If tanking you should make a "Hello!" macro that does the o/
Then end it with something that turns on tank stance
Big brain.
thats a great idea! Especially for console since its a bit of a pain to write without a keyboard.
good idea 💡
As a healer main in FFXIV, mouse-over macros for healer skills are life. All I have to do is bring my mouse cursor over to the party member's name in the party window and bam, they're being healed and I haven't even switched targets. That was something I was taught in Heavensward and it still works today.
Example:
/micon "Cure"
/ac "Cure"
Similar to healbot, clique or, of course, mouseover macros in WoW, it sounds like. Been a Healbot boy for years myself. Surprisingly, I find healing with a gamepad super easy in this game, which makes me glad. I can do the nerd hunch when healing in WoW, and the slob slouch when healing in FFXIV. Soft-targeting (where you choose a target with the D-Pad, but don't hit the confirm button to properly "select" it, so you use a single ability on that target and it deselects it, like a sort of weird mouseover macro but for gamepads) is a godsend for this reason.
I find it kind of sad that FFXIV's default friggin' CONTROLLER healing is infinitely more usable (to me) than WoW's default KB&M healing UI, and I don't count mouseover macros as part of the default UI.
Sorry for the rant, just haven't really talked about this subject much.
Oh nice I tried to find a mouseover macro for my paladin skills
I just wonder, since a lot of people tell me macros are nice for healers, currently I only use a Macro for Instant Raise. But people told me as healer macros would blow my mind, did they may spoke of the mouse over macros?
I'm more a keyboard user and user F1-F8 for my heal targets and dont see the benefit of focusing to search for the player on the battlefield - or do i missunderstand these macros?
@@MrPetschko Mouseover also works with the party list (default towards the top left of the screen). I know some people who prefer to heal a focus target and have keybinds to set the focus target to their party members by number. The point is: use what works for you without sacrificing dps and healing ability.
Here's a tip for using macros that announce raise/invuln in party chat. Put your /ac in the second line before the /p line and add a at the end of the /ac line. That will allow you to spam the button to make sure it doesn't fail and it won't spam party chat because once you press the macro again it resets that 1s timer before the /p message goes out.
I need to use this lol
So ave the macroicon first, then , the skill itself, and then the /p?
@@cosmicneko7225
/Micon "Hallowed Ground"
/Ac "Hallowed Ground"
/P Hallowed ground used!
I actually didn't know this, thank you!
@@cosmicneko7225 I wouldn't recommend this as your putting a 1second delay on the ability itself, use the wait timer after the line that uses the skill and then after the wait timer you do the Party chat.
Back in storm blood; I ran into a dark knight that had a macro for dark arts; so the entire chat quickly filled with “Embrace the darkness!”
“Embrace the darkness!”

The screenshots were golden though.
My static DRKS done that to piss off our healer so he pmd me and i did it too for my F4s as a blm our healer was yelling and screaming at us it was funny

Just don't do it in savage or ex content, I don't pay attention to the chat anyways when I'm tanking

fallback to manual target for ground target macro if you're not focused on anything.
OMG I had it separately up on my wxhb. This is a life saver!
Saves you when you play with a controller.
i use the same thing for ninjas "gap closer" so if i want to get to someone(like the boss) fast i just click the macro, if i want to go somewhere where there is nothing (like escaping an AoE) i can just untarget and then click the macro to use it in the normal ground target way.
also there is a line, "/acerror" or something like that (maybe "off" too) that disables the "ability not ready yet" message you get when telling a macro to use the same ability twice like this.
@Amadox that is if your condensing multiple DIFFERENT abilitys into the same macro, since the order is not 100% perfect, but when modifying a ground targeted spell like this, it's no problem that i know of. which ever line triggers first you'll still use in on the target if you have one, or go into ground targeting mode if you don't have one, since your unlikely to be able to confirm a place on the ground before the other line triggers even if they go in the wrong order, and the ~0.5 internal cooldown dosent apply before you actually used an ability so it wont be a problem if all the lines refer to the same ability since you'll only cast it once before the cooldown starts.
