- Watanabe is super cool right? Or maybe "super hot" is more appropriate, given his status as a Fire Tank! He'll be replacing Nanami: Starfarer just over a year after her debut, which in many gacha games in a long time, but in PGR it's a shockingly short time. I thought it'd be fun to cover it!

People might complain about Watanabe's new class and element but one thing we can all agree on is that his design is absolutely flawless.

@@megatbasyarullah4859 And to think Uncle has been actively handicapping himself all the time lorewise. Nightblade frame is actually his first frame and one of the very first Construct models. He basically doesn't use his actual empowered frame, Astral, because he left it behind in Babylonia(and never used it again after Fallen Star). Yet Nightblade Watanabe was the first character to clearly draw blood from Alpha in story.
Yeah, his look is definitely awesome. He's also definitely getting some kind of Pirate Skeleton coating, either Coating BP shop or FX, as well. I've also noticed that his base Fire FX colors COINCIDENTALLY match Liv Empyrea's upcoming Dark Fairy FX coating that's coming out next patch on Global. IT COULDN'T POSSIBLY ENTICE PLAYERS TO TRY TO GRAB LIV'S NEW COATING NOW COULD IT?!?!?! XD XD XD

The lost potential of a full Gray Raven team is the biggest tragedy here, could have been so cool like Cerberus, I really hope Kuro have a big plan for the OG Gray Raven team in the future.
The original Gray Raven squad is basically Alpha and her old teammates...
It's more suited to call the Gray Ravens now as the current Gray Ravens...
Correct me if I am wrong but there seems to be a pattern with how Kuro set up the elements in Gray Raven. There are always 2 matching then one different.
-Palefire, Lotus = Fire, Eclipse = Physical
-Entropy, Luminance = Physical, Plume = Ice
-Lux, Dawn = Lightning, Entropy = Physical
-Hyperreal, Empyrea = Fire, Plume = Ice

I repeat the community is not mad about the "powercrep" happening right now it's because there's many slots to fill him on the roster but they really put him on the one that's already completed! Atleast fill in the slots first before doing this because it's really unfair for the other teams!

@@Yurika-riethe thing is, as of now, even S rank watanabe doesnt improve fire team warzone by that much (source: bili2 vid posted on fury community post). Only adding 400k point on warzone fire. The main problem on the fire team is not the tank, more on the 8s cooldown of lee hypereal making him weaker that the rest of 2nd gen attacker.
@@megatron5592Well, even if they remove the 8s CD on his Core, it wouldn't solve anything since he doesn't have enough Orbs for his 2nd DMG cycle anyways
What should happen is either give him his Timestop on his 1st Ult again, or remove the 8s CD on his Core + give him random orbs while he activates it (preferably should be enough for Double DMG Cycling)
The thing with PGR, when a new character power creep an older character, it doesn't mean the old character becomes bad. Nanami Mech is still a really strong character. You don't need to replace her if you don't want to. Think of it more like an optional, some people prefer Nanami, some people prefer Watanabe. Nothing wrong with that. Play whichever you like, it's your game after all.

S Watanabe with sig weapon beats SSS+ Nanamech with sig weapon, and by a landslide, he's very far from "optional"
That is surely a good copium take. While entirely accurate there was literally no good reason to replace a very new unit so quickly. Regardless of 'play what you like, not meta' sentiments he does outright wreck her and as someone who loves Nanami...sure, I'll still play her but it will feel like ass just being inferior for no good reason.

I am reminded that there is still no A-rank fire tank in this game. Very puzzling. I was convinced long ago it would be Noctis, but things did not play out that way.

Glory also came out without a set to call his own, while Rosetta came with Leeuwenhoek and Luna came with Flamel prior to Glory's debut
Sadly Tankanabe means we will not get a Fire tank Lucia to complete an S-rank Gray Raven Squad of the same element
for now I hope the future S-rank ice member is not only an Attacker but a new Kamui frame just to have a full Strike Hawk team with Chrome and Wanshi

My only disappointment is that I wanted Lucia to be the new fire tank to complete the GR team. But with things as they are, it looks like I'm going to be a fire team main in the future. Not for the meta, but for the drip.

