I’ll never forget this guy being the butt of my greatest joke of all time. I was watching the movie with my girlfriend who was half watching it and when Orm was on screen one time she said “Wait is that Black Manta” and the stars aligned because without skipping a beat I said “does that look like a black man-ta you?”

I think Black Manta is one of the few things that the DCEU got right. I love him in the comics because the guy is EVIL and I liked the pretty accurate suit.
One thing the Aquaman movies did so well for sure are the suits. Aquaman, Manta, Orm; all their suits are so beautiful. S-Tier.

Black Manta is such a great villain. I absolutely would want to see him back in James Gunn's DCU. I'm just kind of grateful that the swan song at the DCEU will have him back before it's all over.

@@ulfgardulfson3037 It hasn't come out yet and we don't know if its bad. I don't have high expectations or demands on any movies. Aquaman 1, before it came out didn't get good reviews. Although not a masterpiece, I enjoyed it like many others did. As I said, if I escape reality for a couple of hours and the CGI blows me away, I'm good!

In the 70's Aquaman stories, drawn by Jim Aparo, Aquaman caught Manta after he murdered his son, and was about to kill him, when Manta started begging for mercy. Because Aquaman is a hero he spared his life.

I like Black Manta. I am so finally glad you have done a history of Black Manta video that I have been waiting for a year. I like him in the DCEU, Tv shows like Young Justice, and in video games like Injustice 2. I can't wait to see him return in Aquaman : The Lost Kingdom.

what if instead of the baby dying like in comics what if they killed off Mera instead?
If the rumors were true about reshoots and cutting of some parts of Heard it would make total sense

I say no Where he grown up from is a very important thing, Born from Arkham and Choose to be an Aquaman Foe is a great flow of Black Manta life changing and U can put very much imaginative story in order to bind the bridge between Arkham villains and the fall-side of Atlantic. Making your villain more stronger is not a fault, the new origin binds to Pirate-like, middle-age religion and families conflict--the star war story rewritten, and only foe to Arthur Curry to much! If you say Heroes defeat Villain Trillions of time how can you made people wanna see Superhero movie?

I like the 90’s and the new 52 origin stories the best. Became a fan watching him over time in different DC shows, hope they bring him back in the DCU. But my thing about the DCEU ending is, it’s killing any potential hype going into Aquaman 2 because we don’t know if any of these characters will be in the DCU. Still going to watch Aquaman 2.

Black Manta straight up killed Aquaman's infant son in the comics.
The new movie shows us Aquaman has an infant son and Black Manta is the antagonist.

Question....am I crazy or was there a point where Black Manta's mental illness was if not cured then at least put under some kind of control, where he and Aquaman ended up working together and he even apologized to Aquaman for killing his son? Did that actually happen, or did I dream it?
I kind of hope they pull from the justice league episode where aquaman has to cut his hand off to free himself from shackles to save his son and gets his hook hand

I hope Aquaman 2 is at least good as the first. Sucks so many great actors and potential storylines were wasted, but I’m ready for this chapter of the DC franchise to end. Glad so many people are f/w Black Manta. Aquaman & his world have come along way

Seeing as the movie still contains Amber Heard, you do have a portion of people that will boycott the movie because her actions that ruined Johnny Depp's career. Then you have the issue of James Gunn's announcement of rebooting the films pissed off a large portion of people. They believe these films do not matter and rightfully so, so there is no point in wasting money going to the theaters to support these films, they will eventually get dumped on to Max and Netflix.
The only question that remains is how bad will this film do by comparison of the other DC films that were released post the announcement of the reboot of the DCEU.
Didn't he have origin story in the Teen Titans animated series where he was a king or prince from Africa. And he had a son where Aquaman took him away and became a part of his family.
So Aquaman just constantly lose to Blackmanta. I can already see where this is going.
