      Dirt Bike TV, going to pick up a 125 this winter, build it up & plan on riding tracks next year. My question is you say run race fuel, or at least half.. So if I'm running half race fuel, am I mixing it with premixed premium pump gas? & should the premix be manufacture specs? Do I need head mods to run half race fuel? I had a 125 before & shot a top end due to detonation I believe. Love the vids, they give great ideas & future plans on which direction to go with my 125

  • @johnpaulstez

    • @dirtbiketv1

  • @backyardboosters9128
    @backyardboosters9128 Před 7 lety +10

    this is great, but there is a funny flaw. You do not have to run race gas to avoid detonation, first it's all in jetting, if you're lean you'll get detonatio. 2 modern fuel maintains the same octane ratings as yesteryear, 3 with anything close to factory jetting there's not way you're going to get detonation.

    • @backyardboosters9128
      @backyardboosters9128 Před 7 lety

      Now to make sure I cover my butt here, if you're jetting for every bit of power or running high compression obviously you want 110, c16, or some equivalent. I'm just saying most people out there with factory timing and compression won't need race fuel.

    • @dirtbiketv1
      @dirtbiketv1  Před 7 lety +1

      Dirt Bike TV In Boise Id. I've seen lots of two strokes primarily 125s blowing the exhaust edge of the Piston off stock motors stock jetting elevation of 2500' to 3000'

    • @dirtbiketv1
      @dirtbiketv1  Před 7 lety +1

      Most likely a bit lean on jetting and also not high enough octane fuel. Start with Stock Jetting and run higher octane and you an avoid that.

    • @mxforever6445
      @mxforever6445 Před 7 lety +2

      I agree. With proper jetting on a stock motor detonation should not be a problem on even 89 octane!

    I’m having a VERY hard time deciding between a 125 and 250. Raced 250Fs in SoCal novice (kinda fast). So I’m VERY familiar with 250Fs power and was ringing out the bikes. I’m torn between the 2 cause I don’t want to get a 125 and have it feel underpowered and vise versa a 250 and feel like it’s too hard to control. The YZ250 is $800 more then the YZ125 new. The cost for a pipe, silencer, vforce is about $600 for the 125. Y’all think I’ll be disappointed with the 125 power? On the flip side I was thinking about getting a YZ250, leaving it stock, and adding a fly wheel weight to tame the hit a bit. I like the power of the 250Fs compared to the 450s cause I can ride it to its full potential. But can certainly ride 450s too and have a lot of experience on 450s as well. I’m 26 and 185lbs. It’ll be track only and now that I’m not racing I want to get on a 2 stroke. If I wanted a 4 stroke it would have been easy. 250F. But it’s hard to gauge where the 2 strokes stack up. 125 being closer to 250F power or 250 being closer to 250F power. 125 being a lot slower then a 250F. 250 being a lot faster then a 250F. Oh the dilemma.
