- Famous for his somersaults and backflips in the ring, Jorge "Maromero" Paez ruled the '80s and '90s boxing scene as a colorful character, who provided full value for money to boxing aficionados for nearly two decades.
While the Clown Prince of Boxing wasn’t as great as someone like Salvador Sanchez or Julio Cesar Chavez, he was still a highly skillful boxer, whose ability to evade punches and fire back with fury set him apart from the rest of his peers.
In today’s video, we look back at the career of one of the most iconic figures in boxing. - Sport
This is the man that got me into boxing. I watched his first fight against Louie Espinoza in Mexicali at my dad's friend's mechanics workshop. I was 10 years old. I drew him in art class when I went back home after our visit to Mexicali. I was obsessed with boxing ever since.
That entrance with s bridal gown is hilarious 😂😂
@@Daniel_Antonio_Arellano782 Best showman ever! Kurt Cobain probably stole that from him. 😝
@@ruiner101 ,😂
That’s an awesome story, bro.
Such a great story!!! ty
He was so entertaining back in the day. Damn good fighter horribly underrated.

He understood entertainment, one of the greats to remember from Mexico.
Jorge was definitely one of my favorites. I usually don't like showboat fighters but he was different.
💯 Maromero was pure entertainment backed up with skill and power.
he was a former circus entertainer. i mean it with so much respect but that kind if energy translates perfectly in the ring, in an odd way its perfect
Same here. I can't stand showboating, but Maromero was definitely different. Maybe it had something to do with it being out of pure entertainment and not arrogance. Plus, he was just good at it
He only fought Oscar for money and P.R.
My boss says, if u have an attitude with shitty work vs an attitude with fine work; I can deal with that
This fighter is who made me a boxing fan when I was 13 years old. Back when they used to show fights on Saturdays on ABC you would get lucky every now and then with a great fight. All I knew was that he had a crazy haircut with a bunch of triangles in it and so did his corner man. It was years after when I learned the guy's name but here we are many decades later and i'm a still a boxing fan because of a fight I saw with some crazy Mexican, his odd haircut and jaw dropping fight. Thank you Mr. Paez
Yup, can't forget him, iconic
He came to get it on every match. Awesome fighter.
Great great Mexican fighter and amazing backstory too
Dude had 98 professional fights... unbelievable grit
Former circus clown and acrobat. There will never be another pro boxer with that intro. Very fitting. Maromero.😮😮😮
Say what you will, but this man fought the best in the world at the time.

Jorge Paez the Best of the Best on His class.
Arriva mexico.
I loved watching Maromero fights. Always so entertaining.
I remember how the refs would keep telling him throughout the fight to "cut the crap".
😂😂😂
We are sure glad he didn't. Great entertainer and fighter!
he def gave people what they paid for: entertainment
Been looking for a video of this guy.. Thank you for posting it.
You're welcome, it was an absolute pleasure to do it. Thanks for watching.
I can see some of the showboating Paez did later done by Naseem Hamed. Clearly Paez was the original showman.
Hamed and also Whitaker in my opinion got some of that style from him. Emmanuel Augustus is probably the only other original show boater who had what many would say ( and I agree ) a drunken style.
Teofimo also copied Paez
@@misanthropist3don't forget Hector El Macho Camacho(R.I.P)
El maromero es uno de los grandes del boxeo
Literally the Dennis Rodman of boxing
Very good boxer and excellent entertainer
@@thefightsector yes I love his fights he was great fighter with a weird but unique fighting style
Wasn’t Dennis Rodman a PoS?

Jorge Paez could bang like few others in his weight classes ever could. He's in my top five for his weight classes.

De los guerreros de México para el mundo
Gracias Mexico,gracias Maromero Paez.
Thanks for uploading all this great fight content. Jorge Paez is a legend in boxing. Enjoy your retirement champ.
Value for money. Well said. He was good, fun, crazy and brave. And contrary to African-American "slick " fighters, Paez was not hugging all the time and engaged a lot.
Wow! What a story and character. Loved it 😍
He was ahead of his time. What an entertainer and boxer. Thanks for watching
Awesome video !! “El Maromero” was something else. Never in a dull fight, and worthy of being remembered. Thanks, Fight Sector. 👍

