LeBron James is now the all time leading scorer in NBA history... but what if I told you his record is already being broken?

Honestly, at this point I freaking hate how these PrizePick spons all make the content creator say "it's you against the numbers". Technically true? Perhaps, but in reality it's you against *the sportsbook*. Those numbers that they say you're up against - the odds specifically - have the vig (vigorosh, sportsbook cut) baked into them, so unless you're in the
Ey bum luka had more to fill nobody knows
It's essentially a marathon kind of record more than a quality or ceiling kind of record
With respect, Kareem was just as dedicated to longevity.
When Kareem went into the NBA he was 4 years older than LBJ was.
You can appreciate LBJ’s greatness without disrespecting Kareem’s.
Kareem’s longevity is certainly impressive.
@@fortynights1513 Absolutely. Kareem played until he was 42 and started out in Converse All-Stars during an era where sports medicine was not advanced and load management meant you played 78 games @ 40+ minutes per... All LeBron did is join the Kareem club. He didn't 'pass him up'
Also Kareem made a grand total of 1 3 pointer for his entire career while lebron is in the top 10. That means his scoring record was much harder to obtain.
@@ray101892 This doesn't make sense. Kareem shooting more of his shots closer to the basket does not make his scoring harder, actually logic would suggest the opposite.
But his career is absolutely insane, especially due to all that he had to go through to play up to 42 and be impactful in that era
@@ray101892 that argument really only holds water if LeBron was a good 3 point shooter his whole career. He's been an average at best 3P shooter for most of his career and only shoots 34% which is low enough to actually slow down his career scoring pace slightly vs if he converted more of those 3 point attempts to 2s. Especially since Kareem shot at above 55% FG for much of his career largely from near basket attempts. LeBron's career FG% from inside the arc is also remarkably close to Kareem's as well (56% for Kareem vs 55.4% for LeBron).
I don’t see any player ever having the same longevity of greatness that LeBron has had. This is a Wayne Gretzky/Jerry Rice record that won’t be broken. Have to remember LeBron could very well play another 2-4 seasons while averaging 20+ppg, only adding on to the record.
Two other words to you: Load management.
Chances are he played more games per season in earlier years of his career than some players today end up playing.
Careers may go longer due to medicine and sport science, but due to load management, the record may be tough to beat.
If the Lakers let Lebron do that, they won’t be contenders for a long time.
@@Marlowe10100 yeah man, LeBron really must be the problem of that team. Not like their roster is poorly built or anything. It's really LeBron. Take him out of the team and they're instant contenders. 😂
Luka at 38 would be as quick as Celtics Shaquille o Neal, he needs to modify his game or optimize his body if Luka wants the scoring title, which he doesn’t lol
His game dosent rely on speed at all……
His game does not need speed but anyway he has said that he won't best the record, he doesn't want to play For that many years and has ni interest in being the scoring leader
Meh, I garantee Luka will return at 34ish to Real Madrid. He wont stay to be on mid teams in his late 30s if he can be the guy im europe and have a nice paycheck there.
@@gamingsquad2326 bro stop with this argument
From my experience, players who have very little of something (speed, quickness ETC) get affected more (sometimes) with age, then more athletic guys like lebron… because that trait goes from average to very below Average.
Like everyone was saying (my self included) that James hardens game would last so long because he doesn’t have insane athleticism but as soon as hardens birst decreased a little, it became useless.
I’m not saying Luka will decline as fast as harden (age 32-33 or so) but this narrative is dumb bro!

The amazing thing with the record is not the amount of points… but the longevity. He might even be a top player in the nba as a 40 years old. Unique is the word that describes him as a basketball player.
The way he has handled his body so professionally, and with some luck to avoid major career threatening injuries… that to me is what makes this record so impressive.
Thats what makes him the goat
And also the minutes he plays at this stage, and how he (Lebron) has managed his minutes all of his career. What I mean, is he NEVER plays 20 minutes in a game, he either plays starter minutes or sits out. He has never been ejected of a game.
He is playing a lot of minutes this recent years despite all the losing.
For example, Tim Duncan played less than 28 minutes a game since he was 34 and also reduced his shot attempts, he made that because was that was the best for the team.
Carmelo Anthony, last year avg 13 pts in 20 minutes, if you gave him all the touches and minutes he wanted, he would score 24 pts a game but of course the team would lose all the time….Well, same is happening with Lebron, he scores a lot and efficiently during the first 3 quarters but has shrunk all season during clutch time. Lakers are in 13th place.
