    Started this just a week ago.. The thought of gaining weight terrifies me but I can't keep going on living with the relationship I have with food right now (back and forth between restricting and then overeating every other month), so I'm not going to stop. The first week was rough and I ate nothing but sweets but after that my body got a little bored of it and started craving things that are nutritious too lol. Overall my mindset around food is so much better already and I'm really happy I decided to do this. Best of luck to you

      It took me a year to find my groove with intuitive eating. I did put some weight on during the process, but not a lot. I just had to push past that and trust my body. I filled my fridge and pantry with super delicious and nutritious foods and enjoy processed stuff when out or at a party etc. I only eat when I’m hungry and I eat until I am comfortably full. This means that some days I eat more, others less, but that’s just how it goes. After about a year, the weight has slowly but surely started coming off, and I wonder when will my body stop losing weight. At what point will it settle, what weight/size does my body like being at? These questions excite and fascinate me because after about 40 years of dieting I’ve lost touch with my body’s needs and wants, and I so look forward to reconnecting with my body, learning more about it every single day. It’s a long road because of all the damage dieting and restriction has done, but for me, a road well worth taking. I simply can’t bare the thought of yet again going on some stupid diet. Good luck with your journey and trust the process, trust your body. ❤

    Sleep is soooo important and stress management more than anyone knows ! If cortisol is high nothing will make weight / fat loss budge ! I had to address the stress cortisol with gentle yoga , walking , meditation, and going to bed early no TV after 8 ! All that made my food cravings go away and I now crave real nutritious foods but I do have times I allow foods that are not perfectly nutritious but not like I used to ! I’m at my ideal weight now and I feel amazing ! STOP DIETING DEAL WITH THE MENTAL , EMOTIONAL , STRESS ISSUES instead of looking for quick non sustainable diets ! There a dead end road to misery

    A book I’ve read that has really changed my thinking around food is Ultra-processed People by Chris Van Tulleken. It mainly focuses on how ultra processed food is manufactured to make us overeat it, and it really messes with our signals to stop or feel satisfied. We as humans do have the capacity to regulate our nutrition with nutrients and amounts but UPF has totally messed up those signals as we haven’t evolved to deal with those kinds of ‘foods’ (they actually call them food-like substances because they’re so over processed but that’s another story). It’s such an interesting book, I’d really recommend the audiobook. I’m really trying to eat mainly whole ingredients and think critically about UPF before I eat it

    Yep the keto , carnivore diets screwed up my body so bad …. And my relationship with food ! I did all the things Dr ken Berry and many of those gurus said and NEVEF EVER AGAIN ! I’m finally losing fat after refeeding intuitive eating and I crave real food most of the time . I feel FREE NOW IM NOT CONSTANTLY THINKING ABOUT FOOD AND NO MORE TRACKING MACROS ! Freedom and excellent healthy feels great !

      Omg same, I got well slim but I crashed and burned and regained most of not more…the mindset was (and still is) messed up from carnivore keto…..way to restrictive . I would have crazy carb craving week before my period and it sent me to crazy land in my head, literally couldn’t think about anything else

    I ate intuitively for the last two years and it increased the amount of sweets my body craves on a daylie basis. I think allowing yourself to eat anything is fine but instead of intuitive eating try to eat mindful. I can eat one bag of chips, 12 bars of chocolate and my body will still tell me that it is not full and not satisfied. Eventhough I just ate over 2k calories in half an hour. And this will not change if I just let it happen. Because it is so damn easy to overeat on these food without feeling any form of satisfaction. So for me, intuitive eating is a big no no if you struggle with overeating on junkfood.
    You need to find balance in your diet first. Eating healthy, fresh foods that actually make you feel full and lowering the amount of foods that doesn't without restricting them too much. Eventually, you will reach a point where you can eat intuitively because your body is fueled with more variety and can actually show you what it wants. But if you are used to only eating fastfood and sweets most of the time, your body will not suddenly tell you to eat something healthy. It will also not suddenly tell you to eat less. The more you eat, the larger your stomach gets and the more food you need to feel full.
    So you'll eventually need to lower your food intake if you are overeating and gaining to a point where it isn't healthy anymore. But the key is to take small steps, even baby steps. Then it can actually be sustainable.

