  • The volcano in Geldingadalir is becoming even weirder and has now transformed into a kind of fire geyser. Currently, all of the craters have now dried up except the one scientists call Number Five. And said crater is behaving like a geyser, spewing lava and fire into the air. When we were there, the lava fountain reached probably over 200 metres and it’s clear that the volcano area is transforming even more than we expected.

Started to rain, then sleet, then gropple, then snow! An hour later KABLAM!!! We had an epic thunderstorm followed by a fast warm up to 80°F. You could see steam rising from the ground. This started another round of cold, rain, gropple, snow plus Thundersnow! And a Partrige in a pear tree (quail really)! I gave up taking the garbage out, put my nighty back on and went back to bed! Now I just found out a friend in Texas is getting a new truck! All thanks to the hailstorm that took out the first new truck. *sigh*

      @@eyja3 Thank you, Eyja...I made my best guess...but I am not an expert in that language, at all. I still think it would be a fitting tribute for him...entertaining and very timely, informative reporting. He captures the world's attention, and delivers the news of that event tremendously well. Thank you for your kind note...my best to you and your family, and to everyone in Iceland.

    Watching from the Uk love your videos Valor, I’ve been to beautiful Iceland in the mid 90s, my niece got engaged there after Christmas 2019 as well so I see Iceland as a great place. I hope one day I get to return. In the meantime thanks for the videos particularly the volcano ones you and fellow Icelanders have been making, I’m looking forward to seeing more :)

    Would love to see you use the power of your press pass to sponsor an RVK Newscast with a collaborative discussion between Phillip Ong (geologist) and Duane Dupont from Hawaii PODD and IS geologists. Hawaii also has effusive volcanoes. Hawaii PODD has a structured approach to discussing volcanic factors like tilt, gases, GPS changes, and earthquakes. IS geologists would provide the IS data. What a great show that could be.

    I love all the information you provide us with but today you let the mountain (Nar) do the talking! And why not? Absolutely, breathtakingly spectacular! Great photography. Also, I noticed that since you shot this film, the path that followed the left hand side of the lava field at 1:07 has been covered by more lava.

  • @caahacky
    @caahacky Před 3 lety +16

    When BoB first erupted all the shots were from a single viewpoint and you could see the lava gradually encroaching and filling up the shallow valley and evaporating the surface puddles. It would be very interesting to see a view from that point today (or as close as it's possible to get) to see the change in the landscape. Any chance you could do that for us.

    To the hikers:
    Just because the fumes are "natural" doesn't mean they're non-toxic. One is breathing in heavy metals, rock dust and sulfur. Also those volcanic bombs aren't squishy like marshmallows; one of those falling or blown at you can fracture bone easily.
