Return to the beloved Johto region first introduced in the Pokémon Gold and Silver Version games for the portable Game Boy system with Pokemon HeartGold. Several new enhancements for the series, such as updated graphics and touch screen features, and enrich these timeless adventures. Both games feature detailed graphics that spotlight the unique environments and hundreds of Pokémon that players can encounter and catch. Players can even see and interact with their favorite Pokémon outside of battle, selecting one from their team to follow behind them as they travel through the Johto region.

11 videos left for new game plus so close to being done
@@mrmysterious8124 I second that
I always skip the first minute and a half of these videos cuz it’s all Commercialized BS
This game released when I was going through combat medic training in the army. I swear, like almost half of us bought the game and would wear the pokewalker during runs in the morning and inside our belts throughout the day.
One day we had a surprise shakedown and after about the 5th one our sergeant found on us he started screaming what in the actual fuck is this??!! He was amused when he found out and allowed us to keep them instead of confiscating them. Was really funny to see so many grown ass men worrying about being caught and then relieved they wouldn’t lose their walker.
Thanks for a good chuckle haha
That's a fantastic story
The Sergeant was secretly a Pokémon fan and tried to hide it
Well, the walker itself is basically a pedometer with tons of extra features. It was small enough to be kept out of the way. As long as, y'know, you kept play to play time I'd see no problem with it.
Glad your sarge was cool about it.
Sarge, don’t front, you knew exactly what that is 😉
@@keystep8669 dude, the army was a hilarious experience for me. A shitty one at times too, but some of my funniest/best times occurred when I was in.
I still remember getting Heartgold years ago, getting as far as Buggsy's gym and losing sleep because I was so excited to play it more the next day. How times fly. This was the second pokemon game I ever played through.
The original Gold and Silver were my second Pokémon games :/
Thanks for sharing! What was your first?
Platinum was my first Pokémon game, Heart Gold was my second. Memories. :)
@@papableeks9738 Pokemon Y.
You think Bugsy was tough? I'm STILL having PTSD from that damn Miltank way back in the Crystal days
14:55 the legendaries used by the frontier brains are actually allowed! The ones you can't use are the "main" legendaries like mewtwo, lugia and ho-oh
Thanks for having me, Jirard! It was a pleasure to complete these games with you!
... I still can't believe you got a Shiny Donphan, though. I'm jealous!
I find it neat that he can transfer that shiny to Gen 8 if he so desires. Always found that to be awesome. Even from the GBA games to Gen 8 as well.
I think the thing you should be questioning is why he named it OnlyPhans
Didn’t know you were a former editor ( I knew you were before the pandemic but must have missed the update)
Seeing this video is amazing. And just wondering because I don't remember, but didn'y you do editing for chuggaaconroy?
Elias Brattfjord Danielsen pretty sure he's doing the weapon intros for Chugga's Splatoon 2 LP
Wow! What a coincidence, I have soul silver on my mind today too as I am coping with probably losing my cartridge for it while still having the box, booklet, and pokewalker here mocking me! Great video as always!
Edit: I FOUND IT! IT WAS BEHIND THE METALLICA CDs WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
So do I
Man, I have the same experience with Heart Gold, except the cartridge has been missing for years now... I live in hope lol
Congrats on finding yours.
I remember accidentaly bumping a tree which got me a Heracross that served me for the rest of the game. Good times.
Such a good type, easily among the best single form pokemon
These games shaped my childhood. Easily my favorite Pokémon games even if they have their small handful of flaws. And how many other games let you go back to the first region that was ever made in the series? Still my favorite and always will be
Agreed, so many memories from gen 2 and HGSS only improved upon it. Best Pokémon games imo.
I agree and it's my favorite to
HGSS. I remember catching ho-oh beneath my covers on a school night.
Shit was SO satisfying.
I absolutely ADORED these games when they originally came out. One of my my favorite parts was the PokeWaker - it felt like magic to load my Pokémon into a Tamagotchi-like capsule and bring them with me to school.
I wish I hadn't lost mine on the bus...

Heartgold and Soulsilver are peak Pokemon. Although I personally feel they're narrowly beaten out by Black 2 and White 2, with HGSS I can frequently start new save files and never feel like my time is better spent elsewhere. Playing them, finishing them, even completing them, they're near flawless in every regard.
