Okay, Iâve watched a ton of DIY hide videos, and I would 100% say these are the most impressive, and in-depth.
The funny thing is I already have almost all the tools for these because my spouse does model railroading and uses these tools to build and decorate their layout.
Keirstyn Karolyi thank you so much!! Thatâs amazing! đđ
âGentlemen. Make sure you vacuum your beardâ Classic đ id love to make fake boulders and slate pieces for my flat rock scorpion like this to give him a natural but safe habitat should he knock anything over đ
Jades Jungle yes!! Iâve found that these are pretty hard to knock over and are relatively light, so I think thatâd be great!!
This looks ahhhhmazing! Definitely something i want to do in the future. Tip, as a nail tech i can understand the dust issue, but you can find a way top prop the shopvac hose to the side or above (few inches away, no more) the hose while you're drilling to avoid so much mess at the end. Much love!
Ashley Marie thank you so much!! Yes weâve done that when we made hides inside the house đ
Corner hide for suuure! Love the structure of it and so would my Hog Island Boa, Hazel! :)
Just wanted to give my little personal tip - I used to use the Dremel to shape the piece, but Iâve found in my experience that using a hot knife, or even a soldering iron to melt and cut away any excess is a lot easier to clean up. Using the Dremel would make a huge mess whenever I would use it. However itâs still my took of choice when sanding down minor imperfections. I just wouldnât use it to remove a lot of material.
I totally agree and weâve since changed up our method! Way less mess!
They look AMAZING. Youâd never guess they were a DIY. đđ»đđ»đđ»
Thank you SO MUCH!!! My husband will definitely appreciate that compliment lol
Loved the dome style best! I would use it for my crested gecko Houdini.
Tawana Mahoney whatâs your Instagram hun?
@@BBsBeasties my instagram is Tawana Mahoney. Let me reinstall it right now
the hide for cheeks was so so inspiring, i had a vision of a sort of modern flinstones house style enclosure for a new little beardie but no idea how to start, these videos are amazing and help so much to bring my desert aesthetic to life while still being suitable for my lizard friend, thank you!!
Thank you so much for sharing with us. Iâve been looking for a diy hide for my hamster that isnât wood or paper material. Iâm definitely going to be building the corner hide with a platform and ramp
I would love to have a go at making a hide or two for my Froggy babies. Thank you for sharing how you make them. One day I might pluck up the courage to try making a hide!
Lana Deaton so exciting!! Glad I could inspire you! đ
How do these hold up over time? Do you have to worry about the grout chipping?
They're all super beautifulđ!! But my favorite is the Corner hide I would use it for my leopardgecko Ti amo đ and great video It was super inspiring!!
I absolutely LOVE this! They turned out fantastic!
Thanks girl!!
This gives me a really fun idea! Thank you!
This is amazing! Thank you for the video! I'm trying to my first diy hides for my snake and getting overwhelmed trying to figure out how to do it. This makes it so simple!
jeez, these look better than store bought hides!
Vanya Hulm thank you! đ
Definitely the very best Hides and Enclosure setups I have seen on CZcams
Patrick Collins thank you!
Awesome. Thanks for the tips
Great DIY. I love them. This is a wonderful video. Thank you.đđĄđ
THE COVE thanks so much!!
This is awesome! My fish would love something like this!
Ash's Cichlids youâd probably have to find an aquarium safe sealant, but Iâm sure these would work for sure!
This is very creative, amazing job, Bridget! :)
Toaster895 Aj thanks!!
He definitely is an artist!!!
Yay! I am so excited to see the video!!đ
thanks girl!! I love your support so much!
Love the video!! I have been debating on what sealent to use. I bought a grout a mortar sealer, but im not sure if i should just use an acrylic sealer instead.. im paranoid about it being toxic
I really like the log hide.
I adore the log style one! My leopard gecko David.Copperfield an eclipse. You know how to Make hides fun! Would love it for my baby
Your videos are so well put together, youâre very well spoken and the hides look fantastic!! Good job for realsies
Ragan thank you so much!!
