I’m doing the same thing on my YZ250, it’s a 2006, it’s already been rebuilt once and has had multiple owners, I’ve had it for about a year and it is extremely crusty,I finally got enough money to do a basic rebuild, not as good as this but enough to make it like new, been at it for a few days now and I must say it is extremely therapeutic and as my first build, very satisfying and building self confidence in my mechanical skills
right on brother, enjoy the process!!
2006 👍, that about 1993?)
we have yt.. we can completely rebuild anything if we want. lol
I used to ride a YZ490, back in my day. 17 tooth on the front, 34 tooth rear. Mostly fast track, but a lot of bush, and steep hills. I'm now 61 and ride a WR450F. I wish I was young again and still had my YZ490. The most fun you can have with your pants on.
I loved the video, such a great job. The bike looks amazing. Well done.
thanks a lot, glad you like it! I heard those old YZs were monsters
@@dirtniron I'd trade my new 450F for an 87 YZ490 any day of the week. They we monsters. The low down torque was so incredible. Yeah, they don't make em like that anymore, sadly. Cheers, Mate.
A 34 tooth rear sprocket?!?! Your 1st and 2nd gear must’ve been non existent .. I run a 14/48 on my 2012 XCF 250, and even that, my first gear gets me up to like 15 kmh in about 3-4 seconds .. most of the time, I don’t even use 1st and 2nd.. I just jump to third and be on my way lol
@@cameronsienkiewicz6364 Try dropping a few teeth on the rear, maybe try a 40 tooth, it'll make your bike much more rideable. Also, try a bigger jet in your carby. But not too much bigger. The best thing to do is buy about 5 jets, going up in size, and try them, until it starts spluttering, and flooding, then go back one size smaller.
Bigger sprocket on the front, and smaller on the back give top end speed. So, my 1st gear was like a second gear with standard sprockets. It gave me a top end of about 110 MPH. It also gives you "longer gears", (more time in each gear). My bike was ported and polished, with larger jets. It was a beast, but just amazing to ride.
i can only wish about having such a bike like that
work hard Martin and good things will come your way
okbetoing
Work dude work a lot
Me too

I have a love-hate relationship with tear down videos. On the one hand, I’m fascinated by taking something apart, finding a problem and then putting it back together better than when you started. However, on the other hand, I am deathly afraid of getting to the end of the project with a handful of bolts left over...
haha, I hear you brother!
There's nothing to be afraid of. Confidence in yourself will get you everywhere
It's not scary. But to avoid the mistakes, I like to be sure I have everything I need for a rebuild, (all the new gaskets and everything), so after I tear it down and fix it, I could put it right back together with fresh memory. The probability of you forgetting something during the assembly goes up in direct proportion to the time between the tear down and the assembly, (unless you are very well organized and even made notes). Just do it, don't make the same mistake twice, and you will get good at it.
It is not scary to find out you have forgotten something. But it could be scary if you ride it that way. :)
To add, (just thought of this): If you are scared of doing something wrong that you put a good effort of thought into, (like building a bike), is it because you are scared of failure, or scared of learning? It is not scary. It is fun. :) Plus, it is opportunity. Don't be surprised that after you get good at something people want or need, that you can start your own business, and really enjoy the industry, (and the freedom of your great mind with your own business), we built. :)
Iv experienced that a few times so I can totally relate haha.
You got that yz250 for very cheap 👍 excellent work. All the cerakoted parts made the bike look really good. I appreciate you and your crew of friends that put this video and bike together. Always nice to see something older, cleaned, restored, and improved to better perform than when it was brand new from factory. Bike builds are some of the most satisfying videos in my honest opinion.
thanks brother, glad you see it that way! bike builds are super satisfying, work on them and watch them as well
I like the fact that you show how to pack the bearings a lot of people don't know how to great build video keep up the good work love the channel
thanks a lot brother, appreciate it!