@Amadox Sorry, haven't tried that since and normal ground targeting fill all my needs so far.
I guess you could make a macro like that, and then try it out a couple of times in some far-off deserted area and in a crowded city too see how reliable it is in low and high latency settings,..
Then again if you use , you can just have the mouse over the target/self (click-on-self might have to be enabled in settings for that to work) instead of having the or if its not reliable enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

The one DO that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned was: if you do use a macro with text that's specifically for when in battle, remember to add a /party or /p otherwise, it'll essentially type to your currently selected chat (FC, linkshells, etc.)
@MrHappy1227 on your final point, you can "/macrolock" to prevent a macro being overwritten (useful for raise macros)
I think macrolock also fixes skills being used at the same time happening out of order as well. (popping skills randomly in a macro instead of whichever one is available in order of the macro)
@@levinium I needed to know this. Thanks!
Did not know this.
Thank you! No more accidentally swiftcasting a heal on someone because you thought the raise went through already.
I personally think raise macros are HIGHLY underrated. Even a simple lets your potential co-healer/rdm/smn know you're raising so they don't do it at the same time.
Yeah, I've lost too many Swiftcasts on SMN, when I thought healers were too busy keeping others alive, only to see the raise effect just as I was about to push raise. Then healer dies just after Swift goes to cooldown and other healer has no mp to raise.
I used to macro my swiftcast to callout when it's used since Raise was the only thing I was using it for
This is the reason I'm watching this video. Once I saw other healers use those macros saying a fallen player's name, it helped me from raising the same ones and wasting Swiftcast.
@@amandoboop Same. I made a generic one and used it for all my raisers (WHM, SCH/SMN [can be identical, I believe], RDM, and AST [order I leveled them]). It's just too useful and the first time I saw someone use one, I was like "This is super helpful! I didn't blow Swiftcast! Huh, maybe I should make one of those..."
It also lets you have a little fun with Job flavor. I don't really play AST, but I love my AST one's message:
"/party ! I have read your fate from the Stars! Today is NOT the day you fall!! {Arise}!!"
Something about that one just gives me goosebumps. I've made a Job specific one for each of them since (I used to just use "/party C'mon, , ya gotta get up! {Raise}", which is the quote from Mickey Mouse in Kingdom Hearts 2 when he revives Sora if you get that to happen - I still use this one for RDM), but none of them feel so damn epic as the AST one. Which is sad considering that's the healer/reser I actually play the absolute least and only just got to 80 recently. XD
For real. I wish everyone used raise macros so I wouldn't waste my swiftcast on nothing.

AST Macros: Buff Notification/Useful Warnings or A Full Episode of Yu-Gi-Oh in one dungeon run. Hmmm! :3
I've done worse than the latter and made one seem like half of a season with an EX trial. I've moved on from that.
my favorite healer macro for my direct heals and esuna is.
/macroicon "spell"
/ac "spell"
/ac "spell"
/ac "spell"
This causes the spell to go off on whoever im mousing over first even mousing over names of people in other alliance raid groups. This allows me to keep the boss targeted to see what abilities they are casting while also healing / removing debuffs.
If I dont have anyone moused over it will go off on my target. You can also hold down right shift to disable mousover completely causing it to prioritize target. Now if i dont have a target or someone moused over it will cast it on me instead.
There are things you must be cautions of though with this set up. Ive had it decide i wasn't mousing over someone when i was and it instead cast the spell on me. So use at your own risk. But Ive had it be rather efficient for me in the long run.
This is me for healing. Cheers! Mouseover macros always a must for me when healing.
I find that on Bard the macro /ac "Nature's Minne" can be quite useful, was at least last expansion. means you use the ability on your target's target. When you're focusing the boss this is in most cases the main tank which is convinient when they are about to tale a solid beating.
