    Bots is a Dutch folk-rock band. In 1976 they wrote the song “Zeven Dagen Lang” which was based on the Breton folk song “Son ar Chistr” popularised by Alan Stivell. Sadly the references to cider in the original version were lost in translation!
    In 1980 Bots recorded “Aufstehen”, a German language album, which included a German version of this song. The album was a success and “Sieben Tage lang” has become a popular sing-a-long in pubs and folk sessions, though it is generally known as “Was wollen wir trinken” these days.

      @brewen_lmrch Před 7 měsíci +3

      It's not.
      It was made by two brothers that's right, but they wrote that just to incite people buying their cider. It was in 1929 in Brittany, a Celtic region of France, and was latter popularized by German bands in Germany and Alan Stivell in France. But people don't give enough credit to the original song which was sung in Briton. The original song name is Son Ar Chistr.

  • @likeitout
    @likeitout Před 5 měsíci +1

    Guys. This isn’t German or Dutch. The song is a traditional Breton folk song "Ev Chistr ’ta Laou!" made popular by the Breton singer, Alan Stivel, in the early 1970’s. The original is sung in the Breton language, a Brythonic Celtic tongue whose closest relative is the Cornish language and Welsh.
    The Dutch band, Bots, stole the melody and changed the lyrics. They also sang this version in German for release in both west and east Germany.

      Either way, it’s a great drinking song

    • @likeitout
      @likeitout Před 5 měsíci

      @@vaguelymodest6239 Here’s the song played traditionally with Bombarde and the highland pipes (if you heard the sound of the traditional Breton pipes known as the Binu, you’ll understand why they’ve adopted the Scottish highland pipes in its stead). The style of dance is called in the Breton language ‘An dro’ which translates to “the turn”. Traditionally ‘Son Ar Chystre” was like all An dro songs in that the line repeats. So one singer would sing a line and a number would repeat it. Just like Bots have done with their rewrite.
      czcams.com/video/sUTl7RAI5Bc/video.htmlfeature=shared
      If you liked the melody to this, you’ll love many other Breton melodies. The nation is rich in its music culture and unlike their close cousins in Cornwall who’ve sadly lost much of their language music and culture, the Breton have held on.
