We live in a country of ignorance, the monopolized news media is the best reason as to why. Is it really any surprise these "journalists" don't know American history... especially at the Emmys?
Oliver was witty as usual and some of the questions were ridiculously leading, I don't hear other emmy winners answering such questions. Well done and well deserved.
That question was asked on the basis that, Media has been responsible lately for the popularity of Trump. Trump has been given way too much air time than he deserves. Since, John Oliver calls himself a comedian, but we all know, that some people DO take his show seriously for real world news and not entirely just for comedy purposes. That's why, the focus of his show on Trump has certainly been slightly responsible, for Trump's popularity as well.
But he purposefully avoided talking about him on almost every show. He's done only a couple segments on him, and only when it became likely Trump would win the nomination.
also, his discussion of Trump has been far more critical of him as a candidate than most of the news media. they mess around and poke at the issue, but they don't really challenge it. Like, his segments on Trump have basically dismantled all of the remotely reasonable reasons people have for voting for him. his show, and the daily show have been the only ones to actually look at Trump as a candidate and evaluate his ability to do anything.
exactly!People mix things up in these events so easily when politics etc are involved!he Has the Number 1 News Comedy and information Show Over the world..and deserves This award So very much..Ijust Love him.and has put his heart and soul in The show..!❤✌
i dont think there has been a president candidate that speaks his mind (even if 90% of the information he says is wrong) as much as donald trump before i guess thats why alot of people ask questions about him even tho its not needed
"Do you think that you have fault in create Trump?" Then almost all the questions of the journalists there were about trump giving him free publicity at an television award.
Does that suggest that he has more power than the politicians. Does his voice/research sway more people. His work is excellent, well-researched, and he got to chat in person with Edward Snowdon. He's awesome, and I wish he'd been better appreciated in Britain. We need his satire now more than ever....
It's a shame he didn't explicitly beg the press to question Trump (or Clinton, which has actually been much less of an issue so I didn't lead with that) as tenaciously and seriously as they were him.
Or when he said "I'm experiencing taxation without representation... which was annoying when we inflicted it on them... Now I get it." Its like they weren't even listening.
Holy shit, he is so nervous, you can see that he really did not expect to stand there :D Yet he still manages to give short, clear answers and slip in a few jokes. That's pretty neat.
so weird listening to john oliver speaking and not hearing a bunch of people laughing at the same time, i cant wait to see what hes gonna do with this gold on his next episode
Doesn't matter I still laughed my ass off at all this Trump business lol Almost every fucking talk show address Trump's policies and called out his bullshit ON CAMERA...meanwhile, Fallon is in the back still praying for an Emmy...Fallon has basically become the new Carson Daly...as in...who the fuck watches that show? -.-
John Oliver has out-journalisted the journalists and now they are out for blood. I like how Oliver points out how much work it is to put out quality reporting. Take note, media researchers~
with that same shithead logic, you can't teach someone anything unless you specialize in that respective field of study. and let me correct your wording: "his show presents [an] opinion, [backed with actual facts]."
Why do I bite the troll's bait? I'm willing to bet that _in addition to those things_ (granting you a presumption that you are even correct in the first place), you would also find that he presents ample actual evidence in support of whatever his assertions as well. It's a fallacy that engaging in ad hominems, out of context quotes, and poor analogies automatically negates all evidence which doesn't contain any of those things. Even a liar can tell the truth, and their being a liar in no way alters that truth- they are two entirely separate and unrelated things.
I dare you to give me one example. I've watched the videos. So don't dismiss my question for "laziness" or inability to think critically. I'm not gonna argue your position for you. This is why CZcams can't have constructive debates.
***** Well that response was condescending af. The only thing we can agree on is that this is comedy. He is not a News Network. Bias is obvious, but he gives a very interesting perspective on these issues. His bias doesn't discredits the facts he presents. You can interpret those facts differently, but facts are facts. And he's giving us his take on them.
The Australian reporter is trash, she is daughter of a disgraced politician who was forced to quite. Australian immigration policy isn't like Trump's. We just have refugees in our own off shore concentration camps....
