    Do you grout that piece , and is it got inside or can it go outside. Very interesting piece thank you

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 3 lety +8

      Thankyou so much, yes it has been grouted with a sanded grout. I have made a video on grouting 3 dimensional pieces like the roses, all the other tessera I just grouted as normal, it was very easy. This piece could go outside in the climate Im in because Im in a mild climate. If you are wanting your piece outside then you would be better off using plates that are made from porcelain, stained glass, vitreous tiles etc as you will get a greater longevity than the plates I used. Just make sure everything you use, substrate, adhesive and tessera are all suitable for the climate you are in. :)

      Treasury Road ,thank you for taking the time to reply I am just a beginner and can’t cut thick tesserae due to shoulder problem ,but now I realise it can be many heights as long as they stepped ok , I have done 4 steppingstones over 2 year period but now would like to start again. Also I love the bag method first time I have seen that one .

    A very clever design, the stripey plate piece leads to the flower and the leaf of the flower and the foot of the dark plate leads to the three roses. The upside down flower is nicely placed. I really like this piece.

      LOL and thankyou so much Karen appreciate that. I LOVE working with crockery as well its so versatile. Generally I love to keep my grout lines close together closer than in this video so as the grout doesn't impact the mosaic to much. Enjoy grouting its pretty easy to work with on a crockery mosaic. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)

    Beautiful.. I like how you explained the creative process. I've been under the impression the tess was not supposed to go all the way to the edge. Thanks for correcting that belief. Your piece looks great. The colors are wonderful together. Very pretty indeed. Always a pleasure to watch your video. I learn so much!!

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 3 lety +1

      Thankyou very much, some people do keep their tess back and others keep their tess to the edge, neither is incorrect, you can create how you want to create but you do need to take into account the situation of where its going to be, for instance sharp edges, is the piece going to get touched or knocked on the sides. Generally all my pieces the tess is to the edge and I use flatter smooth tess not tess that is high and could get caught on the edges. This piece is just a piece for me and wont be handled by anyone, but common sense does need to prevail if people are going to interact with the piece you create. :)

      Thankyou so much Dvora, the adhesive I used is thinset (cement based adhesive). There are different types of thinsets, Laticrete and Mapei are a couple of companies that make it, but there are other brands as well. :)

    Lovely video and enjoyed the mix of media. Can’t quite tell at end if u have also grouted in grey or is it the glue I see and it is ready to grout.. if u need to grout would u cover the flowers over with blue tac etc to stop them
    Getting filled.

    I love your videos you explain the process clearly. I wonder in the UK what the cement based tile adhesive I'd called? I've been into a couple of hardware shops and they don't recognise the name 😩 thank you

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 3 lety +2

      Thankyou so much, I would have thought it would be called cement based adhesive or thinset, I would have a look at the Mapei and also the Ardex website, both these companies make them and are in the UK. If you are unsure give these companies a call, tell them what you're going to be using it for and the materials such as glass, crockery etc and they will advise you which product and which cement based adhesive to use, that way you will be assured of getting the right product. :)

    I love the finished piece, but please tell us how you decide what color grout to use. That, for me, is the toughest part.

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 3 lety

      Thankyou very much, its a hard decision for many, but I choose the grout when Im choosing the tessera at the start that way I can change the tessera a lot easier if its not going to work with the grout colour rather than trying to figure out the grout colour at the end which is difficult trying to get a grout colour that suits all the other colours of the tess. :)

    Can you explain the grouting? Is it difficult to grout with the different heights on the tiles?

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 3 lety +2

      I have made a video on grouting 3D pieces on the channel like the roses, its not hard at all to grout those different height tiles, the grout just wipes off. :)

      @@TreasuryRoad I think I have watched almost all of your videos. But your video and grouting with the roses doesn't take into account other materials with different heights. Which is what I'm having to deal with with my back splash. I wish I could show you a picture up the back splash but I don't know how to do that with CZcams comments

    So Peter....it doesn't have to BE something...like a bird,bee,flower etc. ..what exactly is the idea behind mosaiicing???i dont seem to have grabbed the concept....I am intrigued and thank you for your time.

    • @TreasuryRoad
      @TreasuryRoad  Před 2 lety +1

      An interesting question. There is so much to mosacking in theory and design. However in simple terms mosaicking is about covering a substrate with your choice of materials to create a piece of art where all the pieces work in a cohesive design. You can use recycle materials or new materials, you can pretty well use anything To go further on the subject just have a Google. :)