Great video!! Made a jumbo sized corner piece for my Colombian boa for his new 125gal tank, since the biggest size hide was super expensive and still not big enough for the snake. Wish I could share the pic of the finished product, thanks again for the amazing vid
Matthew Jones thatâs amazing!
Iâd have to say he IS an artist đ
What sealant have u used on end?it is reptile safe?what total end cure time before allow to put to vivarium?are sealant safe to be used as basking spot? Thank you
At 15:10 you say heâs not an artist but this sure looks a whole lot like art lol
I love your videos soooo much
Very impressive!
Life Of Tony thanks so much!
Hello! I was wondering if these had some good weight to them, I'm thinking of making one for my ball python but he tends to flip his hides over so I wanted to make something he couldn't flip over easily.
im building a custom scene for my tank and this is the best video i have watched. Best proccess and best outcome for the job
Would it be safe to cut the foam with a hot wire? I keep tarantulas and I want to make some scenic backdrops for their enclosures but I don't want to risk fumes hurting them
these are the best DIY hides ive seen you have a very talented hubby , you should sell these
Alison Oxholm thank you! Maybe someday ;)
I love your videos đ
Can I use silicone spray as water sealant?
what do you use to disinfect it? can it withstand diluted bleach solution?
Nice job keep up the great work
Cristal Arrroyo thank you!!
BB's Beasties np!!!!
Hi, Iâm new to ur channel and I just wanna say I love ur videos.. you explain everything in detail so well.. You guys should sell ur hides, I would totally buy some!
I'm making one of these right now. What kind of spray sealant did you use? Is it better than painting on polyurethane?
Kelly Kearney yay!! Itâs the exact same product as the paint-on polyurethane, itâs just the spray version :) we prefer it because it makes the process 10x faster and itâs much more even and smooth! But both work perfectly fine!
Great video, Im super interested in making my own reptile hides in the future! I have a question though, How long do you wait until using the hides in your reptiles cage? And have you ever PH tested your hides?
Owlco thank you! Once the sealant has cured for 24 hours, itâs perfectly safe but I always wait at least another 48 before adding it to the enclosure :) And Iâve never pH tested them. Is there a reason why theyâd need to be tested? Lol
BB's Beasties I think the ph test is of people plan on putting it on water or if itâs going to contact water! Thanks for your response !:)
Owlco ahh I see lol I didnât initially think of that because I personally donât use these in my aquariums! I would imagine it would be similar to using other ornaments. It may alter the pH by a tiny bit but probably nothing drastic :)
Nice hides. You could use pond foam it would last longer. You do say the gaps " need" to be filled, why? The gaps are actually benefical. How? You may ask. Well the gaps would be voids to filled with grout to act as an anchor. In fact you could put many small holes say 1/4" in diameter, and deep all around the surface. The thinner the grout the more likely it will crack and fall off. Great ideas non the less.
Why'd you use spray sealant versus the pain sealant from the last build? Is it better?
Is this safe for fish and or semi aquatic amphibians
I would love to make for my bearded dragon. What measurement should I use for an adult dragon. Also thinking to do for my ball python. Any ideas on the measurement for her as well.
Sarah Buddin thatâs going to depend on the size of your enclosure and the size of your animals, honestly. For the dragon, make sure they can fit comfortably, without having to curl up their tail. For the ball python, make sure they can fit snugly, without being totally squished. Hope that helps!
I freaking love the hides! Your instructions are impeccably easy to follow... I'm just lazy. How much??
All 3
The corner style for my super giant leopard gecko đ
Hope Storey whatâs your Instagram hun?
BB's Beasties @gizmo_the_gecko_19 and my main is @hope18._
excusme, what kind of paint do u use? the light brown one. thank u
Denz Channel the color of the hides is due to the grout. The paint he used for detail is acrylic.
Hello, Iâm very interested in trying this method for making my own hides. As I think your video is amazing, but I was curious if you could maybe answer a few questions I had first? I was reading up on the sealer and it said it was not intended to be put in pet cages. I was wondering if you have ever had any problems with it affecting ur reptiles after it had dried, has ur geckos tried to bite the hide and been affected by the sealer in any way, or would you say itâs safe to use? Also, sorry last question, do you think this would hold up and be fine in a more humid tank for ball pythons? Thank you for your time and this helpful video!
