Collecting Addicts Episode 62: Bicester Scramble, Best YouTube Videos & Driving Gloves
Vložit
- čas přidán 1. 06. 2024
- With Collecting Cars present at Bicester Scramble, our Addicts recount their many experiences at what they call "the best event for people like us", from a McLaren 'full house' to a Can-Am Lotus; variety was the word of the day.
Our Addicts share their favourite CZcams videos, including U2 at Live Aid, some French hillclimb POV & more!
Significant debate is triggered in this episode by the question: "what do we think of driving gloves?". With Edward Lovett providing a quasi-poetic understanding of how they may be used, and Manish Pandey being offered a pair by Bentley never to use them; opinions differ wildly.
It's time to sit back, relax, and enjoy episode 62 of the Collecting Addicts podcast.
PS: We've heard your comments about sound mixing, and we've made sure that all segments are at a similar volume.

You cannot be serious! You can’t end this. It’s the best motoring show out there! Intelligent, irreverent, witty, eclectic old farts talking bollocks. Totally British stuff that I miss like crazy. It’s my connection back to the mothership. Don’t let it die, PLEASE. Mark in Shanghai
I really hope this wasn't the last podcast, my Friday mornings are not the same without it.
Yeah. What's going on?
Right as all the Newey stuff broke in F1 and everything they decide to go on holiday or pull the plug. Madness.
Did anyone else cheer out loud when Manish made his Ferrari announcement?
Absolutely
I even rewound to show my partner the moment 😂
"If you don't drive, they are just gloves" 🤣🤣
I shuttered with happiness when I heard the words "I bought the Ferrari!". Congrats Manish, well deserved and certainly wonderful to hear after the many discussion topics about it. Well done!
Neil taking the piss out of Manish and his driving gloves had me howling 😂😂
Anyone watching this video without at least one year's exposure will not understand why the other four and most of us burst out laughing.
I was the chap from Plymouth, thanks for recognising the task for driving from Plymouth, I arrived at 07:00 and had a great day, Chris & yourself were very hospitable with the hoards that were waiting to say hello and I felt you gave me as much time as possible, so thanks for that Ed. I have to say also that the TR7 (convertible btw) ran like a dream and the run did her well, I was impressed with the fuel economy too in all respect. I made a lot of friends on the day and it is the people with their cars and the story that makes it that more special, October scramble booked!
Cheers,
Good on you from the States
Keep loving the tr7, car love is the best
@@darrenkilby5007 Yes I do thanks, no upgrades just as it was back in the 80's and brings back so many memories
I salute you sir
What a great way to start the day.
Congratulations Manish on the Ferrari!
More podcasts please, gents. I feel like an 8 year old who has had his Saturday morning cartoons taken away.
Where is episode 63?
Nothing this week again ?
Edward thank you for your clarification on the Chesil, a couple of little issues, my name is Sandie with an N!! 😉 I bought my 356 in the states and imported it to restore it (when it arrived out of the box from California I think it had been painted with emulsion! Bless it... I don't own a Chesil it's a coveted thing that my BOYFRIEND (not married, once bitten twice shy) would like to see me driving in my 60th year. When you lovely fellas decide you need some female company... I'm happy as an ex motoring journalist for a very short while, a past owner of some lovely old cars oh and a massive F1 fan to join you! Take care SANDIE x
"You never drive; they're just gloves!" might be the quote of the 62 episodes combined!
Is the podcast over? Thanks for keeping us informed btw.
I'm so very Happy Manish got His Ferrari ... But I miss You All ... Please Carry On ... Your All now part of my Friday Morning Life. Your all Marvelous People
Such a shame they recorded this a little too late for the Newey Bombshell!
Indeed

Manish has driving gloves. I fell of my chair in tears from the reactions.
Guys, there was a tweet on collecting cars twitter; 'All good things come to an end'
If I could send one message to the lads; you are contributing to the conclusion of popular car culture if you get rid of this pod. It is the greatest motoring content ever seen on this platform. Please don't stop.
As Eddie alluded to, Manish bought a 456 so the podcast is over.
