- John Horgan was famously recorded singing Jimmy McCarthy’s song “Bright Blue Rose”, while tending at the Crossroads Bar in Knockavilla, near Innishannon in Co. Cork last month.
After telling his story to C103's CorkToday show a recording studio contacted the radio station.
John has now recorded the song professional and here it is...
CorkToday broadcasts on C103 Radio across Cork week mornings from 10am to 1pm

im from derry this is ireland for me i love it class loved to have been on the high stool at the bar that night
Well done John Horgan - a pure voice - and why not when your a Corkman. Lovely.
Frank
The best arrangement of this song I have ever heard,so natural & effortless, I have Tim Coughlan on Corks 103fm pestered every Sunday night to play it. Well done John Horgan.
This was another Susan Boyle moment for me. I feel so proud a fella countryman has such a voice, and doesn't even know how good he really is. Beautiful.
Congratulations John, You have a beautiful natural singing voice then blends in with the banjo and other musical instruments. Credit must also go to your fellow Cork genius Jimmy McCarthy for his brilliant Lyrics of 'Bright Blue Rose' It's all Cork!
Up Cork! I'll drop in for a pint or two someday....
From Houston Mississippi in the USA. Well done Sir!! Love this song and voice!!
How are you girl thes is me ara by name is aoife Shelley from cork if you what you love How is cork today patrika on the radio c103 I love you on c103 radio if you what you can txt me back please okay now xx
What a beautiful voice. I just love it, even though the best composition was for sure with in the bar being accompanied by just the banjo and not the full band - their music is pushing too much in the foreground and take away a little of his wonderous voice. Wish they made a professional recording with just the banjo. Much love from Germany, please always keep singing dear John Horgan, you are spreading so much happyness with your angelic voice.
Fabulous job John - well done.
Beautiful song what a great voice************
Beautiful job........A Voice for Ireland!
So schön. John hat eine Stimme, die Balsam für Seele ist. Hab Gänsehaut pur. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland 😍
beautiful voice more more and many more needed x God bless x
Brilliant version..straight from the heart...♥
Listening from Newfoundland Canada. Loves this song very good job keep it up
I am a relative of his! my aunties husbands brother!! cant believe he got a record deal
The style of singing Mr. Horgan exhibits crossed the Atlantic in the 18th & 19th centuries to the British colonies and evolved into the sound from the Blue Ridge Mountains someone labeled "high, lonesome" to describe the voice of the the back country> It is wonderful to hear this ancient, pure tone singing such a beautiful song.
Lovely voice could listen to him all day
Beautifully sung
And here it is, october of 2015, and he brings it forth to fame.. even though it's been done in the past.. a good voice is ne'er bad, redone! Love it and him and my favorite Mary Black and her brothers, from the SF bay area !
Great singer, lovely tone.
What a Gift this man has , a great range , pure clear voice , I feel he does not know quite how good he really is. Just an awesome voice ... Pint please John ,,, Hope to meet you some day.. better yet hope to hear you live some day , and I will have my pint..
Sounds so much better without the music, that's what was so good about the bar singing it was the perfect arrangement, certainly the best so far with this song, like the previous comment I agree the music gets in the way of his perfect voice, surely a record company should know better, do it again but just with the banjo, don't over produce it,
Either way john your a legend and i now luv this song because of you, hopefully I can one day visit.
The Pub
Couldn't agree more! Still a fab voice and song tho!
tim lee totally agree. all it needs is the singing and the banjo. this is too polished
+tim lee I like it both ways; I love him being backed up, like in here, so much! Ya can't go wrong with a lovely voice be it acapello or with instrumental back up.
I agree the pub recording sounded better..even though it was just recorded on a mobile phone..
Well done, John Horgan !

This sort of guy could sing "as andy roved out"...true irish singing voice. Bread butter and sugar...I'll give that to big john.
do you have another link for this beautful voice?
Where might a yank across the pond find this song in mp3 format?
😚😂🤣😊
The music was NOT needed....and instead it was really "In the way" of Mr. Horgan's beautiful voice.
The music just sounded like some badly done Midi recording.
If the company wants to do him or the song justice they need to record it again with JUST his voice.
...or at the very least with just a LIVE banjo. (Like it was done in the clip that made him famous)
Critism first..
Drop the machine music..
Get a reelband with Gaelictunes to do the arrangement..
John Horgan, U got a natural voice and tune.. You can reach much father than this.. British got Talent.. No music, just you.. That was be a winner..
Btw.. this is 6 years ago.. Were are u now?
If he doesn't get a double breakfast roll there will be no singing...
over produced bullshit destroys the soul
It's a fine rendition but no comparison to his behind the bar masterpiece...I fully get what you are saying.