@@Marlowe10100 ya but the losing isn’t Lebrons fault nobody can shoot and to win game Lebron need to have threats he can pass out to
Like last night Austin reeves was wide open like nobody picked him up one play and Lebron saw him and Austin moved more even though he was open already and bricked that shit
@@deseanmathieu239 Last night the only one trying to win the game was Westbrook. Lebron couldn't care less after he broke the record. Good for him, but I feel sorry for the team and the fans.
Luka isnt breaking it. His body is going to breakdown far faster bc he doesnt take care of his body
And he already said he doesn’t wanna play that long
Yeah he's not athletic, he's already slow now for his age and will get Dirk slow when he's old
how do you know he doesnt take care of his body?
@@garlicricekid because of the weight he has played at and stated he needed to get in shape.
@@garlicricekid He's European. Lotsa bad drinking and smoking habit with those guys
The biggest factor is luck. Not only do you have to be an GOAT level scorer which is hard enough to do on its own, you have to avoid any significant injuries. Do you know how easy it is just to go up for a layup and just land wrong? A potential ankle, achillies, or leg injury could completely change the the trajectory of your career.
It's a testament to his dedication to keep himself in shape and I'm not sure if these guys really have it.
Kareem broke the record in 1984, later that year LeBron was born. Maybe the guy who overtakes LeBron is yet to be born
LeBron did not 'overtake' he just got to the same level. LeBron has now done some all-time great things so he earned his way into the GOAT conversation but nothing he did changes the legend status of Kareem
@@I.am_Groot I think you're taking things a bit too seriously. Saying LeBron has overtaken Kareem's record is not a dig at Kareem's legacy.
@@Recovery305 Cool. Saying LBJ has joined Kareem on the Goat Mt Rushmore is not a dig at anyone!
@@I.am_Groot Lebron surpassed Kareem a while ago if were being honest
@@tiktokexposed898 LeBron deserves his recognition. Same as the other GOAT's
Just in case anyone was curious (because I was) Wilt Chamberlain broke Bob Pettit's career record of 20,880 points to achieve the record. I remember Kareem setting the record, I just never remembered hearing whose record Wilt broke.
We need to see a player who can play atleast 70 games in his 1st 5-8 season while averaging 20+ points
Luka already said that he wouldn’t be playing that long on the NBA, so I’m not counting on him to play 20+ seasons
no shit, he said it in the video
@@fjnemo bro, i wrote this as I tapped into the video
I didnt know at the time that he was going to say it
Also, I didn’t bother to delete it since I have more important things to do than correct a minor mistake
Lukas body won’t let him since he is already quite chubby
Nobody is going to top LeBron's scoring record, or MJ's perfect Finals record, or Bill Russell's 11 rings, or Kareem's career achievements. The NBA Mt Rushmore is set. We got 4 GOATs one for each era
What's crazy about LeBron too is that he's done it for this long while still being an athletic player. Clearly not as athletic as he used to be, but he can still get up in the air and throw down hammers regularly.
Lol I would play 20 plus seasons to if I never tried on defense and got bailed out by the refs every time I went to the hole the longevity is great in all but but when u look at his career as a whole it’s not that impressive he isn’t as exciting as curry to watch and he isn’t as dynamic as MJ or Kobe was honestly if rank careers just based off how exciting and dynamic they were to watch who can’t even put lebron in top
Cam Thomas got this easily, gonna average 40 until he's 40
Dude is making it look easy!! Nets got a gem there Bye-rie it's Cam time
Ben Simmons could break this................in 2k
The thing with Lebron is we still don't know when this man is going to retire or start declining, this man could try to pull a Brady and play until 45 😂, Luka is a good choice but Luka said he doesn't want to play as long as Bron and would rather be on a farm in Slovenia by that time lol
Great vids as always my dude. You gonna be doing any live streams of games anytime soon? Always loved joining those, haven’t noticed any in a minute
With all the emphasis on load management, I dont see the record being broken by a current player (or even someone entering the league in the next few seasons). But i won't say it'll never be broken. Nobody knows what the league will look like 10, 20, 30 years down the road
Good point. Guys now think of 65-70 as a 'full season' and often play closer to 30mpg vs 40 so that alone makes it nearly impossible to see anyone getting to Kareem/LeBron level
Luka already said he's not planning on playing 20 years and he's also never played more than 75 games in a season how do you think he's gonna get it lmao?
Nice video, but I wish you would focus more on points scored through a certain number of seasons instead of games. Stars missing games is probably the biggest reason this record won't be broken anytime soon.
I think Cam Thomas will break the record with average of 40 PPG
Really good spin on this news. Always bringing the most genuine content on NBA topics, with the enthusiasm to boot. Good video, Tucker.
I love how he said players like Trae don't age will. Players like Lebron aren't supposed to age well either 😅 One of Lebron's main strengths has been his freak athleticism. Those players usually start to fall massively in their mid 30's when the athleticism inevitably stars to wane. Luca though. No chance. He's always been a little bit doughy for an athlete and he's a kid now. Imagine him in his late 30's. He'll end up like Harden. Ridiculous numbers for years and then a big drop off while still being a really good player.
No player in nba history has been as dependable as lebron? Hmmm ever heard of John Stockton?
I think you mean durable. I dont now how dependable a guy can be that averaged 13 a game in the playoffs and has zero NBA titles.
Keep in mind Bron averages 27 a game for his career, which as of right now is the 5th highest average ever and if he averaged 0.14 more a game he'd have the third highest average, in NBA history.
It takes more than just durability to get close to the record
Bro, Wilt isn't getting pushed out of the top 10 for scoring all-time for decades. Melo himself wasn't able to break through to the 30K points mark. An extremely small percentage of people will be able to do it going forward. I could see him keeping his position for 25+ years
In whole NBA history there was no player that was that good for 20 years and it seem Lebron has couple years still on high lavel that mean in 5 years he could still play and make 10-15 points a game what is CRAZY. Luka is great but he already had more injuries than Lebron in 10 years in NBA.
Right, this is about consistency, but also health and good fortune. Remember, 20 years ago, most people thought it was going to be Karl Malone to break Kareem's record. He had averaged 25-plus in 18 seasons with the Jazz and never missed more than two games a year. Consistency and health. But after one injury-plagued season with the Lakers he abruptly retired, with just over 1400 points behind Kareem, a total that would have been easily eclipsed in any of his seasons with Utah. But it didn't happen, because even if you take care of your body the best you can, you can't control everything.
If Karl Malone had the advanced sports medicine/nutrition we have today combined with the much less physical style of play his numbers would go up. Kareem and Malone were 22 year old rookies. LeBron logged over 250 games by the time he turned 22. Now King James is in the club but he didn't 'eclipse' the other guys that were already there
The John Stockton assist record will never be broken
Lebron's playoffs scoring is the real unbreakable record
At the rate that lil defense is being played, yes someone will break it in a few years
Ironic the most points isn't about scoring it's about longevity, health, and confidence
It’s about those things AND scoring. There’s 9 guys who have played more games than LeBron.
Lebron has the 5th highest scoring average of all time. its about scoring too
If Lebron plays until he cant play anymore like Kareem. As in he plays until he's averaging about 12 points a game, which in Lebron's case could be when he's 45, then no one will break his record for a long lone time.
This is a long shot but it depends on how long Curry plays. His game doesn’t age. I can see him starting up until year 20 then be like Ray Allen and come off the bench the back end of his career for a championship team. But like I said it’s a long shot.
I don't see this record ever being broken tbh. You literally need to be the best player on your team for 20 years straight with almost zero injuries to top this... Jordan's body broke down, Harden's broke down, Luka has already missed chunks of time, Durant tore his achilles and been injury prone ever since, Kobe played for 20 years and couldn't do it despite his scoring prowess. I just don't see another person being as good as LeBron for longer than LeBron while having even better injury luck than LeBron.
All very logical.. what needs to considered is Lebron started out of high school.. meaning 38 yo at his 20th season.. so good luck finding an 18 yo guy that scores like lebron and as durable as lebron..
Lebron = GOAT = Continous Substance Excellence! = The New Metric or Modern GOAT.
If Luke stays healthy and plays 70 plus games for 15 or more seasons then yeah he might be able to beat the record but if he starts becoming injury prone and doesn't play 70 plus games per season average over 27ppg then he won't be able to
I don’t anyone will break it in our lifetime tbh they have to play at that level for 20+ years and rely on their body not betraying them it’ll be tuff
The problem with that is lebron at 38 is giving you 30 per night he may retire in Luka’s 9th season.. if he’s still giving you 26 ppg over a span of 50 games per season its hard to even think luka can come close
Its a record of longevity
Might be too early, but the name to my mind was Paolo
Jayson Tatum has the Body and the skillset to reach it
I like Tatum there are a lot of young guns capable of scoring it is the idea you can maintain a starting level skillset for 20 years.... That is something that takes a bunch of factors working together mainly no long term injury breaks
luv how dedicated you are to ur vids man, really shows how hard u work on these things
Thank you!
Luka’s usage is the most of anyone in league history, he won’t break LeBron’s record because he won’t last long enough. The reason Kareem’s record lasted so long because of his longevity combined with his talent. It’s the same reason LeBron’s record will last 30-40 years
With the way scoring in the NBA has been prioritized, it’s becoming more possible. The thing we have to take into account is Lebron has sooooo many extra games from deep finals runs. Not only did he barely miss any regular season games he was basically a lock to at least make the ECF for years. He’s got 3 entire extra seasons of basketball if you include playoffs. The longevity + deep playoff runs will be hard to match.
The main records are only for the regular season
The scoring record only accounts for regular season games though what he’s accomplished is truly unmatched as well
This doesn’t include playoff points only regular season
All time playoff scoring is a separate list, the current record LeBron got applies only to the regular season. LeBron has already been the all time playoff leading scorer by a country mile for quite some time.
luka would have to play into his late 30 early 40
Luka at 38 will weight like 280 😂 I don’t think he will. You forgot about Paolo Banchero. He entered the league young, he es a very talented scorer and he seems he’s going to be durable
Jaylen Brown your next video Sporting Logically 🙏🙏🙏
I don't quite agree with your take here. LeBron wasn't just available at the right time, he owns the 5th highest scoring average in league history. Those two things together with his sustained excellence over 20 years is the reason he's the leading scorer in NBA history.
I expect a video about the trade between the Lakers, Wolves, and Jazz today is currently in the works! 😉
already out!
Luka is gonna get fat I dunno how you don't see that
if the nba shortens the season nobody will break the record unless the nba adds a 4 point line
LeBron is on track to hit 39,000 points by seasons end isn’t he?
Say 25 points and 20 points the following two seasons playing 70 games per.
That’ll take him to around 42,000+ points at 40 years old.
Would take something or someone phenomenal to crack that. Start young take advantage of the three ball and all other offensive minded advantages his career will have over LeBrons and then still remain healthy, durable and elite for ~20 years - that’s asking quite a lot.
My thought is if guys like Beal can get $50m per season contracts and guys like Lillard can get $60m today - this future superstar likely to get $100m at some point in their career - and at that value teams will be super careful with their asset.
This could counter many favourable terms this guy would have over LeBron.
Good luck to whoever it could be and anyone that wants to try for it.
The way the NBA is going now someone will be averaging 50 a game in a few years.
No they fuckin ain’t 😭
Those guys you mentioned have combined
Wb Jason Tatum?
yeah, wb Tatum?!
It's probably gonna be nearly impossible and if it does happen someday more than likely won't be in our lifetime or not for a very very long time atleast. Gotta keep in mind for the fact LeBron is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon and is averaging 30 ppg in year 20. Goat 🐐 stuff. He's definitely gonna be playing years to come still and will finish well into over 40k points. He could finish with 43k-45k points maybe more so unless somebody comes into league averaging 40+ a game playing all 82 games a year and plays like 20+ years it won't happen.
Wilt was the original phenom.
There is too much load management in the modern NBA which will hurt other players chances.
You want to say no when you think about how long it would take to get 38,000 points but the way guys shoot 3's now I can't say no. But I do not see a player in today's NBA I think will last 20 years at the top of the sport. It was 40 years between Kareem and Lebron on the record, probably will be just as long until next time.
There's no way Lebrons not on the "mexican supplements", and I don't mind juice them up but also that's just a part of basketball no one wants to talk about
I dont see it being broken for decades
Nigga said Anthony edwards 💀
Wrong Luka already said that he’s not gonna play for a long time
I'm 27 and im certain when i die of old age at 100 +++ lebron will still be the all time top scorer. Barring catastrophic injuries lebron will reach at least 42k points. He will be playing at a high level for about 2-3 more years then will become a less athletic passing shooting pg for another 2-3 years then role player for 1-2 years.
43k +
*Luka does something unintelligibly crazy*
Ah, it's just Luka magic
Luka definitely retiring before 38
Homeboy don’t wanna play in America too long
This record can be a 40k it will be beaten the way NBA is played 2 day it’s just we got to see if any player or players want to play at least 15 to 20 yrs.
Luka Doncic injury prone not broke Bron record all-time scoring
A.I was on pace to be the scoring king but his body didn’t hold up 🤷🏾♂️
Nobody can break this record. it is impossible. He is still going on 41k points in his retirement.
Im offended luka would be the top candidate. Well im sure somebody said this about lebron long time ago. Karl got close and people were expecting him to but the gas tank went empty. Lebron has the advantage of getting into the league early and took his off season training/ maintenance seriously.
Luka has literally said he doesnt wanna play that long lol but who knows maybe
The thing about Lebron is that he never had a major injury like an acl or achillies to slow him down.
If You can turd down the injuries like in 2K. KD would be that guy
Tbh i dont think that any player now or in the future will break this record other than at a push Wemby
Right now, there is no Player, who is on pace to break the record. Luka is already falling behind. If you check the first five seasons of Luka: He played 330 Games and scored 9.100 points. LeBron through his first five seasons was at 391 games (almost a full "Luka season" ahead) and at 10.689 Points. And LeBron was at age 23 at the end of season 5. He turned 24 in his season 6. Luka turned 24 in the middle of season 5.
At this pace, Luka is not even close. He would need to play for too long. And play 75+ Games a season. Which he never did.
Sometime, there will be someone to break the record. But this Person is probably not even born yet. And definitly not in the League.
I don’t think Luka has the body to keep playing at a high level past 35/36. We really need to wait until a player reaches at least 30k points and in their 30s to really see if they have a realistic shot.
Many players can have a good 10-15 year career. To break lebron’s record, a player will need a 23-25 years career playing and scoring at a star level player with minimal injuries and hope nba lockouts and pandemics don’t have to much impact. This is why the record is so hard to break.
The thing that will stop people from beating Lebron's record is durability. Everyone is scoring 20+ ppg like its nothing nowadays, so scoring isn't the problem. The problem is durability. Ain't nobody lasting 20 years with no major injuries that derail their career.
I would have thought Karl Malone or John Stockton should get a nod for their amazing durability.
Luka is playing untill 30 and adio
Is the assist record still untouchable?
In this NBA, Yes
That’s not being touched, ever
No record is untouchable even in todays NBA. It is highly unlikely to be broken, but not untouchable. I used to think Wilts 100 point game was unbreakable, but after seeing Kobe get 80 and now Mitchell getting 70, I think even that will be broken some day.
Luka himself said he doesn't want to play that long. He doesn't like the NBA that much lol. He even said he doesn't like watching the NBA in his off time.
It's probably not going to be Luka.
I bet the league will end up shortening the season + modern day load management. Bron’s record will stand the test of time
Crazy to think that Kareem only had one 3-pointer in his entire career
Jason Tatum-Luka have a chance
Luka doesn’t he’s not playing that long he said it himself, jayson Tatum is behind already
its gonna be amen thompson
Maybe ginnas🇬🇷
Will Westbrook break LeBrons all time turnover record of 2021, or will he out of the league before doing so?
Listen I like Luka he's a generational talent and great player but there's no way in hell he's got any shot at breaking that record. I think the thing people forget is LeBron doesn't decline every other player to ever play game declines over time and by year 14 let alone 20 there a shell of there former self. Luka isn't gonna play anywhere near 20 years especially with how slow he already is now and considering LeBron isn't retiring anytime soon LeBron could end up with 43-46k points maybe even more.
Let the guy have his moment !! The record was broke last night 😂
It will NOT be broken ever
Unless the league gets “load management” under control
When Lebron retires, (and trust me Im not a Lebron fan) an era of hard-working players who do whatever it takes to win will end.
Gonna take 30-something seasons @ 56 games per season to overtake this record
luka may have the best chance of anyone in the league rn but luka at the age of 35 is gunna be sloppy af so theres no way he will pass it 😂
So according to pass history... Luka will be in a Lakers uniform if and when he breaks the record
Nah I don’t think so
Sorry but this record isn’t getting broken for a long time. Luka is young enough and has the ability but injury and longevity are a concern. Tatum is another young player with the ability, but I don’t think he will have the physicality to be as productive in his later years, even though he has been relatively healthy throughout his career thus far. Also Lebron is likely going to play another season… he will have above 40k by the time he retires. I just don’t see any of these current guys in the league with dedication to longevity like Lebron.
Realistically luka won’t pass it because he treats his body like trash so it wouldn’t hold up but then even if it did his love for the game isn’t really their he’s like the opposite of Kobe. Luka likes winning but it could be anything tbh it wouldn’t have to be ball in his case
Honestly I’d think nobody in the league yet will pass him we’d need a Lukas scorning but with the lebron/Kobe dedication which is a mindset that is as rare as it comes so might just be another 40 years
Luka is the only current player whose come in getting buckets at a HIGHER level than LeBron.
His physique/genetics are the primary concerns for whether he’s the one to break it or not.
LeBron is a genetic specimen and likely never to be replicated again.
Jayson Tatum, Paolo Banchero, Anthony Edwards, and maybe Ja Morant would be players that’ll keep getting buckets-but durability is really going to be the deciding factor.
