- Good Morning, Reptilians! This week's video was mostly done by HUSBAND! Yay! :) Ha. He felt like Winter, the leopard gecko, deserved more climbing and exploring room... so he built that! Winter also got a new background, which I am in love with. Enjoy this DIY hide and leopard gecko setup. :)

I made it! I did have to make it bigger for a 40 gallon terrarium, but it's amazing. Thank you for the inspiration. I did add another hide for a total of 4. I'm still in the process of grouting and sealing but again, thank you!

@@ellesreptiles I have a leopard gecko in a 20gallon tank, I have an idea for a custom hide if you every think about selling any custom orders(: I would rather support a small buiness/lepoard gecko lover rather than a chain like Petsmart/Petco.
I was actually wondering the same thing!! Especially since I'm doing the same thing for my 4 bearded dragons. But its awesome to have something that's unlike anyone else's in the world! N a great feeling knowing u did it on ur own!!

I'm thankful u put this up coz we were having a hard time figuring out what was the safest material to use. U guys are lifesavers n my babies will thank u for it as well! I’m glad I’m not the only one who started to grout then switched to my hands…. My reason was because the stuff wouldn’t stick to the corners…. Then I painted…. Didn’t like it and repainted multiple times in certain places. Also I bought one sealer and THEN bought shellac hahaha this is NOT cheaper then just buying a custom one on Etsy however….. my son needed his perfect hide so I had no choice.

I’m following this tutorial and I don’t have a heated metal thing so I made a huge mess. If you break your vacuum cleaning it up like I did, a lint roller works wonders!
Could you tint and use Dry Lock instead of grout? I use it for some of my backgrounds and really like using it. I love the look of your layers. I will definitely try that!

I watched this because I wanted to make something like this for my Leopard gecko, the only thing I can’t do is make any sort of high overhang, because my gecko sometimes will jump off of things that are too high up. But this is cool and I want to give it a try!

Really enjoyed the video. Since you use tile, where is a good place for the the thermometer and under tank heating pad?
Having them stacked is why toothpicks and two builds. One for testing and one for using. Sounds like unnesecary work tho whenever two builds are used the final build almost always comes out with extreme precision.
One question with the Heating pad and the Tile does it affect the adhesive on the tile or it’s not hot enough to do much to the adhesive

I'm building a waterfall with a low basking spot using the same type of technique u guys used. I have it fully grouted and painted now I just have to seal it. I was wondering if the shellac is ok to use on waterfalls and still be safe for my beardies?? I want to get this project finished so my baby has it in her tank n I can then move on to finishing the huts and waterfalls for my other 3 beardies. Thanx for all ur help & advice!!!!

How would you clean the hide since its foam? I have the ones you buy from the store and I usually soak them in warm water with a little amount of bleach and thoroughly rinse it.
We do not have the same brands here in sweden as you do in US. What should i look for to know if a finish on spray is animal safe? If it's safe for aquariums with fish it's also good enough for my reptiles.

Very nice job. Going to give this a shot for my Daughter's new (and first) leopard gecko. One question I have, and my apology if you mentioned this, but how did you attach the structure itself to the tank? I would assume/think something like hot glue, but wanted to ask/confirm.
Awesome! Good luck! It's not attached, as it's pretty heavy - don't have to worry about it falling over. But you could use hot glue or aquarium safe silicone! 😊
Does the heat pad affect the styrofoam?

We built a total of 5 over the last year and they are all holding up like new. It was a lot of fun to build but it took days because of all the drying in between steps.

How much for a custom hide
Is there specific lighting that leopard geckos need for their tanks?
No, but you can put a very small wattage uvb if you'd like. Like a 2.5 or 5 watt uvb. Leopard geckos don't need them but depending on the leopard gecko you have it could benefit them, some leopard geckos don't like them. Don't put lights if you have a leopard gecko with red eyes because they have VERY sensitive eyes and it could potentially hurt them as i heard.
The safest is a heating pad & a normal LED light near the tank to see it (not directly)
What kind of reptile disinfectant do you use? 💗

Because of the risk of impaction. In the wild, they're not exposed to sand in the way that many people think

No specific reason, I just hadn't worked with DryLock before. I really do need to try it out though 😊

Elle! Dirt! The gecko loves to dig. Not sand, but clay based soil.
Yea, I use just plain, chemical free, manure free topsoil for my other leopard gecko (I've also used lugarti's in the past as well) and I've been thinking about adding a dig spot to Winter's tank too, after she's done with her semi brumation that's currently happening. She just doesn't show the same interest in digging like Percy (my other leopard gecko) did before I added her dig spot.
How much do you think your husband would charge for one like this but a little smaller?
Nice build! But I don`t really like the ground. Ik it`s easy to clean but tbh it`s not that "good" like a natural ground for them. To glitchy
