Cheydinal, in the UK we sadly don’t have any American celebs of note (apart from Rich Hall. He’s quite a funny comedian). :( Although we do have a couple of Canadian ones! Like Katherine Ryan.

'liberal' can mean several quite different things. for some examples: the followers of libreralism or people with a high degree of tolerance of others... or just anyone left of regan.
liberalism *was* progressive in the 17th century, but is now quite old-fashioned. ofc liberals are still often progressive compared to conservatives, but they are pretty backward by comparison to some other groups.

I wouldn’t say that John is “so serious” on American TV. He’s still goofy, irreverent and hilarious. He just wears a suit and sits behind a desk.
Didn’t know they were friends, this was very nice. Flipping off your pal after they do something genuinely thoughtful is extremely relatable. 😊

John Oliver is always such a good guest, I like him being interviewed even more than when he's the host, because when he's the guest he's less scripted and more mischievous.
I love him in both settings but he really does shine as a guest!
I dunno about "more" mischievous. its just smoother, more subtle when hes the host. plus that felt obligation he mentioned, to give it message and purpose.
He was more laid back in the Daily show.. LWT is not a strictly satirical show, more of a funny opinion show, which is why he is more serious..

Hey John - don't feel sad about the interview with Hoffman - the fact that you had the stones to ask the tough questions was hugely constructive and you are an amazing and a fine example of what it means to stand up and speak up instead of being a complicit bystander! Props to you bud!
It's good that he warned the organisers in advance and that they agreed to it.
Not sure of Hoffman knew, but if he hadn't thought out his answers ahead of time to questions he is bound to get asked then he's a fool.

I don't know if there is more than the clip I have saw, it's a 'blink and you miss him' but he looks very different; long hair, Lennon glasses and a khaki jacket.

J H - I remember some of his early appearances on Mock the Week, he never wore suits then so it was odd when the next I saw him was on the Daily Show with John Stewart, where it was unusual to not see anyone in a suit.

John Stewart fans, knowing some of Oliver's current approach came from there, might disagree.
Also, as I've heard SO many Brits, including Oliver himself, say, Americans have a distorted view of English comedy. We generally only see their good comedy, not their enormous amount of bad comedy. If we did we'd have a less overly idealized view.
