- Based on the book by Dan Simmons who took a supernatural horror like take on the actual infamous Franklin Expedition, The Terror sets an example for horror/thriller television that all should adhere to.

That's what happens when you have GREAT writing and great actors. It goes from horror and the very worst of human behaviour to believable heroism so seamlessly.
The man bear pig doesn't look scary, but the show and writing makes it terrifying
This show is very unique but I wouldn't called it as a "horror" movie genre. This show is more of a drama/thriller.
Season 2 says otherwise
It's crazy how no one mentions the score of these kind of shows. The score is so good that you barely realize it has one and IMO that's what makes it great. For those who love scores like I do, these songs really make the scenes what they are.
I just finished the show on Netflix, I binged it over a few days and it was fantastic.
Was I the only one that had to watch this whole series with subtitles? Without subtitles I would have been screwed.😂 it was an amazing show hands down a much watch if your a fan of Taboo.
Björn Blünder most amazing part about this was that amc made this series. I would never have thought they would sink this much money into a historical drama that they new it wouldn’t bring in as much money as let’s say a teen drama or cop show. But they still made the show with a lot of historic informational and a+ acting.
Aubrey Crowder I watch almost everything with captions on. Sometimes I feel like I can’t understand what people are saying correctly and I have to know. But what’s weird is I notice on many shows there are lines that fit with the scene, but the actors never say them, as if they were cut but they submit the script for captions? I don’t know, some apps are worse than others. I haven’t watched this show, I was curious so I’m checking out a review.
I discovered the captions thing years ago with Office Space. I’ve had so many copies of that movie. On accident I bought a Spanish VHS once so I had to watch it on subtitles, but it was awesome because for the first time I could understand everything Milton was saying about his stapler 😂
Same here! I tried without subtitles and the volume up pretty loud and still had to rewind and put the subtitles back on
I watched it all twice within a week, I love it, there so many things to miss that rewatches are still just as good.
I have just watched it and the only thing I can say is 'Absolutey perfect'. Everything is excellent and the performances are outstanding, it is clear that the British are excellent at making films like this one. I would give it 10 out of 10.
I’d give it an 11 out of 10! This was the best miniseries I’ve ever come across and though it’s got a bit of that added horror it really doesn’t need it because it’s a damn horrifying scenario for its actual facts!
I just finished the season and I'm so blown away. I stumbled upon it by chance and never looked back! Have you heard about the 2nd season coming out I'm 2019?
Yeah I thought that was a joke at first because the book ends basically on the exact same note. But then I saw that it takes place in a totally different area with different characters so kind of like another version of AHS
You are right the suspense and superb acting is what made the series. The sounds, the lighting, the looks of the crew and the building doom they all know is coming. Those who complain it was to slow are the types that read the ending of a book b4 they have turn over the first page. The instant gratification types, who lack patients. As for the crew side stories, yes I know what you mean but those stories all tied in at the end as their true loyalties came out. It also actually made me want to watch it again and pay more attention to them.
Jim Wind same here except I got the audio book. Both have different ish endings but both are pretty good.
My only gripe is that occasionally it’s very apparent that the ice is a set, but that’s super minor and 80% of the time it looks amazing
Thanks for the review and making my plans for an evening!
Enjoy it! It's a great watch!
Good series, but the last episode was lame and made with a lot of pros and cons about the series. Therefore, thanks for the advise!
P.S. Any chances to see Taken review 10 years ago? :)
Єжі Рудь in 2009 yeah
Great review, some of the TV Shows I've tried out after finishing GoT were always somewhat underwhelming and I was glad to have stumbled upon this show by luck. Some viewers weren't much pleased with the monster's appearance but personally I found that since the plot and horror were so well executed, which are imo also the most important aspects, then something minor like that wouldn't be too distracting.
Exactly. They built up to this thing for a huge amount of time, and I loved all of the teasing it did. It did horror/thriller tension right!
Three years later (March 2021) this is being screened on BBC television. I first thought this was a BBC production (which has a long heritage in historical drama) but see it was commissioned by a US production company. First rate actors and production values - and we in the UK are used to quality drama.
I just watched this this past week and I’m so happy you did a video on it. I can’t get it out my mind lol
Thinking back on it this series did a better job then Stranger Things, especially Season 2 of that show, with regards to the monster and revealing it. I went into it wanting to see the human side of the expedition, which was already horrific enough, but the monster element fit so perfectly.
I JUST finished the book, which had me on the edge, and very uncomfortable at times!
I didn’t want to ruin the progression of the book, by jumping in and watching the show....now, time to watch this seemingly amazing show!!❤️
This is a Beautiful show.. BEAUTIFUL
So was the monster real or was it actually lead poisoning?
