  • The Yamaha YZ250 has been around a long time and its a favorite for many racers and just regular riders.
    2005 YZ250 Rebuild -
    High lights--
    Bike was bought as a rolling chassis but the motor was in pieces and we knew the cylinder was in need of serious repair so Millennium helped get the cylinder back to new.
    Once the cases were split we discovered that one was cracked internally and had to be replaced.
    We got TMR to modify the Cylinder and Head.
    Replaced the bearings and seals on the machine with Pivot Works kits.
    For the cables we went with All Balls and for the brakes they offer full rebuild kits and that combined with the
    Cerakote from Faster USA our brakes with the Tusk lines look full factory.
    We wanted updated suspension so we went with 2011 YZ450 forks found for a great deal on CL
    The frame was able to be buffed off and cleaned up.
    The swing arm was so beat up that it was easier to just have our local Metal Polishing company buff away the scratches. When the polish goes away we just Scotch Bright the aluminum.

    Why do people like the YZ250? Because it's the swiss army knife of 2 strokes. It's good in motocross, offroad racing and single track. It comes with awesome suspension. The engine is claw hammer reliable. A couple mods and it's competitive against newer 2T. You can put a WR400/426 transmission in it and it's a single track weapon. The same engine has been around since '99! Lots of aftermarket support. OEM parts are plentiful and worlds cheaper than anything other than Honda, and team red hasn't made a 2T for over a decade. Those are my reasons...

    Kills me when they call em beat up cause they are rode. That baby is in its prime as long as you keep all the bearings replaced and top end fresh.

  • @endurotruckererniedesjardins

    I think alot of us love and support the yz125 and yz250 because YAMAHA is still awesome enough to continue offering these amazing bikes. I think if Suzuki Kawasaki and Honda got back in the game the support would be spread out again in the 2 stroke market. Let's face it. If you ain't Joe pro with someone paying the bill to fix your 4 stroke, most of us look at the cost as a killer expensive cost. So to avoid these expensive rebuilds we stick to 2 strokes. Just price a cylinder head,4 valves, cam, timing chain, and piston for a four stroke and that explains everything. I've been there. Oil pump drive gear got taken out by a transmission gear tooth. 4700 bucks to rebuild my yz450f .

    • @TheRealKalEll
      @TheRealKalEll Před 5 lety +3

      Agreed. Yamaha makes an affordable entry level race bike platform with the best bang for the buck and they keep the price low to open the market and sell more product and it works, for us and for them. It's well known that everyone mods their bikes so they make strong what needs to be safe, and cheaper of what needs general maintainance replacing. The very fist cars were water and battery powered. I see bikes evolving past this to the point that wheels might become secondary to hover or levitation technology like in Star Wars. Imagine THOSE races!!

    love 2 stroke yzs and basically any yamaha. imo yamaha has the best engineers. all the parts are interchangeable between bikes. take a master cylinder for instance. that fits on a yz 250, 125 blaster, banshee etc. yamaha makes awesome 2 stroke atvs and one of the most badass street bikes in history (the rz 350)
    every time i go to the track, multiple people have yzs, whether they are new ones, or the steeleys. such a great bike and im glad yamaha still puts out new models each year. yes they havent changed much, but what they are doing is putting out lots of parts for people to have access to in order to keep their bike maintained. the last cr 125/250 was in 2007. Yamaha as of 2020 still puts those out. Whose parts will be easier to source in 20 years?

Low maintenance, reasonably prices spares and absolute monstrous power given the bikes low weight , vastly superior to a 250f & 350f imo. 450f’s are too expensive to fix if you are just a casual rider ( like most people are ) especially when you start putting on high performance aftermarket parts on them #5 hour engine.

I had to replace 2 sets of reeds in the first year of ownership until i upgraded to boyesen coz im too tight for v force. 😂😂 and if you dont lock tight EVERYTHING they shake them selves to bits ive had the spark plug work its self out twice the sump plug drop out on me luckily id just finished the moto and it did no damage. Especially when the tract conditions are not perfect

    • @sciewter
      @sciewter Před 5 lety +1

      @Badass Skeptic 450's have more toque yes, but its not just that, its is how the power comes on. The traction on the 4 T is all delivery, that higher torque curve is spread out over a longer rpm range where the 2T hits in peak in a narrower rpm range causing wheel spin. To ride the 2t fast the rider has to develop clutch skills to keep things gripping.
      Same goes for the 500, most riders who raced them were in fact just as fast if not faster on their 250 2t's because the 500 power hit so hard and kicked their butts.
      Modern 450's are pushing the same if not higher stock power numbers as the old 500's and its spread out over more rpm.
      But no one smiles when they ride a 4t, every 2t rider knows the grin when the power comes on.
