Despite knowing how to change my oil it so handy to have the little tips in this video. How brave are you putting in oil that has been opened by someone unknown.
Changed my oil, oil filter, and final drive oil this weekend. I know that most experienced users do this themselves, but it was because of your vids that I was able to do so without the hesitation involved. Keep up these How To videos. I really benefit from them. Thx Bryan!
Shawn Kuse Cool man, that's the point! Spend less, ride more :)
Shawn Kuse thank you for taking the time to do these videos. 👍
Word!
It's an old video, I know...As the new owner of an FJR, I came across this video and found it very helpful. There was ONE thing in the video that had me yelling "noooooo!!!!' at my TV.
As soon as the larger bottle of oil was opened, it should have been returned to the retailer. Sure, some jerk bought the bottle, helped themselves to some, then returned it - basically getting a free top-up. BUT...
Although it was confirmed this was not simply old oil that was returned to the store, there was no way of knowing that the oil was not contaminated by something else. If I had come across this scenario, I would prefer to take the time to go to the retailer to get a new bottle, rather than risk malicious contamination that could destroy my engine.
But besides that, thanks heaps for this. I am not mechanically minded, but it showed just how easy an oil change was do to on my 2017 machine.
Quick thank you. I changed the oil and filter today on my 2015 FJR and all went well, thanks almost entirely to your videos. I also installed a GPS which I could not have done without your video on putting on a battery tender pig tail, as I could not for the life of me figure out how to remove the fasteners which needed a small Allen wrench to pop out. The Yamaha service manual has no instructions on how to get to the battery. Anyway, many thanks for your efforts as they are much appreciated.
Thank You for a great Vid, I just bought my ‘12 FJR FROM 189 miles away, and the owner told me it need an engine and shaft drive oil change he did three years ago, the FJR brought me back with no problems; and watching your vid it looks easy….
Quick tip - Put on 2 or 3 pairs of those disposable gloves in the beginning, that way if one rips or gets dirty and needs to come off, you can simply slide it off and you've got a new one already in place.
Thanks for the time you give making these videos, Much appreciated!
Awesome, great tips on the foil, warming up the oil, lubricating the seal… i’m sure I missed something else, I’m gonna watch it again. Great info.
Doing my very first Rotella oil change on my 2013 tonight. Thanks for the videos. I’ve become a pretty good mechanic on my bike.
thanks for the effort and the sharing of your obvious fjr1300 experience. thumbs up.
As per the manual, 4.23 qts with filter change. As stated, always check your level as you go along, but 5 quarts would be way too much on my 2016 FJR.
Gran vídeo, yo tengo una FJR 1300 desde hace poco tiempo y estoy aprendiendo mucho con ellos. Gracias !
really appreciate these videos. Just found an '11 and bought it. Thank you again sir.
I struggled with removing the original oil filter but other than that, your instructions were spot on sir. Thank you for a great instructional video 👍🏻🍻
This is actually the best made video ever. I was all into it. With the small details that you pay attention to. I love it. It was very very helpful. I just bought my first FJR and I will do oil change myself. Please let us know if you have videos on complete maintenance and tuning. 👍
I generally fill the new oil filter about 3/4 before I even screw it on... I've also found that the when this bike is on the centerstand you really don't get an accurate reading (because its tipped forward). I jack the front end up about 2-3" and it makes the bike perfectly level for a more accurate reading.
Great video as always. My Manuel for my 2014 for says 31lb for oil drain bolt so that's what I do. Thanks!
I'm thinking about selling my '13 VMAX and getting an FJR, thanks for the video!
Good video! Any comments on getting around the canyon cages from MCE?
Thanks for the great video . By the way, if you put a little bit of baby powder on your hands, those gloves slide on very easily.
I also use Rotella T6 in my FJR as well as my old Hondas. Their gallon jugs do not have a foil seal like other brands.
The jack arse you're looking for is at the Rotella plant. ;-)
I need this answered super quick please so my clutch went out and I’m changing and replacing everything what oil did you use in this video
A K&N filter should be your first choice for filters ... and removal is a snap. Good video
agreed, K&N has the bolt head and you can eliminate that silly oem filter cup remover.
Robt Bomba I just used a K&N Wrench-off oil filter, part number KN-204 if you need it. Black.
wath do you think about lucas semisyntetic oli, is recomended? in engine and final gear??
Hi Brain great video , what oil are using 20 w 40 or something else thanks o appreciate
Awesome video man!!! I wish you were my neighbor.
