    Why hasn't there ever been a Scarlet Octopre Dynamic to 18i20 setup video? It makes no sense that the 2 most expensive devices in the Scarlet line have never been featured together. I'm having a hell of a time trying to get mine to sync.

    would this make the latency of each interface the same? And as the octo pre isnt connected via firewire will it have the same thunderbolt latency of the clarett?

    If I used a Scarlett 18i20, and wanted to take advantage of the inputs AND outputs on the Octopre MKII Dynamic, would I have to use a second ADAT cable to connect the 18i20 input to the octopre output, and the 18i20 output to the octopre input?

    Currently using an 18i20, tempted to upgrade to this but I've got a couple of questions
    A) is it worth it? I know you've got to promote and sell units but is it worth paying £700 just for thunderbolt connectivity? Or is there other features I've overlooked?
    B) There doesn't seem to be a pad switch on the unit or in focusrite control - is there one built in to the mic/line switch? is a pad switch not needed? or is it something I'd have to spring for the 8pre X to have?

      There are probably 4 other inputs somewhere on your interface. On mine SPDIF is 9 and 10... so my ADAT starts at 11 onwards. Slightly annoying, I know.

      If your external preamp unit (for example, Octopre Mk2) has an optical output that uses the ADAT format, you can connect it to the optical input on your Saffire Pro 40. We have an article here that explains how to do that: bit.ly/2YvqEYN

      Si su unidad de preamplificación externa (por ejemplo Clarett OctoPre) tiene una salida óptica que utiliza el formato ADAT, puede conectarla a la entrada óptica de su interfaz Focusrite para grabar más canales en el software de grabación (DAW) de su computadora. Algunas interfaces Focusrite más grandes también tienen una salida óptica, que se puede conectar a la entrada óptica de su unidad de preamplificador externo, si la tuviera. El uso de ADAT le permite pasar audio desde su computadora a cualquier salida analógica en la unidad de preamplificación externa. El formato digital ADAT puede transportar hasta 8 canales de audio, y esto depende de la frecuencia de muestreo que desee utilizar.

      That's right, using one of these in Standalone Mode would allow you to expand your i/o and access the additional analog inputs via ADAT. We have an article here that explains how to set this up: support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115003394169-How-do-I-set-up-my-Clarett-or-Scarlett-2nd-Gen-for-Standalone-Mode-

    Can I connect two clarett prex with this optical connector? Or does it have to be a octopre?

    • @FocusriteTV
      @FocusriteTV  Před 6 lety

      That's certainly possible, ADAT expansion isn't limited to OctoPre. The best way to connect both interfaces would be to connect one to the Thunderbolt port on your Mac then use the other in 'Standalone Mode', connecting the ADAT cables to the ADAT input and output of the Clarett that is connected to the Mac. ADAT is limited to 4 channels at 96kHz as per the ADAT specification limitations. However the 8PreX has 2 ADAT inputs and 2 ADAT outputs, which will allow you to work around this limitation by using 2 ADAT optical cables. Using this resolution you can record 8 channels at 96kHz and 24bit! You can find more information on how to set this up here: support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115003394169-How-do-I-set-up-my-Clarett-or-Scarlett-2nd-Gen-for-Standalone-Mode-

      +stupidusername38 If you already have a PC with a Thunderbolt port fitted as standard, it is most likely ready to use. However, if you plan to buy a PCIe card to obtain Thunderbolt connectivity, you will need to find a card which is compatible with your motherboard - please consult your motherboard vendor or PC manufacturer for details on which card to buy and how to install and configure it.

      @FocusriteTV  Před 5 lety

      You can connect the Liquid Saffire 56 to the Scarlett 18i20 using the optical I/O that both units have. Using a digital optical cable, you can take an output from the optical out of the Liquid Saffire 56 to the optical in of the 18i20. This will allow you to send the Liquid Saffire 56's 8 input channels to the 18i20 which will appear in MixControl as ADAT channels 9-16. You will need to ensure the sample rate on both devices is set to the same value and the 18i20's MixControl Sync Source is set to ADAT.
