    We never see Brightroar in the show, and all we know of it in the books is that it was lost by a Lannister king in Valyria, but this is what will come to mind when I hear Brightroar from now on. That's just excellent work.

    Superb build. Obviously this is not Jaime's sword but this is what I would image Brightroar to have looked like. Brightroar was ancestral Valyrian sword of house Lannister but was lost when king Tommen II Lannister went to ruins of Valyria and never returned. Tywin Lannister wanted his whole life for Lannisters to have again Valyrian steel sword so he made two from the Starks ancestral sword Ice.

    You are an amazing artist! I've been watching your videos for years. I have so many questions but the most prominent is your sand. Where can I find the powder you use to coat your molds? I'm a hobbyist inspired by you and I'd love to try my hand at casting. I've got waxes carved and spent a year and a half researching and building a proper foundry. I've got to make a crucible holder and tongs to get it out of the foundry but I'm close. It's been something I've literally spent years researching and working on. It would be huge if you could help me out with this question. Thank you and keep up the amazing work! You inspire!

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 6 lety

      Thanks. I get all my ceramic mold materials from Remet. There is a huge variety of binders and refractory sands available depending on your requirements. There was a guy I knew back in Florida who sold pre-assembled kits with the various components you would need in smaller quantities. His name is Sean Colson, I worked with his father for a bit, years ago, doing casting. He sold the kits through a website which I think was called Shellspen. If he's still doing that, that would probably be the easiest way to get started. Good luck!

    I know that the casting method you use clearly works for you but, I thought I would at least mention another method I've seen that uses a mixture that breaks up in water. Like after the bronze has cooled enough you dunk the casting into a bucket and the coating breaks up? Specifically I've seen "Man at Arms" us it on the "AWE me" channel, for reference.
    If it is something you can use, then I'm sure it would save a lot of your time.

    • @Briguy1027
      @Briguy1027 Před 6 lety

      Yeah, when I used to cast stuff, although it was gold mostly, we doused the investment in water and that stuff exploded out making it much easier to clean off. In fact we didn't even wait for it to cool at all, we removed the mold right off the casting ring and ran it to the water for the big explosion. Of course our casting were much smaller, so nothing catastrophic ever happened at that point.

    • @brotherbanzai
      @brotherbanzai  Před 6 lety

      That would be solid investment casting. Good for small pieces but the size of what you are casting is limited by the size of your flask. I do some larger pieces as well as still doing some actual sculpture for which that method would be a lot of trouble.
