Thanks for all the incredible updates. This just keeps getting better and better.
I know you know this: but you are a genius. What an amazing piece of software you made. Cheers to your success my friend!!
Thank you! Happy switching!
@@AdamTow I purchased the software this morning. Now, I gotta buy the Extreme version because the Pro ISO I have doesn’t have SuperSource which is why I bought your software for. But I knew that before buying your software. But your long term commitment to supporting the software made me bite the bullet. Job well done my friend!! 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Great video Adam. I will have to watch it a couple more times!
Great work! Thank you for your efforts and I will be checking this out!
Amazing! I look forward to adding this to my workflow.
That is just BRILLIANT Adam. I just got my extreme ISO yesterday, and I’m absolutely getting MixEffect.
Bought it.
Thank you! There’s full docs available at docs.MixEffect.app for you to get the lost out of the app. Definitely read the section on SuperSource as it explains a lot of the power features such as Locked Box Sources and SuperSource Macros.
Thank you very much for your incredible work.
Great piece of software Adam! I got the MixEffect Pro and combining it now to Companion and this solves lots of issues I had. Thanks a lot.
Great job on this app. Magical!
outstanding product and fantastic presentation, Adam!
You are a genius!! Thanks for this app!
Awesome product Adam!
the UX is magical
Brilliant App, Thanks!!
Brilliant love the app 🙏
I cannot wait to try this - wow
Just bought it today can’t wait to use it
Thank you! Let me know if you have any questions. Definitely check out the docs at mixeffect.app/docs to learn about all the features in the app.
@@AdamTow thanks. I will :-)
This is absolutely genius.
Thank you! Happy switching!
Hey Adam! Gary Cruz here! I'll be buying this and trying it out tonight!
Good to hear from you! Which ATEM do you have? If you have the Extreme or Extreme ISO, you're going to love using MixEffect to make your SuperSource layouts.
@@AdamTow Good to hear from you too! Extreme Iso. Playing with it now. Very impressive!
@@AmazeStudios Thanks! Let me know if you have any questions. There's also a MixEffect Facebook Group and Slack that you may want to join: mixeffect.app/community. Hard to keep track of comments here on YT, you know.
Dude you rock. Bought the Pro app and will be diving into this ASAP. You do interviews ever?
I have done podcasts and YT interviews before. Enjoy the app! I have more videos that go into the latest versions of the app on my channel. A lot has changed since this video you just watched!
great video
Are there any limitations to use MixEffect-App on a M1 Mac? Thank you!
Very Nice. Wow
This app looks so enticing it’s making me want to buy a switcher I have no use for just to use it😂 seriously! I actually use a tricaster 8000 at work with two novation launch pads to trigger macros which have minimal visual GUI reference beyond color coding. I would love if there was an app like this for my 8000!
This I did know how to do, but it's great to get that info out there. Now if only someone would build an app that would connect the Stream Deck with all the triggers to MixEffect without a computer 😜
There are Raspberry Pis that can control the Streamdeck. If you just use the stock OSC commands, it should work with MixEffect. The native module, on the other hand, needs to be compiled for Pis.
Right... There is that. I have a computer for it. Just dreaming of an iOS only control solution 💭
Is this practical for an ATEM 1 ME Production Studio 4K Switcher? I assume there is no Super Source, but will the macros work? Can I display more than 2 sources in a composite window?
Most everything you can do in ATEM Software Control for your 1 M/E Production Studio 4K you can do in MixEffect (big exception is camera control). So yes, macros and the USK DVE for a single PIP box.
Hello, first of all congratulations for the application. can i control the atem on the ipad with your application or do i need the computer? my atem is connected to a router! sorry for the english i'm from Brazil!
You don't need a computer to control the ATEM with your iPad so as long as the ATEM and iPad are connected to the same network. It's always good to have a backup though, so I would keep the laptop on standby. There are also a small number of features that ATEM Software Control on Mac/Windows supports that MixEffect currently does not, including Audio Equalizer/Dynamics, full camera control, HyperDeck support, and some switcher settings.
Will it possible to add videos or PowerPoint files some day ? It would be great to have the option to scale the camera sources to get rid of the corners in one full screen camera source
What do you mean by the corners in the one full screen camera source? There's no way with SuperSource to go beyond 100% size. If you need that, I suggest using the DVE upstream keyer. At the moment, there are no plans to add videos or slides. There is an app for the iPad called LiveApp which lets you play videos from the iPad connected to HDMI. Or you can use Keynote for slides.
One other question: for video follows audio, is there a way to set it up so that when 2 or more of the microphones are registering signal at the same time (multiple guests talking at the same time), the video switched automatically to the wide shot camera?
Unfortunately, that’s not possible. If their audio made the master audio surpass a threshold, you could assign that but then you might lose the ability to switch to that camera when no one is talking (the less than threshold check).