It was a fair call. Angela Bishop holds a special place with Richard Wilkins as worst entertainment reporter, which in itself is the lowest rung on the ever sliding ladder of journalism.
It was a fair call. Angela Bishop holds a special place with Richard Wilkins as worst entertainment reporter, which in itself is the lowest rung on the ever sliding ladder of journalism.
John is a breath of fresh air. The press showed their true colors in this interview and reaffirmed why we need someone like John and his show. What a bunch of douchebags. Congrats to you John, as well as your staff. A well-deserved award.
No, I don't think I, nor anybody else, is overreacting. The press obviously had an ax to grind and John was the target. It's not very hard to see that they were complete douchebags.
I thought they were being OK with him... but they did seem rather dry and robotic. Very awkward. (he cracked several jokes and they didn't get it... is it still too soon to make Empire jokes, America? Really? 😜)
Totally agree! The questions were incredibly dumb & ignorant. The guy wins an Emmy not because he makes jokes about Trump (EVERYBODY makes jokes about Trump). He won because his show goes really deep into issues other people ignore, because of his brilliant practical demonstrations. Founding your own church, buying other people's debts, these are actions that are absolutely unique in the TV industry and there was not even one fucking comment about any of that. It only makes it that much more obvious why Last Week Tonight deserved to win this award.
But he's British and he actually talked about Trump on his show! (nevermind it was all anti-Trump, shh). This man clearly is promoting Trump, come on guys. What a monster.
I think John did a magnificent job at talking about Trump. Most of Trump's media critique have been styled in the form of baser humour that ultimately only led to him receiving free publicity that convinced idiots Trump was a victim of biased media. John had an extremely clear agenda in his comedic "broadside" against Trump. The man is a master orator.
He made a point of not mentioning Trump until 2016 because he viewed any election news before 2016 as a waste of time and a cheap way to get views. Why waste breath talking about something that would happen next year when more current things are happening?
You have to remember, over in the UK we spend about a month campaigning. This whole year and a half shit means nothing to us. One month, get it over with!
Agreed Acid, but I really don't think the media could stop Trump. And is it really the media's role to do so?I mean for the most part their job as journalists is supposed to report and remain impartial even if they don't. If there is anyone to blame though, I would say it is Fox News, but it's hard to tell if Trump's candidacy is problematic for them.
The reporters were asking him really biased and stupid questions..but he got back at them..and boy did David from Israel and the Australian's Angela asked the worst questions.why out of all people would he be responsible for trump when he didn't even exploit him as much.so much stupidity in one room. Also the little curtsy thing he did at the end. Man he's funny
He said that they purposefully avoided talking about him as a candidate until it was obvious there was no more ignoring they could do. He had taken the lead as a candidate and it was clear we were going to deal with him for many more months. So I think he tried to stay classy as long as possible about Trump, while everyone else jumped on every word he made from the beginning.
They probably didn't even know who he was, and were operating on what they'd just read on Wikipedia. It's not their fault, really -- I bet their bosses would ride their asses if they just stood silent through the entire thing.
I can see the realization slowly creeping into Oliver's expression. Like he's thinking, "ooooh, so this is why everyone comes to me for the news. All these other reporters suck"
That's what reporters have to be all the time, the fact that they have decided to start doing it to John Oliver at an awards show means they are really angry with the satirical commentary pointing out their ineptitude with nearly all of the political candidates this last 12 months. It was the same with Sorkins 'Newsroom'. Journalists hated it because it told them they did a shit job. These reporters were insinuating that because Oliver made jokes about Trump he allowed him to gain so much traction. In reality, when the reporters don't shut Trump or any other bullshit political candidate down the moment they appear in their newspapers or broadcasts, they have failed.
When you can back up your outlandish comedy with actual fact . . it no longer becomes simply comedy, it's now a commentary that's presented in a funny manner.
While that may speak volumes about Oliver and others like him, it actually does so only because he fills a gap he shouldn't be filling. If we had real mainstream journalism (you can find plenty of excellent facts - that's what he does - and journalists everywhere), he would be a comedian, period. He doesn't go into the field or into a warzone or whatever. He googles and he makes us laugh. We don't have the newspapers anymore. We're fucked because we're a generation raised on people who mirror that lack and we mistake this mirror for reality.