For Dark Knight the target macro for Salted Earth is good but doe a target instead.. works wonders and prevents you from having to place it manually on big targets that you can't use the macro on.
When I play a healer, I love to use mouse over targeting macros for my healing spells. It makes transitioning from healing to damage to healing again almost instant, I can just leave my mouse on the main tank in the party list and never untarget the boss, and if I need to adjust, I just need to move my mouse up or down very quickly. It makes healing to be very efficient for me.
My FC leader showed me these and I absolutely love using them. I find them to really save a lot of extra time when i need to do a clutch heal or two. The only downside is that I cant target myself with it, but I fixed it by just turning on my party list on the side.
As a healer who plays on controller, no macros required, you just hit left/right on d-pad to toggle between aggro targets then hit O to go back to healing the tank.
@@Rivenroads
This can easily be fixed by adding a on the third line like so:
/micon "spell"
/ac "spell"
/ac "spell"
This will allow you to throw out a spell on a mouseover target, but if you haven't mouseovered anyone, it'll throw the spell out on yourself instead 😊
wait how do you do this? this sounds like something I need to try!
Another great macro is:
/ac Superbolide
/statusoff Superbolide

I was 14.

Dean Woods Ah yes, another sin eater.
I was also 14 in FF11, and it was unacceptable even then. You must atone for your sins.
As someone who plays on ps4 with controller, and wound up being the group's healer for a long time, I made a macro button that swaps to focus target (usually the MT). It's much faster and much more responsive than pressing the up/down directional buttons to try and select the player who's tanking for a faster heal/esuna/barrier.
It's also decent for when you have an enemy that moves around, as you'll instantly target them so long as they're your focus target, and can get back to DPS'ing.
/target
I play with a controller, and I've only heavily used macros during Stromblood when we could only have 5 of the cross-role actions set. I had macros that let me quickly swap between them. I also used to have a macro on Paladin in early Stormblood that had like 3 off-GCD defense buffs because Paladin suffered from massive skill bloat, but when they gave the jobs full access to the cross-role actions I got rid of it since I had to use a third cross hotbar to fit them all anyways.
Oh shoot I’m bad, I didn’t even know you could place ground aoes with the command... my life has been way more complicated than it should’ve been.
one thing i really like with ground macros is to add a second line with the regular action, so if you dont have anything targeted it will bring up the mouse placement thing anyway
its really good for pets too
jaj145 you don’t have to add a second line. If you have no target selected, it will default to the ground target reticle.
As a controller player the only macros I have are for the ground AOEs and target for Skirk and other tank cooldowns for off-tanking. The latter is especially important for tank switches and shields and you’re not fumbling in the party menu ever.

I would have like you going over the tank shared mitigations, like heart of stone on targets target. That kinda thing c:. But I like this vid, I don't use em but I didn't know about the crafting ones.... I uh... May have a crafter at 80 by the end of today now.... Ahem...
To expand on the macro for ground target AOEs, back when Shadowflare was a thing (rip) I would use a + macro. This is useful for bosses like Cloud of Darkness that have gigantic hotboxes or have their hotbox centers off a targetable surface. That macro allows for targeting of the boss first, but if it fails, it will then target the target of the boss ( = target of target) and typically place the ground aoe right under the tank. I don't recommend this for defensive bubbles, but it's quite useful for salted earth, etc. is also quite useful for certain targeted defensive abilities that you want on the target that is being attacked, so you don't need to swap off the boss.
Maybe mentioned (if so, added for emphasis), but some more tips:
-You can use the autotranslate function instead of typing "action" . This really helps with oddly worded skills or really long ones and prevents mistypes, also you don't need the parenthesis anymore.
-For healing (under a majority of circumstances) I use a macro for dpsing or putting up dots. That way I don't have to untarget my tank, but I can still get in some dps.
