Usually truck stops have showers. It's a bit expensive at 15.00 a shower but they are warmer in the winter than gym showers, the waters hotter and you can spend at least 30 mins in the shower. During slow times you could probably stay in the shower longer. They also are more private than a gym shower, they have locking doors and only 1 person in the shower at a time. I've been to gyms where there's no stalls or walls around the showers so the privacy is nice
What are you talking about? We woman drivers will spend an hour or 2 getting a shower and getting ready for the day! It tends to be busy later in the day and the wait can be ridiculous but if you do it in the early morning or even early enough in the day because once the SOLAR POWER DRIVERS shut down you can forget it.
Once I was at the truck stop in Dallas TX just trying to take a regular shower to go the ER. The 2 truck stops are busy! It took me 3 hours to wash my body, dry off, get dressed, and brush my teeth. Not even get girly up like normal because I was really bad off. NOT ONCE did any employee knock on my door. Went to disconnect my trailer and put a king pin lock on it. Disoriented me stood up under the trailer and ended up with a huge clob of 5th wheel grease in my hair. Got in the truck and drove to the ER. That 5th wheel grease stayed in my 6 days as they admitted me and only gave me sponge baths and didn't wash my hair!
I think a harder cost to calculate is the "wear and tear' factor on your vehicle. There are wearing parts like tires, rotors, break pads, belts. There are fluids like oil, break fluid, transmission fluid, engine coolant, wiper-washer fluid etc. Most of that never gets calculated. But more than that, there is a cost to putting miles on your car. Your valves are being worn, your pistons are being worn, your gears are being worn. With every mile, you are using up your car. And the cost usually comes due when you end up having to buy an entirely new car for yourself. Most vehicles are not made for high mileage and interstate trips on a regular basis. Its even worse if you are doing it in a used car. But that is often a very overlooked expense by van life nomads
self employed can deduct mileage, which includes wear and tear. I bought a van that should run for 12 more years and it cost the same as 6 months rent. Over those 10 years, with maintenance and repairs, I save more than 90 percent on housing costs, that's not even counting water, sewer, garbage. I bought a solar panel and battery. That cost the same as 1 year of power bills in my apartment. Expected life-more than 10 years Over the 10 years, I would be able to save $100,000 on rent and that is not taking increases into account. That's a good emergency fund for a new to me vehicle. I have full coverage insurance which will always be an expense as long as I have a vehicle.

Just a TIP they have an $80 year pass for all national parks in the states and it also works for some Blm lands too! I’m about to get me one! Right now I park in city areas but soon I want to start staying at parks and campsites
Great break down. I would say most travel/van life vloggers never really break down their monthly expenses in front of the audience. Crazy how decently well you live with such little expenses. And here I am spending $$ on video games, paying 30+ bucks for uber eats because I'm feeling lazy to cook or drive myself. I feel like van life really humbles you financially. Side note, no health insurance? I would imagine that would be probably be one of the top things to make sure a travel vlogger has. I would imagine travel vlogging and van life carries more significant overall health risks compared to being in a settled, home setting. One big accident puts a huge hole in the pocket.

I have a male cat too and it's good that you are giving him wet food. Males can get stones in their urethra and kidney issues if they don't get enough water, and cats are bad about not drinking enough water. My fur monster gets some wet and dry food daily. Seems like you are a good cat dad :-)
Food banks / pantries are generally for low income, but they are a Godsend for the poor. Definitely a good service. If you know to look, there are tons of free benefits available for the poor, depending on location.
Around $300 for food, for a single bro isn’t a lot 😂 I’ll just clarify, I am also a single male with a kitty and I spend probably $350, sometimes more every month. That includes my stuff and all my cat’s stuff. Food is SO expensive these days and honestly you run to the store for like 5 things and you’re paying like $40-50 minimum, that’s crazy! I don’t live in my car or do your lifestyle but it’s just me, my cat and my apartment. You are right on par though for food costs.

