It's an old video, I know...As the new owner of an FJR, I came across this video and found it very helpful. There was ONE thing in the video that had me yelling "noooooo!!!!' at my TV.
As soon as the larger bottle of oil was opened, it should have been returned to the retailer. Sure, some jerk bought the bottle, helped themselves to some, then returned it - basically getting a free top-up. BUT...
Although it was confirmed this was not simply old oil that was returned to the store, there was no way of knowing that the oil was not contaminated by something else. If I had come across this scenario, I would prefer to take the time to go to the retailer to get a new bottle, rather than risk malicious contamination that could destroy my engine.
But besides that, thanks heaps for this. I am not mechanically minded, but it showed just how easy an oil change was do to on my 2017 machine.

Quick thank you. I changed the oil and filter today on my 2015 FJR and all went well, thanks almost entirely to your videos. I also installed a GPS which I could not have done without your video on putting on a battery tender pig tail, as I could not for the life of me figure out how to remove the fasteners which needed a small Allen wrench to pop out. The Yamaha service manual has no instructions on how to get to the battery. Anyway, many thanks for your efforts as they are much appreciated.

Quick tip - Put on 2 or 3 pairs of those disposable gloves in the beginning, that way if one rips or gets dirty and needs to come off, you can simply slide it off and you've got a new one already in place.

I generally fill the new oil filter about 3/4 before I even screw it on... I've also found that the when this bike is on the centerstand you really don't get an accurate reading (because its tipped forward). I jack the front end up about 2-3" and it makes the bike perfectly level for a more accurate reading.

Hello Bryan, thanks for your instructionvideo about oil change for yamaha fjr 1300 2013 and above. I just have changed my oil(4 liter). oil filter and fill it up to the level between the two dots like you have shown in your video. Everything went well. I started a few times to let the oil fill the spaces in the engine and oil filter, level was a little under middel level, top it off again between the two dots. When I start de engine and put him in gear and let the clutch out, the oil level in the looking glass drops to below the first dot, when I turn the engine off, the oil comes back between the two dots. All of this when the engine is still on the center stand. 🙈Is this normal? when your driving, you don't look at the looking glass, so this is a surprise to me. 😊

You really should give the bike a minute to let the oil settle before checking it per the manual. f you check it immediately after shutting the bike off then you have a lot of oil trapped in the top of the motor that’s dripping down. You’ll be surprised how much it raises up after only 45 seconds