As a certified male character enjoyer, I was so happy that Watanabe was getting a S rank. I’m a massive Rosetta and Chrome fan and Plume enjoyer I was both sad about their retirement but hopeful about a meta Watanabe and the ice team come back
This is a total shock and while Rosetta and Chrome are my joint number 1s, Nanami is my first love. I picked pulse from the selector and have never regretted it. This makes me so sad. I hope she still gets skins, it’s the only thing that’ll soften the burn (pun intended)

Conflicted. Cuz Nanami and Watanabe are both my favorite characters, and it's a little sad for me another character who is also my fav replaces her meta-wise. But again I dunno if there's really much of a difference and it's still a long time before he releases so the feelings will pass. On the bright side, I'm so happy Watanabe finally has his own S rank frame. I've been an Astral main for several months now (idk how long), and been wishing for his S rank frame!
Seeing Watanabe new frame and praying to see him more in Story make me wish for a new Rosetta frame just to see her again in the main story (I'll even take a side story for her)

I'm honestly still torn from the reveal but I am happy that our Uncle finally got the S Rank treatment he deserves after almost 3 years.
Leaps make some characters more interesting or give them a little buff. My main issue with Leap system is that IT IS WAY TOO FLIPPIN EXPENSIVE for the how little of an upgrade it provides for characters.
I wish leap upgrades weren't as expensive, that way it can balance the benefits.
Little of an upgrade? man, they got a lot stronger, Lee Pelifire when he received his upgrade he literally became a fire god. some of them actually got broken. but of course they won't be stronger as new characters in the meta.
and the rank s gain the possibility for you to farm shards and possibly put them in sss
I wouldn't say that the upgrades are underwhelming, the leap system changed some characters in a good way and they got a LOT stronger, but it's still way too expensive though
this, i just found out about leap system and find i got 6 un and like 4 cons to leap and it depress me greatly lol. they do give us that un stage to farm but any idea where to farm the cons part?

And for me if Kamui comes back with his third new look frame I think i rather prefer him to be either a ice and attacker type or a lighting and amplifier type but I think I prefer the second one because we really don’t have any male characters how are amplifiers

S 21 is already lightning amplifier,so i doubt a new one will come that soon,it hasn't even been a year

I do agree with ice DPS bur for now amplifier role for each team has been filled so I don't see any point to release another new amplifiers but since this is the beginning of gen 3 so who know.
Totally agree about the goal for Leaps being fun gameplay for the silent majority of casual players. Very similar to Mod3 in Girls Frontline, where they weren't to make legacy T-dolls relevant to the competitive meta again, but to catch them up so they can clear Everybody story content and get some really cool refreshed art as an extra perk.
Its kinda sad that Noan is overshadowed in his own patch by this news.
Noan already got overshadowed by the fact he is an Un right before a major character debut, Watanabe heating up more debates just makes my boi more forgotten sadly
I was hoping he would be a Physical Tank because Bianca Abystigma and Alisa only needs a new tank to be a fully functional new gen Physical Team. Even a new ice attacker or tank would be nice coz it's sad that Ayla is the only new gen unit for ice team.

well right now, im only been focusing on slowly upgrading Lee, Lamia and rearranging bianca's build in my cn but on my fullest opinion on this upcoming patch, Is that Im hype for watanabe's new frame but I just kinda didnt expected for him to be a tank type, I thought it'd be an attacker since Nanami was already my target on my fire tank team...
I mean according to most of the global gacha games logic , a character outperforms another within 5-6 months most of the time and here we can literally see that Nanami gonna still give us another 1.5 years of service. So I am not really complaining, even though I expected Watanabe to be an ice tank or dps but it's alright
Major thing that caused this whiplash was community expectation, meta demands and the usual Kuro pattern of giving around 2 years of shelf life for units. And some characters were replaced even within that time window of 2 years in PGR before, one such case being Wanshi getting replaced for Ayla as the Ice Healer(totally justified tho)

I can only gauge the "feel" of a meta once i'm experiencing it after all. But if the CN bros are having similar reactions, i really respect them,because after all they are living in the epicenter of the changes.

