Thankyou Peter for a lovely review.
Thankyou very much appreciate that. :)
Thankyou for a lovely video, Peter
Thankyou very much.
Hi Peter, I see two different sizes for the stainless steel iridized ball chain - 2.5mm and 3mm. May I please know which size you used for your beautiful bird garden stake? Thanks!!
Hi Deni. The multicoloured ball chain is 3mm, thanks for watching and appreciate your comment. :)
@@TreasuryRoad thanks so much!!
Just seeing this now in July 2024 via Mosaic Mentoring FB page recommendation - for we beginners who asked about mosaic-ing onto a stepping stone. Can't thank you enough for this video! Your detail is something I need, it's how I absorb info 😂. Such a beautiful piece, and I learned SO MUCH! TY!
Thankyou so much Donna, l like the information as well it helps me too when l need to do a project. Appreciate you watching and your comment. 😊
I’d buy this!! Lol! What is the substrate? Sorry if you mentioned it and I missed it.
Thankyou I think they are cute and would make a great gift for yourself or a present. They are a PVC shape, if you go to my unboxing video did a couple of weeks ago it tells you more about them. czcams.com/video/yDZRN2obIhk/video.html
@@TreasuryRoad oh yay!! I missed it and will check it out. Thanks Peter!!
This is so beautiful!! I’ve tried to grind crockery before, and I must be doing something wrong - my grinder chips off little bits of the design. I have a brand new Techiglass Grinder 3. 🤷🏼♀️
Thankyou so much. There are different grits of grinding heads or you may be pushing to hard, there are also different types of crockery and some are quite cheap and can flake or chip when grinding. If the crockery has crazing on the surface that can also cause chipping in the glaze when grinding. You could also use a hand diamond grinding pad for those times you just need to take the sharp edge off. Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment. :)
@@TreasuryRoad as always, thank you so much!! ☺️
Beautiful
Thankyou very much and appreciate you watching. 😊
I've watched this several times! I have the grout. Time to put my Big Girl pants on and DO IT!! I'll let you know how it comes out!!
Lol l hear this quite a bit, people buy it and then are afraid to use it. The funny thing is once they use it they think oh that was easier than l thought. Lol Water is key for removing it, if you feel a drag on the sponge when rubbing it off then you need more water. Let me know how you go. Thanks for watching and for your comment. 😊
Thanks for some of the info...You forgot to say, wear protective gloves...You also forgot the wear a mask....That we all should be wearing... * The info about 'why' we should wear a mask was number 1. well done you...The other point is 'yes'! do not go cutting the plates up around the kitchen...well really you were correct, do it outside good advice.
Thankyou so much and thanks for watching. :)
If you use a sculped epoxy for a small project like yours, I didn't know you would still need epoxy grout after the project is done. I remember when you made a charm necklace, and I thought you just used sculped epoxy. I thought your project turned out nice. I made a mosaic bird a while ago. I'm saving this video for the future birds I make. Thank you from the USA.
Thankou so much, The epoxy grout is best when using ball chain especially of this size, its just so much easier to clean up in between the balls because the epoxy sculpt is quite thick. Yes I like saving the videos to refer back to as well. Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment. :)
Double thank you from the US. Just started mosaicing and was wondering why my ball/chain didn’t stick. More supplies.
@@diamondgirl5299 Why didn't your ball chain stick, what did you use? I was referring to the grouting differences in my previous comment. :)
Aww that little bird is just too darn cute, Peter. I love your ideas with this one, and thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much Raelene, it was a fun project to do. Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment. :)
Fabulous idea! 💕
Thankyou so much Dianne and thanks for watching. :)
Another nice little project for Christmas presents I reckon, Peter. To gild the Lily, as the saying goes, one could mosaic the back too but that might be overkill on a small piece like that maybe!
Yes I think they would make great presents, the back could be done but I think it would be a little heavy looking. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment
Love it Peter...thank you ...another creation to add to my list to make 😃
can you add color to the grout?
You can change the colour of grout and thinset with coloured oxides or a good artists pigment. There are ratios to go by so its best to have a talk to your mosaic grout retailer that sells the colourants. Thanks for watching. :)
Thanks for trialling these and the useful tips. Off to get some now.
