For everyone in the replies who hasn’t read the books, no, the books don’t LITERALLY say “this song by Billie plays in Sophie’s head” as she’s doing something. The character of Sophie in the books just embodies the song and it’s lyrics so well, due to her confidence and ego throughout the books, that whenever fans made edits of the characters online, this would literally be one of the most chosen songs to put over the edit. So it’s ironic it’s here for something so official like a Netflix clip of her from the movie 😂
I do hope after this clip, they take out the music and show Sophie from everyone else's perspective. It'll take us out from Sophie's perspective and let us see how kinda embarassing it actually is 😭

Just wanted to say-Sophie is a classic drama Queen. She has probably envisioned a dramatic entrance dozens of times before. In my eyes, this scene is almost from her perspective, from her narcissistic (and yes, cheesy) perception of herself.

@@julioaugusto1529 Oh don’t worry, when she does act evil evil, it truly is something terrifying because she has no limit and really does some gruesome things, and sometimes for the most petty reasons. It’s just when she’s NOT being all evil, her character is ridiculous at times (which is sometimes used to her advantage because then people underestimate her). This clip in particular is one of her most ridiculous and over the top moments in the first book😂 but yeah, she can get actually scary, for example drowning someone because they hurt her or towards the end killing all the animals you see in the clip by slitting their throats with birds, and it kinda only gets darker as the series goes on.

I am one who experiences second-hand embarrassment a lot, but I loved this scene. It's probably because I imagine myself having these dramatic kind of entrances a lot, but know I'll never experience it. I'd never have enough confidence or reasoning.
Sophie changing Evil’s image, teaching Nevers to be confident/beautiful, and fighting for Nevers to have “good” things in their lives is such an underrated theme/plot in the books. I hope it’s established more in the movie!
It really is! It’s such a good small moment in the books! Especially when they all started standing up for each other and rioting against the school and its teachings in the clearing 😂😂 it was wonderful!

I'm so impressed with the costuming in the movie so far... in the books they wore uniforms so they could have easily saved money and had everyone wearing the same thing, but they really went above and beyond.

I hope they weigh in on that small bit from the books where she made them feel empowered, emotionally, and they start to stand up for themselves and defend each other and feel confident in their villainy! I definitely cringed at this, but I remember that Sophie was like this. She's supposed to be dramatic and over the top. I don't like that the coven is excited to get makeovers, in the books they were way more hostile, especially Hester. But this could be the part where they start to do everything Sophie says, but I don't think they'd go that far. Idk how I feel about this. Also Anadil's supposed to have like no emotion, so it's weird to see her screaming with joy about getting a new outfit from Sophie.
I mean l agree, their actors are fine but they could've atleast kept their personalities, it would've been funny asf to see Anadil just getting her finger stabbed and not mind it 💀

I will say if Anadil is the dark skinned girl the personality change may be for the stereotype dark skinned people, specifically Black women, don't have feelings or feel as much physical pain. Ik sounds stupid but that last part of the stereotype is STILL taught in medical schools

She is as over the top and embarrassing here as she is in the books (even more so in the books) and it’s not supposed to necessarily be taken seriously. There are plenty of moments later in the book where you can take her seriously.

I just love the attention to detail in this, especially how Lady Lesso is basically pricking the finger glow activation thingy to the Nevers and Professor Dovey is gently placing the thing on the Evers’ fingers. Just shows their characters so much, and how they help Sophie and Agatha become the Witch and Princess they are meant to be. Lesso changed Sophie with harshness, by putting her in the doom room and threatening her literally with an axe on her neck while Dovey kindly and gently encourages Agatha and actually help her in making her beautiful and more confident in herself. Got to love the attention detail in this scene.

@@dwilson6769 No, the family of our protagonist are really minor characters who will only appear in the beginning of the movie and the scenes which has them has almost nothing to do with the plot of the movie. This movie is about Sophie, a girl who always wears pink, she always dreamt to get taken away to The School For Good where she will learn how to be a princess and Agatha, who the village thinks will be the person selected to go to the School For Evil where she will learn how to be stronger and become a villain. Little did they know, a few things are going to happen that will surprise them, especially Sophie. In these two schools, both Sophie and Agatha are going to be thought on how to survive their fairytales and the both of them will be thought and will get a few extra help to realize that they are not meant to be who they think that should be. So basically, this movie will be about the friendship of our two protagonists and how it is tested through a lot of different situations.

