  • This is our mud home in early 2021. Up until this point, the wooden frame was built by a local artisan, and the walls were built by the community during a one-day big celebration called a Junta de Embarra (more to come on this!). This is before Kristina builds an all-natural addition to the mud home in 2021 and 2022, merging her engineering background with traditional techniques from around the world. See what our home looked like before we completely transformed it!
    Mud homes are highly sustainable and excellent for health if done properly. We are excited to share our journey and the beauty of natural building and natural living.

    oh wow, when you showed the clay tiles and explained that it was the shape of the maker's leg, i got really emotional and kind of teared up. there's something incredibly special about that! it's hard to describe, almost like this feeling of... even many decades or a hundred years from now when we have left the earth, a little piece of us or our spirit remains, this little symbol that we were here in the form of these clay tiles.

      I agree, it is a magical thing! Someone's love and care 150 years ago is part of our home now, so special!🙏

    I'm binging your videos :) We've seen a few people use manure in their mixture and it's great to see the clay/sand/manure mixture aged and still very functional 150 years later. Love the tree and the story behind when to cut. You just cannot put a price on that local knowledge. Love it!

    Those are the traditional ways to make the roof tiles actually how they got their shape!

    Do you have a video that shows how you make the pillars and the foundation ?

    • @turiyapanama
      @turiyapanama  Před rokem +1

      My other videos show the pillar process! The house is rooted directly on the ground in most of the home with a 1 foot thick roadbase rock layer and then earthen floor on top! The front porch area has a concrete retaining wall just to keeot he roadbase in place, but there is no concrete in the foundation itself, just very well compacted roadbase!

    This is so inspiring! How would you all approach building a roof for a mud home in a place that experiences hurricanes?

    • @turiyapanama
      @turiyapanama  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank u so much! Clay tiles wouldn't be possible, but I would do wood, then zinc, and then soem kind of cover material like traditional roof rubber or something like this!
