  • I Used a SS Wok Ladle For A Hand Scooper For Sand Fleas!
This might be the very first time this was been tried. Guess what? It worked! I could've used my bulky large aluminum sand flea rakes. But i wanted to walk the shorelines jigging along the way. Effortlessly. Or i could purchase a sand shifter for sand fleas online. But the thought of spending +$30 for a plastic or +$40 for a small tinny cup made me "wince". Ouch! Not including shipping. And the materials wouldn't last long as well.
Since i've always thought around the box my whole life i've envisioned using a SS cross wired design scooper that was light, strong & durable. Being asian myself it literally dawned on me. Those SS ladle scoopers used by chinese kitchens for Wok style cooking. Lucky for me i reside in a State that has a high asian population. The first place i went to had them. Don Quijote in Waipahu (used to be Daiei Holiday Mart).
I've used this all weekend. Nothing got bent or damaged. And I've must've pulled in almost 90 keepers and gave away a few dozen as well. A few anglers were watching me & taking videos of what i was doing. I gave away enough live sand fleas/crabs to make everyone very happy. On my way back up the beach one of those anglers flagged me down because he wanted to take a pic with me & his 8/9lb O'io Bonefish he caught on the fresh Sand Fleas i gave him.
This is what i do. Educate. Think outside the box. Share knowledge. I've done this my whole life. I'm glad this worked out so well.

me and my dad used to go fishing in Ewa beach by the shooting range and that was my job, i would use a sandspike , tie up some bait and they would come up to the surface and try to drag the bait down, back then the hand nets were a little better made and i would just scoop them up pretty easy. after about 1 scoops i was done, was so simple back then, that's when moi and oio used to be abundant in that area and my mom would be collecting ogo in front of the pavilion area, never did appreciate those days, but once you get old, you really understand how fishing was a good way to relax and spend time with the family

Thanks! I catch more fleas using this simple kitchen utensil than those using rakes. Less effort. Less money. More fleas.

Thanks buddy:) I love this, easiest way i found to combine shore jigging with bait collecting that weighs next to nothing & doesn't interfere with my jigging as i did both.

Howzit Scuba Chris..Thanks so much for your fishing tips. This hack is genius( I love how you said you thought of it because you are so cheap lol). I ordered a 3 pack with various sizes stainless steel off of amazon and works like a charm. I hate that i always end up tearing my scoop nets at the seams scooping a huge pile of sand everytime and sifting it. Way easier and I was surprised at how rigid the wok strainer was when scooping the sand. Btw I gave you a shoutout on my latest fish cam dunking vid for your ika bait hookup tip.--oh and the very first vid I posted shows fish cam footage of a bunch of baitstealers nabbing my sand turtle off the hook--Any tips on how to prevent that? Mahalo for the vids!

Thanks a lot! On the bait steeler not much we can do about that. Maybe use some fine meshing, like panty hose to make a "bait sack" with & put the hook through the knot? Might need to change spots. Reefy areas tend to have more little bait stealers around. Try deeper sandy spots in deeper water away from reef structures. Or if you like the shallows use a float rig instead.

I cannot hear you in the video very well, but I can manage to make out pretty much everything except what you are using for bait. it looks like a piece of squid, or something, and it sounds like you are calling it a POOCHIE, or something like that...anyway, do you mind please typing what you were using as bait?

The fleas were gauging them-selfs on portuguese man-of-war jellyfish. But typically i use a piece of squid on a line and toss it onto the high tide line to look for flea trails.

I don't. On the receding swell i can see them re-burying themselfs.