Missing you guys . I hope everything is ok ?
The only way to start Friday morning here in the States! My favorite dudes talking bollocks...I would love to hear more pure car talk and I understand their is only so much you all can discuss but the segments that we most enjoy regard personal experiences in your cars. Hearing about road trips, testing, races, buying, owning them is the really good stuff gents. Well done and thank you as always for your time and your character and humility. Always such a breath of fresh air
31:39 "Bra?" - C.Cooper😂😂😂😂
I love the new feature of picking favourite CZcams videos. Definitely a better segment with wider interest and possibly more educational/humorous than the music segment.
Excellent show as always gents, we appreciate you.
Come on Chaps , I need my Friday morning fix !!!
Just read that you've knocked these on the head. That's very disappointing, it was the highlight of my week, and the only thing that got me through some grim nightshifts. I imagine it all takes a lot of effort though. Thank you all for entertaining me for all these weeks, hopefully you'll pop up again in some less frequent informal format sometime, once you've realised we don't know what your favourite mudflap is.
What source did you read ?

Harris’ eyes when Neil is talking about his Hermes driving gloves: Priceless.
I do the singular driving glove all the time in my TVR.
On cold days my right hand gets cold due to being close to the open window while my left hand is kept pleasantly toasty by the heat radiating from the gear knob/gaiter.
However, on hot days the gear knob gets so hot, a glove is the only way to keep your left hand from burning, while your right hand is kept nice and cool by being close to the open window...
Manish - you have to do a vid on the 456 - a tour round it, you driving it, taking your fellow addicts in it... whatever. This is a momentous occasion - please share! Oh, and enjoy - they are wonderful, beautiful machines.
will be very sad if this is the last episode :(
Oh man, total heart breaker. Best podcast out there, but take my sentiments with a grain as I’m just a septic! Bring it back!
Missing the podcast. Come on gents
Yearning for this podcast to start back 😢
How much fun did you enjoy making that one?! Laughs all the way through. Excellent as ever. Well done on the new acquisition Manish!
I like to think that the guys ( Monkey in particular ) wouldn't leave us all hanging and just cut the feed? They're all better than that. We do need an official word though, particularly after 3 weeks. I feel bereft 😟 Was really looking forward to seeing more on Manish's Ferrari and the latest 2 car garage etc etc. Even my wife is hooked. I'll start rocking back and forth if there's no official word soon. 😞
I've literally be waiting eagerly (weeks) for these guys (collecting cars team) views on Adrian Newey announcement that he's leaving Redbull 🎉 where is everybody? Come on guys !
Leyton House chartered our yacht for the Monaco Grand Prix, our mooring was opposite the swimming pool. We had the Big Boss and drivers Ivan Cappelli and Mauricio Gugulman acting the goat onboard.
That was one of my favourite episodes yet! I laughed out loud several times.
Any ideas where they have disappeared too?? Not best marketing team ol CC... just sod off for 2 weeks. ..
Anyone tried the Collecting Addicts drinking game? A weekly thing for me...here goes again
Down your drink whenever the following gets said...
Chris: 'Bobbins'
Manish: 'Ferrari'
Neil: Mentions how poor he is on track
Edward: Mentions he's in 'The Family Biz' (Business)
Chris Cooper: 'Was talking to the boys about this'
I get some some drunken states...keep up the great work lads
They are normally not as good when you have all been on the sauce but this week was an exception. They are just gloves had me in stitches
Chris Cooper's one liners are timed to perfection!
JCB Hole filler inner..... Seen in action in Scotland whilst driving home! I was genuinely happy to be sat at the front of the queue waiting to pass it while I watched it literally work it's magic, what a superb piece of engineering and great to see in action 👏
Great. Look forward to this every Friday morning. Please continue. I am working my way through earlier podcasts to catch up from the start.
Even if behind a paywall, please bring it back!
2 weeks no Pod wth is going on
Manish's week in cars... Heartwarming 🥰 Congratulations!
