Well I'm in Australia but having a couple of FJR , I have over 40 plus years found sheepskin seat cover work fantastic . Ive ridden 17 hour days no problem . There is ONE most important thing that any distance rider should do ... every 1/2 hour or so when its safe to do so , Stand up and get your butt OFF the seat for maybe a minute . This helps blood flow and changes what muscles are being used . Simple and it works , try it on your next 2 hour plus ride .
I agree with your final comments - respect for individual opinions. Another great video, thanks.
I absolutely agree with you about feeling more connected to the bike. I own a 2002 Honda CBR 954RR. The factory seat is little more than a plank with minimal padding covered with vinyl. I ordered a Sargent seat specifically made for the 954. More padding equals more comfort. Now I really can enjoy the performance of the bike and stay in the saddle for much longer rides. Congrats on the addition/upgrade.
Great video. I own the same bike (In black, north of the border) and have similar time limit before I find myself wishing for a stop light to stand up for a minute or so.
I found your video while searching for non-biased review of the Laam seat. I like the no-nonsense approach in all your videos. They are helpful: thanks for taking the time and for sharing with the community.
Benoit Chauvette Thanks for watching!
Great vid Bryan! I came off of a sport bike and their seats are just plain uncomfortable. Even with a Sergeants seat it was still bad.
With the stock FJR seat it was sooo much better!
Maybe an upgrade next year. At least, with your vid, I get a good first hand view and opinion of the Lamm seat.
Thanks Bryan, I've just sent an FB message to Seth to see if he will ship to the UK, awesome review, tnks.
Now all you need is a Utopia backrest. Had one made for my 2017 Triumph Trophy and love it. Quick disconnect option is the way to go for a pillion rider!
Just wanted to say thank you for all of the great videos. I have the same year and model FJR 1300, and I really get a lot out of your videos. Your camera work is excellent, the advice you give is sound, and you're a really nice guy. Thank you very much!
One thing... I tried to send you a few bucks this morning via the "Support TwoWheel Obsession" function on CZcams, but after choosing $5, putting in a comment and my CC info and clicking "submit", I got an error. I'm not sure if it went through or not, so I'll wait a bit and see if I get an email or something (receipt). Just wanted to let you know that there was an issue making donations. Thanks again for everything, you Rock!
Thanks man I appreciate it! I don't see anything to do with it in the backend so I would assume it didn't go through for whatever reason.
It's funny how personal that is. I did an almost-two-hours non stop test ride on the stock seat and I had none of the problems you had with the stocks. I have a 33 inch inseam and weigh about 260 pounds (had to convert from metric though) and my nether regions felt fresh as a daiy after the test ride. I'm getting the 2017 version (in the euro AE variety) in a month or two, I chose to keep the stock seat, I wonder whether I'll get fed up with it in the end.
Hi Brian, love your videos. Your channel has become my new bible. I'm 6'2" and 215 lbs, my wife wants to start touring with me, and I'm picking up a 2016 FJR ES in a few days. So you guessed it, I'm learning so much from all your vids. The seat is my biggest question mark. Once I have some experience I'll need to decide for touring whats best. I understand your logic as to why the LAAM, and I likely will be going down this path too. How has your experience with the LAAM seat been after a number of trips (I'm assuming by now). Would love to hear the longer term feedback. Keep them coming, your skills with the how to's are amazing. Thank you!!
It’s flawless, but the buying experience now sucks.
@@TwoWheelObsession I went ahead and bought my seat last year and it wasn't perfect, but I held out until the end of the year, I sent it back for revision... When you say something sucked are we talking about the service? Would love to hear from you? Maybe preferably not in the comments section.
I just ordered one 2 days ago, talked to Seth super nice guy
And that's why I live in NorCal, warm summer days, cool nights and low humidity! :-D Nice vid! I see this guy is up in Redding CA, about a 3 hour ride for me. On my next swing through there I'm going to see if he lets visitors stop by.
Oh yes and he even has ride ins! If you go to him he can create your custom seat while you wait!
It’s been 5 years since you made this video. Curious to know the status of the custom seat and if you still feel it’s a good buy.
I just bought a 2020 fjr and am experiencing the exact same issues with the stick seat as you had.
Please advise. Thanks
Thanks, I’m going back and forth Sargent or Laam, Russell maybe the most comfortable but you must leave the light off in the garage until you get on it, so you don’t have to see what you did to a beautiful bike.
Thanks for the video.. after doing a 600 mile ride on my stock fjr seat, I'm ordering a Laam seat.. assuming I can connect with Laam! I'm also doing the vinyl carbon filter!
Lol I went to college in Tampa (USF) and I always hated the weather there. It's absolutely brutal during the summer.
May I ask if you had considered the Corbin or Sergeant seats, what made you forgo them?