The point about leap being for new players doesn't make sense to me. To begin with leaping a character is expensive for old players, so there would be almost no way a new player would be able to leap a character so the only players who would be able to do so would be old players and even then it takes a while to do. And i dont know how much more fun will an old player find a newly leaped character since despite the changes new characters are more fun and the core gameplay of said leaped characters isnt much different from what they were before the leap

I don't really have a problem with uncle getting a new frame: it looks amazing, and he's sure to be an awesome addition to fire. I pull for everyone anyways, so it's not like i lost anything out of this, but as you said, Lucia Plume *really* feels bad to play right now, and i would love something to spice up the ice team.
I ain't skip Uncle after waiting 3 years man, he's the reason I'm staying in PGR because Dagger user are my favourites.

Don't really care about meta or what anybody thinks. Been playing by favorites since the game launched
I got lucky with starfarer during GL anniv's 100% rate up banner for older S rank omnis (at pity 30, got her with only the 2.5k event r&d ticket from the logins) so it doesn't affect my pulling plans too much. On one hand I'm kinda sad that my girl got outclassed so early (you will be missed :'D), but on the other it made me thought of fun comps that I can do with starfarer and new wata so I don't get bored easily (double tanks + empyrea, only double tanks, etc)
So yeah in short I'm extremely scared to think that Kuro doesn't really know where to go with the realeases of S ranks... Or they might just be cooking af as you said, if that's the case then it's fine haha

I got Starfarer as my Fire Tank a few patches before; I got her after 30+ rolls in the debut banner, and then I got her weapon after 20+ rolls. I haven't resonated her, and she's still S Rank, but I have a lot of fun using her.
Seeing the calendar for upcoming patches, I was prioritizing obtaining Hyperreal soon, while saving up BCs for Scire's Idol Skin, since I also have to get BRS (I would, at least, get her to S Rank or SS Rank plus get her weapon). Maybe I'll have to skip Fire Tank Watanabe, but it's not too much of an issue for me.
What matters most to me personally is that I'm having fun with the characters I have, and that I'd be having fun with the characters I'm planning to pull for. That's something I like about PGR's global gap at least: I get to plan ahead, and I'm guaranteed to get the character I want.
Nope, I'm not too iffed about Fire Tank Watanabe, but Glory and Plume deserve a buff at least, or a Leap system (unless Kuro is COOKING something hella tasty).
As a new player here in global, it's kinda sad to try to build a team but know that in a few months there will be new characters that will easily power creeped mine. I wish they made leaps such that the leaped character would still be very close to the new meta character. I don't even want to leap my luminance now considering how much it costs. Also, I completely forego the ice team cause the team is so old 😔.
You can run bambinata/double ayla as your ice team once the new ayla frame drops, you can sub in wanshi as well instead of S Ayla atm, that's more than enough to get you started till Qu comes + future ice team members.

