Kennis - great job on your videos. They have saved me hours - thank you.
One suggestion: take a look at Dan Doiron's video on Assigning functions to the expression and control pedals. I don't think from your video that you realize the capability of Assigns. They are not for midi devices. They enable you to assign multiple parameters to the expression pedal and have each assigned parameter engage at different points as you press the pedal.
Example: I could have a flute fade out and strings fade in just by slowly depressing the expression pedal. You can set these parameters within each patch.
Also, I can strum a chord with a string ensemble, press the control pedal to hold the chord, and layer a guitar part over the held chord until I release the control pedal.
Both are very powerful features.
I played at a wedding once with a pianist on the church's acoustic piano. It was slightly flat and with me tuned to A440, the sound just clashed. I tuned to the piano and found that my tuning was A435. So, I set my tuner to A435 for the wedding so I'd stay in tune with the piano, and then set it back to A440 after the wedding.

Kennis, you mention "Nashville Tuning", saying you weren't sure what that is. Well, imagine a 12-string guitar in standard tuning, then taking off all the lower-tuned strings. So you'd have single standard-tuning 1st and 2nd strings, and then just the higher-octaves on strings 3 through 6. It originated back in the old days in Nashville... studios would have an old beater acoustic strung up this way to play a second rhythm guitar part to mix with a regular acoustic rhythm part. The combination resulted in a very rich spread of frequencies that was kinda like a single 12-string track, but allowed variation between the two rhythms, as well. Those guys were clever.
Great video series, BTW. My first Roland guitar synth was the old rack-mounted GR-50, which came out in the early 90s. Around 2000 I took a break from MIDI guitar for several years, but eventually got back into it. Very helpful vids you're making, thanks!
Kennis, the EXPSW selection stands for Expression Switch on or off. The switch below the foot pedal. Great Video series....
Was beginning to think I had made a big mistake buying a GR-55, but having watched your videos I'm more positive. Thanks. Does anyone know though what would be better for live use, a bass combo or an acoustic combo, I've ruled out using my Fender blues Junior
got my gr55 for awhile my problem is the cable is that usually the problem making to much noise when touch the unit to change
7:15 I don't think you grasp how versatile the assign section is. It has nothing to do with external pedals but lets you assign multiple tasks to the same pedal. For example you could use multiple tabs to assign multiple jobs to one press of the CTL pedal.
are there any videos on how to save specific patches to a custom bank for easy access? i can't find any online.. please help

Alright. I took the plunge. My roland gr 55 should be here in a week. I do have a question. The gr 55 does not have an xlr out. I will be playing Direct to our board at church. What is the recommended way to go to the board. Do you go to a direct box from the roland gr 55?

Thanks for the reply back. I'll know more next week when it gets here. I'm just a little worried about the learning curve.
I do the same... send it to a direct box that has an extra line-out that I run to my own dedicated monitor and the XLR out to the board.