+Schlomo Weissbergman-Goldsteinwitz, Ph.D. There are more than enough sense to increase the diversity, like economic growth, multiculturism, social productivity at so on, is there any sense in not doing that?
How is that a burn on Australia though. Most Australians are glad to have strict border control and think that it would suck to be anything like Europe and the US with so many illegals.
Don't speak for'most' of us, we aren't all assholes. He was accurate here, and I have no idea why our press was even there - how embarrassing. We are in no place to throw stones.
LOL these journalist go after John about trump hard. To bad they did not do that to trump when they were interviewing him. How are blaming him since they are real journalist that helped cause this mess.
They give Trump deep tissue massages so that he'll come back on their show and bump up their ratings. They care more about the clicks, ratings, and views than they care about actually doing news.
Seeing all your replies, Steven Krazier, the opposite seems to be true. You don't seem to construct any serious argument to Hillary (I mean, no one really likes her, but she is the best of a bad bunch caused by your American two horse presidential system) while swearing often and to the point of incoherence. And on the way traditional media has gone after Trump, it has been highlighted by many that news moderators did not do a good enough job at fact checking and pulling up Trumps incorrect statements, allowing him to weave a fantastical fiction of the current American predicament. Although I have to admit, the foreign media absolutely hates Trump, with even the most right wing, xenophobic British newspapers railing hard against Trump despite championing equally disgusting characters at home (Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, ect.).
Steven K If you can read I did not say they should let Hilery off the hook. If they are going to keep asking her about her emails. Then should do the same about trumps foundations and tax and birther movement. I know these are big words you might not understand. I would recommend going back to school to get a course in advanced English. I also recommend taking the short bus sounds more like your speed.
beyonce should just hit Jon up and be like "you are invited to my house for 1 hour to sit 10 feet behind me quietly and stare at my head while I watch netflix" that would be hilarious.
For the same reason Nickelback are still going - the more people talk about how much they hate something, the more it's talked about and more attention is drawn to it. That's the concept, anyway.
John Oliver was the only one who avoided doing any stories about him until it was clear he was the front runner for the Republican nomination. They had to agree that Trump was here to stay until at least the end of the elections in November and start actually reporting on his activities. Everyone else was on him since day one.
I don't have sky :( will have to make do with the YT version, maybe John Oliver should start a petition to replace the Great British Bake Off on the BBC...!
yeah we love John, here. I wouldn't worry about not getting it in the UK. It's only 30 minutes long and they put probably 20 minutes of it on youtube. His show is really awesome. Most topical comedy shows spend very few minutes on different topics. This is first time I have seen a show devote an entire show to one topic. Brilliant. It's like Frontline but funny and indignant.
Yeah, I was going to say the same. He was definitely was on TV which in the U.S. is considered somewhat successful. Many stand-ups struggle just to achieve that here. And mock the week is pretty top-rate show but he is British so of course he is going to down play that. I mean for god sakes didn't Ricky Gervais recommend him to Jon Stewart. You got to be doing something right if Ricky is recommending you.
What's with the Liverpool fans knowing of him? I assume he supports Liverpool or something. I mean I'm from Liverpool but I've never heard any random fans mention him
How could Oliver be responsible for Trump? He did his best to ignore the man until the realization came over us all that this guy was going to win the GOP nomination. Which he then tore into Trump with more facts than any media networked bother to do. Idk who asked that but wow. Also to his answer about comedy being needed in an election year. Last night "through the wormhole with Morgan Freeman" asked the question can we all become geniuses and one of the interesting things I learned was how brains react differently to comedy and fear. Fear will focus the brain making it harder to have insightful moments so it is no surprise that Trump's campaign of fear mongering attracts ignorance like bugs to a bug zapper, comedy however relaxes the brain allowing more insightful thought processes. So he shouldn't undervalue at all what comedy can do for this country, especially now.
John Oliver, congratulations on your awards!! Love your show! I really think it's a case of the students being able to surpass the master. Well, not really surpass it but definitely at the same level as John stewart but with your own identity. (It's just a shame how this press conference started)
God, every time I watch a video of Oliver I realize more and more of just how quick witted he genuinely is. He doesn't have to be on his show, he could just be anywhere and can still be funny and intelligent.
Your show sheds light on many many important topics, Puerto Rico being one. We all truly appreciated the informed attention you paid our little island.
Do the people asking these questions watch the show? He openly refused to talk about the 2016 election process BECAUSE he didn't want to contribute to the media storm surrounding a certain racist wigpole.
I love how real he is with everyone. He doesn't just answer their questions, he responds to the person. Says hello back to them, references past conversations with people he's met before, and calls out people for their bullshit. The calling out of bullshit has always been my favorite thing. Not many people can do it with such tact or entertaining class.
I'm still laughing at the Salmon Cannon. Very humble of Mr Oliver to think no one's heard of him in the UK, but he's wrong on that one! Lots of us are watching LWT on a regular basis. Kudos to the writing team, clearly evident that allot of hard work, sometimes over many months, goes into each show. Congrats to all involved.
I saw Oliver on Mock of the Week (BBC comedy improv show), and he was terrible. So there is some truth to he had to fail in Britain to make it in the US. Now he's brilliant. Thanks John and Co, keep it up! PTxS
His comedy was surreal, and his self-deprecation in full flow. 'I think we all know this isn't going to make the cut...'. But it still made the cut. The Owl will always win... It has the high ground...
I think stuff like Mock the Week was more jobbing comedian stuff and not really his element. Check out the Radio 4 show "The Department" for his more typical UK angle. He was an excellent satirist before he crossed the pond, albeit not all that well known.
I don't know who wrote the captions but thank you so much. I couldn't understand a single question. Edit: nevermind, it's automatic. Interesting translations.
Just such a class act, and our world class comedian. He's humble and honest. I am a huge fan of last week tonight John and the entire crew do an unbelievable job week after week.
I honestly think he is better at HBO with his own format--half of what makes LWT as good as it is is that he's not constrained at all, outside of time and budget.
He was great as the temporary host while John Stewart was shooting Rosewater. That having been said, part, if not most of The Daily Show's charm came from its host's charisma - the same can be said of The Colbert Report. No matter who you put as the replacement, the show would be forever changed, for better or for worse. With his own show, John Oliver doesn't have to worry about previous fans, sticking with an established format, or dealing with Comedy Central's policies. He's probably better off where he is.
John Oliver, you are incredible. Your show tackles real social issues in America with outstanding presentation. Please do not give up your work. Since John Stewart has retired, you're one of the very few rational and legitimate voices left on television.
"I'm experiencing taxation without representation... which was annoying when we inflicted it on them... Now I get it."
that one flew over a lot of heads lol
Yeah I loved that xD
I doubt it, to be honest. Maybe those people just don't have the greatest sort of humour.
So true lol
We live in a country of ignorance, the monopolized news media is the best reason as to why. Is it really any surprise these "journalists" don't know American history... especially at the Emmys?
Damn, tough crowd. He had some nice jokes and no one laughed.
I'm not sure but I think they're supposed to be neutral? But maybe they were tired 😄
Microphone only captures John and the interviewer.
It's a bunch of sober cunts in the crowd.
It's not a standup. It's a press conference.
The press is kind of a joke now, I understand his confusion. He killed it!
Oliver was witty as usual and some of the questions were ridiculously leading, I don't hear other emmy winners answering such questions. Well done and well deserved.
Do you feel responsible for Trump? what the fuck was that all about
That question was asked on the basis that, Media has been responsible lately for the popularity of Trump. Trump has been given way too much air time than he deserves. It's because he is incredibly unbiased unlike the media.
Love him or hate him, John deserved the win. Only he would curtsy out of a press interview.
who could possibly hate this guy?
Trump voters.
Bless the girl that just asked him how it feels to win. A normal post emmy question!
In a room full of journalists she was the only one with a heart and some common sense!
and it took over 3 minutes for that to happen!
exactly!People mix things up in these events so easily when politics etc are involved!he Has the Number 1 News Comedy and information Show Over the world..and deserves This award So very much..Ijust Love him.and has put his heart and soul in The show..!❤✌
she also said she was a huge fan. But seriously bless her heart
Boy does he NOT like stupid questions. Good man.
The guy just won an Emmy and the first three f*cking questions are about f*cking Donald Trump!!
i dont think there has been a president candidate that speaks his mind (even if 90% of the information he says is wrong) as much as donald trump before i guess thats why alot of people ask questions about him even tho its not needed
of course he did because Trump is making the hollywood holier than thou elites triggered even when he's not physically there.
@yousef mn Maybe not here in the US, however the Philippines would disagree.
"Do you think that you have fault in create Trump?" Then almost all the questions of the journalists there were about trump giving him free publicity at an television award.
Funny thing is the press are so serious on him, more than Politicians and government officials
that's true, he was questioned harder as a comedian at a freaking emmy award show than most politicians are on news stations. Ouch.
Does that suggest that he has more power than the politicians. Does his voice/research sway more people. His work is excellent, well-researched, and he got to chat in person with Edward Snowdon. He wasn't the best on mock the week, always trying to get in a political joke. He's much better placed in America anyway, and he knows it
"Back in the days of the empire it was a 100." Oh come the fuck on, no one found that funny?
I covered my mouth laughing. Shit was hilarious.
really regretted taking a sip of my morning tea right at that moment xD
Or when he said "I'm experiencing taxation without representation... which was annoying when we inflicted it on them... Now I get it."
Its like they weren't even listening.
My god the first few reporters were bloodhounds. John navigated like a pro nevertheless.
bloodhounds? more like hacks
Navigated, I would say absolutely decimated the first couple of reporters
Holy shit, he is so nervous, you can see that he really did not expect to stand there :D Yet he still manages to give short, clear answers and slip in a few jokes. That's pretty neat.
so weird listening to john oliver speaking and not hearing a bunch of people laughing at the same time, i cant wait to see what hes gonna do with this gold on his next episode

I agree! I love how he nervously curtsied at the end :,-D

Australian reporter is a massive hypocrite because they currently have Trump style immigration policies (minus the wall).
when was it?

It bothered me not hearing an audience laugh after every punch line he made
you could still hear 1 or 2 people laughing at his joke thouhg
though*
Its not an audience it was a bunch of reporters, Its kinda a no-no to be disruptive during interviews like this (press release style interviews)
I think most of them were smiling and chuckling, cause I was.
I'm sure there was plenty of laughing but the media doesn't have a mic on them like a live audience

I love how he refers to "himself" as we. He's the least egocentric person I know.
He deserved the win.
Queen Victoria also referred to herself as "we"
True...but I feel like the context is different, no?
I think we means we the show, as he mentioned, the staff.
John Oliver is Queen Victoria confirmed.
All hail Queen Oliver?
"Thank you, dad."
Isn't he ADORABLE? n_n
"do you blame yourself for trump?" wooooooow. what a horrible room.
taylor trash the short answer No and the long answer Hell fucking no
He took weeks and weeks on his show to even mention the name Donald Trump. How exactly is he responsible?

you're right Ewertton Tadeu reporters nowadays are unqualified and pathetic.
I can see the realization slowly creeping into Oliver's expression. Like he's thinking, "ooooh, so this is why everyone comes to me for the news. All these other reporters suck"
Hilariusly duchebaggy reporters in that room.
Yeah that was just weird, why did no one congratulate him until he pointed it out

I'm a Brit and I know you John and you were funny here but you are even funnier over there.
Nope - That's just him. In fact, there are a lot of things that the way John Oliver says them makes brits cringe.
LOL these journalist go after John about trump hard. To bad they did not do that to trump when they were interviewing him. How are blaming him since they are real journalist that helped cause this mess.
exactly! as if they try to lay some sort of blame on him when they are the ''real'' media hacks who will grab at scraps , sigh :-/
Exactly! Who do these knobheads think they are?