This is because there can only be one VFA trigger per audio source.
hi, can you play videos which are on the ipad and intergate them into the stream via an hdmi adapter?
Yes, but if you want to use MixEffect at the same time, your video player, be it Photos app, VLC, or Live App Pro, needs to be on the left-hand side of a Split View (with MixEffect) or in Full Screen mode. I would recommend having a dedicated iPad or iOS if you want to use it as an HDMI output device; I do that with an iPod touch running VLC today.
Is there a way to reprogram the macro button to super source setups? That would be awesome. On the extreme iso? without recoding by hand the file?
There is a way documented here:
mixeffect.app/docs/supersource#recording-presets-as-macros
Note the caveats when using this approach since a macro doesn’t know the current state of the boxes when performing its actions. The animation will be baked in and may not lead to the expected results.
Hi question, I'm interested in "Video follows Audio". I have a 3 camera set up, but I see the ATEM Mini Pro has 2 audio input ports. I'm wondering how I'd connect multiple 3 or 4 Microphones work with the ATEM?
The easiest way is to route the audio from the other microphones into the cameras, which go into the ATEM via HDMI. The fourth microphone, you can use one of the other audio ports. Then, you can make use of the VFA feature in MixEffect.
Hi Adam, you're awesome! Thanks for creating this amazing app. Question: Does the paid version comes with any SuperSource or Macro presets? Thanks
Macros are part of the ATEM switcher, so no to them. The paid version and the trial both come with the same SuperSource presets. There is an option to restore to the default presets too in the SuperSource View All Presets page.
@@AdamTow great. Thanks for your reply!
Can you edit the Macros like companion? Editing the buttons without the need of record your movements?
You can't edit Macros like in Companion, but you can create Shortcuts that control MixEffect and your ATEM switcher.
Hi , if I’m running this on my iPhone wirelessly can I say select my phone camera as a source so I can walk around with my phone control my atem worelessly n also have ability to have a wireless camera view
You would need to plug something like an AppleTV into the ATEM and use AirPlay to stream your iPhone's screen to the AppleTV. Then, you can use your iPhone as a source to the ATEM. There are a number of apps that output a clean signal for use with AppleTV (or the HDMI adapter). Filmic Pro, Shoot, are two that do this.
Very interested in video follows audio. How are you getting your audio inputs that trigger the video to switch? Are you tied to the audio that comes in via each camera's HDMI input to the switcher? Pro quality XLR microphones in use in our studio. How do we make video follow audio happen?
VFA works via the inputs into the ATEM. So the Mic inputs and audio from each HDMI input. If you are routing your audio through an external mixer, you won’t be able to take advantage of VFA unless you somehow piggyback the separate audio channels into the ATEM. VFA can work with audio that is disabled, so the channels that are being monitored by MixEffect don’t need to be active.
Just asking for a little help: Is it possible to have Mix Effect select between 4 different audio sources for use in video follows audio? Specifically, 4 podcast microphones all connected to a Behringer x32 rack mixer.
Not directly because usually you have one output going from the X32 into the ATEM.
It is possible, but it’s not straightforward. If you can output each mic to an Aux output on the X32 and say embed that audio into an HDMI or SDI stream that goes into an (unused audio-wide) input on the ATEM, you can trigger on the audio from those inputs (they do not need to be active).
@@AdamTow Thank you for the reply. Everything you said makes sense as a good workaround, however I’m thinking it probably makes the most sense to upgrade my cameras and plug the podcast microphones directly into the cameras themselves. From there at straightforward with audio embedded in each hdmi signal
Hi Mr. Adam I was trying to get the MixEffect Pro form app store was not able to get it there. Where do we get the Pro version?
You purchase it from the MixEffect Settings page. It's an in-app purchase. If you already bought it and want to get Pro on another iPhone or iPad, you can use the Restore Purchases option. It only works if you purchased the app via the same App Store AppleID account.
Hi Adam I’m looking to use my anamorphic lenses with Blackmagic atems the only way I use is true OBS aspect radio filter, the problem is I have to record and stream with OBS😒
It’s any way to change the aspect radio with stream effects????
You can use the Upstream Keyer DVE and adjust the width and height separately. You cannot do that with the SuperSource boxes.
DAng Adam...you're a beast! Out of curiosity could you do this for Roland V-160HD?
Likely not because Roland already has an iPad app and they don’t offer an API or SDK that I could tap into.
@@AdamTow damn you Roland, damn you! Get this man an SPI & SDK!
