Breaking the Fast at the World’s Largest Iftar

- Each night of Ramadan, thousands of pilgrims come together to pray and break the fast at the holy shrine of Imam Reza, in Mashhad, Iran. It’s the world’s largest iftar, a meal eaten after sunset by Muslims observing Ramadan to break their daily fast. Cooking for such a crowd starts early and goes long. Over 400 volunteer chefs arrive at 5 a.m. to make culinary magic from 2 tons of fresh vegetables, 3 tons of meat and 4 tons of rice.

What a wonderful custom! It’s so nice to see these stories about, unfortunately, places that have more negative representations than positive ones!! Thank you what a wonderful story !
Mary Jane Smith Iran and Iraq have their own beauties in their own special way. All it takes is to look past the assumptions to see it.
Sometimes, when something is very good , excellent and great , some people say bad and negative things a lot about it. And unfortunately it's Iran's story , that some people say negative and bad about Iran , despite all of great places and very veeery kind and simple people in it.thank you

Only the shia Muslims have really come together time and again. Where else will you find a gathering of this many muslims like this? In the pilgrimmage to the Holy shrines every year and the jaloos all over the world. #mashallah
Not really I believe, prophet's masjid(Madinah) ,masjid al Haram (Makkah) Sheikh Zayed masjid (Abu Dhabi) and many more hosts iftar Hajj, Taraweeh, Umrah, Makkah, Madinah, like there are many places sunni come together and also hosting iftar is done all over the world in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia etc.
Nor shia nor Sunni only muslim together we strong united ummah
Umm, Karachi, Pakistan has hosted a suhoor of around 20,000-25,000 people all together. Shias, sunnis, even non-muslims were welcome. You should search JDC Sehri in Karachi it might probably one of the biggest suhoor in the world.

The largest iftar in the world is in Mecca, Saudi Arabia (Al-Haram area of Mecca) that servers 1m people.
Respect to all of you for all organizers.

This is the side of muslims that media doesnt show
Yeah just look at all those free women!
The media here shows a lot of good about Muslims. I rarely see anything negative about them unless I'm watching Fox or a neo-conservative station. There's good and bad in all things though (namely people; not necessarily the religion. People will always be flawed).

My mouth is salivating that food looks so so good
I guess, nobody heard of Makkah, I was there in 1998, over 1 million ppl broke fast during Ramadan almost every night, not sure about the last 10 nights though, could've been much more. All the best to all my Muslim family for the rest of Ramadan and have a joyous Eid ul Fitr.
Ma Sha Allah
I think the largest iftar is at the holy mosque in mecca.
by far more that 1 million.
Do you even know how much 1m means?
Even if be true, we cannot consider and count Mecca with other countries. Mecca or KARBALA ,... are in different part.
Their food is so healthy. Pakistani iftar is a heart attack waiting to happen drenched in fat and cholesterol.this is an inspiring menu.
Lol
Depends on ur fan tbh
Nishimiya Shouko lol And it only gets worse on Eid when we don't have to fast any more. You could eat like 10 samosas while thinking that you only ate two.
I'm Pakistani and I agree.
True that. I actually searched for an iftar video to see what other options are available than "Samosas" and co. Which landed me here. Great video. Would hopefully be in that iftar one day.
I wouldn't mind eating there. 😎

respect in saying that i mean iftar, it is not breaking iftar, but iftar is a time when muslims completes the time of roza.
But what happens if it rains
when theres a catholic video, theres almost no fighting
but a islamic video and everyone starts fighting
I wish to go and enjoy

This is so wholesome.
Doubt this is the largest iftar. There are cities in South Asia with larger Muslim populations and far bigger mosques, like Delhi in India or Lahore in Pakistan etc. But probably the biggest must be Mecca.
still serving a 13000 ppl per day is huge challenge
Mecca doesn't have people gathering to break the fast together. The kaaba is there, but how will they bring the food?
Dayan H Mecca is a CITY, and the Kaaba’ is in an area called “Al-Haram”

An issue in Arabic is that you can speak the same language, but understand differently depending on where ur from
iranians speak farsi (persian) not arabic
kylem1112 first, Persian is different from Farsi. Persian is not a local dialect of Arabic, but Farsi is a local dialect of Arabic.
World Largest iftari held in Madina Shareef and Makkah Shareef where more then 1 million Rozadar iftari arrangements has been carried out

i have always wanted to know the traditional way to celebrate the end of Ramadan
Amanda Koop actualy iftar is what peopl do during the end of the day the end of ramadan is celbrated on 3id el adha its basically muslim christmas as kids eather get close or money
thanks for explaining
No problem
Amanda Koop most of the time its celebrated by a family get together eating breakfast(iftar) in the morning instead of sundown to mark the end of ramadan thus were the special occasion gets its name the eating breakfast holyday (eid al iftar)
eat, a lot
Mashallah
MasyaAllah allhhakbar...
beautiful
So sad to see today muslims are celebrating ramadan while it was sad moments for our prophet M.S.W.(pbuh)and his swabas who sacrificed themselves with hunger and battle with an Israel yahudhis