Thankyou very much and my pleasure. Thanks for watching. :)
Brilliant! I wish I had seen this last year. I did a butterfly 🦋 the hard way bit by bit 😢. It looked beautiful but so does yours with much less head wobble 😂.
Thankyou very much, they are fun to do and you can make them quite complex, its just I needed to produce quite a few so I took an easier way out. 😉 Appreciate you watching and your comment as well. :)
where can Mac glue be purchased??? thanks
MAC Glue is no longer being made, the resin used in it is no longer being sourced so MAC are working on a new formula but no one knows when that will be released. You can use Prep MultiUse adhesive for GOG, its an Australian product but you can purchase it off Ebay or from Merlin Mosaica in Australia who ship internationally. If you are in the USA its quite cost effective to buy from Australia because of the $US being worth more. I consider MAC Glue to be the best for GOG but Prep is a good adhesive. Thanks for watching and appreciate the comment. :)
@@TreasuryRoad Do you like the Prep product as much as Mac? I want to do a long mosaic glass window. Thanks so much I will check with Merlin Mosaics. I was hoping to find an Amazon dealer
@@TreasuryRoad Could E600 be used successfully?
E6000 is not a good product to use for GOG, because of its curing it can cause cracking of the glass. Also its quite toxic and gives off harmful fumes that you would constantly be breathing in. Its okay for small projects like jewellery but definitely not for Glass On Glass. A number of people use GE Silicone 2? for GOG in the USA, I haven't and its not available here in Australia maybe worth checking out. Thanks for watching Patty. :)
Prep is a good adhesive but I still consider MAC to be the best for Glass On Glass. I also use it as a general adhesive as well, its clearer, dries quicker and is waterproof when FULLY cured. I have used MAC glue for over 10 years, it was designed by an artist and it is a lot thinner than other adhesives but that's a plus for GOG. :)
Thank you!!
Thankyou Dee and my pleasure. :)
Thank you for this informative video. Just what I have been looking for before I start my outdoor mosaic project.
Thankyou very much Sue, I'm glad its helped you moving forward with your project. Appreciate the comment. :)

I really enjoy using my Taurus 3 ring Wet Saw. I could make projects all day with it. Thank you for explaining about them. Your videos are so helpful to me. I have watched your videos for years now. Also, thank you for using a picture of my Flow Blue pendant necklaces in your video. That was nice of you, and it made me very happy. I made a garden gazing ball from one of your videos on "How To Make a Gazing Ball." Please keep making more videos.
Thankyou very much, your necklaces are beautiful using antique china and l was pleased that you allowed me to show your gorgeous pieces in the video. I am glad the videos have helped you and it’s good to know you made a gazing ball, they are fun to make. Appreciate the support and for being a Treasury Road viewer and subscriber. ❤
I am not in the market for one right now, but I've heard blades are expensive and need replacing frequently. Are blades universal or do specific models require certain blades and if so, what might price variances be? I know that may be dependant on location but ballpark figure?
The blades and parts are not cheap but it is a specialty item that comes into its own when needed. There are different blades available and they are specific to the brand of ring saw. I would suggest you do a search on the internet to find out the price differences in your country and these are likely to change, the Taurus parts are dearer over the Gryphon from what I have seen. Two of the main reasons why the blades fail is people push hard against the blade and don't allow the blade to do the work or/and they just keep water in the reservoir all the times. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
Excellent advice, given these are expensive items for most of us. I’m sure your video will be helpful to so many. Your comparison criteria were excellent choices too. As a former owner of one of these I decided to sell it for reasons not covered here though. So I wondered if your opinion on my issues would also be helpful to others? For example, I found the clearance to put material to the blades was CRITICAL if you were trying to cut things like a mug for instance - so though I had no problem with cutting flat glass then bigger items caused an issue. Of course, the way round that, would be to use the ring saw as hand held - so not with the table and water reservoir in place. But I found mine was far too heavy to hold and make any steady accurate cuts. Frankly, my Dremel was easier and lighter to use …,but that brings me to my last issue. So many newbies rush to buy such machines and yet I realised I’d been rash to do exactly the same thing. You see, I only do mosaics for a hobby and i don’t do exclusively glass - so I’d say while commercial mosaicists and teachers - yes - would find purchase of such machines very useful indeed - I think others might base a vital purchasing decision on the amount of use they expect to give it because the cost might not justify it to a hobby person, while it will to somebody running a mosaic business. (And in Australia it is close to end of tax year so they can offset its purchase price 😜) your thoughts, as always Peter, are very welcome.
