- Welcome to the latest MoDXtra: Games & Collectibles action figure review. In this instalment we're taking a look at the new G.I. Classified Series Mutt & Junkyard set.
The team's K-9 specialist and his good boy have made their way to Classified! Mutt & Junkyard are yet another set of iconic GI Joe characters that just... works for this line and I'm very excited to have them in my collection. Another great piece of variety to bring the whole GI Joe line-up to life.
This is a THOROUGH review. It will involve a brief unboxing of Mutt & Junkyard, an overall view of the figure, and then some detailed thoughts around his aesthetic, articulation, and accessories. (My action figure review Triple A's LOL).
Its exciting to have a continued focus on GI Joe Classified on the channel, and its my hope that if you've been thinking of picking up Mutt & Junkyard set of your own my thorough review will help you make your decision.
YO JOE!

I absolutely love this set. Tons of fun stuff to add extra value to figures that knock it out of the park on their own. I really like how the Classified line can consistently change which figure is my favourite and put this focus on the characters I wasn't so into in my youth and highlight them and and just deepen my appreciation for GI Joe over all even after 40 years of being a fan.
I agree with that. I started a "Best Joe of 23" vid earlier in December and just got myself so twisted with indecision because of that very reason. Couldn't even get my top 5 down to a top ten! LOL
YES! My Christmas wish came true and you got the review for Mutt and Junkyard up!
I had a good laugh at your struggles with the blister pack. I'm already starting to miss the old fiber tie downs - don't love the tiny plastic ties - and it was always fun to open up the little accessories envelope. Oh well, at least we don't have to worry about getting the wrong figure in the box, definitely seen a number of complaints about that on discord.
As far as the figures themselves, they look so good! I'm so excited for them to ship stateside. Absolutely a must-have for me and one of the figures I've been most looking forward to.
I’ve never liked blisters - ever since I was a kid. Especially with the tie wraps. Eurgh. They drive me batty and I hate the noise. I truly am going to miss those cardboard trays with the paper-y wraps. I think we’re in the minority tho…
Am really liking the good boy Junkyard head more than I thought I would. A great overall set.
Hi there! Thanks for commenting 😀
The set is great fun, I’m really into it. The head swap for Junkyard was an excellent choice by the Classified team for sure - love the different possibilities it opens up.
Mutt and Junkyard have always been my favorite Joe's so glad that they included the muzzle for Mutt....always thought it was funny that Mutt needs one but Junkyard doesn't...as in you're more likely to get bitten by Mutt than you are by his dog😂.....great set excellent review as always Chris....I hope you and yours have a lovely holiday season...all the best in the new year...can't wait to see more of your positive and always entertaining content coming up in 2024.....cheers
Thanks Scott. My best to your and your family this holidays too - have a great break man, and thank you so much for all your support & encouragement with the channel this year :)
Catch you in 2024...
Another gorgeous animal figure to add to the line up. They absolutely knock those larger animals out of the park. I wish Polly had gotten a bit more love, but Junkyard is going to look excellent on display with Timber and Order, when they get around to him.
Great review & an amazing figure set . Received mine the other day and im very impressed, i think the can on the back of Mutt's belt is supposed to be CS spray 👍
Yeah - CS spray makes sense and I should’ve known that really. Sometimes, in the heat of recording, I just blank on obvious things LOL 😂 Part of the charm, I suppose…
Thanks for watching and commenting - appreciate ya 🤘🏻
I can't wait to get him!!! He was one of the first joes I remember getting as a kid. I'm with you I much rather the plastic free packaging. They should have kept everything with them but put a window to see the figure.
Yeah - something a bit more subtle and interesting would have been nice. I suspect it was an efficiency decision - just go back to something like the old approach cause they've still got the set up to do that etc
Great Review Chris. This guy was a must have as a child since I was a dog lover! Looks great.. the lack of night stick loop is the only bummer.. just like Shockwave! Happy Holidays to you & the family! Have fun with the kids!
Thanks falafel. We’ve had a cracking time over Christmas. I have consumed far too much and will be dieting like a maniac in the New Year LOL
Oh wow
You already own Mutt and Junkyard that's sooo freaking cool. I can't wait to add them to my collection ,I've preordered them when they went up for preorder. Sucks that both Shockwave and now Mutt didn't come with a loop on their belts to hoslter their Batons maybe a tiny screw eye will work as a solution ?
Yeah - shipped from Hasbro Pulse, all the UK pre-orders of them are being fulfilled. The UK fan pages were filled with excited figure photos the other day LOL
Great pickup/review, Chris. He was always one of my favorites as a kid. Can’t wait to get him
You'll love him, I know it! Swing back by and let me know how you get on when he lands :)
Wow mutt looks like a younger version of my dad same exact smile too.