Edit: This movie is about two girls surviving in a completely different and unknown world to them because the rest of their classmates have been living in the world of fairytales, (like they’re the kids of some fairytale parents like Snow White for example.) but this kinds of stuff aren’t really a huge part of the plot, they’re like for the readers/watchers to know a bit about them and where they come from while both Sophie and Agatha had zero idea that this world even existed (this is what is going to be happening in the movie btw, not the book from looking at all the trailers.)
For sure!!! I saw those tiny details the actors added in putting the keys in their fingers and it was such a good tightly done thing to add!! Like the attention to details like that shows just how much they know their characters and want it to be known to the audience through even the smallest details! It’s brillaint!! I’m so happy such care is being placed into this story and these characters!! They are perfect for these roles!!! I’m so happy we are getting such good character attention and development from even the slightest detail! It’s perfect and just like SGE! 😁😁 I’m so happy!!! This is truly going to be a phenomenal adaptation if they do it with this much detail and care towards the characters!
I’m interested to see Netflix’s perception of these books, this series was one of my childhood favourites and I still really love the first book after all this time. It’s amazing to see all the characters on-screen and I really love the way they are conveying Sophie’s narcissistic attributes and perspective of herself.
even though it's pretty small in the books, the finger glow was still one of my favorite things. I'm kind of annoyed because it seems like they decided to only make sophies figure glow red because she is evil when lore-wise Hester's finger glow is also supposed to be red... Agatha is supposed to be orange and sophies when shes first unlocked her finger glow is supposed to be hot pink.
I think Sophie's kind if looks pink in the trailer especially at 1:37 but that could just be due to the color of her hand. I do wish they had still given everyone the different colors though.

You’re right, It doesn’t look great. I’m a ‘03 kid, and I was a boom worm. Surprisingly I never read this series. Maybe if I was a fan I would be eating this up. The Sisters Grimm ended up being the book series I read that was a “fairytale retelling”. Besides that it was Percy Jackson, Spiderwick , The Land of Elyon and etc.

i literally thought the exact opposite, I've been waiting for this for years and now that it is finally out it looks cheap and the acting of the girl who plays Sophie looks awful, so disappointing.
You know, I’ve never heard of these books, but I kind of liked the trailer and the idea that I saw in it for this film (though I’m not sure that the movie would even try to exploit any interesting idea at all, because come on, it’s Netflix, they usually throw the initial idea of the source material out of the window). And in the trailer I liked most of the moments where actors were shown. I also liked the actress for Sophie. But this… I agree, this particular clip seems cheap, like no powerful person doesn’t act so in the real life (for example, walking so… brutally, I don’t know). Well, I mean, you see that it is not natural, that it is an act, and not like purposeful act of the character who tries to seem confident by design, but the act of the actor who tries to play the character realistically (I don’t know how to explain it any other way, sorry). So now I don’t even know if this film would be any good and not just a beautifully arranged circus. I hope it’ll turn out all right though, but my expectations are at the minimum.
@@Alexandra-yi8cg The characters intimidating moment come later 🙂 very suddenly and very frighteningly! This is as it exactly is, over the top and silly, which DOES fit the character just as much 😂 This scene is perfectly meant to show that! And it does! It kind of makes her seem silly to the point where her later actual terrifying scenes REALLY scare you because she does an almost 180 in how she acts. The books really are beautiful so if you get the chance to read them, I truly think you should! 😊

I think the music was just for this clip! I don’t think it’s actually apart of this scene in the official movie, simply because they overlaid the song with multiple clips.

so basicly the whole time she was like this princess who got put in a school for evil people instead of good and in this scene she's imbracing her evil side for the first time in contrast to her being all innocent and pure til this moment
For me, everything started to make sense. Definitely not watching, blonde girl looks too annoying to handle and people need to stop excusing lousy writing by saying "she was just like that in the books".

They train them because they have to carry on the legacy of the fairytales. If they don’t do this then the stories will start to change and the magic may be exposed to the normal world.
Same with Harry Potter? They have a whole house of evil servants of Voldemort. And they train them to be strong and powerful so they can help Voldemort take over the world

Actually this story is brilliant in its concept and ideas. Out of the box. I like when one of the main characters said: "I'm a human." because that's what it mean human is good and evil together (the last scene where goods and evils together at the ball). Like Argatha said: "human is complicated..."