Ds Pokémon is the best in general

@@The_Pikaboi platinum goes so hard. Pathetic that the remake was such a disgrace.
@@The_Pikaboi oh yeah most definitely
@@EricDrinksWater why do people love platinum so much? I played it recently and it's nowhere near HGSS in terms of enjoyment. Sinnoh itself is just a bad region
Soulsilver was my first pokemon game so I'm so happy its being covered.
Ditto.
…I’m not one, I swear.
The idea of "heroic heart gold" got me thinking.
A non-buggy, legends arceus-style remake of gen 1 and 2 would be INSANE.
Idk man, 2d Pokemon is way superior and I dont know if they could recreate the mellow, traditional feeling of Johto with their shitty 3d graphics...
13:10 Whoooo there's my Arceus
It was such a great time digging through my old copy of soul silver and joining together as a community to make this living dex. Hope it isn't gonna be too difficult to transfer up to gen 5 because that is gonna take a while.
It does take some time, but not an eternity. I finally finished my living dexes for Gens 1-5 this year (having started back in the summer of 2020 when I was unemployed, and technically in Gen 3 using FRLG and RSE to make things a bit easier) and the process of getting them into Bank was a little tedious but not overly so. Maybe a couple of hours each evening over the course of a somewhere in the ballpark of 7-10 days.
At least Gen 5 doesn't make you wait to transfer once per day.
The funny thing though is that Girard just can't use the Poke Transfer to complete Gen 6 National Dexes...as you need Pokemon from Gen 6 themselves to get the ultimate crowns, hehe. Good thing he won't need Bank for that though, all of the non-event Pokemon can be found in all four Gen 6 games, so he should really just complete both XY and ORAS to complete both National Dexes, IMO.
This kinda hits me in the feels.
The original gold was my first Pokemon game and getting to return to johto in these wonderful remakes was like a dream come true. It had to be the most time I put into any Pokemon game.
I really miss being able to play the fourth generation with friends on the DS. Something about this video takes me back to simpler times.
I always love watching and seeing how much they realize there actually is to complete to 100% every Pokemon game. Quite a few people just don’t know there are so many ways to milk each game dry of content if you’re creative and dedicated to searching far and wide for things to do :) I can’t wait for the reaction to ORAS…
It's a shame that gamefreak (and ilca for bdsp) has released all of the switch pokemon games pre dried of content.
I actually got really close to completing HeartGold back in the day. Specifically, the only thing I couldn't accomplish before Black and White were released was getting the gold emblem for the Battle Factory. I was never great at using the rental Pokémon, and the fact that the Frontier Brain always had better Pokémon than you didn't help.
That's unfair. I never will understand why people like the whole battle Frontier
@@Graf27green it isn't for me but people like the challenge it gives comepared to the rest of the game.
@@keystep8669 it isn't for me either
I've lost to Morton at battle 21 three times. The third time I just gave up because my bubblebeam missed a Lucario.
"Wait doesn't that have max accuracy?" Yes, so I was very confused. But that Lucario was actually rentable on my next attempt.
The jerk held bright powder. I'm still postponing my attempts due to that ragequit last year.
@@noahpokeemon6503 that’s how I feel all the time playing battle frontier. I lost because I missed a earthquake and was completely dumbfounded to how
my mum had sousilver as a surprise on launch day after coming home from judo practice, i immediately started crying and fell on my KNEES lmao, her love still makes me tear up
HGSS are my favorite pokemon games hands down. There was so much to them that is more than just the typical pokemon formula. They brought in the platinum battle frontier, voltorb flip is pretty fun, the pokewalker was super cool and really fun to use, and the pokeathlon is the best side game the pokemon games have ever had. I remember trying to get every pokemon in my box to all medals. The minigames were so fun and creative and they never got old.
Fantastic video Jirard!!! I grew up with silver version (my brother had gold) and hearing that my childhood game is getting a fourth gen remake made me jump for joy to revisit the Johto *AND* the Kanto region again!!! These remakes of the classic gold and silver are so good, there's no other Pokemon games that can match the level as these games are. My favorite addition to this game is getting my favorite Pokemon to follow with me as my companion (plus taking a picture with my team is awesome)!!!! These are masterclass games that stand the test of time as the best Pokemon games and the perfect pokemon remake of all time!!!!!
