  • Zambian Economist Grieve Chelwa joins Bad Faith to explain how mass protests in Kenya defeated IMF-backed austerity policies, and how the IMF and World Bank use debt as a mechanism of control. Dr. Chelwa charts how the BRICS bank & dedollarization may provide a way out for countries struggling under western debt-control, and the crucial role global solidarity must play. This is one of those big picture episodes you wont want to miss.

William Ruto thought he could sell our country to the West and Western institutions, and Kenyan youth said "No"!

I'm glad BJG is doing more coverage of the materialist basis of imperialism, the highest stage of capitalism. It ties a lot of things together. More interviews like this.

I know this episode likely won’t get as many views as your US-centric interviews, but it’s such a good and necessary discussion. Keep bringing these guests on, Brie. With solidarity, a global south viewer and new subscriber.

I once read a long time ago, I think in a book by economist Jeffrey Sachs, that the IMF and/or the World Bank would loan money to non-Western countries without taking into consideration the way that the cultures of those countries dealt with money or the idea of loans, imposing a Western valuation on the process and encountering problems because of it, but instead of examining why, in terms of, again, the potential cultural issues, they would just blame the country for being bad with money or something. Very imperialist view. Thank you, again, Briahna, for a wonderful, educational interview and exchange of ideas. I always learn something new!