Hey Adam quick question. Is there any plans to be able to control switching through the supersource layouts created in MixEffect Pro with a Streamdeck via Companion software. I would even be willing to pay a little extra for that ability
You can do that starting with MixEffect 1.0.3 (current version is 1.0.5). Read this for more details: mixeffect.app/docs/osc
@@AdamTow ok cool. I definitely check that out. Maybe I'll just donate what ever extra I would have been willing to pay somehow to you or just support your next product or upgrade
Can Mix Effect work in the background with OSC while something else is in the foreground? (like managing your live stream chat in a browser). Maybe the answer is dependent on whether Mix Effect is running on an iPad vs M1 Mac Mini?
On iOS, MixEffect needs to be in the foreground to respond to OSC calls. On M1 Mac, MixEffect cannot be minimized or hidden, though it can be running in the background for OSC calls to be received.
@@AdamTow Interesting, thanks. I think some users would like a no-GUI black box controlled with Companion that just does the supersource animations and maybe video follows audio stuff. Otherwise the show host needs a dedicated iPad to run MixEffect (and another device to run live stream chat, etc). It would be interesting to use the iPad for setup/design (customize super source layouts, etc) but then run mixeffect on an m1 mac mini hidden away controlled by Companion when going live. Alternatively in reverse you could add a "companion control surface" inside of mix effect that essentially shows the companion streamdeck emulator so that 100% of control surface tasks could be done inside mix effect even for unrelated tasks that are in companion.
@@BensTechLab On iPad, you can use Split View or Slide Over to access the Companion Web Emulator. Have a no-GUI black box is an interesting idea, but I think that would be a separate product from MixEffect and best served as an application that runs on a Mac or PC.
Is it also working with atem television studio pro or just with the minis?
I tested it with the ATEM Television Studio HD and the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K. It should work with the ATEM Television Studio Pro HD as long as you're up-to-date with the firmware. It won't work with the original ATEM Television Studio, which looks like a 1U rack mount.
Hi Adam, is it possible to use the VFA feature using the Zoom H6 line out? I am struggling to use my SM7Bs with the VFA option. Thank you!
Unfortunately no. If you have the Zoom H6 plugged into Mic 1 or Mic 2, it's only going to register as one audio input to the ATEM and MixEffect (for VFA purposes). Can the H6 separate one SM7B to the left channel and the other to the right channel? If so, you could make Mic 1 a Split Channel and use VFA on each channel. But I don't know if the H6 can do that with the line out.
@@AdamTow thank you so much for your insights Adam, I appreciate your help!
Can we use this software connecting the extreme iso . Can we connect I pad to switch the inputs and select macros and super sources using I pad via mix effect and atem software for a conference room solution? will this work . I have 7 laptop inputs and 1 Ptz camera . Can we use this solution?
Yes. The iPad and ATEM need to be on the same physical network, either via Wi-Fi or Ethernet (preferred). Good luck!
Hi Great app! Can i emulate pro version on a window tablet and simultaneously use Atem soft control on an other PC?
No way to run macOS or iOS apps , so no. I don’t have any plans to port over to Windows or Android. More info here on my reasons: docs.mixeffect.app/support/compatibility#android
@@AdamTow ok... So i have to buy a second hand iPad 😁
Purchased Pro version and loving the App. I use the ATEM Mini Pro. Any possibility of removing buttons in a widget that I don't use to give more screen real estate for the features I want on the Switcher canvas? Also would be good if the Cut and Auto buttons could be emphasised a bit. Many thanks for this App!
Right now I don’t have the ability to show/hide individual buttons in a switcher panel, and the button sizes are currently fixed in size. I do plan to offer a panel with bigger cut and auto buttons, however. Would you want Transition controls (Mix, Dip, Wipe, etc.) in there as well or just keep it simple with Cut and Auto?
@@AdamTow Prefer to keep it simple with Cut and Auto. Thanks.
@@AdamTow One more quick Qu. Will Hyperdeck as a source for video be added in the future? Without this I still have to go back to the ATEM Software Control Panel from BM.
@@ttbirds1082 I do want to add HyperDeck support in the future, but I don't have a timetable for it. One thing that you can do in the meantime is to program some macros for basic record, next video, previous video controls.
Hi Adam - just purchased. Any chance you publish your SuperSource Presets anywhere ( github? ) I would love to import what you have for presets and tinker. Thanks!
You can reset your presets and then export them to have them as a copy. If you already made your own presets, you can export them first before resetting the presets, since doing so deletes all existing presets and replaces them with the defaults.
Hi Adam,
At 23:23 you talk about Video Follows Audio. I bought the app but I don't see the options under 'audio' as you do in your video. Where can I find the VFA options?
Which Switcher do you have? VFA only exists for those switchers that support Fairlight Audio. You also need to enable VFA in MixEffect Settings > Automations.
@@AdamTow atem mini pro isem ?
@@robnoy2662 Should work then. I'd refer to the instructions here on enabling and using VFA: docs.mixeffect.app/automate/video-follows-audio
I really appreciate your work, im an early betatester and definitely will buy it , Thanks! @Adam Tow
Thank you for this app. I’m just learning the features, so I have a question: Is there a zoom feature?