Shadyabyss thanks for the feedback!! I havenât seen any issues whatsoever with using the sealant in my reptile enclosures! Once itâs fully dried/cured (which takes a minimum of 24 hours but I always wait at least 3-4 days), itâs perfectly safe! And none of my animals have tried to chew it! As far as humidity, if itâs for ball pythons, itâs probably fine, as that is more of a 60%-ish range, but if itâs for a much higher humidity environment, like having a constant humidity above 70-80%, I recommend the exterior sealant which is more oil-based :) The sealant I used works very well with humidity spikes but probably not for constant humidity.
BB's Beasties Canât wait to try and make some hides! Thank you, you are very helpful!
Shadyabyss awesome!!
To continue this question, ive waited 4 days and theres still a light smell and ive washed it and everything, thin i should still wait to put it in?
The corner hide for my baby bearded and then one of my leos when she outgrows it!!
My insta is caityg4792 forgot that part lol
I know this is an old video but I had to take a chance and ask: would it be safe to make hides for geckos from natural clay? (Meaning not polymer clay or anything like that)
I know you didnt ask me, but yeah I use air dry clay I bought on amazon and if you read the ingredients and ensure its non toxic you're fine, especially because you are sealing it at the end anyways
making sure it clearly states its non toxic is probably the most important thing though :)
Can we use these hides in a humid enclosure? đđđđâ€
How would you clean these? Could you scrub them clean without any of the sealant or paint coming off?
UmbreonLuv1 Iâve never had to scrub mine because theyâve never been pooped on, but Iâm sure they could be scrubbed gently. Just nothing super abrasive. Because I found it does flake a bit when I accidentally bump it or scrape it against something. I just clean mine with my regular disinfectant!
Random but love your lip colour with those frames
Thank you!
Would this be safe for button quail?
These are amazing! Great job! Do you think they would work for invertebrates (tarantulas, scorpions, etc)?
Roos Zoo absolutely!! The only difference would potentially be the sealant used. You may need one for more humid environments. The hides in this video can hold up to humidity but arenât meant to be used in SUPER moist environments if that makes sense. We used an indoor sealant on these specific hides but an oil-based sealant meant for indoor/outdoor use (if allowed to totally and completely cure before introducing it to the animal) would work best for those types of environments! Depending on the husbandry of that specific invertebrate :)
@@BBsBeasties Awesome, thanks :) I'm from Australia though, so would have to find an alternative to both. Also was the foam EVA or like styrofoam?
Roos Zoo itâs more like an insulation type foam! The type I use is made with polystyrene resin, if that helps. Itâs pretty dense.
Thank's to this is video đ
Im from indonesiađ
Do you think the varathane would hold up to the 50-60% humidity for a ball python?
Jared Greene it would for a while but it would be better to get an exterior sealant meant for outdoor use :)
Love the Corner one for my snake. Do you sell them?
Iâm sorry, I donât! They would be too expensive to ship and we also have a baby now, so free-time isnât very frequent đ
is something I can replace the
Polyblend Sanded Tile Grout?
markĂ©ta ĆĄpelinovĂĄ thatâs just the brand we use. Any sanded grout will work!
Hi! Would you say it'd be safe to use the same technique to make a water bowl?
You absolutely can, but I would suggest a different sealant! You'll need something that's meant for submersion in water, like aquariums. There are many to choose from, so definitely look into them and get what would be best for you :)
BB's Beasties thAnk you!

I know you have posted this before but what kind of Styrofoam do you use again?
mans really killed the fly with the dremel 11:39
My leopard gecko would love that corner hide.
Jen Lee whatâs your Instagram? :)
Alas, I don't have one. :( Do I miss out?
Jen Lee I need a way to contact you. Is there another platform you use?
@@BBsBeasties You can email me at instructor j c lee at gmail... without the spaces. I won a thing! :)
I would love the corner hide or the dome hide for my little leo Occamy! He LOVES to climb and those seem amazing! IG and Twitter @sarcasticghosty
can i use styrofoam instead of the foam you used?