Exactly what I needed, thank you so much for making these videos!
props to these two for putting in the ridiculous amount of work to bring us another fantastic episode of the show it was good to see these games done again and Bradley back as well
Love you guys! One for my favorite Pokémon remake games. Hope you all continue doing good work and have great fun doing it.
Wow, I didn't even know about that shiny leaf thing until now, so I guess I'm still learning things. Congratulations on the completion.
Heck yeah, my man Yoshiller making his Completionist return!
These games do stand the test of time, and I should boot up my copy to run through them again. For nostalgia's sake.
Sweet! I've been rewatching some Completionist videos the past couple of days, so this is a sweet coincidence!
These are the games that got me back into Pokemon. The nostalgia, the adventure, and all the extras added in. Amazing games.
I actually think this is one of the best games ever released, thanks so much for showing it to people who may not have had a chance to experience it yet
To anyone wondering if they should pick up a copy I have to say this is one of the best execution of the formula Game Freak ever put out
I'm so happy you covered this! I played the pokemon games in a wierd order. I actually got pokemon diamond as my first game and went back to play this one, went played black and white when it came out.
Damn , I remember playing the OG silver version on the GBC when I was a kid. Then, when they released this n got heart gold . I honestly couldn't believe how great this was. I know the plot is bad but to me, the best pokemon game ever made. This and ruby have some absolute great tracks and memories that take me back:)
HeartGold is still my favorite remake of an older pokemon game. The original gold version was my favorite pokemon game at the time, I played Heartgold till it almost burned out lol 😆. Loved it!!
My first pokemon game! Excited to see you cover it.
I wasn’t expecting my favourite Pokémon game to get completed over a decade later, but hell yeah!
That's awesome Jirard completed Pokemon Heart of Gold
Oh snap, love the blast from the past with Bradley :)
Really surprised I couldn't find a vid of you covering drakan the ancient gate its totally up your ally, also great vid as always. :)
This game is sooo good, definitively one of my best memories of my childhood
easily the best remakes out of all the ones they've done to me with ORAS coming in at a close second
Thank you for the video! ❤️
Jirard: "This is going to be the biggest Pokedex I've completed to date."
Me, who made the mistake of completing the Kalos dex: "Don't go any further. It's not worth it!"
but he will, as he's The Completionist. personally i cant wait to see what Gen 9 has in store for us.
Gen 8 has a reduced Pokédex, and said reduction is confirmed for Gen 9 lol.
@@FrostGlader HOME has a true Natdex, and you get an exclusive form of Magearna for completing it.
@@FrostGlader ugh, i do not like reduction, Pokemon is on Switch now, why does there have to be reduction? i'm making a Pokemon Fangame and it's gonna be up to date with 150 NEW "Fakemons" to collect, to hell with reduction that's just being lazy.
@@ArcadianLegend Home is where the Natdex is.
All stupid bits aside, it’s the games specifically that don’t have “True” Natdex anymore. USUM were the last titles with every current Pokémon at the time of release, and ORAS was the last with an actual National Pokédex, BDSP doesn’t count because it’s Gen 8.
I honestly think they should _really_ just give the promise to patch them in batches of like 10 to 20 every Month, in Gen 9, with a couple of DLC batches in between. Maybe throw us a “Every Missing Pokémon patch” for Gen 8 so we can mess around with them. In regards to Gen 8, they really dropped the ball with it, keeping the information that Gen 8 wouldn’t have every Pokémon a secret from Japan’s audience. And if they really want to keep them out for “Game Balance”, then they should have, ya know, _locked them out of Competitive modes like they do with Mythicals._ At least let us play with them in standard modes.
I’m also well aware of the Magearna reward, it’s one of my favourite Comp ready Pokémon that I have.
I'm quite happy to see this video. HG/SS were my very first Pokemon games I've ever got to play from the series. I honestly want to re experience this game again on original hardware, but I think my only bet is to either homebrew my 3DS to have access to those games or emulate it on PC. Either way, I want to play these games again eventually and I'm happy to see you enjoy this
I was very happy seeing this pop up on my feed today
The nostalgia hit as soon as the video start! I love these remakes definitely one of my favorites especially with true following Pokémon. The Pokédex in this game is not easy to complete so collaborating is key and the five stars I’ve never attempted them but they are so freaking hard apparently.