Twowheelobsession,
So, let me get this straight ? Change seat foam or stuffing to fit on it? Modified by two positions on bike ?
All bikes this way or just the few out there, like Yamaha FJR1300?
Solid review by you as usual. And welcome to the club. I’m on my toes on my FJR with the stock seat in the low position. I can literally ride down the road straight legged and not touch ground in the high position! LOL!
My first fjr was 12 years ago, been in the club a while lol thx!
Sorry but I meant the club of feeling what’s it’s like to not be able to touch solidly with your feet. I’m only 5’6. Every motorcycle I’ve owned I’m on my toes! LOL!
Ooooh lol - I flatfoot - just barely.
Laam is the master! I have no idea why Corbin is so popular (and I say that having had two of them.)
Like the vid, very in depth. I'm currently looking at getting a fjr later this year or early next, I currently own a road King, I like it, but I also like the look of the sport tourer, I do about two long trips per year, and am hoping that the fjr would be a nice fit for those. Have you taken any extended trips on either of this one or the prior, if so how did it fare?
+moose3971 I've ridden a few trips for several hundred miles in a day - it's still awesome
What do you think of the Saddleman seat?
Bryan, really enjoyed the video...just found you yesterday but I am really liking your adventure. I don't know why people get so stroppy when you don't like what they like but I suspect it's a narcissistic insecurity. Glad they don't feel that way about women or we'd all be married to the same one. Keep the vids coming and ride safely.
Thanks man!
watched your video on Laam seat,I own a 2013 fjr . I was wondering if it makes you feel as if the seat is in the higher setting because of padding ? I prefer the lower setting on the stock seat .I don't like stock seat for all day rides.thanks for your input. Chris, Ocala Fl
No but your legs can't go as straight down
Thank you for the seat review, I believe I will now try a Lamm!
Any Chance you can share the width of the front seat at its widest point (at the wings), as I would like it replicated with a little less width at that point for improved side-to-side movement.
Thanks again for your reviews and I might suggest something from TankSlapper, good product that worked well on my 14 FJR.
WRUSHSoccerTexas 16.5"
I have a 2009 FJR, but I am short, 5' 4" and the seat is too wide, any suggestions.
Excellent review! This is exactly what I was looking for! How does the seat exchange work? I did not see that option on Laam's web site. All it said is to send my stock seat in to have it done. I'm 5'8 with 30" inseam and I'm struggling with the height as is. Do you think if I can slide forward and put my legs down to have the stock reach with the Laam seat? In other words, the back where the wings are, are where the height was increased. Does the front have the same height as stock or is it taller too? Thank you!
The website is out dated and missing info like the exchange program. Call him and he can answer the specifics about if it sounds like the right fit for you he goes through everything.
Hey Bryan, I am looking into a Laam seat and I am interested in the fabric you selected. Is that just standard black vinyl? It look like it has a little texture to it. Also, is your seat considered oversized or regular?
phalynx It's called the carbon fiber weave - it's very similar to the stock pattern, looks and feels great. Regular.
Thanks man. I think the picture he has on his website is a little too "close-up" and makes the weave look bigger than it actually is. It looks great on your bike. I am going to have him make a set for me with 1 exception, I have a broken tailbone and I think if he puts an indention where it would normally sit, I wouldn't feel the pressure. I think that is similar to what you were feeling except you fixed your with more foam. I modified my recliner at home by removing a small section where the tailbone sits and it makes all the different in the world. We'll see.
phalynx I can not see that working with the FJR LAAM seat, the pan is only 1" thick there. You would probably need something else IMO
I wonder if he could put more foam on it to build it up more. I purchased a used seat set so I can send those in. I'll take a good look at them when I get them so I can see what might be able to be done and then I'll talk with Laam. I like his pricing and he seems to want to build what you need vs. what someone normally builds.
phalynx Yes he can certainly do that, just bear in mind the standard already adds an inch of height. He's CRAZY busy now, I got in before the explosion and my video didn't help lol Early morning calls seem to reach him the best, forget email.
Thanks for your review, I have a BMW R1200 GSA and a lot of pain on my tailbone, so, I'm lookign for a Russel of LAAM, (LAAM is shipper).....I'm coming from a GL1800 that is another issue jejejejej....
Have u ever talked about why u have the fjr
Twowheelobsession,
You may need to really bottom of boots to give you more feet on ground or road way.
Hi Bryan, is there a way or aftermarket seat that can be lower than stock? I am on the balls of my feet at the moment and I would love to flat foot
Not really. Thicker boots is your best option.
Yeah, I know this comment is 6-7 years late, but...what was the turn-a-round time from order to receipt of the Laam seat?
