Breaking the Fast at the World’s Largest Iftar

  • Each night of Ramadan, thousands of pilgrims come together to pray and break the fast at the holy shrine of Imam Reza, in Mashhad, Iran. It’s the world’s largest iftar, a meal eaten after sunset by Muslims observing Ramadan to break their daily fast. Cooking for such a crowd starts early and goes long. Over 400 volunteer chefs arrive at 5 a.m. to make culinary magic from 2 tons of fresh vegetables, 3 tons of meat and 4 tons of rice.

    Looks nice but you should see the poverty and the growing crime in the streets just outside the Shrine and throughout the city. The organization in charge of the establishment (Astane Qodse Razavi) receives billions of donations in local money, owns numerous companies, huge properties, and farms, is tax exempt and is not audited. The head of the organization, Ebrahim Raisi, is a cleric involved in the 1988 mass executions of leftist prisoners. The grand Imam of Mashhad, Ahmad Alamolhoda, his father-in-law, is a crazy hardliner who has been opposing any music concerts in the city.

      I agree with you cause im living in iran and understand you but i think this is a picture from our positive side being a muslim despite all of these hates you see these days against islam and muslims we could just let this short video reflect a positive side of islam...not only these things you say is not related to islam but these people you were talking about count themselves as muslims but they're not...we all know that...and its hard for non muslims and foreigners to explain these matters...so i invite you to be peaceful at least in a media like this where we try to reflect the true islam

      This is not the avenue for that. If you'e going to bring that up, you're challenging others to bring up the worst in other faiths and ended up with a mudfest no one will come out clean afterwards. Don't sink to that level.

      MrStsti aren’t leftists communists do you have any idea how many leftists murder religious people also if music is not okay for us Muslims there’s no reason to complain about the music listen to it in your country

    • @MrStsti
      @MrStsti Před 6 lety +1

      A leftist is not necessarily a communist, and you don't just execute people and deny it for 30 years because people from the same school of thought once killed religious people. An excerpt from Amnesty International report:
      ...Many of the dead had been tried and sentenced to prison terms during the early 1980s, many for non-violent offences such as distributing newspapers and leaflets, taking part in demonstrations or collecting funds for prisoners' families. Many of the dead had been students in their teens or early twenties at the time of their arrest...
      They didn't even give the bodies of the dead to their families!
      Check the wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988_executions_of_Iranian_political_prisoners if you want to know what happened.
      And regarding concerts, in Iran many do not consider themselves muslim, many are muslim but do like music, and the permits for concerts were given by the government and local authorities, even under their very strict laws about the type of music they consider "halal".
