@@harrypottah8889 it does not have to be. Travel with friends, share expenses, pack your own food, camp, if able sleep in your vehicle...
When I was young I traveled a lot, kids made that more expensive but still my children knew the entire US before they graduated high school, even lived in several states. We'd rent a hotel room and do all of the museums of DC on a divorced mother's budget a few times a year. You'd be amazed what you can afford if you investigate options.
Skip the expensive coffees, eat out less, spend less on clothes, partying...take a weekend, travel a few states away. You can camp out for a weekend, explore the area and have a great time for a couple hundred dollars.
I hope you take the opportunity to do so in the future, there is an amazing world out there waiting on you!
Due to visa reasons I'm not allowed to travel to even see my family, not every person has the same circumstances, let alone money.
@@aegisreflector1239 as I pointed out, travel does not necessarily mean extensive, expensive, leaving the country traveling. Small trips to different areas of your state, bordering states, country etc.
I live 5 hrs from DC, 4 hrs from the beach, 5 hrs from Philly...
Each place has tons of free stuff to explore, different cultural experiences and vast differences in opportunities.
The most it will cost you is a tank of gas.

I didn't know you could camp host in a van. I just bought a 1999 Mercury van with only 81,000 miles. There is lots of space in it. I have thought about camp hosting. My daughter has grown up and left the nest. So I've been thinking about traveling a little bit.

❤ Hey Mateo and Lars !!! I am a former "Vanlifer" by default ( I went through a DV and ended up homeless to get away from my abuser) at first All I did was cry. But I really ended up loving it, and lived in my van, Tatanka, for 4 years. I am "re-housed" now, but am still craving the freeness of van life. I swear one day I will be on the road again because I really just loved it once I learned that it is really as easy as getting a gym membership for showers, a cozy bed and simple necessities and you are going to be ok. I did also build a portable shower ( in case i went swimming in the ocean or something) and a portable toilet from a 5 gallon bucket and snap top lid from Walmart in the camping section. Was a lifesaver for me. I hope you have the best times ever. I also have a black cat, Raven who was with me for the last year in my van.

I spent my entire early childhood and adulthood doing live theatre and even got my BFA in it (Go DePaul Blue Demons! 🫶🏾) and had a heck of an identity crisis when I just didn't want to do it anymore. Still love it but tired of the pace and not finding the kinds of projects that excite me. I felt so very lost. Hearing @winterisblu Mateo here talk about his experience just gave me a sense of calm and joy knowing seeing that the shift and change in identity is not a loss of self but more of a discovery of another facet of self. Ive been working towards transitioning from the shelter I currently live in to mobile tiny home living. My desire is to have everything in place so that once I recover from the kidney transplant I'm waiting for, I can stabilize myself with sustainable tiny living and reduce my chances of depending on a shelter for basic needs in the future. Thank you for all the tips as I am truly inspired with the gems you dropped that I can find a way to escape shelter life while on dialysis.
Im learning how to edit so I can launch my own channel about living in a shelter while on dialysis (The STRUGGLE 😫😭).

I also love restaurant hopping, finding the "hole-in-the-wall" places that make incredible foods. Being retired military and on social security benefits help me to travel. Awesome info into your world. I enjoy watching van life youtubers and have always wondered how y'all got by. I will never become a van life, truck life, travel vlogger, etc because I do enjoy my home life, my set job, and most of all, I'm a home-body and enjoy playing videos games with my online friends and watching youtube and streams. But it's also wonderful and interesting to learn about life outside of my small world. It's also just as amazing how people can get by in such an expensive and technological world that we live in today. I would never be able to do this kind of living on my own haha. 1. Shower at the gym (choose a 24 hr gym). 2. Mail sent to a friend's address. 3. Keep bottle water, breakfast bars, wet wipes in vehicle. 4. Purchase fan that works on batteries. 5. Purchase a urinal 🤐 They make them for men and women. 6. Purchase a small camping power generator to charge your phone and tablet.

Thank you for telling your story. I can relate with the feeling of entrapment of the mundane life. I took a leap and took my 19 year old son to a week road trip from Orlando Fl to NC Charlotte, Asheville, Pisgah National Park. Saw the most beautiful mountains, Sliding Rock, went swimming in the river. I can say I felt in love with so much natural beauty and amazing people I met along the way. I want more. USA is so pretty. You continue to keep it real. 🥰
If you ever go back to western NC, climb to the top of Looking Glass Rock and also visit Graveyard Field along the Blue Ridge Parkway, where people camp during blueberry season to gather blueberries. That's starting pretty soon (late August) if not already in full swing. And go behind Dry Falls to get misty with all the happy salamanders.

Working just to pay bills got old for my girl and I as well. Last year was incredible for us. We traveled 5 times last year from flying to cruises. It was a dream to not have to worry about having to get ready for work. We needed that time to heal our bodies and our view of other things eventually changed as well. We are about ready to go back to work but we are very positive about the future and our plans moving forward. Once the bird is let out of the cage never allow it to be put back into that small enclosure ever again.
That can all change when you get fired.