By zoom do you mean zooming in in a video source? You cannot do this with SuperSource (only 7-100%), but you can zoom in on a video input with the Upstream Keyer DVE.
Now…the app will not connect to our ATEM. I haven’t changed ANY settings. There were no connection issues previously. Any suggestions?
@@myrabellmontgomery4077 Make sure the IP address of the ATEM didn't change. If your ATEM is set to get its network connection via DHCP, it may have changed. You can find the IP address using ATEM Setup on your PC. Compare it with the IP address in your Switcher Connection detail page in MixEffect (the one that you tap to Connect).
@Adam Tow, do you know of any Windows alternatives, or will you be releasing a Windows version?
No plans to port to Windows. SDK is available for Windows, so nothing stopping an enterprising developer from doing something similar. Competition will be in the form of the ATEM Software Control app that already exists on Windows, which is probably why there aren’t any full-features alternatives out there.
One question, can you connect the streamdeck directly to the ipad via Usb (camera connection kit)? Or you need a computer?
Or maybe, connect one of the usb of my atem extreme to my ipad cck usb directly for control?
MixEffect needs to be connected to the switcher via the network. It won't work with a USB connection. Stream Deck needs to be connected to your computer.
Thanks!
Can this app trigger onboard recording on the BMPCC4K?
I believe that’s what the Record in All Cameras checkbox does in the Recording Tab of Output.
Hello!
Can you help me with something?
I've connected my Atem Mini Pro Iso with my Ipad and I use MixEffect Pro. I need Video Follow Audio option.
I use 3 dslr Canon 650D cameras, but when I connect my microphones directly to the cameras I can't see any move on the audio sound lines of the MixEffect Pro. Of course I pressed ON the microphones on the Atem device at cameras, but I don't have sound, I can't use the settings in the app.
On the dslr's I have in the menu the sound on manual and the preamp is off or smoothly on. If I speak to the mic I can see the lines on the camera display that are moving, but when I Rec I can't hear anything and I dont see the green lines in the app.
The mic is with a 3.5 mm jack for the camera. I have an xlr cable for a mic with 3.5 mm jack and lavalliers.
Where I am wrong?
Thank you!
Assume when you turn ON for the audio in MixEffect, you're doing so for the HDMI inputs that are connected to the cameras. Does the 650D have a setting to enable sending the audio down the HDMI cable? Can you send me a screenshot of your setup so I can troubleshoot some more? Do you see any audio in ATEM Software Control on your Mac/PC? You can use the Feedback link in the MixEffect Settings screen to send me an email.
Will this give Super Source fatures to a 4 in ATEM mini Pro
No. SuperSource is a feature of the ATEM, so if your ATEM doesn't support it, MixEffect will not show it. You can, however, use MixEffect to animate the single USK DVE on the ATEM Mini Pro via Shortcuts or OSC/Companion.
for Video follows audio, Could this some how link up with external mics? Also could you have it switch to a specific input if say everyone is talking or no one is talking? (aka a wide cam) the swap to whos talking if its a solo talker?
To get external mic support, people have used techniques such as splitting the two mic inputs on an ATEM into four channels (Mic 1 L and R and Mic 2 L and R). Or they embed the audio signal into HDMI and use the 4-8 inputs on the ATEM.
Right now, there isn't a way to switch to an input when everyone is talking. But you can set the master input to change to a wide shot when no one is speaking.
thanks so much for the reply Adam. Would it be possible to to go to a wide shot at a set or random interval for so many seconds then back to audio switched? I don’t have an atem yet but so far this looks like the best option for this
@@ReefDudes Hmm... not out of the box. I think what you could do is combine MixEffect with either Shortcuts or Companion. You could press a button on the Stream Deck or a shortcut that temporarily turns off VFA and switches to your wide shot. Then, when you are ready to turn VFA back on, you would press another button or run another shortcut. Shortcuts can be written to do the run this, wait for this, run this... although it's not really designed to do that for complicated switching.
Will you be using MixEffect on a Mac, iPhone, or iPad? That also may change your workflow. Either way, make sure the MixEffect device is hardwired to Ethernet for the most reliable connection to the ATEM.
Im open for future workflows as this will be a new bedroom turn into a mini studio space
Current setup is 4 Input elgato capture card / OBS/ in windows. I do have a stream deck
Future setup debating an Atem and MixEffect. I would likely use an iPad but I do have an older iMac as well so that’s an option as long as it doesn’t have to do any heavy lifting. This is all for planning stage so I’m open to ideas & work flow. I have been watching a bunch of your video. You have done an Amazing job on expanding the capabilities of the atem!