-For skills used on other players (Mainly use these while tanking): I'm not a big fan of mouseover (just how I play), but I do use a party order , etc, for shields. Like Cover and Intervention (PLD) or Blackest NIght (DRK) that way all I have to do is hit a key to trigger the effect on someone without clicking on the party list and taking my attention off the boss (or whatever my main target is)
I use similar, but I use focus target, then focus on the tank, so I'm always hitting whoever the tank is hitting.
Then I can tab around the targets, dropping dots, n bounce right back to dealing dps to the main target everyone is aiming at
one macro i like using for dark knight is popping Blackest Night on my target's target. if i'm main tank, that's me. if i'm off tank, that's the MT.
/ac "The Blackest Night"
it's been really useful in keeping my blackblood up and keeping whoever's main tanking alive through tankbusters
Now that's an idea I like.
I just learned how to do that, and it is so helpful. And I get to capitalize off of tank busters whether I’m MT or OT
Due to my physical disability I just using healing macro's. As dps I don't need any. I've 8 heal macro's which are almost the same as a healer, but thanks to this I can heal easily the player which needs to be healed by clicking on the correct button without losing target on the boss or mt. Also for raise I ve a macro with swiftcast + raise, and it targets the first death player in row. I ofc have also the normal raise on my actionbars aswell as the healing skills as backup. All this makes me a pretty decent healer who can keep the group alive (most of the times). I also am a Warrior, a Red Mage and a Bard atm, I try to learn as much as I can and use only macro's which are helpfull for me.

You should always spam the action in the macro so it has more chance to go off, for example instead of 1x /ac salted earth , you can put 8 lines of that so it queues 8 times within the ogcd slot
I macro buffs but only in twos and only certain ones so I still have a level of control and not get hurt by latency. Or like the Dragonsight one, to either pick amongst the party list or mouseover so I don't have to click off a target. Also have a few for my tanks for things like Cover and that other party skills where it uses my target's target so if I'm off-tanking I can bubble someone or if picking up an add or aggro issues I can potentially protect and/or save a non-tank from dying.
One thing I'd suggest, when playing a healer, is to have a macro for your attack spells to use them while targeting your tank, if they're taking enough damage that you need to keep an eye on them.
/ac "Spell"
You can still DPS this way without having to change your target or focus, and you're guaranteed to hit the one your tank is wailing on.
Depends on the healer though, SCH barely has any DPS skills now (most where removed) The only healer that would be dps really is WHM now.
@@shea5304 That is false. having little DPS skills does not mean DPS is not being done. 80% of the time im casting broil in a good party in EX trials for example because there's nothing to heal.

I do have an interesting question for folks out there and the mention of macros being used by handicapped players.
First, a bit of background info: my mother has had multiple surgeries in the past and has what we casually call 'anesthesia brain', which has made it both difficult for her to remember the effects of some of her bard skills, as well as severely affecting her reaction time. That, combined with surgeries on her hands and her inability to use a mouse with added buttons on it for efficiency, has made partaking in fight and dungeons nearly impossible for her. It's hit her a bit hard because she truly loves this game, but has become very self-conscious because of her inability to do well in most later dungeons.
My question to you all is, do you think, in her case, macros that condence a series of skills together would help her? Allow her to focus solely on avoiding AOEs while the macros themselves do most of the skill work?
Of course, she'll not be running any savage raids or whatnot, and her damage wouldn't be the best, but just something that may allow her to do, say, a leveling or trial roulette.
Of course! If you need to do this to play, it's absolutely fine. And as you said, she's not gonna be doing savage raids so being optimal in DPS isn't an issue. If it helps her play/ enjoy the game, then she should.
I actually know of a macro that puts someone's rotation all on 1 button. There is not a loss of DPS either, since instead of executing different skills 1 by 1, it actually cycles the skills onto 1 button, allowing YOU to press them, therefore activating the skill-queue. if you're interested in it let me know!

I play on the JP datacenter and I freaking love the fight macros. Makes things so simple when PUG-ing EX/Savage content.
As a healer the two macros I use the most are 1.) Swiftcast then Rez
and 2.) Target of target for my offensive spells . Makes it so I can stay selected on the tank/party member and throw stones at enemies. Only issue is woth some fights where the foe I'm targeting is targeting something else. In those I have to target a party member in order to do damage to what I want to target.
The second point in hat one is to add a of the same skill in the line above so you never have to worry about when you have nothing to target. I actually use the same technique on my healers, since I can't easily select targets on a controller.
If you're crafting many items, I tend to hit the macro before the Synth window has opened, so the first macro command may be missed. Put a 1-2 second wait at the start of the macro, then you can hit synthesize and then the macro immediately without waiting for the window to open.

Couple macros I have on my bars:
- Next to the party list, Cover through , positioned so that in an emergency I can just click the Cover icon next to someone's name and it'll Cover that person
- Shirk so it'll target the other tank
Neat idea
One macro I know I have used in the past was the (Target of Target) Macro for my healers. Its not 100% but it allows you to stay on you person you are healing (most likely the tank) and cast DMG spells on their Target. While this has a draw back of if the person you are targeting has no target = no spell casts. Its hit or miss but was really useful for me when I was healing periodically in Raids from 2.X-4.X (not a HC Raider) Prob isn't needed as much anymore however just thought its something I would bring up.
i have two separate heart of stones on my bar one normally for targeting myself and one to target the main tank as a macro would you recommend? just makes it easier for me to dps the boss
I would say thats fine i have a similar one for Intervention on paladin that always targets party slot 2 which is always the other tank (or healer in dungeons)
27InvisibleKid I used to use the same thing a lot with The Blackest Night and it was really useful.
@@Divineboots this may be a terrible question but do you think itll work with cover as well
@@kennethcunningham2572 ya it will work with cover but i still prefer to cover manually cuz sometimes its not the tank that needs it
@@Divineboots thx for the help you're the best, i planned on having two covers one manual and one auto target
Continuation macro!? That ruins the fun imo on GNB!!!!
agree
I main DRK and probably my most useful macro is /ac “The Blackest Night” to help my co-tank. Also, my salted earth macro is set as /ac Salted Earth instead of so that I’m pretty much dead center and hits anything near.
Thank you for being a huge part in finally discovering why I cannot reach the machinist dps rotation.
You can use /macrolock in the macro to prevent a macro from interrupting another macro
I have a macro called "cancel" and all it does is an /echo to cancel my ongoing macro... use it for crafting.
@@Kupogirl Same. I also have an with it so that it makes a sound when I cancel it.
And yet the game clearly has the ability to properly set up attack chains as a single button as shown when it makes you play as Thancred in his gunbreaker class. A similar option for actual player characters without using macros would be fantastic.
That would make the game incredibly boring very fast.
Pvp also does this. At least in stormblood it did. I havent touched pvp since the start of stb.
@@magnedeusfenrir9582 I dont see how hitting 3 buttons in the same sequence every time for each combo is any more or less boring than hitting a single button for each different combo.
@@TurboNemesis Given how damage rotations and encounters are designed in FFXIV, you would be able to macro entire boss fights. This would literally kill the endgame.
2 high value macro types that I use as a tank: First the macro for skills like shirk/intervention/nascent Flash. This macro will make it so that your skill that you're pressing will always apply to whoever is number 2 in your party (in 8 man content this is always the co tank which is why it works)
/micon "Shirk"
/ac "Shirk"
/ac "Shirk"
/ac "Shirk"
(Max out all 15 lines of this, to ensure that the skill fires since, as mr.happy stated, macro's ignore the games queuing system)
the other one: the Target of Target macro this macro makes it so you don't have to drop target to apply an ability to a desired member, in this case I put it on Aurora because it's a nice regen for whoever is tanking the boss/add what have you because it applies to the target of the enemy whether that be you/the other tank/a party member.