Thanks so much Wendy and I totally agree with your statement. I think if I was cutting cups I would just purchase a cheap wet saw, easier and cheaper. The height clearance would definitely be an issue on a ring saw for cutting cups, not only that the spare parts will be considerably more for the ring saws. It is an investment and the purchaser would want to make sure its going to be used, my one has come in handy however it hasn't been used a lot, some artists do use there's on a almost daily basis. The times I have used it has been very handy however its a lot of money sitting there not being used. Thanks for the comment and also for watching. :)
Very good information. Thx.
Thankyou very much Judy and thanks for watching. :)
Amazing project. It looks stunning! Thank You.
Thankyou very much Sandra appreciate that, it’s a fun project to do. Thanks for watching its progression. 😊
Looking forward to your video - I recently ordered some shapes very similar. I'm a beginner, this certainly looks do-able 😊
Thanks so much Donna, they should make good fun projects for you to do. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
Very informative. Thank you!!! Just discovering your channel. I have subscribed!❤
Thankyou very much and appreciate you subscribing to the channel. Glad you enjoyed the video. ❤
Peter, thank you so much for all you do and how you teach. I love learning from you. One question: What is the size of this particular all chain that you are using? Sometimes I get so confused when ordering, and then the ball chain is so tiny it is not effective in my mosaics. Thank you. I don't know how to judge the sizes.
Thankyou and my pleasure Dee. The easiest way to judge the size is too order larger than the Tess you are using. Ball chain being round has a has a small surface area so if l am using say 3mm glass in my mosaic l will using around a 4 or 5mm ball chain. This allows the ball chain to sit proud of the Tess. The larger l go the more pronounced it will be in the mosaic. If l am working with a mixture of crockery and glass in a mosaic then l generally use the same formula but may increase to the next size of ball chain again, but in most cases the 4 or 5mm ball chain will be sufficient. If l am using Apoxie Sculpt to adhere the ball chain, l can also sit it in the Apoxie Scuplt so it sits a bit higher. To be more pronounced. I hope this helps you, 😊
@@TreasuryRoad Thank you so much for your time!
Hi Peter. Thank you. I just have a question, not related to this video. Can you buy Thinset in Australia, I haven't been able to find it here? Thanks you, by the way I love how your Gazing ball is coming along.
Thankyou so much June. Thinset is American terminology for cement based adhesive, this is what you need to ask for instead of thinset. Its available at Bunnings but I prefer to use the Laticrete brand which you can buy from tile stores or OzMosaics from their online store in QLD in smaller quantities. Mapei is another good brand just make sure its rated for the material that you are using and where its going because there are different types. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
Peter, thank you so much for your reply and information. Now I understand why I have been so confused😂. All a big learning curve, but we'll get there. 😅 Really appreciate your very informative videos. Thank again. 😊
My pleasure and apprecaite your kind thoughts. :)
Good to see you! I'm going to have to look to see if you have a video of how you store all of your tools. Mine are in tool boxes, but I have 3 of them and it's not very efficient. Thanks for the video!
Thankyou so much Tonya. I haven't made a video on storing tools, all my hands tools are just in a plastic box, keeps them all together and doesn't take up a lot of space. You can have them on a peg board if you have the room, I have done that with my garden tools. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
Where do you buy the tool kit you show opening the box?
Thats just a safety knife I bought at the hardware store, readily available and there is a different range of them and sizes. Thanks for watching. :)
A fascinating range. I thought the photoframes you sell would make great Christmas presents and there’s a good six months yet to make them! But I can see those little decorative shapes to put in planters will also be good to do for presents. Keep the ideas coming Peter!
I agree Wendy the pot plant stakes would be a great present or to sell at markets or in shops, they should be fun to do. Thanks for watching and for the support appreciate it. :)
Looking forward to your next videos using all these new items.