I need to I need to know where the last year's taxes the front seat down I need to unlock can you show me that
omg i tot for a second there u farted, u make good informative content
I notice your video is a couple years old now, what is you impression of the seat now? More importantly, How does your wife like it? My wife complains of feet going numb, and for the longest time I was thinking it was from vibration in the foot pegs, but now think it may be the stock passenger pad cutting off circulation.
Thanks for taking time to review and post this!
She doesn’t ride much but never complained about it at all. It’s perfect for me, all day comfort
Are those the stock side bags? They look larger than normal. If not stock, what brand?
+tom pogue stock
I'm thinking it looks good for going down the interstate, but when it comes to the sport of sport/touring you couldn't really move around on the seat. With the stock seat you look to be much more able to shift yourself around when going through the twisties.
Yep I mentioned that. Any seat with wings preclude shifting like a stock.
Forgot to mention I enjoy your videos and thank you for doing them. I'll mull it over this winter, but I've decided to get a '15 FJ ES. The grey looks really nice and like you, I didn't care for the silver band below the seat on the '14's- it's all body color now.
This is why you ride to the facility, and have them custom make the seat for you. No guesswork…
My Seth Laam turned my CTX from an hour bike into a "as long and far as you want" bike.
How much do these cost?
Been thinking of getting a RDL. But I found Laam and he's got better prices. Just going to get my front seat done. Girlfriend says she's fine with her seat. I was wondering if when you ordered your seat, did you get the over sized seat? Cause I definitely want the wings. I think that's what will make the seat most comfortable. Even distribution of my a**.
Donald Brooks I don't know what you mean by oversize, he only has one for the FJR
@@TwoWheelObsession Hi Brian, I think he means the LAAM price list, has listed prices for stock...then he has prices for over size. Maybe its a question for LAAM.
How much $$ for the Laam?
hello Bryan.i have 2005 FJR and i have an oil leak in the front forks can you help me by explaining the proses the way you do your videos? i really find you way you do videos very interesting and easy to understand.thank you .William Angel, from Los -Angeles.
Sorry I have the es not regular forks and won't do vids like that unless I need the repair
okay there any website that you can refer me to? and I'm sorry, if I'm bother you.
William Angel No bother - but I'm not aware of one
Once again Bryan, a great review! We have Yamaha's Comfort seat but have the stock seat for when we sell on. I agree about opinions with bikers. We've been members of a Pan European owners club (www.northernpanriders.co.uk ) now for 9 years and although we've no longer got a Pan, we've remained members because of the social aspect of the club. Mind you, if we were members of the national Pan European owners club, The Pan Clan, we would have had to leave when we got the FJR! Anyway, some in our club have decided to give us the cold shoulder just because we now own the fjr! They can go to hell for me.
:-) Thanks again Bryan. Try to stay cool. Lol.
Down here in FL the OEM Comfort seat isn't even an option - Gel seats are a quick way to just roast your butt lol
Yes we had our Pan European's seat redesigned by www.tonyarcher.co.uk/ Problem is there is that he's used the bike's seat and when you sell on and plan to buy another new Pan, you have to have the seat done again. As I type, the temp is a nice 68f. Rain is around though. Off now to do some cementing in the garden before the rain.
Seth sent me a note on 11/17 that he was shipping my seat back the next day. However, it never was shipped and he hasn't returned my calls or emails. I don't know what to do at this point. Has anyone else had this problem?
👍
No good for me, i'm on the balls of my foot with standard seat. 31" inside leg. Was thinking of buying a lowering kit until a mechanic told me it really messes up the handling, anyone experience this?
How short are you?
Throw a towel or cloth on the Yamaha Comfort seat if you're going to park it in the sun. Otherwise it's primo. I'm not a fan of any black seat left sitting in the sun. The LAAM is great. I prefer the Yamaha comfort. Have two local riders in the market if anyone has a comfort seat they wish to part with.
Honda ST1300 made me feel on the seat, made me feel as if I had a camera shoved up facing my butt, instead of side ways.
How much was that seat ?
All his prices and options are right on his site.
Okay thanks i enjoy your videos thanks i have a 2015 fjr and you have given me a lot of good ideas thanks again
So this is not a seat for a 29" inseam rider like myself?
+Orlando Diaz only if you like tippy toes
LOL. Spencer Seats supposedly mods the seats for lower riders so that's an option. Thx
Resoul
I thought this seat is designed for big fat asses, but you are saying that it is not. But the seat is way too wide for me I am 5-6".
Seat is great. Seth Laam is a prick
That does seem to be the consensus lol
I made the decision to go with him after watching your video. Once he had my seat in California, He treated me like crap over the phone. I`ve never been talked to like that by a person that I was doing business with. Fortunately, the seat is great! lol
@@TwoWheelObsession
Well, I decided to do the seat modification on your recommendation, and because of your experience with him. I think you should update the video, and share what you've learned about him.