      You're not listening to your body at all. We have strong mechanisms to survive so our body will never ask for junk food or that amount of food it's supposedly asking you. It's your diet mindset. And it's not a criticism, I've been thinking the same as you and some time ago it just hit me that I'm still on dieting mindset. It's not that easy to listen truly to our body like we think, because nobody teaches us how to feel. It's always don't cry, don't be sad, don't this or that, so with time we get disconnected from our body. Don't think you'll connect in a few months. It's a long process. And be aware if you're not doing mindful eating full of "healthy" rules. Seriously, our ego has a lot of tricks to protect us, guaranteeing our survival but not our happiness.

      @@dessi88 bodies will absolutely ask for junkfood since its made to be highly addicting, engineered by massive teams, companies spend millions if not billions to make it as addicting as possible, its so insanely processed and pumped full of crap on top of more crap that's illegal in most of the world (if you are from the US)

      Bodies will ask for junk food. Proccessed sugars (carbs) are the preferred source of energy. In fact, thats part of the reason many of us like fruits and breads.

    My struggle for the last decade has been that my body feels like it wants to be forty pounds heavier than is healthy for me, and I fight against that (mentally and physically) because I KNOW that forty pounds of extra fat CANNOT be a healthy weight for me! I don't want it to be a healthy weight for me!

    This is SO helpful! I have a background of anorexia as a teen and binge eating and bulimia for most of my twenties. I'm now 35 with 2 young kids (including one who is still breastfeeding). I don’t get enough sleep and struggle to meet my own needs and don't have tons of practical support with the kids. My job is wfh and alternates between boring and stressful. I discovered Mindy Pelz and intermittent fasting for women months ago as well as reading about nutrition and ultra processed foods. It sent me down a rabbit hole of veering wildly off course into binge eating and comfort eating again.
    I can see how not looking after my basic needs and sleeping enough contributes to my eating. I notice I eat to reward or comfort myself depending on how my day has gone with the kids.

    I went all-in a month ago, Ive gained some weight & im quite scared because I'm literally always hungry & I fear that I'll keep on eating & gaining weight. Such a scary place to be in 😭 but I won't quit even though I'm always thinking of starting a new diet

      It doesn't go on forever! You've got this!! but honestly it is best to be in 100% (mentally committed) although it's really scary I appreciate that (I know!). Because otherwise you can get stuck one foot in and one foot out. Trust in the process and give it your all and allow yourself to just eat without questioning it. It's really important to the process.

      I wish I could give you a timeline but it can range from weeks to months for extreme hunger. And it can go up and down it's not always linear. But if you honour your hunger most people come out of extreme hunger within a few months

    Omg! Just found your channel, and you are so underrated. Thank you for this content 💙. I've struggled with restriction and binging for many years. I've been doing really good with intuitive eating lately, but I feel I eat too much some days. It can be hard these days comparing your food intake to your friends or people online though. I feel like that can skew anyone's views on what their body truly needs. You made some good points and gave great advice 😊!

    ''Intuitive eating'' led me over a decade to a dangerous state of obesity - I even ended up in A&E. Since I started controlling what I eat and NEVER eating intuitively (It's too dangerous for me) I am finally back to a healthy weight and now have a much better relationship with food and with my body :)

    WOw te quiero dar las gracias desde el fondo de mi corazon es de hecho darte cuenta de los problemas que estas teniando es realmente libarador y te da esperanza. por estas tratando de perder peso con dietas restrictivas he tratado de todo y nunca he podido ser concistente, tengo desde los 14 y ahora tengo 21 años y si es verdad que aveces funcionan pero nada por mucho tiempo, y estaba muy triste, he desarrollado problemas de anxiedad y aveces me siento en un estado muy depresivo y como un fracaso, hoy descide hacer algo diferente algo en lo que no confiaba y es prestan atencion a los espertos a fuentes confiables, y darme cuenta de que no todos los concejos son aplicables para ti dependiendo en la situacion que este, no suelo escribir ni comentar y talvez suene pretencioso decirlo. Solo muchas gracias de verdad y gracias por compartir tus conocimientos y hacer de este mundo un mejor lugar, aportar para cambiar la realidad de muchas personas.     started trying it, mess up a few times, and i actully don't eat as much food as i thought i woulld have. I also like to write down how i felt after eating certain foods, or when i am not hungry, or hungry. I am currently mostly happy at the moment. Relaxing is actually very helpful to me :)