I have a 125 cc yamaha 2 stroke and this video helped me to learn more about it than I knew before
cool, glad to hear that. thanks Dimitris
I'm going to have to be completely honest here; THIS HAS TO BE THE ABSOLUTE SICKEST YZ250X I'VE EVER SEEN!!!
Great job on the build
I am going to be completely honest too: I love your comment brother!
glad you like the build! 👍
@@dirtniron 😂😂😂
I love seeing these beautiful 2-strokes brought back to life better than the day they left the factory!
Thanks, glad you see it that way!
Who else watched this video without having their own bike? Amazing bike man
thanks Martin, appreciate it!
@@dirtniron thank you for the reply
Finally, someone who just torque's 14mm bolts 'man tight' rather than resorting to a manual, spending 5 minutes showing us all, then getting a torque guage and only tightening to 'manuf spec' like all the other CZcamsrs.
That aside, great bike, great build & content. Keep it up bud
Whoever dont appreciate a 2 stroke is out of there minds i have a badger 4 wheelier 1989 and it still runs 2 stroke will never fail
I got as far as the swingarm bearings going in and already thinking that this bike will feel amazing to ride.
Lovely work men.
I love watching and listening to these when I work on my bike keep up the good work looks great
Glad you enjoy it! Thanks!
Jay Clarke is the 🐐 of applying decals and graphics. No heat gun, just pure, steady hands.
right on!
I’m 50 yo & never owned my own bike . 😢 I LOVE 2 strokes ! Some how some way I’m gonna save up enough $$ to be able to afford me 1 one day , HOPEFULLY ! I thought I was gonna be able to treat myself when I celebrated 10 yrs of sobriety when it didn’t happen I said oh well I’ll do it when I celebrate 15 yrs clean & sober. That has come & gone . I’ll get one …… one day🤞🏾
get one for sure, the sooner the better ;)
totally LOVED the ride review component too! best 51mins of bike time i've spent in a LONG while! Especially liked the single track at the end. (East coaster here)
Glad you enjoyed it! We have decent single tracks, but sometimes I wish I can ride real woods like you guys have in the east
No hate but I’m not a fan of that pipe guard
Friend, you don't know how my reaction was when I saw such a magnificent reconstruction.
Tears came from my eyes, because I have the same motorcycle (YAMAHA WR 250 2stroke version) and I have kept it for many years, still hoping to find the basic spare parts for the engine. I hope one day to restore my YAMAHA 2 STROKE with people as expert as you.
Great job!
thank you, glad you like it brother!
Man did I love the build... I have built over 45 machines now.. and I always admire a well done build.. watching the way your bike was done is how I do things.. repair and replace everything broken or worn.. all new bearings..seals.. motor parts..frame parts.. rebuild everything then my bikes are new.. and way better ..you learn about your bikes when you rebuild it from scratch..lots of grease..loctite torque wrench.. very important.. and tuning your bike after the build ..then you ride her and are blown away! My 2012 Ktm build took almost 2 yrs of saving and buying parts it was a$20.000 build my dream bike and holy crap it was amazing never had anything ride and deliver above and beyond my expectations as she did.. my buddies have much newer bike and brand new.. they all wanted my bike after riding it and it was the oldest.. she did have 2016 250 sx plastics change out the air box on the 2012 xc for sx box then run newer style air scoops new fender ..put on a 2017 light kit..it looked sharp.. I am an east coast rider and she was a mountain goat.. single track beast that could accelerate like a Russian mig fighter with a twist of the throttle.. you have a great eye and taste in quality parts chosen for your bikes.. and you do it right ! We would get along great ! Thank you for sharing your build I love it.. enjoy her and be so proud my friend.. oh and awesome being on the cover of DB .. congratulations!
Matthew, thats a great feedback, thanks a lot really appreciate it! Thanks for sharing your 2012 build story, I am actually working on 2012 KTM300 right now. Would be cool to chat about your build and see some pics as well. Send me an email dirtniron7@gmail.com thanks!
@@dirtniron I will send you some pics and wood love to chat about it.. so awesome!
@@matthewkrisowaty7053 20,000 on a bike build and you have no videos or anything to show it off? Hmmmm what rodeo did you get all your bull s*it?
Longest CZcams video I've watched where I didn't skip or fast forward to the end. Good job, good video.
Glad you liked it! thank you for watching
This is the most detailed video of a rebuild I’ve ever seen. I can’t even skip a second on your videos. Good job Dirt N’ Iron, your contents were awesome! Keep it up man, God bless!

Sick build man, really enjoy watching the good work🔥
Glad you enjoy it man! thanks!

That's absolutely beautiful. I loved the music too. I would have only done 1 thing different, I would have sprayed the petrol tank black. Big love from the UK 🇬🇧
thanks, glad you like it!
This is like my dream bike wow just wow
This is my first time watching CZcams Video from start till the end. Great Job Bro! I enjoyed watching every seconds on it. 👍💪💪💪

I think it’s awesome I watched the whole video and what you did to the bike is absolutely fantastic 👍😎🏴

Incredible job on the videography and build Rado! So nice to see it tore down and put back together on video! The bike looks very beautiful and seems to ride great also! Helping Steve do his KTM was such a long drawn out process. Sure wish it could be done in an hour like this haha! Cheers Rado and Excellent Job all around. Jeremy
thank you Jeremy, glad you enjoyed it! thanks for acknowledging the camera and editing work too ;)
It would be priceless too see you and the old man and Cameron Niemela together for a litle riding and garage time. Best christmas present ever 😀
This is honestly inspiring. Makes me want to get a little shop together and tinker with my own project in the afternoons/weekends. I pray one day soon I can make this happen. Bravo
Thats a stunning yz. Spurs me on to get my 96 restored. Great stuff 👍
Go for it! glad you like it James!
Hey man I got the same thing, they rip hell bud👍🏻

