  • The Bárðarbunga earthquake might be a very interesting part of a larger story that involves widespread land uplift by Europes largest glacier, Vatnajokull. It sits on Iceland's hot spot where Iceland's mother of all volcanoes has been rumbling ever since the 2014 eruption.

Thanks, Gylfi. Interesting update on Barðarbunga. According to the Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program, prior to the spectacular 2014-2015 episode, Barðarbunga had not had a confirmed eruption since 1910. Up until then, it had erupted roughly every 5-15 years.
However, the same site documents no less than 10 *unconfirmed* eruptions between 1986 and 2008, which is a lot more frequent than 5-15 years, even if only half of those could be confirmed (I'm assuming that the uncertainty is due to those eruptions being subglacial, and therefore difficult to confirm, or to distinguish from those of its close neighbour, Grímsvötn).
Also, thanks for the giggles at the end. If we don't get some rain soon here in South Australia, I might have to resort to the unique Icelandic method of planting flowers in my garden next Spring! 😂

Thank you for another great video. If you visit Iceland stop and read the many historical signs that are along the highway. This is one near Stokkseyri. An enormous eruption around 6700 B.C. in t he Heljargja canyon in the veloivotn region. The lava flowed at least 140 Km or 87 miles until it reached the sea. This is called the great pjorsarhraun lave eruption. It about 975 sq km or 376 sq miles and its volume is 25 km or 6 cubic miles. You can get a lot of information about Iceland from the signs along the road and this is just one of them. I look at your video and think Iceland past now and future. You cover all so well. will be back in Iceland for my 8 visit from June 26 until Aug. 14. I always find something new with each visit. Thank you Ben

Hammering flowers? You might want to consider the pneumatic floralspike market. Air tools that can plant 100 flowers per minute in the hands of a skilled florist, though you need a permit to own one... pranksters shooting tulips into the buttcheeks of their "friends" are why we can't have nice things.
