- Welcome to the latest MoDXtra: Games & Collectibles action figure review. In this instalment we're taking a look at the new G.I. Classified Series Gnawgahyde, Porkbelly & Yobbo figures.
Yet more Dreadnoks to swell the ranks of everyone's favourite biker gang from GI Joe! The Gnawgahyde set is a big one with the addition of the two animal companions as well, and the creatures have been a alar highlight of the GI Joe Classified line - so there's a lot of potential in this set. BUT, does it meet that potential?
This is a THOROUGH review. It will involve a look at the packaging & "peg presence" of Gnawagahyde, an overall view of the figure, and then some detailed thoughts around his aesthetic, articulation, and accessories. (My action figure review Triple A's LOL). I'll also provide the same for Porkbelly & Yobbo, so you'll have a sense of their "Triple A's" too.
Its exciting to have a continued focus on GI Joe Classified on the channel, and its my hope that if you've been thinking of picking up a Gnawgahyde of your own its my hope this thorough review will help you make your decision.

Thank you for another great review! For me, the pins on the arms and legs are a huge let down. We are more than 4 years in and they still use a body from the 1st wave of figures.
I'm less bothered by the pins, but I knew there were folks like yourself who feel strongly about them so pointed it out. Whether they bother me so much or not, you're absolutely right that we've moved on and the new standard should be... well... the new standard LOL
I have to agree with you, Chris. I'm pretty disappointed in the overwhelming amount of reuse, not just in the figure itself, but the abundance of accessories. I know they were going for a number that made him feel like he was worth the price point, but it almost feels more like an afterthought. At the very least, he should have come with his own, new backpack. I hate it when they include things that have loops and clamps for things that aren't even a part of the new figure.
I'm not going to cancel him, because I'm hoping I can gussy him up a bit and make him look a little more unique, but it goes back to that line of thought that the collector shouldn't need to do that, in order to get what they want out of it.
The load out is probably the most bothersome element of this set. The leg re-use is what it is, it's irksome but not a deal breaker. The fact that the backpack doesn't even seem to fit him properly just confounded me.
To your second point - you can't make everyone happy - but you're right, we really shouldn't need to do remedial, corrective work to at least engage with the basic functionality. Like bending at the knees, or have a backpack that fits!
For the price... that much re-use, pinned arms and legs, and the gummy joints and pegs that could possibly sheer rather than actually operate...... yeeesh. Giving him the revolver and that other knife at the end really helped make him a bit more wild than his default loadout here.
Yeah - I felt like it was the best thing to do. I (like many others) have a pretty rich box of spare bits n'all that so grabbing a few different weapons.
The issue with Classified is that I can only ever judge it my their own standard, and so re-use of this nature stands out.

Great review, Chris. I’m going to keep my preorder, but I’ll be on the lookout for some replacement accessories. At the very least, I can get some quality fights between Timber and Porkbelly 😂

The knife you gave him at the end gave me Paul Hogan vibes. I'm looking forward to getting mine. Also look how cool the Cobra team are they get more exotic pets than the ones Joe's get.

Porkbelly is a highlight of the set IMHO. The Cobra's really do get more exotic animal companions!

great review as usual! I do agree that the glossiness combined with gummy plastic is definitely not the best combo. and shame they didnt use that face real magic tech on this guy. If I had to guess they'll probably course correct on a retro release.
Interesting. I wouldn't have thought there was much scope for a retro edition of this character. A good course correction would be the boots for sure.
Hey Mate! Great review! Feels a bit odd with you getting this wave before us across the pond… Definitely a bit jealous, but Hasbro does need to spread the distribution wealth. This guy looks good, bummer on the QC. I’ve noticed how the blister bubbles still warp weapons👎🏻….pins… Hasbro needs to retire some of the older molds.. (roadblock legs). Still good to see the Dreadnoks growing.. Gnawgahyde, Torch, RoadPig… (I bet they reveal him at SDCC)

You're right about the warping of the weapons, but in some small defense of Hasbro I am also a complete caveman when it comes to taking the stuff out of blisters! I'm far too rough & impatient and probably contribute to the situation more than most LOL

Right? Gnawgahyde needs a big f-ing cannon! I don't know what type of gun the vintage fig had but even something along those lines would be better with the massive scope & barrell.
This is the 2nd review I’ve seen that has pointed out quality control issues. That’s very disappointing. Aesthetically, he looks great, so I’ll pick one up anyway; but I may wait until he goes on sale at my local Target. Great review, very thorough and comprehensive; Hakuna Matata!

