  • How I take care of my lovely European pill mills. One thing I forgot to mention is that these guys also need calcium just like Isopods. I provide in the form of egg shells and cuttlebone. They also like vegetables like carrots and squash as well as treats like repashy morning wood.
    Species in this bin are pulchra, ornata, pustulata, tetrasticha, undulata, and lastly hexasticha (which I forgot to mention).

    Best n only care guide I trust thanks man just found out these exist and saw some good ones I liked in Texas. Might try them out.

    Great video Eli. Thanks for sharing. For the most part, are people reproducing the Glomeris in captivity (I know you are with your skills :)

    • @elcastro5000
      @elcastro5000  Před 5 lety +1

      They reproduce quite slowly. Taking a while to grow and having small broods. But they are by far the ones being bred the most in captivity. Quite easy when you get them set up right. Just takes patience These and their Thai counterparts Rhopalomeris. But even with those many are wild caught.

    Did these do well for you? How long were you able to keep them? Did they breed well?

    • @elcastro5000
      @elcastro5000  Před rokem +1

      Yes they do very well but they are a bit temp sensitive. They decline in temps above like 80 degrees for very long.

    I heard baking kills the good stuff and the bad stuff. Can you tell me about your experience?

    • @elcastro5000
      @elcastro5000  Před rokem +1

      I don't really recommend baking anymore. Putting in a sealed opaque trash bag or something and leaving in the sun for a couple days is more than enough to kill anything harmful and leave the good stuff in tact

    Aren't you worried of them hybridizing due to being together?

    • @elcastro5000
      @elcastro5000  Před rokem +1

      Hybridization has not yet been observed in Diplopoda (millipedes). It is either not possible or exceedingly rare. F1 hybrids would likely not even be fertile in the 1 in a billion chance they occurred.

    Love the pill millipedes but seems more difficult to keep than isopods

    • @elcastro5000
      @elcastro5000  Před 5 lety

      I think they're way easier than some species of Isopods. Especially some of the pickier Spanish and Asian species. They just need a bit more complicated setup. But once you have their setup and temps right they're not bad at all.

    Is it difficult to differentiate between the different species of glomeris?

    • @elcastro5000

    Are they stll alive? And are they reproducing? I want to get some but I'm scared that they're as fragile as tropical species.

    • @elcastro5000
      @elcastro5000  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes and yes. They are not like the African and Asian species. The are impossible to keep alive in captivity due to a symbiotic relationship with the bacteria and fungi in their digestive system that usually die and cause the millipede to starve in captivity.
      Not the case with glomeris.

    Hey I had some Glomeris in a box with some Armadillidium, and I don't know why they all died but the Armadillidium have lots of babies. Do you know if there can be some probleme putting these two together or if they have different habitat (dont think so) ? also do you know how much water should we put and how often ? Thanks

    • @elcastro5000
      @elcastro5000  Před 4 lety

      Watch my glomeris care video. They do have different care from Isopods and they shouldn't be housed with Isopods. The Isopods will out compete and stress the docile and slow growing/breeding glomeris.

      @@elcastro5000 Okay thanks! also have you ever noticed some kind of "grey stain" like the shell is becoming grey at some tiny part, idk what it is, some kind of infection/fungi ?

      Hm. I'd need a picture to know exactly what you're talking about. But sometimes you can see what's in their gut if it's dark enough. Could also be them getting ready for a molt.

    • @elcastro5000
      @elcastro5000  Před 5 lety +1

      It's never been observed. They evolved similar reproductive organs as isopods and the different species are incompatible with each other like Isopods.