Hello Bryan, thanks for your instructionvideo about oil change for yamaha fjr 1300 2013 and above. I just have changed my oil(4 liter). oil filter and fill it up to the level between the two dots like you have shown in your video. Everything went well. I started a few times to let the oil fill the spaces in the engine and oil filter, level was a little under middel level, top it off again between the two dots. When I start de engine and put him in gear and let the clutch out, the oil level in the looking glass drops to below the first dot, when I turn the engine off, the oil comes back between the two dots. All of this when the engine is still on the center stand. 🙈Is this normal? when your driving, you don't look at the looking glass, so this is a surprise to me. 😊
Hi. I was changing my oil with your video. However, i accidently put the oil up to the top mark or barely over the top mark. Should i drain some out?
More interesting than the oil price is : What kind of oil, like 20 W 40 did you use?
Hello twowheels
about the oil are you using t6 15-40 or 20-50 for diesel trucks?
Great video. Thank you!
Thanks for the video. I looked it up in my paperwork and the last time I had the oil changed, the dealer did it and charged me $117!! Of course, they supposedly checked out the whole bike. I’m looking forward to saving money on this process. What other things would I need to check on the bike when changing the oil and filter?
Hi Bryan. Just a question. I have an 05 FJR1300. I live in san diego, CA. If I wanted to try the Rotella T6, what viscosity would you recommend? I see some at Walmart, but they only have 5W-40. The yamalube I've been using is 10-50. Thanks in advance!
hi, i am looking for a tutorial to change the oil pump chain on my yamaha fjr 1300 mod 07, a noise is heard and it may be the oil pump chain but i can't find a tutorial to locate and change it, thanks
did they change the T5 oil? I've used T5 before but don't recall it saying "Its marketed towards diesels"
Thanks gain for the info! Just some notes about oil & filter I use if anyone needs it: Yamalube Performance All Purpose Four Stroke SAE 20W-50 (summer oil change) Yamaha Part number : LUB-20W50-AP-04. And used a K&N Performance Black Wrench-Off filer, part number KN-204.
Good video - I think I'm not going with the Rotella T6 only because the manual says 15w-40 or 20w-40/50 for temps that I ride in 50F+. From what I've read changing good brand oil more often trumps longer use of expensive synthetic oils. Is your 2014 filter # 5GH-13440-60-00 ?
Hello, Thanks for a great Video-- I have a couple of ?? My Serv Manual (12 FJR) Says 20w40 or 20w50
What kind do you use?-- is it Synthetic? My dealer wanted to give me 10w40 (mineral)saying it was the new 20w40? I kind of wanted to use Semi Synth or full with 5000 mls
What do you think
Well done ...... again!!!!!! Thanks
Love my FJR since I bought it in 2006. No problems until now. Can you do a how-to-video to run down starting problems? I think the starter need replacement. Can you help? Many thanks if you can.
Don't you have to let the oil settle i.e. drain down for a couple of minutes to get an accurate level on the sight glass?
Sorry if this is redundant, but what’s the total amount of oil roughy 4.5 quarts? Thanks
Do you use the Rotella T6 5W-40
Or the 15W-40 ?
Doing my 600 mile tomorrow. Are the crushwashers for the drive shaft the same size as the one for the oil.
KrazyDan Yes they are.
hey you do great videos
Good stuff!
Love the how to videos.
kelly j Thank you!
Great video, would you share where you got that cool adjustable oil filter adapter for removal?
stogierogy Walmart
TwoWheelObsession Same one here? www.autozone.com/1/products/521193-2-1-2-3-1-8-import-oil-filter-wrench-oem-oem25128.html
My preference in motorcycle oil Caltex delo400 15w40 used it in my last three bikes reduses cam rattle keeps the insides spotless
All my life I have hand tightened the oil filter, most filters say 3/4 to 1 turn after the gasket contacts the engine surface. The Yamaha manual gives the filter tightening torque of 17Nm or 12flb. I tried that on the first oil change but never got to that value, just didn't seem right.
Fantastic! Thanks.
TwoWheelObsession: can you tell me again what type of Rotella T6 oil are you using for Ex. the one you used on the video to change your oil, due to the fact that there are quite a few types of Rotella makes and I want to use the same one you are using in your video, thanks.
blue container T6 5/40 full synth
Does the flat side of the crush washer go against the drain plug or the oil pan?
flat side towards the pan
Just curious... what is the “vent/drain” (22:18) from the tank you mentioned?? I noticed that tubing on my FJR there. And also tubing near the rear shock that drains towards the ground. Sometimes liquid seems to leak out of the tubes - especially the rear one. Any idea why?