@WhatsApp me⁺¹ ³¹⁸ ⁵⁶³¹⁹³⁷ cool! Just double checking is this an safe number though?
Oh man, this was my first Pokémon game. What a treat to see it again!
I played tons of Pokeathlon during the main story to get special items and evolution stones which ended up getting me a lot of records anyway
HGSS and the Johto experience in general is meant to be done slowly and where you take breaks from the main storyline to do stuff like this or the shiny leaf hunt or chase some roamers and during the grinding for the battle with Red I would work on the national dex and go to the battle frontier to get BP for moves/items just get a break from the grind
Doing each task one at a time is mind numbing for that reason and the level jump to the E4 and Red are jarring for that reason, you are SUPPOSED to take your time since the world isn’t at stake or anything, and that relaxed pace built into the game is what makes it the GOAT of Pokémon games for me personally
Great video! And thank you for your sacrifices ❤️💖 I LOVE this game, but would not do what you just did. Love ya, bud!
Classics! Love these games so much.
I love these games as well
I also started replaying HeartGold this week, and yup. Still as great as I remember it. I can't say it's my favourite since that will always be Gen 5, and I haven't really sat down to rank the games beyond that, but...it would be in the top 3.
I remember when getting soul silver a couple of days after my birthday and played it consistently. Honestly i feel the pain of the pokeathlon dome and agree with but it was rewarding once it was finished. Great video and help me remember good times from all those years ago.
I just want a yellow/crystal/emerald compilation remake for the switch.
i follow you here & twitter and idk why yt doesn't show ya videos (even have the bell rang too) but man im glad it showed me this one randomly you make for calming background noise lol + fav game
Aww, an unevolved Bayleef? What a coincidence! Quilava is my favorite Pokemon, and I also played the game not evolving it! Now we just need a Croconaw fan to complete the trio
A real great game. And a reminder as to why I had more bad memories with HeartGold thanks to the Pokeathlon and Battle Frontier.
Poor kid me couldn't figure it out.
My fav pokemon game of all time, and my childhood most played game. Glad to see
Yay 😁😁 love it when I see you complete a game I love
I remember getting this on the weekend it released, the first game that made me do so. Even though Yellow was my first game, it didn't compare to Gold, and later Crystal version to me. I loved it, my lunch group had pokewalkers which made getting items easy. I also had an action replay, so I was the one people went to for getting their favorite shinies and cloning event pokemon. I went to a convention a couple months later and used my powers to get people things they wanted and actually made my first convention friends that way. I loved it so much.
Jirard's greatest enemy tends to be when a major JRPG has a minigame.
Every time without fail, it's "The game was a joy to complete...then I had to do the minigame for a dozen hours!"
This was my first ever video game. I remember every night in 2010 trying to sneak my DSiXL under my blanket to get my Meganium to lvl 100 and my excitement to finding Red from the manga at the top of Mt Silver and stumbling onto Groudon’s secret cave.
Ending it on the credits theme.. my most emotional track from pokemon... :O
Surprised no one talked about the Poké walker, the step counter.
Gen 2 is one of my favorite gens, gold and silver are easily one of the best pokemon games, even if i haven't finished hg/ss yet,you reminded me that i should, great video!
Gotta catch em all. The completionist.
Good video on the internet.
Just homebrewed a N3DSXL and started this the other day. I’m hooked.
The best Pokémon game
Oh god I am so excited for the Black and White Completionist episode down the road
Dude that Ted-Dex shirt is dope!!! I needa grab me one!
Good lord 400 hours for one game. Thats dedication to complete for an episode
Love these games so much
Very happy to see these games still get love all these years later🙏

Donphan was the first shiny I ever caught back in the original Silver version. I wasn't the biggest fan of it since I don't like elephants but I was still happy years later when I was able to get another one for my shiny dex.
Also very glad to hear you finally have a Living Dex! It's not only a huge accomplishment but a fantastic way to complete future titles since you can easily transfer 'mons in.
Cannot believe you did my favorite game :)
Heart gold was my first real Pokémon game I played through fully. To this day it remains my GOAT Pokémon game
Yes! These are my favourites
Nice to see the BEST games CZcamsr playing the BEST Pokémon game.
