  • Famous for his somersaults and backflips in the ring, Jorge "Maromero" Paez ruled the '80s and '90s boxing scene as a colorful character, who provided full value for money to boxing aficionados for nearly two decades.
While the Clown Prince of Boxing wasn’t as great as someone like Salvador Sanchez or Julio Cesar Chavez, he was still a highly skillful boxer, whose ability to evade punches and fire back with fury set him apart from the rest of his peers.
In today’s video, we look back at the career of one of the most iconic figures in boxing.

This is the man that got me into boxing. I watched his first fight against Louie Espinoza in Mexicali at my dad's friend's mechanics workshop. I was 10 years old. I drew him in art class when I went back home after our visit to Mexicali. I was obsessed with boxing ever since.

This fighter is who made me a boxing fan when I was 13 years old. Back when they used to show fights on Saturdays on ABC you would get lucky every now and then with a great fight. All I knew was that he had a crazy haircut with a bunch of triangles in it and so did his corner man. It was years after when I learned the guy's name but here we are many decades later and i'm a still a boxing fan because of a fight I saw with some crazy Mexican, his odd haircut and jaw dropping fight. Thank you Mr. Paez