Yeah - he's barmy cool. I love the wackier dudes. Zanzibar with his flying skiff would be super cool. :)
This character has such a cool and unique look that even with all its issues, which you pointed out clearly, it still looks good. So it could have been amazing if Hasbro would have invested more in him. Such a shame. Even just giving him new legs and boots and a new weapon that fits his character would have gone a long way.
I agree. It's an example of the little things adding up. BUT - you're right - the overall look is good, particularly the top half. The sculpting detail around his outfit are wonderful.

I was on the fence as he was after my time but the animals were swaying me towards getting him but I think I'm going to hold off. It doesn't seem like Classified is selling out to the extent it was the last couple of years so I'll see if he turns up on discount.

Yeah - I think there's so much stuff out there right now its a better bet to cherry pick what you're really feeling.
Carbon fibre front box art is a step back if you ask me. Nothing tactiCool about it. Figure looks great. I wish they wouldn’t have changed the moustache tho.
I agree. I'm actually a fan of the windowless packaging, but am fully aware I'm a bit of an outlier on that. I enjoy the artwork - I'm glad they kept it on the back still to get my fix.
I didn't really clock the moustache change, but now you mention it... I think some comic book interpretations of him are little more in line with what we've got with the figure... (I might go have a quick look in the long box now - funny the things we fill our time with LOL)
I think Joe is Hasbros best line of figures.. even when they’re “lazy” they’re no where near as lazy as say Marvel Legends.
That being said.. if they want to keep making these deluxe sets they really should not use reuse for them. Maybe I’m just being picky but I find it more “acceptable” when the figure is under 30 dollars.
When we go up in price then maybe make new and original sculpts? The legs are unacceptable imho.. its Roadblocks legs from possibly his first figure? lol… No guys, I really like the Joe team at Hasbro. Unlike most teams there I think they are fans and they care.. so I’m gonna hold them to a higher standard.

And honestly, I’d rather they not give figures backpacks if they’re gonna just super reuse them. Give them packs that make sense or don’t bother giving them a pack.
I entirely agree. It's absolutely Hasbro's best line, but you are right about the re-use because we then judge the line by its own, higher standard. The legs have been long surpassed by much better alternatives too - so the re-use seems like an all round odd choice.

Great review. The reuse from early classified figures is disappointing (the legs). I’ll eventually pick him up, but I may wait for a sale.
I think that sentiment is shared friend, a lot of commenters are in agreement that this is a low priority one. You gotta put your money where it feels good sometimes, not just "OK".

Yeah - I've been asked about comparisons before, and do sometimes throw them in. I always get worried (because I do my reviews pretty thorough AND have a habit of going on a bit) that I'm asking too much of the viewer at the length the reviews are at currently and the comparisons tend to be what hits the cutting room floor.
I'll try and tighten up the waffle in future and bring them back ;)
@@MoDXtraGC I admit your videos are long, but this one has a lot of equipment, it s fitting, I like your impressions, but also your idea of teams and collecting. so yeah, I want to see your other figs you ll mix him with, dios - scenes, vehicles. it s cool to see the new figs with others and other stuff. dios and comparisons are my usual standards for reviews, I m patient, I don t want to support only the same ones either, it s just much better as a final touch and presentation. thanks bro
I can't wait to get him in hand and add him to my collection. Well some of us are blessed with white teeth and thankfully don't need a Wash to tone down the white teeth 😂 . If anything I wish his vest was given a brown wash on the lower portion of his vest that fades to nothing to the upper part of his vest. So many little issues that add up to a lot of disappointment. I had high hopes but had to cancel my preorder. After preordering Mutt and Metalhead only to see then get deep discounts relatively quickly, I may pick up Gnawgahyde later on. Not worth full deluxe price on this one. I appreciate the thorough and honest review.

Oh dear. After watching your video, which of course was in-depth and excellent as always. I’m not feeling this figure. He looks cool and his side kicks are awesome but you’ve giving a bit to chew on.

@@MoDXtraGC figure and animals look great. Agree the accessories might have been a bit better. Honestly it was the realisation that I had no connection to the character. My love from this line stems from the toys I had. I don’t remember him from the Action Force comics or cartoon. I think sometimes there’s pressure to preorder in seconds or you will miss out. Dropped the preorder but after seeing him in hand I just talked myself out of it. Especially with so much more due out.
