, shortly befor the battle was actually unoccupied and the Germans had a chance to take it without a fight but Hitler waffled on what he wanted the 6th Army to do and when he made up his mind the area was reinforced. Just funny to think one of the biggest battles of the biggest war maybe wouldn't have happened.
i always wanna see a follow up where u play the other side!
Nicely turned around!
Thanks!
Grass is a type of plant with narrow leaves growing from the base. A common kind of grass is used to cover the ground in places such as lawns and parks. Grass is usually the color green. Grasses are monocotyledon herbaceous plants.
The grasses include the "grass" of the family Poaceae. This family is also called Gramineae. The family also include some of the sedges (Cyperaceae) and the rushes (Juncaceae).[1] These three families are not closely related but all of them belong to clades in the order Poales. They are similar adaptations to a common life-style.
The true grasses include cereals, bamboo and the grasses of lawns (turf) and grassland. Uses for graminoids include food (as grain, sprouted grain, shoots or rhizomes), drink (beer, whisky), pasture for livestock, thatching thatch, paper, fuel, clothing, insulation, construction, sports turf, basket weaving and many others.
Many grasses are short, but some grasses can grow tall, such as bamboo. Plants from the grass family can grow in many places and make grasslands, including areas which are very arid or cold. There are several other plants that look similar to grass and are referred to as such, but are not members of the grass family. These plants include rushes, reeds, papyrus and water chestnut. Seagrass is a monocot in the order Alismatales.
Grasses are an important food for many animals, such as deer, buffalo, cattle, mice, grasshoppers, caterpillars and many other grazers. Unlike other plants, grasses grow from the bottom, so when animals eat grass they usually do not destroy the part that grows.[2] This is a part of why the plants are successful. Without grass, soil may wash away into rivers (erosion).
Evolution of grass
Grasses include some of the most versatile plant life-forms. They became widespread toward the end of the Cretaceous. Fossilized dinosaur dung (coprolites) have been found containing grass phytoliths (silica stones inside grass leaves).[3] Grasses have adapted to conditions in lush rain forests, dry deserts, cold mountains and even intertidal habitats, and are now the most widespread plant type. Grass is a valuable source of food and energy for many animals.[4]
Grass and people
Lawn grass is often planted on sports fields and in the area around a building. Sometimes chemicals and water is used to help lawns to grow.
People have used grasses for a long time. People eat parts of grasses. Corn, wheat, barley, oats, rice and millet are cereals, common grains whose seeds are used for food and to make alcohol such as beer.
Sugar comes from sugar cane, which is also a plant in the grass family. People have grown grasses as food for farm animals for about 4,000 years. People use bamboo to build houses, fences, furniture and other things. Grass plants can also be used as fuel, to cover roofs, and to weave baskets.
Language
In English, the word "grass" appears in several phrases. For example:
"The grass is always greener on the other side" means "people are never happy with what they have and want something else".
"Don't let the grass grow under your feet" means "Do something".
"A snake in the grass" is about a person that will not be honest and will trick others.
All flesh is grass: Old Testament book of Isaiah, chapter 40, verses 6-8. A very true observation of the present-day ecology. See the Miocene for the ecological relevance.
Grass is a slang term for cannabis (pot, weed, or marijuana).
Would love to see you play this scenario as the Soviets, to see the possibilities
does blurring the flag actually do anything? I don't see many other channels do that and on top of that you miss quite a lot of them, since you do not blur the flags showing on your divisions for example.
On that note, if you insist on keeping that flag out of your videos, just mod it out by replacing the image files of the game, like you already did with the flag showing on the top left, just do that for all of them, it's a bit of work to do but considerably less work overall then just bluring it in editing.
It's just to be sure. Ya never know when yt has spasms and starts taking shit down.
@@lebawsski with youtube having a history of making new rules apply to videos made where those rules didn't exist, I can most certainly see that it is reasonable, my concern is that what he currently does is not effective.
Blurring flags or replacing them doesn't matter in this censorship-heavy digital world. I used Germany's WarThunder flag as a placeholder for a small video I made and uploaded to Facebook, in order to be compliant with their Inappropriate Symbols rule, and I still got slapped with a back-to-back 30 day ban. I ended up going through the trouble of re-editing the whole video with the WWI Imperial German Naval Jack instead but never re-uploaded because if I got another back-to-back ban it'd just be a complete account termination.

