- Tommy Atkins (often just Tommy) is slang for a common soldier in the British Army. It was certainly well established during the nineteenth century, but is particularly associated with the First World War. It can be used as a term of reference, or as a form of address. German soldiers would call out to "Tommy" across no man's land if they wished to speak to a British soldier. French and Commonwealth troops would also call British soldiers "Tommies". In more recent times, the term Tommy Atkins has been used less frequently, although the name "Tom" is occasionally still heard; private soldiers in the British Army's Parachute Regiment are still referred to as "Toms".

Hi GV! Have missed a few of your videos..notifications have played up…but I just received this one, and what amazing monuments you have been able to show us! Such colourful headstones, and the photos of the people who have gone before us.
It shocks me to see how many young people have died in accidents….so very sad…and my heartfelt sympathies go out to all their families.

Some very large and beautiful headstones and memorials in this cemetery. So sad so many young buried here. The Cash family graves were amazing. Lovely War memorial and poem. Thank you for this walk through the cemetery. God Bless ❤

there are some truly stunning graves in this cemetery all kept clean and tidy.......dont see this too often.....a few youngsters in here which is always unfortunate.......great vid G.V

Now THERE are some intricate graves! And that war memorial with the poem on the back wall, "Tommy in the trenches" was a nice memorial to the fallen of WW1.

Each to their own of course, but to me some of those memorials are way OTT.
I've seen more bigger elaborate ones
@@GraveVisitationsI should have given some examples. The poor baby's grave which was one of the first in the video has so many quotations on various stones. The grave next to the baby has many as well, when to my mind one or two would suffice, but of course, as I said each to their own.