@@ReefDudes iPad is completely fine to use. Many people use MixEffect on an iPad (or a Mac) as essentially a server that's controlled via Companion/Stream Deck. Other people like to use MixEffect on the iPad and touch all the controls. Other people like using it on a dedicated Mac (must be Apple Silicon Mac; MixEffect does not support Intel Macs).
Since you have OBS/Windows and a capture card, do you think everything will ultimately still be going into the desktop computer, or do you see the ATEM/MixEffect replacing that? I'd also jump into some of the BMD forums on Facebook or the various Discords to talk to other people. Those with Windows/OBS/Capture Card experience may be able to shed more light on the best way to do things. Good luck!
Hey Adam, can you put a Super in another super? so theoretically you could have a super with 4 cameras and then put that super in to another super with 3 other cameras etc?
You mean chaining together multiple ATEM Extremes? I suppose so. If you have a 4 M/E Constellation HD or a Constellation 8K, you can use the Cascade feature with the two SuperSources as well.
Any chance to make this run on older IOS 9.35 Ipads?
Unfortunately, no chance. The app make heavy use of the SwiftUI framework that was introduced with iOS 13 and refined in iOS 14.
Why doesn't it work on Atem Television Studio 4K?
It should work on the ATEM TV Studio Pro 4K. Can you make sure that the two devices are on the same network? You may need to configure the ATEM network manually. Watch my connection tutorial video for more details.
Does this work with the original stem tv studio? Which functions are not available?
If you're referring to this ATEM Television Studio product (www.adorama.com/us1398421.html), MixEffect will not work with it. MixEffect does work with the ATEM Television Studio HD, ATEM Television Studio Pro HD, and the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K. The first two do not support features like SuperSource, Advanced Chroma Key, or Fairlight Audio. The Pro 4K has Advanced Chroma Key and Fairlight Audio, but does not support SuperSource.
it owrks just fine, but you are right, no macros - i can live w/out those tho - more interested in the usk and dsk options thx
Hi, does SuperSource work with Blackmagic Design ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K UHD Live Production Switcher?
No, that switcher does not support SuperSource. Currently, only the ATEM Mini Extreme, Mini Extreme ISO, 2 M/E Production Studio 4K, 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K, and the Constellation 8K support SuperSource. If BMD were to update the TV studio products, I am sure they will add SuperSource. Cross your fingers for 2022?
Can I use video clips for Media on ATEM Mini Extreme?
No. Clips are only available on the more expensive (and older) switchers such as the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4k, 2 M/E Production Studio, 4 M/E Broadcast Studio, and the ATEM Constellation 8K. If you want to use videos, you’ll need something like a HyperDeck, PlayoutBee, VLC running on a separate computer/device connected to HDMI.
I am using ATEM constellation HD 2 m/e. Is there a way to import all those supersource presets into mixeffect without having to create them all? Because the preset buttons in companion do nothing without them.
My Companion Profiles for the ATEM Mini Extreme contains buttons for all of the default presets, and they should work with the 2 M/E ATEM Constellation HD. Otherwise, you'll have to create them individually. Let me see about posting just the preset buttons in an export file.
Send me a feedback email (MixEffect Settings > Send Feedback), and I can send you a companionconfig with the default preset buttons.
Thank you for this video. Would it be possible to share my computer screen as one of the camera inputs? Thanks.
Yes, you need to use the HDMI output from your computer and plug it into the HDMI input on your ATEM.
@@AdamTow ok thank you!
@@AdamTow What would be the best setup in your opinion if my friend and I want to do a podcast together but he is remote and I have the Atem in my possession? I have my camera as input 1 on the atem, should i just bring his screen into input 2? What do you think? Thank you again!
@@THEPIPELIST Lots of options for you. I would do a search YT for videos on how to bring in remote guests to your Blackmagic ATEM switcher. There are plenty of videos out there for you to follow!
@@AdamTow Thanks Adam! Final question for you. What do you think the best way to get audio from a mic, which requires phantom power, into the Atem is? Thanks again!
can you customize the order of the inputs ? usually is cam1 cam2 etc... but what I you want to have cam2 then cam1 etc etc?
This is not possible in MixEffect at the current time. Sorry!
@@AdamTow thank you for your reply, thats unfortunate. that is something that at least in my case i really need...
No guarantees, but I will add it to the feature request list for a future version of the app.
Hi there !!! Can you use MixEffect Pro with Atem Mini & Atem Mini Pro ? and the supersource option in MixEffect Pro ?
You can use MixEffect Pro with the ATEM Mini and Mini Pro. SuperSource, however, is only available on those switchers that support the feature, ATEM Mini Extreme, Extreme ISO, 2 M/E Production Studio 4K, 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K, and the Constellation 8K.