De los pocos que desquitaban el pago del boleto
Como es eso?
I've musta been like 5-7 when I first saw him fight n man I was hooked. I loved his performance both the clowning n his skills the man was fun to watch. Think he was the reason I got into boxing (fan)
MAROMA: forward roll
MAROMERO: mosquito larvae 🦟🤣.... When mosquito larvae are in the water, they do these acrobatic moves like forward roll, that's why they're called 'maromeros'.
God given entertaining creative athlete as my brother "Jorge El Maromero Páez"and quite unique boxing artist, God Bless You My Brother !!!
One of my favorite boxers. Stylistic reminds me of Navarrate. Showmanship reminds me of Teo sadly there will never be another. Wish I could’ve witnessed his fights live.
one if my favorite fighters. i dont care to touch gold but i just want to be as entertaining at him
You should pursue it dude
Jorge Paez is truly one of the most entertaining boxers to ever Live
Really loved watching his fights back in the day. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
Remember I lived in calwa , he had his gym their back in the days. Didn’t really care for boxing during that time wish I would of stopped and would of met him now I’m a boxer and a fan and he’s something else . Been watching his fights lately the man was a legend , they don’t make them like that he was born like that
Maromero and Emmanuel Augustus are my two favorite boxers.
Man knew how to double up on them hooks lol beautiful to watch 👍👌
BEAUTIFUL MAROMERO PÁEZ RECOMPILATION👍🏼
This is a Piece of History
for Professional Boxing🥊🥊
🙏🏼THANK YOU ALL🙏🏼
One of my all time favorite boxers.
This was such a great documentary. Rivals any of the ones from the now defunct HBO. Had to subscribe.
He used to get drunk in Mexicali, he passed out at a park bench and was robbed for his gold. His mother in law lived in Bella Vista, we would see him out and about it in his vehicles.
😂😂 damn they didn't spare the champ?
The circus clown boxer mucho impressive.
YOU'RE AMAZING MAROMERO...I WATCHED ALL YOUR FIGHTS...IT WAS SO SO EXCITING TOO WATCH YOU FIGHT AND A GREAT DELIGHT TO SEE YOUR UNIQUE CLUMSINESS 😅MY MEXICAN WARRIOR...YOU MADE HISTORY 🇲🇽❤❤💪 THE FIGHTER AND SHOWMAN...GREAT MEMORIES

My neighbor in Fresno
Talking to the performers at the circus is fun. You get the sense who they are as people- they just love to entertain
Un maestro maromero

Maromero was something else. How can you not love this guy?
Same! 😂👌🏻
The best show man on ring!!! Thank you for sharing this great video.
Great documentary! Never knew this guy existed until this morning. What an inspiration and a LEGEND 🎉🥊
I remember Paez would wear " Te Amo Fea " on his belt line pants 😂. It translates to " i love my ugly wife "
🤨 nah it translates to "I love you ugly" I love my ugly wife would be "amo a mi esposa fea"
I marveled at this guy's entertaining fights throughout the whole video. Wish I had seen his fights, growing up. Thanks so much for uploading this vid.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching
Great video thank you so much. Enjoyed it.
The dude was a beast and enjoyed the game..
Damn, this guy went from fighting a guy while nearly wearing a dress, to fighting a guy in the next one while wearing chones.
Asi es Maromero la mera Soga!!
Viva mexico show man ese maromero saludos desde mexico

Another IBF champion. He use to have a rabbit hook, was so fast. Paez was the last
15rd fight.

The best of the best good fighter 💪
Excellent fighter good shows 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Maromero was a Punchout / Street Fighter character in real life💥
I have a picture with him at the Disneyland in the early mid 90’s.
gracias Gran Video
Uno de los mas grandes.
My mother had fam in Indio, Calexico, Mexicali. That region of Las Californias had Mero Mero Maromero fever! Back in El Monte, i met him various times when he would run in Legg Lake & Whittier Narrows. The Show of Shows in a World level Feather Weight boxer, and yes a Clown with a heart of gold.
This what a true Mexican fighter looks like he had the most heart then any
Paez didn't lose his IBF Featherweight title to Tony Lopez. After a rematch with Troy Dorsey (a draw) he moved up and challenged then IBF Super Featherweight Champion, Tony Lopez. Lopez had won his belt from Rocky Lockridge.
16:16 this taunt just became my favorite moment in boxing history.
MAROMERO WAS SO.EONE TO RECOND WITH, KOOL.😮
Crazy man❤
Brilliant
i dont know that much boxers this fast...if he hits you you dont see where it come from!
I’ve always loved Mexican boxing, a lot of tough MF’s looking to stand in the middle of the ring and trade .
4:33 dude gave him a Charlie horse 😄
Orgullo chicalon!
The Zangief outfit @25:58. 🤣
I think he would’ve beaten De La Hoya if he wasn’t paid to lose. He admitted it in an interview.
Not to take anything away from De La Hoya but at that time he was just starting out and the better boxer was Paez
tuve la fortuna de ver sus ultimas peleas siempre estaba al pendiente de que iba a hacer ahora era muy rebane.
I never heard of him till now.
El mero mero Maromero
This dude butchered and mutilated his Own Hair almost as bad as he did his opponents 😂
What a legend, great boxer
Once he cut his hair with the message: use condoms 😂😂😂 Maromero! Undisputed entertainer.
@@thefightsectorNAFTA shaved into his head made me LOL.
Una riata. Un guerrero mexicano la sangre indigena guerrera corre por nuestras venas. Mas se ensiende uno con los golpes
Dude was a professional entertainer. Ran into a young De La Hoya tho.
My sister would attend "church" with him when she was a Jehovas Witness recently. I know that's not what it's called but whatever their terminology is I meant no disrespect. He seemed like a cool guy but would try and not talk about his fighting part of his life. Real humble tho and greatly underrated as a boxer
W😱W, this guy is really entertaining 👍👍👍