My first impressions on it were light, but the more and more I thought about this situation, the more I ended up thinking that it will cause more problems than just for people that care about "meta", I have written a comment about it in reddit which I will repost here with additional stuff as well:
In this specific case it isn't really a big problem for me since I love Nanami a lot and play for waifu>meta, but these things can even be problem for people that play Waifu/Husbando>Meta and I will explain how:
No.21 is my second favorite character in the game, with the first being Sophia, now imagine how I would feel if they released a new Sophia Electro Amplifier frame when Feral Scent 21 didn't get much use.
If they keep going this route they went with Watanabe it is something that can happen with anyone in any patch, it shouldn't be something only meta players are worried about, you that play for waifus or husbandos should also be worried about having a new frame of your waifu/husbando disputing the slot in your team before you even could even get to use them properly, its not good for anyone really.
Even if I tried to really go against meta and use two amplifiers of characters I like to do warzone and such things, I would still be shelving another character in my comp sooner than I should, that does not give a good feeling.
The new Watanabe looks fun and his design is good, its that he having a powerful and unique SS3 and he replacing a gen2 tank when there is only 2 of them and there is still 3 comps needing new gen2 really leaves a bad taste in my mouth, the solution to Nanami does not need to be a leap, they could just buff her like they did with Selena multiple times, give her a time stop on Sig1 as well and make so she can shred without relying on Einsteina or copies.
She got 1 and a half years of use. Relax. But it is a tad disappointinh

I had the same discussion too that BRS collab is happening. Kuro could've thought oh hey fans come in and get BRS, with the standard banner change from Lamia patch get Soliv with blue tickets, and then the following patch pick up Big Wata for a fully optimal fire setup for their BRS. I still understand the disappointment others have with his role, but he's still really cool and I await for the sound team to work their magic for live.
As a whole though since we know Qu is the next S-rank more people may be on edge that she's ice. It's not impossible they pull a Ruined Sea scenario where they deliver new Ice Attacker Qu and a leap for Glory for a semi 2-for-1 deal like with Balter + Rosetta leap, but people may just want direct replacements at this point. Plume + Glory being so old and no leap upgrade coupled with the community hoping for a new omega weapon Lucia frame eventually.
Soliv, Gundami, and Selena always felt vulnerable due to no SS3 upgrades anyways, granted selena got several free buffs and free too SSS...eventually. Hopefully the upcoming Qu, anni, and cny series of patches satisfy others.
I'm happy with uncle, but man after AC6 I need my playable Radiant Marcher already Kuro. You don't put that much work into his playable mode in Ayla's patch to never fully polish and have him be a permanently playable option so where is he LMAO. I'm still expecting Lucia might not be until 5th anni as that would be a huge milestone for her, Kuro, and PGR...or maybe she drops in a patch near Wuthering's official launch that could be cool too.
but it got me wondering why fire is still labelled as scuffed, when compared to current dark and lightning even with a gen 3 fire tank. Is hyppereal that underwhelming when compared to lamia/weave?
As a new player I got rosetta on the past free S rank selection and alpha as my first character pull. Now I came back because of new Bianca and luckily I got her early.
Now I'm hype for Qu and the Main Story as always.

Nanami is still a smooth and fun frame but is hard to use against humanoid enemies

I started with PC client and Starfarer was my first S rank I got in a lucky pull before I even really knew what I was doing. She then carried me through story, WZ, PPC, you name it. I know a game like this sort of has to power creep in new units so people will spend but it does make me a bit sad. I like Wata and I'm glad his new frame looks good, but I will never forget Nanami.
I can't wait to see what Kiriteru will do with Watafire.
In the long run, we can expect the game to go on for at least 4 more years. That means there is plenty room left for gen 3, 4 and 5, so i'm not worried about ice team being left behind.
What makes me feel weird is how ppl take meta in this game when there's not pvp. The only "pvp" is ranking

Imo they should add a new element, light and water being the obvious options they could add, anniversary is a great time to announce that, have the new s rank after watanabe be a free s rank attacker and after that have the new element start getting characters.

Kuro doesn't know how to balance between element units and went to powercreept route for revenue. People can say waifu/hasbando over meta, but endgame design will eventually force you to invest core meta at some point.