Thanks for your great show, I love it. But please consider buying some semi-professional microphones as I can't hear you properly above 200 km/h on the German Autobahn... 😊
Completely agree with this, my only complaint of the podcast being the sound quality when listening in the car. Manish, you’re one of the prime offenders by sitting back in an echoey room, and you’re a film maker! Congrats on the Ferrari though.
I’m a big fan, just don’t want to miss another laugh out loud moment like “They’re just gloves”. Has to be up there with “We’re going to need a bigger boat” or even “he fingered her up the duck pond”
Thank you for selecting my 2 car garage suggestion and I'm glad you seem to have enjoyed the challenge. I am now very worried as my 2 cars were exactly the same ones Chris Harris chose. Very worried.
I’m 27 and this is the only reason I come on CZcams religiously to listen to you all speak
Samir……..you're breaking the car! 😂 just brilliant. Thanks Edward.
I've found my home, my band of brothers! Thank you Chris, Edward, Neil, Chris C and Manish.
Amazing news! I can't wait to hear more about the Ferrari in the coming weeks
Two best videos on youtube in my opinion: Chris Harris driving his E28 M5 and Peter Hook of New Order explaining how to play Love will tear us apart
May I add that I think Hot Fuzz is the best written, tightest movie ever! Not one line or scene isn't a double meaning. So good. Only downside is, if ever I hear someone say 'the greater good' I have to repeat it!
Hope there’s a podcast tomorrow can’t wait anymore
Absolutely Brilliant! Thank you
Simply the best car related podcast on earth....tip o the hat to you all on screen
Simply fabulous 👌 ❤
The opening conversation about Bicester Heritage reaffirms the reason why we love cars and love petrol. 😊 l don't imagine anyone 50 years from now salivating over a collection of old EVs!! Petrol forever. It's in our veins.
Outstanding! Thank you for keeping the faith!
This show is just plain great! Always!
Guys so appreciate listening to this on my Friday commute !
Why do we keep getting these unannounced breaks without any updates? Getting out of the habit of watching these now and feeling fine about it despite at one time feeling I couldn't wait until the next one.
Congrats Manish!! Loved the rib of your driving gloves by Neil! Feel like I am part of the group and have not missed an episode! Keep it going!
just when all the stuff in F1 got interesting, their show stopped! Would have loved to have heard their take on the past 3 races (Miami, Imola, Monaco)!
Two car garage idea!
You've stumbled across a time machine. It's in perfect working order and it just so happens to be programmed to take you back to the day of your 21st birthday.
After a quick Google search you're armed with the winning lottery numbers for that day and, effectively, an unlimited budget. You hop in the time machine, head back in time, and straight to a dealership to buy yourself two BRAND NEW (at the time) cars to bring "back to the future".
One car to drive.
One car as a statement art installation.
What are you choosing?
That episode was a riot. Good stuff.
Congratulations Manish from Atlanta, GA!!! More than one petrolhead addicted viewer of Collecting Addicts here in the South is excited to hear your amazing news! Oddly, we don’t REALLY know you, but the perversity of parasocial relationships is giving us sincere pleasure! Despite all that psycho-babble - it doesn’t diminish ONE IOTA all the positive energy that we’re sending your way! Well done sir!
Oh yes, one of the highlights of my week.
Brilliant as always!
Never met Manish. But I am very happy for a lovely chap who has bought his dream car. Awesome feeling!
I've been asking for an after dark Collecting Addicts episode where everyone's drunk for ages, thank flip you finally did it! Before you were a 10, but this is significantly better. I'm having a glass or three of wine and chuckling along, cheers fellow wheel nuts
What a great Podcast this is!! Congratulations Mr Pandey!! well deserved.
The pod is Addictive...I look forward to it all week and put time aside to listen to it first thing every Fri. Love it. As I've said before ramp it up a bit and start a TV series.
Yeessss Manish bought a ferrari no way!! Hope to see you sideways round a few roundabouts soon 😂 💚 most random statement of the day Neil Clifford saying "I've seen Michael Jacksons gloves" 😂
What’s happening guys ? This was the best thing on a Friday! My kindred spirits have dissappeared 😢
Congratulations Manish on pulling the trigger....Well done Sir! Happy motoring....👋👋👋
Give us an update guys, just let us know when you plan to drop episode 63? Please say you are going to return ❤
They’re just gloves 😂😂. Love it.