/ac "Aurora"
/ac "Aurora"
/ac "Aurora"
/micon "Aurora"
and Finally a nice, niche meme one: This is the weapon glow glitch ;D use this simple 2 line macro to glitch glowing weapons so that they glow while sheathed
/bm
/sit
I macro Nature's Minne to always target the tank with (target of target since I will always be targeting the enemy), but sometimes it lags a little so I suppose or could be used if you always have tanks on top of the party list.
SWTOR at one point introduced a feature that let you "cast" GTAoE spells a second time after enabling the target marker to have them pop up on the current target. That was the best change they ever made to the game, and something I sorely miss in XIV every time Sacred Soil gets stuck to the mouse.
RIP Shadowflare indeed :(
for salted earth.
/ac salted earth
/ac salted earth
this is useful for if you run into a boss that is off the platform, wont work, but if you have right after, if the fails, it will just drop it on you. same button, 2 functions.
I admittedly used a combat combo macro and my biggest complaint with it was when I'd execute it if I was trying to run out of an AOE it'll still try executing it, turning you back around towards the enemy so youd have to turn around again, more often than not ending up getting hit by the AOE.
One macro I love using when doing single target content is the Caster LB .
does someone have the macro to Channel Dragonsight with a party member, I lost mine.
I like to use a party list target macro.
/ac "Dragon Sight"
It will target the 5th person in your party list. You can also use to target someone you have focus targeted.
@@haroldoacevedo1648 just or ?
@@freyavaleria21 just 5
Be warned, tho, that with the change to Dragon Sight that allows you to use it without a target, this macro is prone to failing quite often. Sometimes it will just cast DS on yourself while ignoring the . Hate to say it, but you may have to spend some time practicing quick targeting a party member.
This mine for focus target
/macroicon "Dragon SIght"
/macroerror off
/target
/ac "Dragon Sight"
/targetlastenemy
Only time I ever use shirk is in raid or extreme trial content that requires a tank swap. So I have my shirk set to do it on as the other tank will always be the second party member. That way I never have to click off the boss to effectively tank swap.
I do the same for when I tank.
Wow didnt know you can macro party list numbers... I'm gonna start using this.
Please share the macro :)

What is Tank swapping? I'm new to Tanking.
One of the worst macros I had to deal with was a Black Mage cast spamming Blizzard 3 in Palace of the Dead where it would say "Stay cooled off!" or something over and over and over in the chat.
so bit of a silly question, brand new to macros and i want to create one for my healer when i'm raising someone. how do i write the command so party chat gets the notice?
I use a dragon macro that sets the eye buff to either party position 4,2,3 or me in that order.
Could you be so kind as to link me your macro? I'm using a mouseover one but yours seems more handy.
sounds rather bad for raiding unless you have some weird party sorting going on, cuz otherwise you'd be giving to tanks and healers over dps.
@@SpydersByte you can change the party order depending on role. For example, as a DPS, all the dps classes are top, then tanks, and then Healers, while as a Healer, Tanks are on top, DPS and then healers. So for me, like the OP, my Dragon Sight macro targets all the first 4 positions who are always DPS because of my party list sorting settings.
My favorite tank one is a shrink macro:
/Micon "shirk"
/Ac "shirk"
This will target the second person in the party list, which if you haven't changed it at all, will be the other tank
yea, this is one of the very, very few macros I use, along with viel and immunity callouts.
I only macro movement abilities. For example, I've got Shukuchi macro'd to R3 (right stick click on controller, Macro #99 by default) since I aim it with that stick anyway. I've got it set with both regular use and with in the same macro so that I can move to a target immediately or free aim if I choose. Additionally, I put all of my job movement abilities into this one macro (Elusive Jump, Between the Lines, Repelling Shot, Corpse a Corpse, En Avant, etc)and it will only function for my current active job. I just start the macro with /merror off so that it doesn't keep telling my job can't use the other abilities. It works great.