@@AdamTow thank you so much for reply, really apreciate, however the big idea in my case is that im using atem mini extreme iso cause it has 8 hdmi inputs but i need another 4 more inputs with supersource capability , so i was planing to buy one atem mini for 250 euro for those extra 4 inputs and i was afraid i will have to buy atem mini pro witch is 450 or so !!!
@@michaelstrong7961 Yeah, if you wanted to do an 8 box, you'll need to chain together two Extremes or buy an ATEM Constellation 8K. Now, you can do a 6-box layout with the Extreme using the 4 SuperSource boxes and the 2 USK DVEs. I demonstrate that in this video: czcams.com/video/cqYewAMqlSw/video.html. What do you mean that your iPad is unreliable? Are you connecting to MixEffect via Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Have you tried Ethernet? How many devices are connecting to your ATEM switcher. There is a limit of 5 connected controllers to most ATEM switchers. Your choice of Wi-Fi router may also be something you look into. I'm primarily on wireless with MixEffect and connection to the ATEM is generally very strong.
@@AdamTow MY ipad is unreliable not the program Can i install teh program on a PC please
@@avalonvideoca MixEffect only works on iOS, iPadOS, and Apple Silicon Macs. No plans to to port to Windows.
so you use this instead of the Blackmagic app?
Yes. Or you can use both at the same time. It’s up to you! MixEffect has a number of features that are missing in the ATEM Software Control application, like Video Follows Audio, SuperSource, macro sorting, and more.
hi have a question what about SuperSource,
yes yes it can on atem mini pro not what can i do with that pic and pic
ATEM Mini Pro does not have SuperSource. The SuperSource options will only appear if the switcher supports it (though it does appear in the Simulator for offline access).
Is there any way to use this app without the M1 Chip?
On a Mac, no. The way MixEffect was coded requires an M1 chip or an iPad or iPhone running iOS 14 or higher.
Good job ! Any chance to have a PC version one day ?
Unfortunately no. ATEM Software Control from BMD is your best solution here. As a one man development shop, I simply don’t have the time nor resources to support additional operating systems.
@@AdamTow Hi Adam have you tried this on a M1 Mac at all
@@hadphild Yes, MixEffect runs on an M1 Mac but is otherwise unsupported as there are some UI oddities. Things may improve when Apple updates its development tools with the next versions of macOS and iOS. More details here: mixeffect.app/docs/compatibility
Can you not set up super sources from the phone app?
You can set up SuperSources from MixEffect running on the phone. If you don't see the SuperSource section, either your ATEM doesn't support SuperSource or the section might have been deleted. To bring it back, go to the Switcher Section detail page, tap Edit, and tap Reset Layout.
Adam, is there anyway to use a green screen in supersource i.e. the same concept as on air and having a real green screen behind the subject and portraying the MP1 or MP2 background?
Unfortunately this is not possible with the stock ATEM Mini Extreme. You either have to have an ATEM that has multiple M/E buses or attach multi-ATEM minis to the HDMI inputs on the Extreme. Do your chroma keying on those devices and use them in the SuperSource on the Extreme. Other people have used the USK Chroma key and the Flying Key to overlay on top of a SuperSource, but it’s not an ideal solution.
@@AdamTow Thanks Adam, I do have the ATEM Mini Pro ISO as well. Will that facilitate and if so, can you explain the workflow? Thanks

Ethernet is plugged into the Atem. HDMI adapter into the iPad.
IP addresses don’t match but it still finds the Atem software control.
What do you think I can do about the iPad constantly being disconnected from software?
PS. Using this solution while my MacBook Pro is in the shop 😢
Which ATEM do you have? Let’s focus on getting the network configured properly between the Atem and MixEffect. Can you follow the instructions here and see if this helps? docs.mixeffect.app/support/connection-help
@@AdamTow Atem Mini Pro ISO
Check in ATEM Setup how the ATEM is configured. Change to DHCP. And see if the router/gateway and subnet mask numbers line up with the iPad in Settings > Ethernet. Then try to connect again. I would also recommend setting up a static DHCP reservation in your router for the ATEM so they IP doesn’t keep changing (if you are working from a permanent location).
@@AdamTow thanks again. I’ve had no success still but I’ll look deeper into creating that type of network connection.

Will it work with Web Presenters?
There is a Send Web Presenter Command shortcut action you can use to control BMD Web Presenters. docs.mixeffect.app/automate/shortcuts/actions/send-web-presenter-command
Possible commands are documented in the Web Presenter manuals from BMD.
Windows /Android version in the works
No plans for the foreseeable future. Read more here: docs.mixeffect.app/support/compatibility#android
Hello Adam thank you for your very detailed tutorial! I am using ATEM mini pro iso with Mix Effect Pro from my iPad.I use four different cameras and four microphones plugged in an RODEcaster pro 2. I want to use all four cameras with Video follows audio but I only have two audio inputs on ATEM mini pro iso. Is there any solution for that?Thank you in advance!