    I stopped eating real food and ate cakes cookies ice cream and felt so guilty and it became a while different challenge. I get scared that something is so wrong with me… gained weight and want this to work so much. This video was helpful ❤

    Hi. I'm 2 years into recovery and I've maintained the same weight now for about a year but I hate the weight my body has chosen. I was never underweight. My disordered eating habits went on about 26yrs but much less severe in the past 7 years or so.
    I got Covid mid-recovery and it has totally messed my body up. I didn't exercise for over a year with recovery and Covid made it worse. Now it's so hard to get motivated and I'm flabby af. Also, I now have a low appetite and major food aversions because of the smell distortion from Covid. I feel like I'm eating whatever sounds good because it's rare that something even does but many days it's not enough. AND I just got braces so I can't easily eat certain types of healthy foods I normally like. I'm concerned I've slipped into some new form of disorder...my food choices are mostly carbs now. And I don't feel super healthy. Do Nutritionists like you help people to come up with meal ideas in order to get all the nutrients in when you're options are so limited?

      Hi @brefishburn7478, I had a very similar experience. Years of restriction and I don't get hungry in the mornings because I always skipped breakfast. I had covid twice and the second time it messed up with my smell and taste. Food smelled like sewage for a long time, although it's mostly gone now. How are you going with everything?

    One of the points is eating too many processed foods or drink is what I did. Sugar and processed foods high jacked my brain. Now that I am back to eating Whole Foods, my hunger and satiation cues came back online. Yeah!
    Stress and lack of good rest also contributes to my overeating.
    Rachael- you are totally spot on about all of the potential reasons.

    Hello… For roughly 5 or 6 years if not more I have gotten up and eating a majority of my calories in the middle of the night. I eat dinner my one big meal around 8 o’clock to 9 o’clock at night. Then I have a protein shake made like ice cream before bed literally go to bed stuffed every. I’m typically not hungry during the day and if I do eat seafood really hurts my stomach. Therefore, I wait until I have nothing else to do at night. Please help.

    I’m trying intuitively eating now after over 30 years of off and on dieting. I’ve been maintaining within 5 lbs the last few months, but I am about 50 pounds overweight. I’m in my late 50s and feel this is probably where I will be for life .

    My problem during my current BED recovery is, that diating and fully controlling what i eat leads me to binging but likewise does giving up all control. I have tried intuitive eating but after a while it starts triggering me insanely, that i dont know the calories in my food or the fullness/ hunger. So i kinda always end up binging. And i always cook for myself and eat every food group. So honestly i dont get it at this point.

      I think that's why for most people with an ED it doesn't work to just consciously switch to intuitive eating. An ED is not a practical life decision we made, something is driving it and unless that is healed psychologically, the way it manifests somatically won't go away. No one can just decide to not be triggered by not knowing the calories bc if that worked, they wouldn't have an ED in the first place. I hope you can find a solution that works for you, I'm struggling, too and it's a daily chllenge ❤

      Would you say more? What do you mean about being triggered? When you don’t know how many calories then does that make you feel a little out of control then you say why not go all out now? What did you mean by not knowing hunger/full?

      Yes!! I will do! As always, the answer may be 'it depends '. Perhaps consider: in your vision of your healthy relationship with food, are these foods in your house, not in your house or do you not mind? And how much, if so? It may be true that being surrounded by these foods increases cravings for some people that otherwise wouldn't be there whereas for some they are not bothered by their presence. Also, there may be a difference to one tub of ice cream in the freezer and a whole cupboard full of refined foods?
      What is it you REALLY want? And what would be most helpful for you?
      For you is it more helpful to have these foods out of the house and enjoy them out of the house or to identify and address the reasons its hard to have them in the house and feel in healthy control?
      Lots of other questions I could ask, ill leave it there and make a video on it!

    A big question I have is what if your genetic "set weight" is naturally a bit over BMI 25, and the doc says you are overweight? What if you are constantly trying to be at 25 BMI or under BMI 25 so the doctor won't scold you at your checkups? I feel like my natural set weight is always around BMI 26 or 27. I have to fight to keep it at 25 or under.

      I feel like I’m like this… I have a broad build (broad shoulders, big calves) so wonder if this is a factor. When I was at my slimmest, running regularly and intuitive eating a healthy diet I was a BMI of 25 but find that quite hard to maintain.