Yes you can! I just prefer the denser foam because it makes less mess lol
Wow!!! I just got to watch your video now finally and your husband is super talented and what a good sport he is. I donât think my Mike would wanna go through all this LOL! But that being said I am @the_furry_friends on Instagram (duhhhhz) and I would love the corner hide - now that I am seeing it I would say it would def be for my leopard gecko.
He IS a good sport lol Sometimes I wonder if he'll every say no to this stuff!
I know Iâm late for the give away are you gonna do another one I need a corner hide for my beardie đ
LOL! I'm not sure if and when we'd do another giveaway quite like this one, but we do plan on starting up an Etsy shop at some point to sell them!
BB's Beasties ok cool Iâll be looking forward to it.
MzRelly itâll take us a hot minute lol we can also do requested hides if youâd like one soon. Message me on Instagram or Twitter if you want!
Is it safe for snake?
Also, you can use air dry kids clay and chicken wire from the hardware store
I tried this but the grout rubbed right off ... how did yours turn out after ?
Derek Charles did you apply the grout to a textured surface? It will not stick to smooth foam.
Yeah I did the same with the dremel and sanded the foam ...
Derek Charles do you mean that the grout rubbed off the foam without setting at all or it chipped off once dry? Iâm very confused here.
Corner style, for a young ball python Iâll be getting soon! When he gets too big (or if he already is) Iâll use it for my leopard gecko! He absolutely loves hides.
My username on Instagram is Samsfishies :)
I love this so much! The dome style is easily my favorite. Iâd use it in my new custom snake enclosure. Like I said on IG. @jeremyswildstudio of course. ;)
Is this waterproof
In all abt how much does it cost?
I calculated about $5 a hide! The initial cost of everything is a bit more, of course, but we can get several hides within everything purchased and then theyâre each super cheap at the end of the day!
I would want the corner style! And Iâd either use it for my african fat tail gecko or my foster uromastyx! My insta is @artsyflamingocreations
Dome style for my corn snake. When she gets too big for it Iâll use it for my tarantula đ @kezi.kat
Are these materials- paint, glue, grout, gap filler, etc. safe for the reptiles? I think these are so awesome! Job well done! I just always heard you have to be careful with glues, and such, as the fumes are bad for reptiles. I'm guessing they are ok though....
Phat Mama yes! As long as the materials are fully sealed and the sealant has been left to fully cure for a few days, youâre good to go! If there is still a strong scent, leave it to sit longer :)
@@BBsBeasties Awesome! Thanks so much! Love the DIY!
@@BBsBeasties could these same materials be used to make water bowls as well? I'm trying to find the best material to make some neat looking water bowls.
Carly Cook we havenât tried that just yet, but definitely go for a different sealant :)
@@BBsBeasties what would you recommend? I've never made anything like this before, and I can't find good natural looking bowls that are big enough for snakes to soak in.
can you make a video about making diy fake plants
Mindless Abby the only way I know to make diy fake plants is to use a clay base and add a lot of different fake plants into it, which I certainly can do :)
Can I pay for you to make a corner one?
Has anyone used these for fish aquariums?
Do you have a video of the corner beardie his?
Hide I meant sorry
I donât :/ we didnât record that one. But itâs the same exact method. Just way bigger lol
BB's Beasties ok thank you. I really like these. Iâve been searching for ideas.
Brittany Johnson thank you! I wish you luck! đ
BB's Beasties last thing I promise. Do you know about how many squares of foam board it took for the bearded dragon hide?
Love love this! Hubby needs to wear a mask though, my throat hurts just looking at that stuff. đ I think the corner hide would actually be great for my hamster, Voltron. đ insta @WonderPetChronicles

I mean this looks really good but like, wouldnât be cheaper to just buy one?
Raven Long absolutely not. A hide this size would cost $20 or more at the store. These hides cost around $5 total. And theyâre custom, meaning no one else has them, and they were made exactly how I wanted.
BB's Beasties dang ok