His responses are gold. I only watched the emmys to see john win, and i got what i wanted
beyonce should just hit Jon up and be like "you are invited to my house for 1 hour to sit 10 feet behind me quietly and stare at my head while I watch netflix" that would be hilarious.
Ffs at the first couple of reporters! Why on earth would John be personally responsible for the Drumpf??
Right? What the heck was their problem?
For the same reason Nickelback are still going - the more people talk about how much they hate something, the more it's talked about and more attention is drawn to it.
That's the concept, anyway.
John Oliver was the only one who avoided doing any stories about him until it was clear he was the front runner for the Republican nomination. They had to agree that Trump was here to stay until at least the end of the elections in November and start actually reporting on his activities. Everyone else was on him since day one.
I'm a brit living in the UK and I am proud of John Oliver! His show is awesome, but we can only get it on CZcams :(
It is on in the uk
You can get it on Sky, Sky Atlantic channel I believe.
You should be proud of Mr. Oliver! He is great! Thank UK for all the talent exported.
4:17 "Back in the days of the empire it was 100" hahahaha i actually laughed out loud
Do none of these people think he's absolutely hilarious?!?! I was dying the whole time
the mice didn't pick up the laughter.
John Oliver's response to that Australian was classic. JO is the best. ♡
Not bad for a badly sewn together Muppet made of USDA rejected chicken parts! Kudos, John!
I am not sure if your trying to make a joke or insult him or both. Whichever it is your comment made me laugh.
Redpanda 789 **wink**
Is that a quote from the show? If not, you should send that in...they'd probably use that!
s10dlka I'm told they're well aware of me.. not sure that's a good thing! (I should add that they're not remotely impressed)
You're...."told." Voice in the head, I presume.
Loved his character on Community.
he's so funny and the show is tremendous. i love that he just doesn't give a fuck about shaming somebody for their douchey questions
did he do a curtsy in the end?
You bet your ass he did. One of the classiest men out there.
damn
John's not wrong about being known here in the UK, but many Liverpool fans do know of him!! He's awesome.
Well I mean I remember him from Mock The Week. It's not like he wasn't on TV at all
Yeah, I was going to say the same.
Pretty well known amongst millennials here in New Zealand too.
Thank god Ricky Gervais recommend him!!
What's with the Liverpool fans knowing of him? I assume he supports Liverpool or something. I mean I'm from Liverpool but I've never heard any random fans mention him
John, British Mock The Week fans will forever love you.
John is awesome - witty, funny, and delivers both news and comedy in the same breath - difficult on the best of days
Secular Talk comes in at a close second, honestly.
He's so likable. One of the funniest people on earth ever too. I laughed so hard only from this interview!
god that was painful.... thanks a lot Phil...
That was painfully humourus. Loved it.
Congratulations to John, well done..What dreadful press there, and aweful audio.......
I know I'M full of awe.
from listening to the audio? which was aweful. Yea I'd say so
I think his point was it's spelled awful, not aweful :p
I love how the post is now edited, but still wrongly spelled haha
Such a confident man, his responses were on point 👌🏻
Did he fucking curtsy at the end
Goddamn right he did!
+Liz Trainer ^^this! :)
C.H. F Huh?
Liz Trainer your response! it made me smile :)
C.H. F Oh, thank you.
This should be rated R. This is 6 minutes and 40 seconds of graphic video of John Oliver raping the entire press.
Soooo glad he won!!! He's fantastic and so is his show :)
John Oliver is a god, the God I will now worship.
our lord of Perpetual Exemption
Praise be.
PRAISE BE
Thank you random woman asking how it felt to win.
I'm dying XD John you're the real mvp
John Oliver, congratulations on your awards!! Love your show! I really think it's a case of the students being able to surpass the master. Well, not really surpass it but definitely at the same level as John stewart but with your own identity.
(It's just a shame how this press conference started)
DID HE FUCKING CURTSY? he's so awkward in the best way, briliant
Such a brilliant man! He handled that so classy and eloquent, especially some of those disrespectful vultures!
What the hell is this? Why are they asking him about Trump at the Emmys? But damn he crushed everyone in that room.
