    Since I only use ONE DOS platform program, I found a bit simpler way to do this without using the automator. I used the “Command” + “Shift” + “.” (period) trick in Finder to show the hidden files. I found the default configuration file, and made the changes there. This way, the same setup is used for ALL DOSBOX apps, but since I use only one DOS app, this approach was the simpler solution. Thanks Michael! This video was a great help!

    Excellent.. I Just got a Mac and was looking for this....
    You just saved me all the grief of long file names.....And that crazy mouse capture. As on a Windows. You could just Alt tab out..And for those having issues. These folders names can not be bigger then 8 letters. So name your folder with that in mind...

    Mac OS X
    If you are using Mac OS X, a preferences file will be created for you on the first time you run DOSBox (as of version 0.73). This file contains the same system settings and initialization values as the dosbox.conf file on other systems.
    It can be found (and modified) at ~/Library/Preferences/DOSBox 0.73 Preferences, where ~/ is your user profile folder (usually /Macintosh HD/Users/username/). The exact folder name in the Finder may vary, depending on the language you use for OS X.

    After you first run DOSBox, go to the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder and open the newly created file DOSBox 0.74 Preferences. The exact folder name in the Finder may vary, depending on the language you use for OS X.
    By editing this file, you can set the system settings and initialization values that define your emulated environment. You can also add MOUNT commands to the AUTOEXEC section at the bottom of the configuration files, so that you do not have to type them in every time you start DOSBox.

    Thank you for the helpful video. I am trying to play MoO just as you are, but when I run the orion command it tells me I must run Install first, and that command seems to set you up to try to install it from floppy drives. Why did your orion command open the game, whereas mine seems to stick at me needing to install? Thank you so much. - Mike

    • @TheNerdIsIn
      @TheNerdIsIn  Před 2 lety +1

      The original game needed to be setup before it could be run. That way it knows what sound card you have..... run install from the dos prompt of the folder of the game and it writes a file called install.dat. Then you can run orion successfully. Tell it you have a sound blaster with the default settings since dosbox emulates a sound blaster.
      If you get the game from GOG.com... they use dosbox to run the game, but have already configured the game and they run it in full screen.

      Yes.. You can run any Dos game off an external drive or cloud..Just be sure to limit the folder name to less the 8. As Dos games were locked at 8.3 length..That being 8 letters then the extension..But as he showed you. Once you do that. Make a custom config file. So you don't have to type all the out every time you run it..Just make a short cut.

      You could get the name of the external drive by bringing up a terminal and using the command: ls /volumes
      Say my external drive is named Bubba and I have Orion on that drive:
