Made a new pinned comment cuz I think it's important and relevant to the topic of fascism. If you want to read a bit:
    - Free Palestine
    - Zionism is not equivalent to Judaism, anti-Zionism is not anti-Semitism. Please read Mohammed El-Kurd's excellent piece titled "Jewish settlers stole my house. It’s not my fault they’re Jewish."
    - Anti-semitism continues to be a real problem that I care a lot about (being Jewish myself! And expressed for example in this very video. And in fact I have direct experiences with anti-semitism). Now, we will please focus on Palestinian justice for the remainder of these comments I wish to share.
    - Palestinians have a right to resist, including with uses of violence, including and most importantly organized resistance intended to overthrow their occupiers who, in the past century, have never attempted to peacefully right their own wrongs. Most clearly and fundamentally, right of return and self determination for Palestinians has NEVER been an option Israeli government considered. Hamas' ideology and actions, not monolithic and at times wrong, are overwhelmingly rooted in the development of Palestinian independence and self-determination and in the legitimate grievances of Palestinian people. The US propaganda line of endlessly delaying ceasefire until some theoretical time when Hamas is no longer operating and no longer the official representatives of Palestinians, even if it were somehow possible, would be wrong and in total opposition to self-determination. The US approach is a racist colonial, imperialist approach just like the approach the British took and the approach the UN took leading up to 1948 as Palestinian representation was ignored and bypassed at every turn. My recent video, "Marked By Violence", explores the different characteristics of violence of the oppressed and violence of the oppressor.
    - Palestinians are indigenous to the region, and on a broader scale Arabs are indigenous to the broader region. For those who do not understand this, a simple way to learn about it is to learn about semitic language and its evolution. Arabic is a direct descendent of ancient semitic language (just like Hebrew). The legacy of peoples who existed far before the Jewish people formed continues today in language. Jerusalem itself traces its etymological roots back to Canaanite language and culture, likely referring to a Canaanite god Shalim, using the same S-L-M root, found in Arabic as well as Hebrew (Salem, Shalom). Many Palestinian villages trace their names back to Canaanite times, some names recorded in Ancient Egypt thousands of years ago. History did not begin 2500 years ago with the Kingdom of Judah. There are Jewish Palestinians who are indigenous to the region, and no matter who and how many we include in that group (it's complicated), it does not justify a Jewish ethnostate that removes other indigenous people from their land and oppresses them.
    - Israel is a deeply racist country, with genocidal intent that has been put into action before and continues to be put into action. It is directly supported by the USA in particular, a racist, genocidal empire that stole the land it currently occupies.
    - I have lived in Israel for one year, I used to be almost fluent in Hebrew (now it's pretty broken), and I grew up in a Zionist community, so I've been pretty well immersed in this topic throughout my lifetime. I have come to my position through continuous learning, experience, reflection, etc., and ongoing deprogramming of Zionist propaganda that was reinforced in my brain from a young age. My position today is self-determined, thorough, and intentional. It continues to develop but I am confident in the robustness of its essence, because it is extensively demonstrated to be true through practice that tests its robustness against objective reality.
    - Zionist accusations are almost always confessions, this holds up remarkably well and you will learn a lot just by remembering this and doing research based on Zionist accusations.
    - Leading Zionists (in terms of power), with the Haavara agreement, helped break the boycott against Nazis and fund them in 1933, in the interest of gaining economic advantage in Palestine as they developed the colonial project. Israel supported apartheid in South Africa. Israel supported nazi-adjacent militants in Argentina in the 1970s, who then committed anti-communist massacres, murdering ~2000 Jews, maybe more. Israel supported various other colonial projects throughout its existence. Israel implemented numerous racist practices against non-white Jews, such as the Yemenite communities, and continues from its colonial legacy with power consolidated primarily amongst white European Jews. Early leading Zionists (in terms of power) often held explicitly racist beliefs, developed from the same debunked European race (pseudo)science roots that birthed Nazism. For example, Arthur Ruppin, who played a major role in founding Israel, believed that Jews had a degenerate racial aspect characterized by their semitic side and should try to purify their race through the national project of Israel. Most significantly, Zionism committed the Nakba against Palestinians, committing numerous massacres, depopulating and destroying many villages, displacing ~750,000 Palestinians in what was a comfortably populated and developed region before modern Zionism took root. And ensuing 75 years of occupation and oppression and continuous violence. These are just some of the expressed characteristics of Zionism that describe its essential character, or as some might put it 'show its true colours'.
    - Following the previous point, while a diverse array of people are Zionists and express Zionism differently, and not all Zionists are fascists, and not all Zionists have the same conception of Zionism, it remains TRUE and PRESENT that Zionism systemically developed in practice as a European fascist colonial project, sharing the same racial roots that are at the essence of Nazism and other fascist projects. And it has developed upon these roots that continue to express themselves in the horrors we witness today, and supported widely by the Jewish Israeli population for whom the 'Palestinian' and even 'Arab' more broadly have become totally dehumanized.
    So, once again,
    And with resolute determination,
    FREE PALESTINE

