Detailed GUITAR TABS for this song - enareths.com/product/was-woll...
Originally it's a traditional song of Brittany called "Son Ar Chistr" ("The song of the cider"), but also known as "Was wollen wir trinken" which is a German version of the song. Scooter also used a sample of this song in their “How much is the fish”.

This song is French, or rather two peasant brothers from Breton: Jean-Bernard Prima and Jean-Marie Prima.
Hey Eiro, this is just to say this song isn't German!! It's a song written in Brittany (France) in 1929.
And when we drink, we'll drink together, not alone!
Great cover, thanks :-)
All for one
Bier? 😂
When I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.
@@dejavu666wampas9 bruh 😂
Sounds somewhat Medieval, and like something out of Skyrim…something to hum to with a belly full of mead
It's actually a sailors song. I really get the pirate vibe from it.
The German text is about drinking mead 🤣
@@dabj9546 not quite, it´s a partisane song, people that traveld around and a generell folk song. You hear this often at campfire and such.
more out of the witcher
Pretty sure that theres also a version of this or a song very similar in the soundtrack to EU4.
If you’re ever looking for a song that you can listen to while: hanging out with friends in general or prior to or after battle, rescuing a damsel in distress, riding into battle, on a random quest to the corner store that sells your kids candy, climbing mountains or working out…here it is.
Don't forget fighting dragons also fighting dragons 😄
@@sheaross3124 that is one type of battle, yes!
I love how you switch from playing powerfully to carefully to playful. There is a lot of life in your interpretation.
It's a Breton song who came famous in the 70s with Alan Stivel's interpretation, it has been written in 1929, by two brother , an evening after working in the fields. the two brothers are Jean Bernard et Jean-Marie Prima from Guiscriff (Morbihan, Brittany) and the song name is "Son ar chistr" (Cider song)
Was it originally composed in Bretagne or French is my question
@@dummheit_gmbh9281 country : France
region : Bretagne !
@@dummheit_gmbh9281 In regards to the title, and also judging by listening to the 1970's cover by Alan Stivell (check it out on YT!) this is originally Breton - sounds awesome, like a mix of French and Irish !
@@stephanklein257 actually, it's (old) welsh-root with french-influenced pronunciation...
I thought the song had celtic vibes! Been listening a lot of Scottish and Irish music recently. Makes sense if it's from Brittany rather than Germany.
I like that the western guitar sounds so warm and full (which most doesn't, thats why I prefer classical guitars but this one has a really nice sound)
ummm arent classical guitars western guitars?
@@bm1259 I think classical guitars refers to nylon string ones? I could be wrong
@@bm1259 not sure how it is translated but in German you call them Konzertgitarren. I tried to refer to those.
@@befosocial like a Spanish guitar
@@theextremeloader1 "Classical guitar" is the term for nylon stringed ones, yes. Also I googled the term in german and it showed this kind of guitar, so I belive is the nylon stringed that they refered as classical guitar
Everyone talks about the song, but it is played so beautifully! Salute to the wonderful guitar player, well done! 🍷
I love the fact this is like
Martynas cover of "Hungarian Dance No.5" in G Minor - Lithuanian playing a Hungarian song by a German composer.
And here we have a Russian playing a gorgeous rendition of a French folk song, translated into Dutch and then adopted as a highly popular song in German.

And IIRC, it is originally a celtic song that gained popularity in Germany!
Amazing as always!
But, i would like to know:
How much is the fish!????
No one will ever know.
Does the fish have chips?
69 deutschmarks
Ah.. Scooters interpretation? Yeah! He's also German by the way.
Drei Mark Fuffzsch
The song Zeven dagen lang was performed by the dutch band Bots in 1976, Hermann van Veen translated the text into German for a wider popularity in 1980... still performed by Bots....and it worked! Great song from my youth.... long ago... and great fingerstyle adaption!
It's originally a Breton song from 1929, which Bots then covered
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_ar_chistr
later on "die Höhner" covered it (a carnival band from Cologne)
And now most germans know it from a eurotrash song by scooter called "How much is the fish"
@@Neysiriss Dont remind me please
Here in Germany it is a common drinking song. I really love your interpretation, thank you so much for sharing this art of yours!
@@danny9905 The song is originally from Britanny. Called Son ar chistr
@@kerdart351 interesting, didn’t know haha.
@@kerdart351 in Breton it is called Son ar chistr. In English it sounds like The Song of the Cider

