  • The Canon R6 is much like its bigger brother the R5 when it comes to performance, build quality, with the main difference being the 20MP sensor.
Unlike thousands of videos out on CZcams we decided to focus on the photography aspect of the camera. How good is the image quality, low light performance paired with the RF85 1.2 and the new 800mm F11 RF lens? We will let the results speak for themselves:)

The R6 is on my shopping list for shooting live music. I’m currently using a 6D and 6D Mk2, and 20 Mp is plenty, especially for low light. Wish I could have had the 800mm in my surfing photography days. I used an 800mm f/8 with Kodachrome 64 and it was plenty fast enough so f/11 would be perfect with the R6.

The R 6 has the sensor and the processor of the $6500. Dollar 1Dx mk III. The R6 has the ergonomics and controls also the IBIS and focusing system of the $3900. Dollar R5. I don’t have a problem with the price. I can make excellent 20 x 30 prints from 20 mp sensor. I’ve been making prints for 40 yrs. So to me this camera is a no brained for someone invested in the Canon system.

Great video - buying my R6 this week. The ONE thing which everyone seems to agree is that even if Canon bumped the R6 to 24 MP, it would have looked better in comparison to its competition. However, we have what we have. The fact that Z6 II doesnt have flip screen also may help some people steer away to R6.

Count me among those dissing the new 600 and 800 of Canon when it first came out. I'm quite impressed with the shots you managed while shooting them handheld. They are definitely not lacking in detail. I'm not the biggest fan of the bokeh but, it's actually not bad given what you're paying for it. The key there, though, is the AF speed and accuracy of this combo. And looking at the eyes, it locks on well. How quickly does it grab focus in dim/low lighting? Would this be a good combo for the Singapore night safari? Or would that be too dark?

    • @TECH360TV
      @TECH360TV  Před 3 lety +1

  • @MajorTendonitis

I agree with you on pricing . I think $3200 Canadian is too high imo, but unfortunately I’m not into waiting . I also wish it was a 30 megapixel sensor for cropping , even a 24 would have made me feel better about it at this price point .
I would like to do landscape photography and be able to print poster size prints , but the R5 is over 5K here, so that was a hard pill to swallow , plus I don’t care for the upper lcd and prefer the knob .
I’m hoping their next release of the R5 goes back to a knob and a 75 megapixel sensor , then I’ll justify the price for the R5 . One can always dream I guess

You're absolutely right about the price point. Whenever I think about adding a R6 body to my Canon kit to complement my R5, the first thought is always this: "I'm much better off buying a Z6II for below 3k dollars/almost a thousand dollar less without much stripping off(I have multiple systems for different type of work.) When you buy a R6 at almost 4 thousand dollar, you'll be reminded about things I hate about Canon. Stripped off so much stuff and price it higher so the early adopters are reaped off good by Canon. While that Z6II has most of the stuff just like a Z7II and even a bit extra. The Z lens s line 2.8 zooms are top notch, absolute performer in optical resolution, and treats CA magically to almost eliminating them. They just need the s sytem to complete so they can cater to more DSLR shooters to move over.

sir i need your advice in buying cameras
we were looking to upgrade from mid range camera to full frame with in the budget for studio, wedding and other short videos...
even though we use shoot both photos and video mostly ,
a little higher preference for quality photos.
one of our senior suggested us to go for mirrorless in canon or sony both for video and photo shoot..
when i compared the difference inbetween 5D mark -iv, eos R and eos R5...
mainly i observed that the number of focus points varies from camera to camera...
    where
    eos R have 5655
    focus points
    5D mark -vi have 61
    focus points
    and
eos R5 have 1053 focus points
I dont know how far having more focus points plays key role irrespective of having 15 mega pixel lesser than eos R5
After watching your video is it right to got for eos R rather than going to eos R6 or eos R6
or need to look at Sony a7R IV
pls give us your valuable opinion which can help us ...

For an extra CAD$1500 to upgrade to 45 mp I felt it wasn’t worth it at this time. It’s a great nifty camera and people using it will be happy. @@TECH360TV I agree 100%, it the price was a little cheaper then it would be fantastic. I am unsure if the price hike was the result of the pandemic (thus supply and demand) or just marketing of the cameras that in the end failed because of the initial overheating issues. My question is, in the intense heat of Singapore, does the R6 overheat? Because it is cooler in Canada (at least now) it does not so we have an advantage.

i was Fuji X series for 5 years. Earlier this year i bought a Canon 5D mk iv. Big mistake. Not only were the EF lenses softer but the body created more camera blur at lower shutter speeds (accepting this could be my hand steadiness more than the equipment) but the results were poor compared to Fuji. i was about to switch back then the R6 came out. Bought this and so far been using with the RF 50mm f1.8 stm lens.
Wow!!! not only is it a beautiful camera to use and navigate around; it simply produces pin sharp and perfect images. it is simply perfect i would argue for anyone except very specialised professionals who's clients expect very large prints. My clients will be completely satisfied with the images even from this RF lens so the other lenses must be more than anyone would require.
The body is small and light; without it seeming greatly smaller than the 5d mk iv. Anyone who is wrecking their head deciding if to switch. Just do it. the R6 is brilliant. ps i thought i would miss the top screen but i haven't at all. looking at the back screen is so easy and probably quicker than using the top screen on the 5D mk iv
I hope i can inspire anyone to get this camera body as it will bring a lot of satisfaction and confidence, which without, photography is a nightmare

Great review as always, but 20mp for wildlife is too low for cropping. 30mp would have been a sweet spot and would have replaced the 7D MKII. Stay Safe

  • @Vaptomwen
    @Vaptomwen Před 3 lety

It’s hard not to view 20mp as a downgraded R5, but I know many pros who swear by the legendary 12mp Nikon D700, there’s the 16mp Fuji XT1 after which they went a little down hill, Nikon DF 16mp all of which have been fantastic, I agree about the high price ,but all tech companies are doing that now, just look at iPhone 12. However I’m on the fence a little on the omission of cfexpress as it’s not so cheap.

Just depends if you need high megapixel or not or if you are photographing wildlife in lower light situations or daylight. Both cameras perform almost exactly the same otherwise.
One bonus to the R5 is the CF Express Card slot as there will be no buffering issues when shooting high burst modes for capturing wildlife.

I started with Canon and still have my original and ancient Canon 50D which I will never give up. Canons have some of the best color science. Their sensors tend to be behind in technology to the competition but they make it up with the color science. Images just look so good.
$2500 American.... I think that's an 'Ok' price. In 2012, I bought a new Canon 5D MKII for $2k. So it was already 4 years old and a good deal discounted. That had a 21MP sensor. That camera was used in all sorts of professional fashion work in the industry for like 10 years. The camera is legendary. I have plenty of photography from it in my current portfolio. Sharp and excellent color.
Now, the R6... 20MP... Totally fine for magazine-print work. Superior AF. Superior ISO. Superior DR, Superior and flip screen. Probably superior video functions. EVF. Dual card slots. The only thing the R6 doesn't have is a top LCD.
So, the R6 is actually a pretty darn good professional-level camera. The only camera I can compare the R6 to is the Panasonic S5 which shares many similar features and is price $500 lower than the R6. Or the fantastic S1 which may be superior to the R6 for the same price. Well, except maybe for the AF.
But wait a year and wait for the price drop to $2000. At that price, if I was a Canon user, I'd be all over the R6.

I feel like I’m rewarding Canon for something that is a little inferior. The 20 MP just bugs me a bit. I guess as a system being able to put a 800mm lens on it makes up for some of that high price.