Ha! Handsome chap your Dad then. ;)
I'm so excited for Mutt & Junkyard! They're gonna look awesome on the shelf. I never had this pair as a kid but my cousin did and I was terribly jealous. Great review! Happy Holidays and I hope you have a fantastic new year!
Thanks for watching man!
Happy Holidays to you too - I hope you have a good one and I'll see you in 2024 :)
Nice review! It looks like a fun set. I just wish that they had included his Mac-10 sub machine gun from the original release instead of the M-16. Not to worry though, off to Etsy for one. 😂
Funny - I like the big AR, but mostly because I'm re-purposing it over to Stalker (who I think looks better with the rifle, 'Nam Vet style). I don't think we've had a Mac-10 at all up to this point, have we? Like you say - off to Etsy. I hear Gridiron Studios does good stuff too :)
Another great review bro bro, so stoked to get mine in!!!!
Thanks Tweed :) Appreciate ya man
Was my favourite figure in the original series. This set looks great.
It is great - I’ve been having loads of fun with this one and they’ve remained as my “pocket” toys pretty much since they arrived. (My man-child equivalent of a a “pocket toy” is my work desk LOL )
gi joe probably in the top 3 of toy lines for this year
100% Can't disagree at all. Loving it!
Great review!
They look awesome 👌🏼 👏🏼 👍🏼
Thanks cmoney. Appreciate you watching :)
It's interesting that the helmet has holes on either side for the old school visor. I think it will be the same helmet that retro Duke will come with and probably Starduster in the future.
I think that’s a strong bet falcon.
The third symbol is Gilligan's Island, its part of his DVD collection.
Of course! How did I miss that - it's right at the top of his foot locker too. He had such a crush on Ginger... 😉
His face looks way better now that I see it on video!
Happy to help 🤘🏻
all joe's must be of this quality
He's a banger for sure!
Waiting on mine to show up
Not long now man...
I was never a fan of Mutt and Junkyard, this was an easy pass, for me. That all changed, when I saw the prototype/ for Junkyard! What's not to love about a fully articulated Rottweiler, with a tactical vest and swappable heads!?!
What’s not to love indeed! He looks great, and the head swap adds to the range of playability for sure. 😀
Well I bought these, they are OK, not perfect but OK.
The dog has some missing paint and some pretty loose joints overall and his back knees are really tight I had to steam them to free them they were not just tight they were bonded together (timber had the same issue on that joint).
Mutt's OK his helmet is a bit to spongy and he could do with an alternative head due to the silly expression. I had to make a couple of small "improvements" to make them useful a strap for the rifle and Nightstick after that they were decent enough. I do think Mutt is a slightly weird shade of green and that Junkyard's carry strap is a bit fragile feeling.
I'll never use those alternative hands though they are to hard to swap. I do wish they'd put a loop on the dog collar though to use to secure the dog into a vehicle or add a lead. I think perhaps Junkyard could have down with a Muzzle too.
Nice enough set though... No as good as Crocmaster and Fionna though not any worse than Timber & Snake Eyes either.
Hey there 90lancaster - how's it going? Thanks for jumping on and sharing your thoughts. Love hearing other folks views on the figs, and I know others read the comments and find them useful :)
The only note I have is this: I like the silly expression in the face sculpt. LOL
@@MoDXtraGC Oh it is much much better than say ONE:12 Mezco Gi Joe 6" Duke that is for sure.
Mutt's growling face is to point out that he's meaner than Junkyard. That's why he comes with a "muzzle" and Junkyard doesn't !
whats the plastic piece below his chin? hairy chest?
Yep - exactly that. I don't mention it in the review in a brief "blink and you'll miss it moment" :)
Looks like the animal figure is better than the human figure
LOL
In more ways than one. I hear Junkyard is tidier and more organised too LOL ;)
I strongly suggest that you don't take things out of the packet with quite so much care free enthusiasm as Chris unless you want to break your toys.
It made me cringe seeing him nearly snap the barrel of the gun off.
LMAO
Yeah - its not just a joke when I refer to myself as a "man-child". This arrested development is real, and I still open toys like I was 6! ;)
Collectors are weird with the plastic packaging. On one hand in general they want to "save the environment" by not dealing with plastic because "ewwww plastiiiiiiiic" but then want the plastic for the figures. I myself cant stand the plastic packaging just because of the irritating sound it makes trying to get the figure and everything else out of it.
Yep - that blister pack sound is the worst! LOL 😂 we’re in agreement there. I’ve never liked blister packs since I was a kid - but it’s less about the plastic use as it is the experience. I thought the plastic free cardboard frames were nice with the artwork on the back etc. I liked sliding it out and taking it all in. 😁