Really like the look of the engine! That bronze color! Personally I would have had a bit more white in the graphics, but still an awesome build. Love these vids!
thanks a lot Peter, appreciate it!
This is an absolute beautiful build and bike!!!! Very, very impressed!!!
What a great build I’m doing the same and I think I’ll keep doing it for like ever
glad you like it!
To anyone who sees this have a great Christmas 🎄🤙
Merry Christmas Ezra!
that build is freakin awesome!
thanks a lot, appreciate it!
Spared no expense! I can appreciate that. You have great taste. Cheers
Absolutely beautiful
thanks Gordon, appreciate it!
Sinceramente cara, ver uma moto sendo reconstruída do zero até essa perfeição é muito prazeroso, a moto ficou espetacular e muito bem preparada... Um grande e ótimo projeto, muito bom, gostei.
Watched the build from start to finish. Amazing final product. Great build!
thanks Sebastian, glad you like it! glad you watched it all, bit long video I know.. I didnt want to leave anything out ;)
Another A+ Build Rado. I always enjoy these builds you do! I gather a lot of great ideas and motivation for my projects, even if I am a lazy couch quad rider!
hahaha, thanks a lot Patrick, glad you like the build!
What an awesome build ! really cool job. Not the parts I would have selected but I would also have gone for a motocross bike and not an enduro.
But man the end result is astonishing. Great job :)
thanks a lot Jens, glad you like it! what other parts would you use?
@@dirtniron More carbon fibre ;) triple clamp. Then I would have opted for the fmf titanium blue canister exhaust. But then of course the budget also increases. And also I would have polished and milled the gearbox for less friction and durability. and the R tech restyle kit with the other gas tech. :) No hand guards. ;)
Amazing!!
Thank you! Cheers!
This gave me inspiration to start learning about bikes and motors. Thanks!
So great! Really love following along this and you can really well see how it's done, love it!
Thank you Andreas! glad you like it!

That was terrific..thanks for taking the time. I liked the music at 38:00 best.
thanks Jack, appreciate it!
super nice build watched it all would love that bike
Thanks man, appreciate it!
they guy talking about the bike sounded like Vaun Gitten jr a bit but in a higher voice at the end of the video.
An amazing job but he should have straighter the Radiator fins
Das ist keine Kunst... Nach wie vor baut Yamaha die yz 250. Also alles neu bestellen was man braucht austauschen und los geht es... Lächerlich... Wo ist die Kunst?
Amazing ist da garnichts
Quando a moto cai em mãos certa 😍
I’m a Honda guy, but this it the best yamaha yz builds ever!!
Thanks man 😉
What would the rough total price of a similar build like this be?
similar to a brand new YZ250
Aka $7,500
So how much did the build cost? Trying to figure out what i'm in for for my build.
it’s was 9,560 total cost
@@MotionJosh 👀
you can do decent build for 3-4k, this one was more than that.. similar to a brand new YZ250
I had only planned to watch the tear down and skip to the end product since I've never seen a modern bike tore down to bare bones but I became engrossed in the entire process and couldn't look away. Great video. I did a bare frame restoration of my 1973 Suzuki TM 125 when I was 15 by myself except the bottom end was fine, only did the top end and didn't have to replace every bearing and seal throughout like this one. Though I have not had much to do with motorcycles since the early 80's other than watching races, it's not like I was unaware of technological advances but seeing this gives me perspective on why modern bikes cost so much, inflation notwithstanding. If I was 15 now and trying to rebuild something like this......I wouldn't LOL.
Thanks for watching 👍
Great build Dirt n Iron!
Nice mix of parts. I really like the colour combo and D and I graphics.
The only thing that made my ocd kick in was not straightening out the fins in the radiators.
Top effort mate and I hope you get many miles of enjoyment out of that weapon,
Cheers 🍻👍👍
Nice bike. Just about as nice as a 2019 ktm300xcw. When you coming out to Florida to ride?

I feel like a plastic skid plate is a lot like a mesh condom.
That's not a plastic skid plate. 😂😂😊
@@ericmacnichol3791 Well its certainly not metal, unless your man there is the hulk given how easily he's bending it.
@@cannabiscraftsman1278 Since it seems like more than one person wants to act a complete fool in the replies, heres the link to the plate he used. **From the manufacturer "Made of 8mm HDPE plastic" **

Superior to metal because it slides over the rocks where a metal one just grinds. They are incredibly strong and don't deform when taking a big hit.
@@DerangedOffRoad Bro, the guy in the video bent it with his hand. If you're trying to say this guy can generate more force with his one hand than a dirtbike hitting a rock at full steam, just piss off lol.
Love that burnt bronze cerakote
Nice rebuilt....owesome I love it to watch.
Say hellow from Bali Indonesia...Oedi.
This Yamaha yz 250 looks nice
Wow ❤️ what a stable machine. Real art 🔥🔥
The bike is beautiful. I had a Suzuki RM 125 years back and it needed the mod you did to this YZ, to liven it up on the bottom end.
Of all the dirt bike builds I have had the pleasure of watching in CZcams, this, by far, is one of, if not, the best. From $1,000 to a beautiful done and well thought of machine. it's a keeper for me, if it were mine...thanks buddy. I love the vid.
Wow, thanks! glad you enjoyed it
Another great time lapse build! The cerakote looks sick! You pick great music for your vids!
