This is great,father and son together working as one.my dad used to have two freezers also,and kept them stocked for winter as well.brought back some great memories of him.lots of great young life in those pots.good to see them.really enjoyed this video and as for popeye the Larry,what a beast.those spider crabs looked great.well done.

I store lobsters like that too most of the time. Because its so expensive here in Australia, I usually buy a cooked lobster a month or two before Christmas and thaw it out on Christmas eve. Beautiful.

Really solid video mate! One thing that I've always felt with your videos is that the high pitch sound when you speed the video up can be a bit jolting sometimes, might be worth considering lowering the audio during the fast-forward sections or just muting it. Otherwise good stuff, keep the content coming!

How big are Spider Crabs supposed to be before you keep them? That was confusing the hell out of me, because they looked delicious and big compared to a lot of other crabs I've seen. The lobsters are what looked small, so there must be some specific laws.

just wondering about the frozen lobsters, why does he freeze his lobsters cooked?
genuine question, just because If I have to freeze something then I feel like its better to freeze it when its fresh as soon as its caught,
so you can defrost it and cook later,
is there something about lobster that makes it more rubbery or something if its frozen fresh and then defrosted and cooked, rather than cooked and then frozen?

I've always wanted to know that
I have worked in kitchens that buy big frozen blocks of about 20-30 big king prawns [the type that are the length of your middle finger and fatter than your thumb]
and they come in "fresh frozen" so they have been frozen as soon as they were harvested.
in every kitchen i have worked in, the idea of buying a similar sized king prawn, pre cooked and frozen, to be then defrosted and cooked is something that most chefs would frown upon. so I was just wondering about the logic with something so expensive as a lobster...[I know you catch them but they are ÂŁ18.00 a piece where i live]
Maybe its more to do with the tradition of cooking lobster as soon as you kill it?
looking into it you can only seem to buy frozen cooked lobster from all the big supermarkets in the uk, so maybe it just the best way to freeze lobster?
like i say i think it will be something about the texture changing, but I dont really know...

In a lot of Asian countries they donât kill the lobsters and crabs beforehand because the âhead butterâ is a delicacy and would leak out while boiling if the lobsters or crabs were dispatched the way you show.
Does freezing ruin the head butter?
@@trparnell87 not that I know of, I just meant killing the fresh ones like smash has.
Good point tho, I guess freezing them to death is more humane? I am from Colorado and Iâve heard of how it goes down. In humans at least. You get cold, then when you are starting to die, you get confused and take off all of your clothing because your body can no longer hold the warm blood in your core and it rushes to your extremities. Making you feel like you are burning up, then after you are in your skivvies obviously your total body temp plummets and you fade of into a deep... DEEP... sleep.
Is that any better then boiling?
@@forteandblues you're comparing warm blood to cold blood though. When cold blooded animals get too cold they slip into a deep sleep much akin to hibernation. Warm blooded creature's bodies act differently. Especially humans since we've evolved to make tools to help us regulate our bodies. Ie clothing, shelter, harnessing fire.
@@trparnell87 thatâs a great point. And I have heard of that. I know you can boil a frog without it even getting upset if you do it slow enough. So that makes logical sense.
Then comes the argument of if it is still âfreshâ after itâs been frozen.
@@forteandblues true. Looks like I got some research to do. Food is so interesting. Like I just watched video comparing fresh garlic to the persevered kinds. How there is an chemical that gives garlic its heat but it breaks down when preserved.