John 'roast everyone with every sentence' Oliver
John Oliver - funny even when faced with a tough crowd. What a legend!
God, every time I watch a video of Oliver I realize more and more of just how quick witted he genuinely is. He doesn't have to be on his show, he could just be anywhere and can still be funny and intelligent.
I didn't know he won an Emmy but I'm happy he has. He's my favourite comedic host of all the greats which include Bill Maher and Steven Colbert.
yeah
I should have added Jon Stewart.
freaking love this dude
John handled the interview like a boss 😎
Congrats john, You deserve it and even this interrogaton was hilarious
I love John Oliver!! he is so funny!!
Your show sheds light on many many important topics, Puerto Rico being one. We all truly appreciated the informed attention you paid our little island.
...he just never stops. I love it.
Congratulation John...!!! I am really happy you won. I am huge fan. I watch your show every day it is great... keep your good work.
One for the Buglers out there...
Just in case he reads this, Fuck you Chris :)
Audio newspaper in a visual world!
Tony Gray Johnny Hollywood taking on the journalists with aplomb!
his show is amazing with the research they do and his amazing humor .
A disappointing number of reporters in this video were complete jerks. Unfortunately, John was too smart for them. Smh
i feel so bad for john oliver. this was a room full of garbage people. except for the person who congratulated him.
well done john
i'm English and always watch your show it's great.
John doesn't get a vote, but he does have more of a voice and more political influence than millions of voters in america. Poor John.
#GoGetThoseGeckos
John proves you can be politicly incorrect, but also seem like a nice funny guy at the same time.
Vulgarity isn't politically incorrect.
Ok then let me rephrase: You can be unconcervative/unformal and still come across as a nice funny guy.
that makes even less sense.
John is politically incorrect?
@ Michael @ incarnedine Bluntness is often seen as rude and/or inconsiderate, at least here in the US.
I really like how he smacked back the Aussie kangourou racist
Self-awareness and irony not big where you're from?
i loled
I'm still laughing at the Salmon Cannon. Very humble of Mr Oliver to think no one's heard of him in the UK, but he's wrong on that one! Lots of us are watching LWT on a regular basis. Kudos to the writing team, clearly evident that allot of hard work, sometimes over many months, goes into each show. Congrats to all involved.
no one is gonna make a "phil brought me here" comment?
guess i will
Phil brought me here. Now off to www.streamys.org/vote/#votingframe to get carpal tunnel after voting for him 100 times.
That's actually already one of the top comments.
The bugle podcast as well, him and Andy Zaltzman are very good on that.
The Bugle should not be underrated. That show is the shit.
WAS the shit :(
Love this man, Love that hes finally got the recognition he deserves.
I love that curtsy at the end, so awkward yet on point..
Dude is witty as.
You can tell John is just a funny guy. Not just a dude reading off a script...*cough* Jimmy Kimmel *cough*
I don't know who wrote the captions but thank you so much. I couldn't understand a single question.
Edit: nevermind, it's automatic. Interesting translations.
He answered them all brilliantly.
"Savage" comes to mind...but does not do this GOD any justice.
Philip Defranco Show brought me here!
Just such a class act, and our world class comedian. He's humble and honest. I am a huge fan of last week tonight John and the entire crew do an unbelievable job week after week.
Just bloody accept that you are a journalist, John. You're doing the job, and you do it exceptionally well!
John Oliver was my choice to take over the Daily Show, but they never listen to me.
I honestly think he is better at HBO with his own format--half of what makes LWT as good as it is is that he's not constrained at all, outside of time and budget.
He was their choice too. He turned them down.
He would have been a great permanent host of The Daily Show, but he's even better on Last Week Tonight. No regrets.
I loooove John Oliver.
John has had never ending awesome things to comment on nearly four years
John Oliver, you are incredible. Your show tackles real social issues in America with outstanding presentation. Please do not give up your work. Since John Stewart has retired, you're one of the very few rational and legitimate voices left on television.
This is what happens when you put a very smart and media-savvy bloke in front of two hundred clickbaitroids and a couple of journalists.