      You could bring in the history and inaccuracy of BMI (be polite!). BMI doesn’t factor in bone thickness and density or athletic bodies. It was never invented to be used as a measure of health. Ask if there are any other indications, labs, or symptoms of poor health they see in you that aren’t weight.
      The other option is to make light of it. Like a family member who will predictably always bring up a topic and you know it’s coming. You could just get used to knowing your doc will give the lecture each appointment so they can mark in their notes that they informed you.
      Another option is to ask your doc for a referral to a different doctor that is part of the HAES movement. Explain that you don’t think your weight is a health factor, and would prefer a doctor who looks at labs and symptoms as health markers instead of simply BMI. Even if there isn’t one close, you’ve now brought up the topic and hopefully they’ll have enough interest to learn more themselves.

      I assumed my set weight was like BMI 35 because that was effortless for me to maintain.. then I ended up in A&E due to the effects obesity was having on my body. I stopped ''eating intuitively'' and now have a healthy diet which I constantly monitor. My BMI is now 21. Yes it's effort to maintain, but for an alcoholic it's also an effort not to drink. we have to do what's best for us though and sometimes the most effortless thing isn't the healthiest (and that's always missing from these discussions)

    I'm just really scared about the side effects. I've started getting into natural eating two months ago and I've gained a decent 10kg since then. Even if it balances out one day My skin will probably be damaged long term and I'll never get a non flabby belly. That really gets me down and I just hope it will be worth it at some point. Realistically I don't really have a choice at this point I guess.

    Hi, i’m not sure if anyone will see this but i hope someone does. i’ve just come off the back of losing 52kg through strict calorie restriction and excercise, i’ve started to loosen my calorie tracking and feel myself eating everything in sight, im really scared and feel like im going to gain weight. the icing on the cake is also the fact im a chef,surrounded by highly pallatable foods. it’s so hard but i will find a way through it, please can someone help me

      I would say do it, I have never restricted too much but I do like to know what my next meals will be and stick to it. Helps me to avoid binging and grazing and also makes shopping and time management much easier

    Immediately gained 7 pounds in two weeks, felt so lethargic, my face was puffy. My stomach hurt. No. 😆

      I don't believe in it either as something everybody can do. It's not for me that's for sure but it does work for a lot of people

      i made the same experience and just stopped cause i was very afraid as my extreme hunger just did not stop and i gained alot:-/ how are you doing?

    I have to be careful with chips (especially Cheetos and Doritos) because I can't hear my body telling me I'm satiated with them. To help, I like to top my doritos with 5 layer dip because I can feel satisfied with the other ingredients.

      Chips and Cheetos are designed to make you not want to stop eating them. There’s no fiber or protein so you will never feel sated with them

    I just dont understand how ? Im 175sm active female vegan & i gain alot on 3000 calories . How i can increase my metabolism ? How long i need to be in this heavy weight for my metabolism adapt to higher calories ? Thank u . 😊

      I have so many questions when it comes to this! My main ones are: are you actively trying to reach 3000kcal or are you reaching this amount by 'intuitively eating'? Are you incorporating adequate fats and proteins in to your diet as well? What is your history of dieting like? What is your weight now (is it in the healthy weight range)? What is your activity level like? 3000kcal is totally possible on average for someone of your height but this is typically for a high activity level and muscle mass.

      @@RachaelWrigley I was on binge & starve mode for a year now . 3 weeks ago i start to eat till im full on HCLF diet (+-3000calories) . I gain 7 kg . i was lifting in the past , but because my ED i was cooked after a set of exersice . Im 175sm & now im weight 77kg . My hunger is not that extrime now . but i feel i need more food , & im still gaining on 90p/700/20. But to be fear i eat refinde carbs too . Thank you for help .

      I would suggest you stop tracking everything in order to become an intuitive eater and follow what you want to eat. It seems you still have some food rules that may be hindering your progress. It can take months to a few years to finally settle at a set point weight especially after a restrictive eating disorder. Which is why it's important to release food rules and learn to enjoy food rather than fear it, accept the weight gain and focus on appreciating yourself and life for other reasons. Are you working with a therapists?

      I think she’s looking at notes. I have my own YT channel and it’s really difficult to film and not look at notes. It’s the best way to have a concise video.

    What about if you’re basically recovered and you’re eating intuitively but the weight won’t come off 🥲 I know I’m not like super big or anything but just two years ago I weighed much less and was also eating intuitively and I just want to go back to that kind of body