Such brilliant playing! Hat's off mate, that was grand.
Eiro!
yasssss!! you've always been my favorite guitarist. Love your song choice and arrangements!
The sound quality is on another level. Great performance!
This is an absolute cover of a masterpiece. Well done!
I recognise this melody from a cover by the Swiss folk/celtic/metal band Eluveitie. I can't remember the name of their song, but it's great.
Lvgvs
Yes! I knew I recognized it! Thanks for the name
I was thinking the exact same thing, thanks m8

Like they said. Though Eluveitie has taken... a few liberties it seems with the verses.
Beautifully and smoothly done my guy.
GREAT playing, man!! Congratulations!! Amazing song, amazing skills!
I don't think I ever heard this before but what a lovely piece and performance!
I like how you put the energy into the transitions after the verse!
I've only heard the original a few times, and I only know a few different versions of it but I always keep singing the lyrics as soon as the melody starts...
Great job!! :D
Great song, great camera quality, great audio quality, just great everything man!
Wonderfully arranged. Bravo!
Son Ar Chistr
Beautiful arrangement perfectly executed, as always. I wonder, will you do an epic update version for "Ohne dich" like you did for other songs? Would be so cool!
This such a beautiful piece.
Totally awesome. Well played.
Puro talento! Saludos desde Uruguay 💪🏼🇺🇾

This was amazing. Thank you.
Fantastisch. Wunderschön gespielt.
Sehr schön gespielt! :D
what a great cover... thanks!!!
You played this wonderfully! Zum Wohl 🍻
Scooter - How Much is the fish
Most accurate fingerstyle guitarist ever 🔥🎸
Beautiful!!! Mesmerizing!
Haven't before but now that I have my life is better for it, amazing playing brother
One of my all time favorites. love when they play the version from a german medieval -folk band, at a medieval themed dance night near me. Its always a treat to sing it aloud with 50 other people, dancing all the while. Or in a smaller group around a camp fire.
Though I found it also to be a nice tune to sing or humm while hiking. Great rendition! congrats and thank you!
dArtagnan?
well played, my friend - great finger work! :)
Very good. Really enjoyed this!
Yes, when I think of it...it does have a folk touch, the song. Nicely done, as always
in the netherlands we have like a couple of dutch versions of this classic aswell
either under the title "zeven dagen lang" or "wat zullen we drinken"
check out rapalje - wat zullen we drinken for a good cover of the dutch version bots wrote a translation for in the '70s :D
I thought Bots song was the original and at first it was in Dutch and than translated to German. Is it not the case?
This is absolutely awesome
I was going to ask for tabs but it be in the description! So excited to try it out :)
This brings back memories of the years I spent in Hannover. Admittedly this is a much more refined version compared to what we sang.
Fantastic cover!
Remembers me to my younger days 😁
Greats from South Germany

I I have loved this song for years!
I think I heard something very similar on a celtic album once. Martin Carthy - Willie's Lady. Its interesting how connected and shared tunes were in history. Without a globally connected network to identify a song owner you could kinda adopt and share music and add it to your list of tunes to play without getting sued I suppose.
Good to learn about this song. It's always something I've heard sampled in other music (like the description mentioned "How Much Is The Fish" by Scooter) but never looked into. The song itself is a beauty.
Great cover❤ thank you
I would love if you uploaded this to spotify!
You’re absolutely right! I have heard this somewhere before. No idea where or when.
A gift to the ears.really do like this .it went into my top ten
Scooter-How much is the fish?

Hearing this inspired to come up with my own lyrics in italian! I don't have any way of playing it tho!

Well played!
This Breton folk song first became widely known when it was included in Alan Stivel's 1970 album Reflets. Alan is a French singer-songwriter who popularized the Celtic rock genre. I'm surprised to hear that it has also become a German drinking song.
Thanks a bunch, finally someone who recognizes the true origins of this song! It's an old breton song named "Son Ar Chistr", roughly translated "Cider Song" and was indeed made popular by the one and only Alan Stivell! :)