It could actually happen, because it being an action game. and as icing on the cake watanabe will have the mexiacan outfit that you can get in mgrr. XD
My theory is that after Qu comes out Wanshi will be our next ice tank. Chrome glory is really old at this point and Wanshi was already an ice character and since we have Ayla as an amplifier this makes the most sense to me.
A few days ago, I played and now I'm using Luminance as DPS while waiting for Bianca Zero from login. Currently, both the Black Card and Event Card are still at 9K. Should I try gacha for Bianca Abistigma or Alpha CW? Also, how many black cards can I obtain per month in this game?
You definitely will have enough BC to pull for both Bianca and CW. As for how many, you can get approximately 1.2K every week not counting events and story if you make sure to login and do dailies every day (So that would be 4.8K or more depending on what events and other BC/EC giving game modes are available)

Lots of Gen1 replacement candidates (some of which are about 2 years old) and they decided to replace a Gen2 fire tank thats like year old instead.
Not only that, but there's still no A-rank fire tank. I'm disappointed with what Kuro is doing.
I absolutely adore Mechananami, and I was almost upset by this news. Knowing she at least has over a year in global is reassuring. That said, definitely not gonna going for her SS3 + weapon now. Was planning on it when I get Hyperreal, but the value would be lost sooner than expected

I like Watanabe to be honest. I always liked the Forsaken as a group, which to me feel more realist than the others, but they along with Watanabe get tossed aside relegated to minor appearances.
Pretty much my thoughts on them. They're not as colorful as some other characters, but that's why I like them. It just also fits better in the dire post apocalyptic setting.
I think a lot begrudgingly love S Watanabe rn and it’s just going to take some time before him being a fire tank will be accepted

I didn't really consider it from a new player perspective. thinking about it, I don't think I would be playing pgr or stay for long if I were a brand new player instead. the only reason I can keep up as f2p is by already having built up teams and accumulated resources from playing the game since launch and by skipping uns entirely. saving bc's in pgr is more of a pain than it really should be since since its genuinely the only gacha I've played where it really feels like there's zero rate-up(I've never pulled a 5 star outside of hard pity as well as even losing several 80/20's on weapon banners) so I end up spending more bc's than I'd like.
I would really like for Kuro to introduce a new element to the game bcs there are way to many characters that players love and want them to be meta for the only 5 elements that are currently in the game but that would also mean characters might get boring for being in the meta for too long like Lucia, Glory or Rosetta(i personally don't mind).
Still i think there are more pros of having a new element than cons, bcs having a character removed from meta too soon is way worse than having a character in meta for a long time.

It's gonna work great because those three together are the optimal Fire team!
Seeing the beta, Watanabe is really a cool fire tank and in terms of story, I'd say it's worth it to have a frame like that, but I'm probably sticking to Nanamech because Nanami is my favorite character (and Live). Hopefully, if I do get Watanabe, I'd do a combo with 2 of them.
Additionally, as f2p who is also doing a bit of leaderboards, I'd say it really sucks, and I hope it won't be a repetitive thing that Kuro will be ever doing in the future because I'm still planning on pulling Nanamech for fun reasons.
Tbh I’m not mad about this, mainly cuz at least in PGR, pretty much every single unit in the game is useful in its own way, they all are unique and cool to have, even the outclassed and power crept units can come in handy in modes such as babel or Norman. Plus I personally prefer it if Lucia replaces her plume unit as an ice attacker just like how Nanami replaced her own older tank units, I’d like her to still have a role in gameplay as the main character( I know Alpha is also Lucia but still her path is kinda separate from the main character role which is Lucia plume atm), or some actual new characters to be added for the ice team like the merciful one or some other story characters who haven’t got a spot in gameplay yet.

A secondary fire team would be good. Main fire would be Emp, Wata, Hyperreal and secondary would be Sofia, Nanamech, BRS or Palefire

He looks incredible (sicknasty indeed), but I do wish he'd been Ice. I get the new player tank for BRS and don't disagree, just seems really odd to replace Nanamech when there's still 4(?) gen 1 frames in team comps.