Fuel tank vents. If you overfill on a hot day you will see it leak.
Thank you
Hi Bryan. Any difference between draining the oil on the side stand vs. the center stand? How much extra oil do you get out if it's drained via the side stand?
scotw67 You get less out on the sidestand, it would pool a little bit in the corner. The correct way is as I showed and the manual states - center. You also need to check the level with the bike level.
disagree, I got another 8 or so ounces OUT after dripping on centerstand then put on sidestand even tipping bike over more so to the left leaning bike over. Why not get MORE oil out if old is better than leaving more old oil in the bike
Is that T6 oil designated at "Diesel" That's all I can find for it specifically. Assuming at the correct weight (10W-40) it's fine?
yep
@@TwoWheelObsession you used 5W-40. I have seen 10W30 recommended and the above person asked about 10W40. Respectfully, which is it? I just purchased my first FJR1300 - 2008. It's in near perfect condition and I am wanting it to remain that way. Thanks for the videos. Been watching for a long time while waiting on the right bike to come along.
You really should give the bike a minute to let the oil settle before checking it per the manual. f you check it immediately after shutting the bike off then you have a lot of oil trapped in the top of the motor that’s dripping down. You’ll be surprised how much it raises up after only 45 seconds
Is it safe to use Yamalube 20W-50 in my 2008 FJR1300? The owners manual recommends 20W-40. Thank you
+E.S. Slc the manual gives a range, depending on your conditions. Look at the chart.
There is no actual chart in this 2008 manual. It says: Yamalube 4 (20W-40) or SAE 20W-40.
Sorry, I didn't know the older manuals didn't have the chart. Here's a later edition, see page 9-1 dd5394a0b8ca8e97ba29-abf76f3d91a2125517d6c7c409f095c7.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/content/common/manuals/2016/LIT-11626-29-61R1_59527eeb2a0ab6716ccc4879.pdf
Maybe someone knows: how to delete the oil inspection (daschcam timer) - yamaha FJR 2016
What type of Rotella are you using? Thanks #TwoWheelObsession.
T6 full synth 5/40 - blue container
Hello. Share repaired as pārnesumkārbu.Ļoti loud sounds from her.
What weight oil do you use? It looks like you are using 5w40. Is this correct?
yipp..5/40 full synth
What's the difference between the first lagerer oil tank and the second smaller one?Greets, a new JFR owner :)
I don't know what you are asking.
what size crush washer?
It's a std size at the auto store
+TwoWheelObsession Compress air need to score.
My yamaha FJR manual says specifically, do not use a synthetic oil in this motorcycle. it is an 09. is the oil you use synthetic ? is it a car oil ?
+ROB NAVAEI You misread
AS long as it has the "JASO MA" specification on the oil it will work fine in a FJR1300, fully syn or not, the MA is what you are looking for on the oil jug.
Where do you dispose of the old oil?
any auto zone o'reilleys etc...
10/30 oil?
Straight from engineer at Castrol. Oil has no real shelf life. Will last for many years on a shelf.
I'm a professional firefighter/medic. And yes the Gloves makes the hands so sweaty.
kelly j Oh man you must deal with that constantly then :(
Rotella T6 used to be JASO MA and JASO MA2 Standard, but viewing the product label on Amazon, it appears that they have dropped the ratings. Some posters have said that they changed the formula.
Never pour any oils or coolants into a vehicle if the containers were purchased without seals intact. There could be any other liquids or contaminants in the container you are using. E.g. old flushing oils, paintstrippers, ball bearings, glass, grit etc.
is that oil a car oil ?
Nitrile is top of the line. you will sweat no matter what even the ppowder i wear them for medicals. good video
I'm torn between doing these services myself and continuing the full service book at the dealership. Bike I bought had only one owner and has a superb history book. I don't want to destroy that history but I don't want to pay hundreds for a simple oil change either. Meh.
Out of my 40 years of mechanicing Ive never seen a beam style torque wrench get out of calibration. click and gauge style yes beam no
dgc940 They go out when they get bent. I've seen plenty that don't rest at zero anymore. It comes down to proper use and storage though.
I would have returned that open gallon of oil back to the store, never know what may have been put in it, just my thought.
It’s not correct about the oil filter. I can take mine off by hand.
I find all of the ROTELLA oil says DIESEL,.... that's OK???
good to go....Rotella is the lube for all/any bike