4:50 I don’t think $330.00 / month on food is too bad… when you take into consideration the major price increase in groceries for the last 18 months. I set a food budget of $200 for food on the road… I cook just about ALL my meals, I think I’ve eaten fast food or diner maybe a total of 3 times in 2 1/2 months. Yet- it wasn’t enough… didn’t run the receipts but I’m pretty sure I ended up closer to $300/month for food. Solo female and a kitty.

You might want to look into getting a care credit card. I use it for medical things mostly for myself and at the vets office, we have three dogs and a cat. They have deferred interest so you can pay it off over a year if need be without interest. 45.00 a month for pet insurance 😬 that's 540.00. Look into it, it may work for you as well. Also, we use VIP pet vet they have them stationed at a lot of tractor supply stores. You pay for the shots, there is no office visit fee😊. They don't take the care credit card itself, but care credit has a MasterCard that's the one we have now, you can use it anywhere. Hope this info helps. Safe travels 🛣️...

I currently live in a rv always was kinda embarrassed until I seen so menu locals doing the same thing in rv parking area's and then I've seen van life and it makes me feel good that I'm not wasting money on rent and I'm actively being smart enough living this way my child support is $800! Yeah that's an apartment monthly payment(almost).I just recently loss my jeep that was able to tow it also been parked in this spot far to long [ like a year feeling like in I'm stuck here so I need to get a van or something

$330 a month on food breaks down to just over $82 a week. In today's skyrocketing inflation, that's actually not terrible at all! I've kept the Planet Fitness membership info for a while now. I haven't started my Vanlife/RVlife yet but I know I will when my landlord forces the issue by making me move into a renovated unit, which will increase my rent by 110%! I've already decided I'm going to call it quits to the work/rent cycle and get a van or small RV. I work remotely as it is, and my company is very accommodating in this regard. Ironic seeing as I work for the largest Property company in the nation. LOL I've been doing my homework, watching videos, creating a vanlife list on Amazon, researching what I'll need, what I can totally do without, and what type of set-up I'm going to require. I'm leaning more towards a small RV only because my job requires two monitors and a van just won't work. I'd like to eventually do a box truck build out but just don't have the funds for that.

You don’t need a mileage tracker. That’s $120 a year wasted. Write down the odometer on January first and December 31. The difference is your miles.

You might want to look into getting a care credit card. I use it for medical things mostly for myself and at the vets office, we have three dogs and a cat. They have deferred interest so you can pay it off over a year if need be without interest. 45.00 a month for pet insurance 😬 that's 540.00.
Look into it, it may work for you as well. Also, we use VIP pet vet they have them stationed at a lot of tractor supply stores. You pay for the shots, there is no office visit fee😊. They don't take the care credit card itself, but care credit has a MasterCard that's the one we have now, you can use it anywhere.

I currently live in a rv always was kinda embarrassed until I seen so menu locals doing the same thing in rv parking area's and then I've seen van life and it makes me feel good that I'm not wasting money on rent and I'm actively being smart enough living this way my child support is $800! Yeah that's an apartment monthly payment(almost).I just recently loss my jeep that was able to tow it also been parked in this spot far to long [ like a year feeling like in I'm stuck here so I need to get a van or something

I've kept the Planet Fitness membership info for a while now. I haven't started my Vanlife/RVlife yet but I know I will when my landlord forces the issue by making me move into a renovated unit, which will increase my rent by 110%! I've already decided I'm going to call it quits to the work/rent cycle and get a van or small RV.
I work remotely as it is, and my company is very accommodating in this regard. Ironic seeing as I work for the largest Property company in the nation. LOL
I've been doing my homework, watching videos, creating a vanlife list on Amazon, researching what I'll need, what I can totally do without, and what type of set-up I'm going to require. I'm leaning more towards a small RV only because my job requires two monitors and a van just won't work. I'd like to eventually do a box truck build out but just don't have the funds for that.