Keep it up man (Tho maybe end your Pokémon journey here since getting every Pokémon in Gen 5 or 6 is simply madness.)
Nice you’re checking out Pokémon games!!
This was my first Pokémon game. So it honestly has special roots for me honestly. Used to replay this game CONSTANTLY
I still love that intro.
These are some of my favorite ever games, my day is now made that Jirard made a video on these :)
17:14 Whitney says "Hi, CZcams!" :D
18:45 let it be known.
If you had fished out a sunkern from your living dex, breed it roughly 10 times, you would basically be unstoppable. For some reason, sunkern has every single stat _maxed_
Managed to get a Pokewalker recently, connected it to the game, loving it :D
This game is the reason I got back into pokemon! I wish more of the games had two regions just like gold and silver. Two is never too much.
So… many… medals! 😨 Have to applaud the lengths you went through for this completion! I know these games with these kinds of achievements are more designed to be done over long periods of time, but that seems like so much. Couldn’t agree more with the rating of Finish It. Well done!
Congratulations you have been selected among the shortlisted winner's för the ongoing Ps5 giveaway What'sapp the number above 👆.
Haircut lookin good brotha!
Oh I love Yoshitler
Man... I remember 2 personal things about Soulsilver. I encountered a shiny Hoothoot before I had access to pokeballs, and that I lost the Pokewalker while travelling. Double heartbreaks.
man hgss is super nostalgic for me. I played through them with a close friend instead of paying attention in 11th grade physics class, I cherish those memories to this day. Hope you're doing well Gray, wherever the hell you find yourself these days 🙃
Living dexes are a HUGE undertaking (I would know, I've been working on mine for almost two years now and only have Gen 7 as my last hurdle to cross), but it is SO satisfying to see all of them together at the end of the day.
So here's a question; to be a Living Dex, do I need Charmander, Charmeleon AND Charizard all as separate individuals, or do I just need Charizard?
To make it a living dex, you need one of each - so that you could effectively transfer all the pokemon to a new game and in that way complete the Pokedex instantly.

Oof.
Amazing beard🔥, also OG 2nd gen was always the best to me in the entire series
Wow this is a funny coincidence. I am actually currently doing a 100% playthrough of the Johto games. Both Gold, Silver and Crystal, as well as Heart Gold and Soul Silver!
My first pokemon was Gold. I saw it at a consignment shop for 5 bucks. Figured I'd see what was so fun about Pokemon. Now 20 years later I still hold gen 2 as sacred. Gen 2 and 4 are the absolute best for me. So when HG/SS came out I had to have it. Soul Silver is everything I could want in a Pokemon game. It's absolutely perfect
maaaaaaan i wannnna complete a Pokémon game with this bearded gentlemen! maybe one day 👀
My favourite Pokémon came from this generation. When I first got Mareep I absolutely loved it! An electric sheep? Sweet!
So yoshiller is the chuggaaconroy for jirard? Yay! I'm so glad to find more people who do play on words and puns. I wonder how it would go if chugga and yoshiller ever collab'd together.
The ultimate pun duo.
Everyone: these games were such a huge part of my childhood
You mean the originals right?
RIGHT?!
This game is fantastic. Best Pokémon game ever hands down! And definitely on my top 10 favorite games ever.
I love this game!!
Soul Silver was my second Pokémon game. Despite my original duo of Lava TyTy the Typholsion and Soul Siver the Lugia not beating the Elite Four, I carry them to my newer games. Them along with Blaze the Infernape and Fire the Glaceon, are one of the few surviving “child era” Pokémon from me.
Also congratulations on getting a shiny during your play through! At some point I was replaying Soul Silver, and ran into a shiny Hoothoot in the early stages of the game. Capri is transferred up to Sword, and evolved into Noctowl. Hopefully OnlyPhans gets some fanart, because it’s beautiful.
I didn't play these games until well into the 3ds era of pokemon, but they're what got me into the series. Soul Silver and White are arguably what got me into gaming as much as I am now. I'll always have games that are more important to me like paper mario, but pokemon means a lot to me.
Awesome I want you to cover legends but HGSS is also a fav of mine so awesome video
Holy heck!! It’s time!!!
i still need to play this game. i even have a hand me down pokewalker to use, but haven't seen the game in a local store in a while