The only way to do this to embed the four mics audio into the HDMI feeds of your camera. So you would continue to use the Rodecaster -> mic -> ATEM for program audio, but you would use the HDMI audio to handle VFA triggers (you can set VFA to trigger even if the audio is turned off on an ATEM input).
Another option is to somehow split the audio from each of the mics and send them as a mono signal to the L and R channels. Then you can use the Split Audio feature in the ATEM on the two mic inputs. But I don’t think the Rodecaster can do that. Probably easier to embed the audio into the camera HDMI signal.
Thank you! I can route my four headphone outputs of my Roadcaster as four individual mics. Will the Atem see them as four different inputs after I split the audio? F.e. Camera 1-> mic1 Left/ Camera 2-> mic 1 right/ Camera 3 -> mic2 Left / camera 4 -> mic 2 right.
@@mrdone7528 I would give it a shot and report back if it works. It's not something that I've done on my own in the past.
Update: I just finished my 2 hours live stream on Instagram using 2 camera setup and video follows audio setting from Mix Effect and it was AWESOME! It worked smooth and stable without losing any transitions! My setup:
Atem Mini Pro iso controlled by Mix Effect
Roadcaster Pro 2 with 2 Rode Podmic
4 Canon Eos M200 connected to my Atem mini pro iso
I 100% recommend Mix Effect for controlling your Atem.
For Video Follows audio setup you can split audio inputs through Mix Effect, and with a little bit of playing around you can set 4 mics to switch 4 cameras!
Thank you Adam you did a great job with Mix Effect!
@@mrdone7528 That's great that it worked out for you. Question: How did you split the audio from two mics into L and R channels from the Rodecaster?
Wow
Any plans for an android or PC version?
I am an iOS developer, so no plans to port over to Android or PC.
Looks good. Does MixEffect offer a push button interface for selecting the fill source of the upstream key, or is that something a user would have to customize?
You would go to the Upstream Keyers section, tap the Fill Source menu, and choose a fill source. You could also create a macro to change the USK a source and have it appear in the main switcher section.
@@AdamTow - Thanks for your quick reply. Sounds like MixEffect's Upstream Fill Source interface is similar to ATEM Software Control: a mouse-driven drop-down menu. If I understand correctly, the alternative would be to record a macro for each fill source and assign them to custom MixEffect buttons?
macros would appear in the macros section or panel in the switcher. You can add tags and sort/filter by name, color, icon. Other approach is to use a shortcut, which has full access to much of the internal state of the ATEM.
Or you can use OSC and a Stream Deck with MixEffect too.
There’s also the Select Bus panel, which you can add to the Switcher section of you want single push button control of the USK fill source.
@@AdamTow - That Select Bus panel is in MixEffects, right? Sounds like Fill Source push button panels could be added for any of the upstream or downstream keys to the Switcher section?
can i connect multiple iphones to the same atem mini and have them positioned so when i move infront of any given camera i can then quickly switch cameras without too much fuss when shooting mutli camera angle videos ? thanks man
Are you using the iPhones as cameras or using them to control MixEffect? If using them as cameras, you can investigate using the Video Follows Audio feature to automatically switch cameras when the audio from the iPhone reaches a certain level. It might be difficult with this approach, since the audio captures so much ambient sound. Having an external mic on the iPhone may be necessary.
@@AdamTow hi,no i just want the phones to control mixeffect, i have 3 sony cameras and 3 iphones, what i would like to do is strategically place the 3 phones i.e 1 by guitar 1 by piano 1 by synth and then when i go to the piano or guitar or synth i could switch to that camera angle hopefully using the phone as a switcher via mixeffect Pro without it looking like i'm blatantly switching cameras.i do live performances, thanks for your help
@@palaHD Yes, you could do this. Keep in mind that the ATEM can have up to five devices controlling it (i.e. each instance of MixEffect, ATEM Software Control, Companion, etc.). I would recommend using macros for one tap switching of sources, since the program/preview buttons might be small to tap when you are doing your performance. You can filter the macro list so you only have one button to tap on. Also, you'll want to make sure that Wi-Fi is super strong and reliable at your venues. Worst thing is for MixEffect to drop its connection to the ATEM because of shoddy networking. If you can hardwire, that will make things very reliable.
@@AdamTow excellent news ! the performances only ever take place at my studio so i have full control of the network :) 1 last question is mixeffect compatible with all models of the Atem Mini ? thanks very much for your help with this and i look forward to enjoying Mixeffect pro !
@@palaHD Yes, MixEffect works with all of the ATEM Mini lineup. The original Mini has a different networking stack than the other ones, so be sure to grab the IP address from ATEM Setup when programming it into MixEffect. Let me know if you have any further questions getting it all set up.