November 15th 1942: just a little more to mop up, I've won!
History: oh sweet summer child...;)
Still though if Stalingrad did fall the Soviets would have lost 70% of their oil and would have to rely on Mass Infantry charges. The Germans would probably not be able to get any oil though still due to The Soviets blowing up the oil fields. But this may make the War into an Allied Victory with the use of maybe the Nuclear Bomb. (All of Germany and some of Poland is democratic) instead of a Joint Allied Soviet Victory (Yalta Conference).
The Cold war would not necessarily occur until much later (due to the Soviets not having any Oil until much later)
Keep up the good work
Wonder if you could do the whole world with this level of detail

For anyone who doesn’t know what a ww2 is here’s a quick run down
Pre-War (1936-1938):
The period leading up to the outbreak of World War II was fraught with tension and uncertainty. In 1936, the world witnessed the rise of totalitarian regimes, most notably in Germany under Adolf Hitler and Italy under Benito Mussolini. Hitler's remilitarization of the Rhineland in 1936, violating the Treaty of Versailles and other international agreements, served as an ominous prelude to the cataclysmic conflict that loomed on the horizon.
The Spanish Civil War, from 1936 to 1939, emerged as a proxy battleground between fascism and democracy. The conflict served as a testing ground for new military tactics and ideologies, with the Nationalists, led by General Francisco Franco, ultimately prevailing.
Mid-War (1939-1941):
The outbreak of World War II in 1939 marked a pivotal turning point in global history. Hitler's invasion of Poland in September 1939 prompted Britain and France to declare war on Germany, igniting a conflagration that engulfed the world. The period from 1939 to 1941 witnessed a series of rapid military campaigns and strategic maneuvers that reshaped the balance of power.
The Soviet Union, despite signing a non-aggression pact with Germany in 1939, found itself drawn into the conflict with Hitler's invasion in June 1941, launching Operation Barbarossa. The invasion sparked brutal fighting on the Eastern Front, as Soviet forces resisted the German advance, leading to unprecedented casualties and devastation.
In Africa, the war also saw significant engagements, particularly in North Africa, where British and Commonwealth forces clashed with the Axis powers. The North African campaign would evolve into a protracted struggle, laying the groundwork for Allied offensives in the Mediterranean theater and eventual victory in the region.
Late War (1942-1945):
The years from 1942 to 1945 saw the intensification of global warfare on multiple fronts. The Battle of Stalingrad in 1942 marked a significant turning point on the Eastern Front, where the Soviet Union halted the German advance and began to push the invaders back. In the Pacific, pivotal battles such as Midway and Guadalcanal shifted the momentum in favor of the Allies.
The Allied powers, through concerted effort and sacrifice, gradually gained the upper hand. The Normandy landings on D-Day in June 1944 opened a western front in Europe, leading to the liberation of France and the eventual defeat of Nazi Germany. In the Pacific, the tide turned decisively with the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, culminating in the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, hastening Japan's surrender and bringing an end to World War II.
After War (1946-1950):
The aftermath of World War II ushered in a new era of reconstruction, realignment, and Cold War tensions. The geopolitical landscape was redrawn with the emergence of superpowers-the United States and the Soviet Union-whose ideological and strategic rivalry defined the post-war era.
The establishment of the United Nations in 1945 sought to promote international cooperation and prevent future conflicts. However, the division of Europe into East and West, symbolized by the Iron Curtain, foreshadowed decades of ideological confrontation and proxy wars.
Domestically, the post-war period witnessed unprecedented economic growth and social change. The Marshall Plan provided aid for the reconstruction of war-torn Europe, while the GI Bill facilitated the reintegration of millions of veterans into civilian life in the United States.
Conclusion:
The years from 1936 to 1950 encapsulate a period of upheaval, resilience, and transformation on a global scale. From the rise of totalitarian regimes to the devastation of world war and the dawn of the Cold War, this epoch reshaped the course of human history and left an indelible mark on the collective consciousness. As we reflect on the lessons of the past, may we strive to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for generations to come.