That Norma M20 video……Agh
Like Edward, it is what got me into youtube, I used to watch it on repeat with my Dad.
Inspired me to take up hillclimb.
Beautiful and savage noise and that little “moment”…….yes yes yes
Hope we see a new episode soon!
CZcams video recommendations are more appealing than driving song recommendations for this podcast. I'm too lazy to explain why, but it's true. :)
No news about episode 63
My Grandfather documented from collecting his Mini Pick UP in 1971, till he died in 1984. Fuel bought, road trips, every Xmas day he would try to drive to a piece of road he had never driven. The Pickup is immaculate still, I have the original steering wheel and that book in my office ( he changed the wheel because he was 6’2” to a Motorlita)
Congrats on the Ferrari purchase, Manish! Loved the way you broke the news, as it was so, "oh yes, btw, I bought the Ferrari!" Bravo Sir, bravo! 👏👏👏
You lot should drink during the podcast more often. By far the funniest one so far.
Whooooo Manish congrats ! Can't wait to hear more on the 456 😊
I sure wish I could be in Britain more often to attend the events you do and to chat with you fellows. What a joy it would be.
Driving Gloves - depends on the car, I wear mine when I take out the 57 MGA. The wooden/metal steering wheels get hot mid summer, and your hands do get sweaty. Definitely don't wear them in the car or van. That's just be silly 😂
Great start to the day. So glad it's out a bit earlier!
I'd love to get to Bicester, it's so far away from Aberdeenshire 😢
perfect excuse for a drive...... tho in the rain in a focus prob not so inviting :)
CZcams recommendations are much better! Thanks!
*Agreed re Bicester, it really has established itself as an excellent venue to wallow in proper old cars for a few hours, my upload took forever to put together due to there being so many gems there - including a Monteverdi and a trio of Gordon Keebles, amazing stuff*
Second week in a row I've forgotten it is now 3pm Friday and not 8pm Friday Melbourne time! Squeeze in the first half an hour afore the kids back from school!
Yes I’m in Sydney, but my alarm is still set for 7:58pm so you are not the only one
before
As always a proper way to start the weekend watching the CC addicts. For the two car garage, we imported a Daihatsu Tanto Custom RS from Japan (obviously) to the UK. So a Nissan GTR (as per Neil’s suggestion), which would be our 2nd choice… is all that’s left. Just need to find enough change down the back of the sofa to import it 😂
Congrats to Manish on the Ferrari, and thank you to all of you wonderful blokes for making me laugh out loud in total joy for the driving gloves section.
I've got a pair of snapback deerskin driving gloves, and I drive a sedan, or a saloon (WRX STI), depending upon which side of the Atlantic one resides.
It gets cold in the winter, and the leather steering wheel and gear shift lever take a while to warm up when it is freezing out. The gloves make for a much more comfortable driving experience as the car warms.
Congrats Manish! Good for you! And oh boy....that Bathurst and Norma M20 video recommendations......holy effing poop!!!!!!
Well done Manish.. Love your car purchase story
In the days of bakelite(?) steering wheels or others of a similar ilk there were two options available to keep your hands comfortable . Either you popped to Halfords and got yourself a laether steering wheel cover or you bought yourself a nice pair of driving gloves, string backed or otherwise for grip and comfort. These days a naked steering wheel is a rare thing but for older vehicles I salute the driving glove.
Ive said it once and I’ll say it again Best Podcast Period. This was a great one! Congratulations on the new Ferrari Manish! Ps please let your US fans/fellow addicts Buy your merch!!!! Ill pay for the shipping
Speaking of Porsches & items on them lasting. I’ve just sold my 968 Club Sport (on Collecting Cars) the exhaust of which has lasted for 178,000 miles so far. I think that’s rather good. Living the podcast. Cheers
Well Manish has just manifested the Collecting Addicts Calendar with that driving gloves mental image!