Hi, i will receive my atem mini pro. Can your app execute an automatic 4 cams switching pattern that we can use for a complete concert for example? Thanks .
Can you explain how you want it to switch a little more? Based on audio levels? Via a looping macro (i.e. focus on Cam1 for 5 seconds, switch to Cam2, hold for 5 seconds, etc. and repeat)? If the latter, this is something you can do with ATEM's built in macros (which MixEffect can execute).
For the former, MixEffect has a Video Follows Audio feature, which lets you switch cameras automatically based on audio input levels.
You can also use tools like Companion and a Stream Deck to add automations. Or Shortcuts within iOS, iPadOS, and macOS to automate MixEffect and your ATEM.
@@AdamTow yes i was talking about looping macro!
@@AdamTow in fact i want to loop the macros as you said, cam1 - pause - cam 3- pause etc. Can you put a macro like this in your app so we could play it " plug n' play "?
@@top-voice1674 When MixEffect is connected to the ATEM, you can instruct the ATEM to start recording a macro to any one of the 100 macro slots. A visual interface will appear, allowing you to program the ATEM exactly how you want it. For instance:
1. Switch to Camera 1.
2. Tap the pause button.
3. Enter the number of frames / seconds to wait.
4. Switch to Camera 2.
5. Tap the pause button.
6. Enter the number of frames / seconds to wait.
7. Repeat steps until you are done. Make sure you add a pause step as the last action.
8. Press the Stop recording macro button.
9. Turn on the Macro loop feature in the Macros section.
10. Run your macro by tapping on it.
You'll see the macro you created running exactly how you programmed it. If you want to make tweaks to it, you can download the macro XML file from Blackmagic's ATEM Software Control application on your Mac or PC. Edit the XML file using a text editor and re-import back into the ATEM.
Or, you can re-record within MixEffect.
@@AdamTow thank you so much ! You're very nice to provide so much informations! Merci !
necitamos lo mismo para windows. pleace!!!
Unfortunately, there are no plans to port to Android or Windows. I have an extended reason (for Android, but it applies to Windows as well) here: docs.mixeffect.app/support/compatibility#android
How about a MixEffect to control OBS? Not as capable as an ATEM switcher but perhaps better than a StreamDeck.
Unlikely. One of the reasons I wrote MixEffect was to not have to use OBS. That said, there are some apps out there right now that remotely control OBS. I don't know how good it is, but this one looks similar to my app: www.cvhvisuals.com/obswitcher.html
@@AdamTow Understood. I just thought that for those deterred by the $500-$1300 price tag for an Atem, an OBS solution with a good remote control would be of interest. I think that Mixeffect, does a better job than what I have seen elsewhere.
MacBook Air M1 ?
Yes, it will work on the M1 MacBook Air. See this for compatibility details though: mixeffect.app/docs/compatibility#apple-silicon-macs
Can u overlay a graphic in super source
You can use the USK or DSK to overlay a graphic. Or, you can use the SuperSource Art (Art tab) and set the source to display in the foreground.
@@AdamTow thanks adam, this is by far the best app for ATEM - keep up the good work just wished it was a bit affordable.
iis Mixeffect woreless on ipad?
Yes, it works wirelessly on the iPad.
is their a desktop virsion of this ?
If you have an Apple Silicon Mac, you can run MixEffect. No plans to make it work on Intel Macs at the moment.
@@AdamTow interesting thanks for the info I was more thinking Windows desktop app but it sounds like this is coded for apple only it'd be great to have this running in the background and control it with a stream deck
@@Reedith Yes, I'm an Apple developer, so there's no plans to port this over to Windows. If you do have an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Silicon Mac, it can run in the background now and be operable via a Stream Deck via the MixEffect Companion Module that's part of Bitfocus' Companion.
@@AdamTow oh that's good to know I'll try out the iPad with the stream deck probably runs great on a Mac mini as well
I have windows..... 😥 why apple only
I explain why it's Apple only here in response to Android support. Also applies to Windows: docs.mixeffect.app/support/compatibility#android
Windows?
Sorry. Mac and iOS/iPadOS only.
Should anyone be curious or find it helpful, here's a free Video-follows-audio solution for the ATEM Mini I developed using OBS and Bitfocus Companion: czcams.com/video/SdJNZlXteDo/video.html

Dunno. Still refining my video setup. Hope the newer videos have better audio quality.
You have great piece of software but i think you need a better presentation for it...explaining how to set up everything etc...(always friendly & i will be more than happy to help with)
Thanks for the comment. This was my very first video on MixEffect. I have produced more videos on how to use specific features of the app. Check them all out on the MixEffect playlist on my channel here.
wireless
not bad, but $50 bucks for the today's market is kind of hi, and most of the features of the app can be controlled by the laptop anyway. You should create a small app with most used features and sell it for a something like $9.99