The Boxer "Johann Wilhelm Trollmann" , "Rukeli" was his nickname, was a real Person. With the white powder he ironically imitated The "arian" ideal". He was killed in concentration camp "Neuengamme" near Hamburg 1943 for beeing a Sinto. Years before he has been sterilized.

I know there are some characters in Babylon Berlin who were real people but didn't know Johann Wilhelm Trollmann was one such. Thanks so much for that, glad to read a bit about him. And yes I think they conveyed that well with the white powder without stating it explicitly. This is what I thought when watching it, that it was a kind of intentional 'white face', as you said to ironically imitate the aryan ideal being hurled at him. His internal world is very sturdy, I feel.

I'm not going to remove a comment like this but it pains me to see it with so many thumbs up. It creates a gross false equivalency, communists and nazis are not 'equally bad polar opposites', this idea only serves to distort what communism actually is and what communists are and do. Communists were and are at the forefront of struggle to improve the lives of oppressed peoples and the majority of people in general (the two things are directly connected).
It would be ridiculous to just paint communism and communists as just some wonderful fantasy land of awesomeness. But your comment actually plays into that kind of distortion.
In fact, these things take place in messy reality, and with lots of problems. The presence of lots of problems, failures, sometimes huge mistakes or harms, does not mean that communism - a philosophy - or communists - human beings trying to struggle against oppression - are 'bad' or 'wrong'. It means there are mistakes that must be learned from, people and ideas that must be held accountable. One of the wonderful things about communism and communist struggle that gives me hope is seeing how exactly that happens, ideas develop and there is a lot of effort to hold past mistakes and harms accountable, and adjust.
At the same time, thankfully communists have never done anything like what the nazis or other fascists did, or what capitalists and capitalist nations have done. The degree of suffering and destruction brought by these systems and philosophies is immense, and they are specifically constructed upon harm and destruction delivered hierarchically. There have been serious harms done by communists, but it's a totally different ballpark, and a healthier construction. In fact even under Mao's revolutionary years and through the years of the Soviet Union, despite mistakes abound, plenty to criticize, these periods mark incredible improvements to life expectancy overall and there were a lot of amazing things happening that many people were excited about and feeling god about. I highly recommend a 10 hour documentary called How Yukong Moved the Mountains as one way of developing more perspective that isn't coming from the same anti-communist propaganda and social consciousness that I think most of us in this CZcams space are exposed to day to day.
I am me. I'm not super into labels. But if I were to choose a label, I would proudly call myself a communist. I care immensely for my fellow human beings and try to remain immersed in struggles against oppression which are intimately known to my own life and the lives of my friends, and also to the majority of people around the world who are struggling with feelings of powerlessness. Communist philosophy provides an immensely valuable groundwork for building power in oppressed peoples and is an inseparable ingredient for any path toward healthy development for this planet and all its lifeforms.
Another recommendation, there is a wonderful book that is an english translation of Vietnamese Marxist-Leninist philosophy. If you search "CURRICULUM OF THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF MARXISM-LENINISM" and find the archive .org link you should find a free download of this book.
This is not just philosophy to wallow in, the idea is that it provides framework of analysis to help you exist in life and develop your actions. It can feel abstract while reading it, until you find yourself presented with a problem and pulling on what you've read to help you approach it and make necessary judgements!
Anyways it's free to read so I hope the recommendation is comfortable to share.
So many aspects of our society that would generally be called 'progressive', from workers rights to women's rights to queer rights, to black power and power to people with disabilities, are the direct result of immense struggle by communists. I have tremendous respect for people who immerse their lives in these struggles, whether their names are remembered or the vast majority who's names are lost in the noise, but who's impact is full of life and continuing energy.
The world is in a rough place right now and I think it's no coincidence that communist organization is also arguably in a weak place, having been shattered over the last decades by intentional warfare and propaganda. A rebuilding of communist power would be a wonderful thing. I hope it can be achieved, and I hope it can be expressed in a diverse and iterative manner reflecting the expansiveness of human beings. It has shown itself capable of this in the past (learn more about it!!), and it is rooted in values that encourage its continued expression in this manner.
