  • If you have had a combination boiler fitted, but still have a roof tank (storage tank) supplying the bathroom WC , wash basin and bath. Here is how to get rid of it and improve the pressure of your bathroom fitments at the same time.

Interesting Dereton33. I'd certainly be interested in watching the video where you retain the hot water cylinder but still bypass the cold tank in the roof. Thanks. You've helped me a lot with your past videos.

When changing to a combi do the radiator pipes under the floorboards need to be replaced? Thanks, great video.

I think power showers are incompatible with combi boilers, they still need to take thier hot water from a hot water cylinder.

Hi Al, we have microbore pipework to all of our 10 x radiators, and all working OK. All radiators hot. Need a new boiler and been told to have a combi, but worried about the pipework being able to handle it? The wife likes the airing cupboard to dry damp clothes etc. Would you personally play it safe and switch over to a regular boiler like for like to a Worcester Bosch 18RI? Our boiler is an IDEAL ELAN 2 and must be over 35 years old. Thank you for your advice.

Can you remove the cold water tank if there's still a regular boiler with vented heating system and a water cylinder? I assumed it was originally installed because of unreliable mains pressure.

    • @dereton33
      @dereton33  Před rokem +1

You would need to change the cylinder to a high pressure one. Also a pressure vessel kit for the F and E system.

In my passed my cold water is so slow is unbelievable same with the flushing the toilet I got a flexi hose in the flushing of the toilet and it just doesn't have the power with a high pressure valve so the flushing is never does the job I have changed the parts so many times and getting fed up of it

Hi I gave a question I’m doing my loft up flooring it new boiler has been fitted so the tank in the loft is just taking up space that I can use
Question is instead of just tearing it up and throwing it away , can I cut it into strips and use it along side the insulation ( put it under the insulation. Thanks

Hi Al, I have a standard boiler, with vented low pressure hot water cylinder, in a 1 bedroom house.
The loft cold water storage tank is a huge 50 gallon monster.
    signs of a leak appeared.
It looks to be from the bottom of the actual tank rather than any fittings or over flows.
Having read these tanks have a life expectancy of just 10 years, its is well passed 10 years, rather than replace it only to worry about it happing again, I would like to do away with it all together.
I currently dont know anything about the viability of changing the hot water cylinder from low pressure to high pressure.
For the time being, I had the idea of replacing the 50 gallon fo a small style like an F&E tank and use this purely to supply and receive the vent to and from hot water cylinder.
I was thinking I could link the current mains feed to the 50 Gallon tank directly to the out let feeds to the bath basin and toilet (replacing low pressure for a high pressure restrictor in the system) the shower works off the bath taps.
There is just one person living in the property.
My first thoughts were, such a setup would cause an imbalance on of water pressure to the shower, (which is already not that good) however that seems to be the only issue. (at least to me)
I wondered if you have an thoughts on this?
Appreciate your videos all give a thumbs up

The main problem is the cylinder will not take mains pressure it has to be tank feed only. You could change the cold feed to the basin bath cistern and shower to mains by cutting the feed in the loft and linking it to the mains inlet. You will have to change the ballcock in the wc, as it will be low pressure and you will now need a high pressure one otherwise it will overflow. The small F and E tank you want to use for the hot water tank is a little too small you can get a 40 gallon tank that will be better suited for the job. The balance for the shower will be off due to having mains pressure on the cold inlet and tank pressure on the hot side.

      Hi Al,
I think it was a case of both desperate and wishful thinking on my part.
It’s all happened late Saturday night, it was midnight before I’d shut off supply and drained the tank, and moped up.
My normal plumbing merchants were closed today (Sunday), as we’re nearly all others.
Couldn’t get a tank, but did grab some parts to play with.
      Worked on it all day.
I did mange to at least remove the faulty tank, and link up the cold so the only Toilet in the property can at least flush,
Also treated and bent back (without braking) the wet ceiling board and most of the artex before they dried out.
So it’s looking like I dodged a bullet there.
I will follow your lead and get a 40 Gallon tank and go back to low pressure supply to the whole of the bathroom.
There is room in the loft to raise the Tank platform a good meter up, I may now do that perhaps, that may help to improve the flow for the shower.
I was very thankful the issue was caught before the tank really split.
      Thank you for your reply
      Keep the videos coming.
      All the best