Had to be real because what the hell else would explain all the sequences where people get torn apart by the Tunbaq and how they meet various eskimos who talk about the tunbaq to them.
great show and it's based on a true story which is scarier than fiction
I have always had great fascination with the story of these two ships. They do say there is evidence of cannibalism and there was traces of lead in some of the bodies but not all. They still dont 100% know what happened which makes it so much more interesting
Great freaking show! Masterful
Valery Legasov, Gaius Julius Ceasar, and Brutus decided to explore the arctic....
I absolutely loved season one, however I couldn't even get past 2 episodes of season 2. Not even close to the same show at all. They pair them together on IMDB and on streaming sites with like 3 out of 5 stars when season 1 was 5 out of 5, easily. What a shame
The first episode very much lays the foundation for the horrors to come. Right up to the sting of a glare Crozier gives to Franklin at the end and the silence of the Arctic circle upon which Franklin realizes "he dun fucked up". But the hints were dropped that come back up in later episodes and its brilliant!
The music makes you feel uneasy and the even the opening makes you uncomfortable. And the other thing is there is not only a monster in this series, there are few others that are constantly there but not as prevalent as the monster. The Environment, the ships, and the Falisies of Man.
And I agree there are a lot of characters and it took me a few viewing as to know the bulk of them. But it was 130 man expedition, so... yeah. Big group
And apparently in 2019 the found the desk of Cozier completely intact, the wanted to open it to see if there is any testimonies of the first moments of the expedition...
Took me three binges to learn the secondary characters. It's actually a Ridley Scott production, so there's your American link.
It looks like the lighthouse and taboo. Cant wait to watch tonight!
My main problem is the sound and editing errors in the last few episodes. Like they didn't bother to get rid of these in post
This whole series gave me game of thrones ep 1 uneasiness levels. It was all so creepy but devastating as well. You got to see almost the whole range of human emotions and base motivations play out on screen in the most thrilling of ways. So well executed that when I was watching it I kept constantly thinking Thunbaq was behind me. CREEPY I tell you.
Great tv series and great book
Great video, I completely agree this show was incredible. I covered it on my channel too.
Agree with you 100%.
The book is 10/10. Tv series 8/10. But still great
Dude you should given it a 9.
another show that is really good is the alienist
The book was gr8. Now reading another similar thick book by Dan Simmons about chaps lost on everest in 1924 being chased by a yeti. The series to Terror was good. One mistake though. In such temperatures you would be breathing out a hell of a lot of steam..
That would make for a great season 3 or 4 of The Terror series, since each season is a unique story.
My understanding is that they filmed on cold sets, so maybe it wasn't picked up on camera? One time I did notice it was when Franklin's wife went to the admiralty to demand a rescue be sent. She discusses the unusual cold in London and when they leave, in the stairwell, they can see their breath and windows are frosted... a nice detail that they are in a cold stone building in strange cold weather. Tons of details in this show.
It was a decent show, but wow did it move sllloooooowwww. Each hour long episode is entirely dialogue and maybe one notable thing happens
I just finished watching this. It had great actors in it. It started strong and then it went off the rails. I agree there were so many charaters it was hard to keep track. The entire thing around the lead poisoning was great, but all of a sudden characters changed as far as Mr Goodsir who ia anamtonist and even admits he cut up 20 people all of a sudden has this problem doing that to the dead the guy. I am not sure if he was forced to eat him or not but after evething
I may be Inuk (you can tell by my last name) I’m not very interested in our culture but It’s enjoyable to see Inuks in popular tv show
I’ll be in the minority here. Good grief it was boring and I LOVE a horror series. This one was like watching paint dry and the monster with the terrible cgi was not a good idea. They definitely could have made it polar bears or aggressive wolves or something. The real “horror” was that the environment and their provisions were killing them. Everything added to that was nonsense. The creature sucked. The storyline (or lack thereof) with the Inuit was a bunch of nothing. And they clearly crammed in that really dry, gay storyline just to kinda sorta play up diversity. It wasn’t interesting and added nothing to the plot. The real history of this expedition is chilling and cool. The show stunk.
I totally disagree with man are you serious? Comparing to the hunted house on Netflix this was the worse horror series i ever seen n my life
Sorry to hear thatan. I enjoyed this for its slow building tension. I've also had a fascination with the actual incident itself for a really long time so that added to my enjoyment.
what i don't understand is why is it so boring.. i mean i can't even make it pass the first 30 minutes and i wanted to love this series so bad...
This show was way too depressing and just sickening.
Well ... That's kind of what happened to the sailors of this expedition. Of course there wasn't a mythical man eating bear involved but they did mostly likely collapse on each other and they did eat each other
@@JeremyHannaford
of course there was, how come they got torn apart then?
@@ProtoIndoEuropean88 I meant the actual historical event, not the show per say