Okay so I have a specific issue do to my keybinds. Because of my keybinds I can't keybind anyting to Target specific party members like Target party member 2 or Target party member 3. And I'm thinking about healing soon which those types of targeting abilities makes feeling just a little bit easier so my question is is there any downside shoe making a macro to Target party member to or Target party member 3 and that's it?
I should macro my Salted Earth. I am atm just often to lazy to place it, since I play with controller.
ShinjiPrismriver True
It's seriously helpful on controller. Placing any of the ground AoEs is a pain with one.
DRK main on controller here, too. I just started using this macro for Salted Earth and Asylum like a week ago. It's a huge improvement.
I've been meaning to do it to. I also play on controller :D
Another controller player, but I don't use any macros for that stuff. It's easy enough to bump the right stick to place the bubbles. Only macros I use are raise macros with a callout, & pet summon macros (though I'm doing away with those after the ShB pet skill changes). I've also been experimenting with some dragon sight target macros, but so far they've been pretty unreliable.
Adding a shirk macro for makes tank swap mechanics sooooo much easier, provided you prioritize tanks at the top of the party list.
This is a good idea! Thanks!
That what /partysort is for. Good Call!
yup, thats what i do, i main WAR so i also use the same macro for Nascent Flash with a option as well in case it needs to go on someone else
I did this recently too. It's so annoying to have to target a party member using controller.
@@TheMetallicalf I've added a blackest knight to my hot bar almost entirely because of innocence and how often I need to assist new healers. 🤣 (I main healer, but have been trying to gear up a tank on the side for savage content)
Is the macro
/ac Staight Shot
/ac Heavy Shot
Good? Since it will use straight if it’s available and heavy otherwise?
I like having "Target nearest enemy" on my Doom Spike (DRG melee AoE), because losing a target when fighting a bunch of grouped enemies sucks.
Also will have to look into what kind of Dragon Sight macro I can make to make it as bearable as possible. (would rather not use the mouse-over one)
"Don't add anime quotes-"
aw shit that's a good idea
6:45 I will now proceed to macro each and every single one of my skills to constantly spam Anime quotes.
ive done this with fire 4 lol, EXPLOSION!
@@Kirianda sounds like you just used fire 4 on the chat
So since the priority is random (didn't know that) are and then trigger without a target a really really bad idea? How often would that fail? 'Cause I have like 5 in total of those for the 3 healers and 3 for the tanks, and while I did not notice it fail before (other than my mouse accidentally being atop my not intended target) but this kind of scares me off a bit, so I want to know how bad it is before I grow reliable on them... they are very comfy though 😞
hey MrHappy, i got a question.. do you switch hotbars during fights??
Should I not use macros for healing?
I would absolutely despise healing if I didn't use macros. Most of the time you're using oGCD heals anyway so it's not cutting into the efficiency of your DPS.
personally as a healer, just getting used to hitting the F1-F8 keys to choose the party member is faster, and the game is slow enough that you have plenty of time to target someone in between GCDs. setting a main target key so you can always be casting your offensive spells, then quickly selecting a party member and throwing an oGCD heal at them or a hard GCD heal at them is fairly fluid once you learn how to target party members directly, rather than fumbling with your mouse and click selecting will save you a lot of headache.
of course, do whatever works for you. if using helps you cast asylum or similar helps you in some way, i'm not your boss.
@@ElseeKay I disagree that it's faster. I think it's about the same but requires more actions. So you're doing more work in the same amount of time. Which if you're okay with is fine, specially if you're used to it. But keeping tank on focus, boss targeted and using macros is probably the least amount of work you can do.
mo is faster if you look more to the screen. most of my friend and me myself see the partylist more than the screen tbh so if you have numpad using numpad and getting back to target with tab is the faster way to go.
@@anotaku77 In this instance I would be talking about over party members on the party screen. Trying to target a member in the field would be very unreliable.
