- Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky has addressed a joint session of the UK Parliament shortly after making a surprise trip to the UK.
Hundreds of MPs and peers packed into Westminster Hall to hear him speak - he received a long and rapturous applause as he arrived.
It is Zelensky's first visit since Russia invaded his country last year and his second international trip since the war began.

I've always been struck how the media both here and in the states never covers Ukrainian losses while it magnifies every single reported loss by the Russians. The tax payers have never been told how many Ukrainian soldiers have died and how much of the equipment we have sent so far is still in one piece. So what happens just months away? The EU and UK are in economic decline over the loss of 40% need metals and chemicals only found in Russia are now sanctioned. Ukraine has lost the work force and infrastructure that will take decades to rebuild after all the deaths and disruption of world trade. The money will stop flowing as there just won't be any as tax revenues plummet as the UK and EU economies tank out. All this will be for nothing accept enriching a small few.

Very good speech but went a bit weird at the end about international order etc. Please remember, this is not Russia's fault, it is one man and a cohort of followers who are responsible. We shouldn't escalate the war, simply match opposition force until they are ready to negotiate
I disagree. Matching force will prolong the war which will result in more casualties on both sides, plus negotiating will result in Ukraine losing some territory to Russia. Both bad outcomes. We should help Ukraine to soundly defeat Russia quickly. That will minimise casualties and allow Ukraine to keep their territory, plus (as Zelensky said in his speech) send a message to future aggressors that war to steal territory will not be tolerated.
It is this 'we shouldn't escalate the war' idea that plays into Russia's hands. Why do you think Russia always threatens nukes? To get your response.
@@Mark_Bridges I understand your point, but trying to defeat Putin, a monumental task, will undoubtedly lead to more casualties and also risks the war spreading to other countries e.g. Belarus. Russia are not going to humbly accept defeat. It's such a delicate situation, as if the west pushes Russia too much, they will respond more radically. The scariest thing is knowing Russia's last resort is nuclear weapons and if they begin to lose the war they may well get closer to, 'last resorts'.

I suspect defeating Russia isn't quite the monumental task you think it is given the problems with Russia's military, although of course not a trivial task either. I reckon Ukraine has got this, admittedly at a large cost, but they've chosen to do it as the best of available options. Call me optimistic but I doubt we'll get to see the effects of a nuke. It's easy to be optimistic from a distance but Ukraine is optimistic too and their information is better than mine.

To think anyone is thick enough to engage in nuclear warfare is very hard to believe. There are absolutely no benefits. In terms of Ukraine versus Russia's military, you could be right, although its hard to believe any news outlets have actually obtained much accurate information regarding Russia's Army. But from the frequency of "Pro-Ukrainian"/ "Pro-Russia" combat footage video uploads, it seems things are definitely getting costlier for both sides.