Thankyou so much Susan and thanks for watching. :)
After seeing this I think I should have gotten these instead of the Seabell Max Pro Compound Nippers that just arrived today since I only work with crockery (which sounds so much cooler than “dishes” here in the U.S.)
LOL I think crockery does sound cooler than dishes as well. lol The Seabell Scissors are good to use and are quite handy. I think where the big difference will come into it is the plate itself, the compound nippers can make short work of harder plates and in some cases more accurate nipping. I would not be surprised if you have both eventually and use them both to their advantages. Thanks for watching Karen and for commenting as well. :)
So difficult to find. I only need a 55x55cm piece for a gift l am making.
If you are in Australia this brand is readily available and in the size you mention. If you are overseas then Wedi Board is widely used and a similar product but its generally not available in this size but larger. Thanks for watching. :)
Wonderful demonstration.❤
Thankyou very much Lorraine appreciate that and thanks for watching. :)

Thankyou very much appreciate that. I was pleased with how it turned out and enjoy looking at it in the garden. Thanks again and thankyou for watching. :)
OMGOODNESS that clematis is out of this world! Thanks for your great content!
Thankyou very much, Its a fabulous Clematis, I have several different colours and they all look great in flower. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
Learning so much! Thank you. I’ve learned I’ve been leaving waaaaaayyy too much space between my design pieces! Your piece is spectacular!
Thankyou very much appreciate that. I like to have my tess very close together so as the grout does not impact the piece I am creating but that's just a personal choice. I have seen some wonderful pieces that have wider grout lines. Thankyou so much for watching and for commenting. :)
Do you know if they ship to USA? Or have a distributed in USA?
I don’t think they have a distributor in the USA and it would be very expensive to ship it there. You could use Wedi board which is a similar product, there are other similar lightweight boards in the USA as well. Thankyou for watching. 😊
Just found you on CZcams you are my new best friend. This should be fun.
Thankyou so much and welcome to the Treasury Road community, enjoy the videos. 😊
great video Peter - thank you!
Thankyou very much Michelle appreciate that and thankyou for watching. :)
You have air bubbles, how do you stop this
When I make these I don't get air bubbles in them unless you picked up on something that I didn't see.
Beautiful. I love it. Thank you for the suggestions about mosaic video. 👍👍
Thankyou very much Gizele and thankyou for watching. :)
Hi Peter! I’m contemplating purchasing these. Thanks for the great info! I’m trying to find the right running pliers that will allow me to break small strips of glass. Want to make strips for flower stems. I’m scoring the glass at a little wider than 1/8” but my dragon running pliers with rubber tips aren’t breaking very well. Would these work? Or maybe just the plastic Leponitts? Thanks so much!
Thankyou so much, if I am right 1/8" is just over 3mm which is very narrow even for the plastic Leponitt running pliers which I love. What comes into play is the length that you are trying to break and also the glass itself because some breaks easier than others. I cannot definitively answer that question because there are variables however you would have better luck with the Silberschnitt or the Leponitt Springed Running pliers which are smaller and narrower than most other running pliers. You may not get all good breaks but I would think the majority would be good. Both of these can be purchased from www.merlinmosaica.com Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
@@TreasuryRoad thank you so much! As usual you go above and beyond to help!! Much appreciated! 🤗
I am very inspired! Thank you for your great video.
Thankyou so much appreciate that and thankyou for watching. :)
Thanks!
Thankyou so very much Patricia, thats very kind of you, appreciate it. :)
I used Lexel (not very viscose) to glue TG to painted Wedi board. I am concerned about grout bleeding so I want to do a WB wash like you are showing. Wedi board is somewhat textured, plus the acrylic paint is somewhat textured. Would the WB be able to seal the tesserae underneath before I start grouting? Thank you for this video!
A weldbond wash is really suitable to glass on glass, anything with a texture just exacerbates the situation further especially when its Wedi board and acrylic paint. The best way is to adhere your pieces down correctly to avoid the need for a Weldbond wash which is another step and is not 100% successful all the time. Thankyou for watching and for your comment. :)
@@TreasuryRoad Thank you, perhaps I will continue with Mac glue which is more fluid and spread easier under the pieces!