I have a "spam" macro for almost every dps class. Mch has reassemble/drill/air anchor/ricochet/gauss round (i think that's it) in it.
My HW Ninja had a ~9 skill spam macro that included an entire opener, hide/teleport/trick attack/mug(and whatever other instants)/and some other shit in it that no longer exists, ending with the poison debuff. It worked incredibly well and I had other high level ninjas asking me how I was doing my opener so quickly.
I know exactly how inefficient it is, and I do it anyway. Don't tell my static, nobody knows I'm one-button spamming my way through everything.
Shame
does anyone know the "Ash10 crafting is dead" page he referred to? Couldn't find anything by that name or similar.
Is there a problem with macroing a couple of abilities that are just entirely off GCD and a situation where I don't care which ability goes off? MCH for example has a few off GCD attacks and in situations where I don't care which goes off is it fine to macro them together?
I ask because I have small hands and have trouble hitting anything beyond 6, so shift/ctrl 1-5 and 1-6 is all I can really do along with q and e, and it sounds like alotta buttons but I find myself pretty strapped for space for certain essentials.

Been a long time since I played WoW and I’ve long since forgotten how, but I remember being able to set a macro where I could add a quote that would trigger occasionally. Is there any way to do this in FFXIV? I’ve never minded quotes but it’s annoying when you go through a dungeon and some pally quoting naruto every time on short cooldowns.
I like adding them to trigger like 1/3rd or 1/5th of the time when using a cooldown upwards of 90 seconds.
Thank you for acknowledging people with disabilities who play this game! It's very nice to be seen. ^.^
Raise macros with disparaging responses or quotes is my biggest pet peeve in 14's chat. Thanks, healer(s), I know I died for x or y reason, and yes, it is embarrassing, so you don't gotta make dying feel worse.
I like the cute and meaty messages if there's so sound alert attached in pugs. It catches my eye so I don't use my Swift cast. What I hate more than the "ha ha" messages are the ones that bury the targets name in the insults. Great! You're a dick and I still all unclear on who you raised!
As a healer, my Macro is pretty simple, "The Power of Moogles compells you ". I don't like the macros that go "Yall ded" but I do find dragoon-specific macros mildly amusing...
@@petalmagic8391 It's usually worse because I am a Dragoon main lol. At least you have a cutesy revive quote, that's way better than myriad "Of course the DRG died, again," because you know they have specific macro buttons for certain jobs
Oh, and there's also a good collectible gathering macro as well, for good applications for them. I use it all the time.
A fun macro I use for provoke uses so it announces who I am pulling the agro from. It ends up saying the enemy's name before it says the player name.
So I listened to the latest State of the Realm at work today, and from what I gathered this video is a tutorial for how to make helpful macros for your party. Let me see if I got this right.
/ac "Summon Eos"
/p "Please, Eos, I need you!"
and /ac "Summon Seraph"
/p "O loveliest of branches, please grant me your succor!"
Then press the key a bunch of times to make sure the ability goes off, right? :P
Pretty please don't use sound effects for that.
Those macros are pretty unnecessary and just annoys your group.
I love the macros. For those who dont know you can set a attack skill to target your targets target. So let's say your on Sch, you can set your broil to target the PLD target, aka the boss most times. This prevents you from having to untarget the tank and DPS between healing. I know for myself I sometimes forget to switch back and the tank drops super low then I'm scrambling to get them healed back up to safe levels.
Salted earth is not working for me. The icon does not show and the spell does not even work when i use it in a macro! HELP!
My Excog and Fae Union are macroed with . Very helpful for single tank healing. BE VERY CAREFUL though.
- Since 5.0 allowed Excog to be placed on the caster, if you are targetting the tank instead of the enemy, it will put excog on you.
- Same deal with Fae Union. It will put Fae Union on you if you’re not careful.
It’s got its downsides but fairly useful for me at least.