Beautiful
The title of the video is false. The largest iftaar in the world is at Masjid e Haram in the city of Makkah where millions of believers gather from across the globe throughout the complete month of Ramazan.. There is nothing like it in the whole world if you ever have a chance to be a part of it

That's why Iran United
Was it still be held this year?
13000 ppl doesn't make it the world's largest iftar. Haven't u heard of Madinah. Or Mecca for that reason. Get ur facts right. We subscribe for a reason.

Batman 007 I know what I said. Google Mecca during Ramadan, and you'll see what the government does there
Batman 007 true, but arent the mosques in mecca allways full of people, and even more in Ramadhan?
You are right. The Grand mosque of Makkah has much bigger iftar, but maybe they referring to iftar from one Kitchen.

So basically you skip lunch for a month?
Perry George yea and your breakfast is at 5 in the morning lol
yup. thats right. but only for a month in ramadan.
On ramadan we do not eat anything from like the first azan or from usually 4 am we have to eat before first azan then we fast for like 12+ hours and after magrib or 6-6:45 pm we eat again that's it and we do it for like a month I usually starts in the middle of the month sometimes
And drinks. And snacks. And sex.
its great for losing weight too.

Its nice to see brown people have good custums, just like us in europe and america :D this brings a joy to my heart!
So many racists here lmao.
Islam is not a race.
Because they get butt hurt seeing other people's cultures and how much more interesting they can be than your run of the mill 9 to 5 life.
I haven't seen a single comment that despises Iranians :). Islam isn't a race btw. Just like I'm not a part of the athiest race.
S Yeh I meant sectarianism
S what is racism? Is it discrimination based on 'race' (a flawed term), ethnicity or culture? Can discrimination of faith, belief and religion fall under racism? Some people consider antisemitism a form of racism.

How can you cook without tasting??..
They do taste but not swallow.

GREAT WHITE PLANT EATER maybe they make someone who isn’t fasting taste it!
The biggest iftar?! Even bigger than the ones in Makkah and Medina? I don't think so.
@Comrade Stalin could've said in the title it's the "biggest iftar under one specific criterion" instead of just "the world's largest iftar"
Dang you birds
Whoever volunteered this, they're crazy
Looks nice but you should see the poverty and the growing crime in the streets just outside the Shrine and throughout the city. The organization in charge of the establishment (Astane Qodse Razavi) receives billions of donations in local money, owns numerous companies, huge properties, and farms, is tax exempt and is not audited. The head of the organization, Ebrahim Raisi, is a cleric involved in the 1988 mass executions of leftist prisoners. The grand Imam of Mashhad, Ahmad Alamolhoda, his father-in-law, is a crazy hardliner who has been opposing any music concerts in the city.
MrStsti
I agree with you cause im living in iran and understand you but i think this is a picture from our positive side being a muslim despite all of these hates you see these days against islam and muslims we could just let this short video reflect a positive side of islam...not only these things you say is not related to islam but these people you were talking about count themselves as muslims but they're not...we all know that...and its hard for non muslims and foreigners to explain these matters...so i invite you to be peaceful at least in a media like this where we try to reflect the true islam
This is not the avenue for that. If you'e going to bring that up, you're challenging others to bring up the worst in other faiths and ended up with a mudfest no one will come out clean afterwards. Don't sink to that level.
MrStsti aren’t leftists communists do you have any idea how many leftists murder religious people also if music is not okay for us Muslims there’s no reason to complain about the music listen to it in your country
A leftist is not necessarily a communist, and you don't just execute people and deny it for 30 years because people from the same school of thought once killed religious people. An excerpt from Amnesty International report:
...Many of the dead had been tried and sentenced to prison terms during the early 1980s, many for non-violent offences such as distributing newspapers and leaflets, taking part in demonstrations or collecting funds for prisoners' families. Many of the dead had been students in their teens or early twenties at the time of their arrest...
They didn't even give the bodies of the dead to their families!
Check the wikipedia article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1988_executions_of_Iranian_political_prisoners if you want to know what happened.
And regarding concerts, in Iran many do not consider themselves muslim, many are muslim but do like music, and the permits for concerts were given by the government and local authorities, even under their very strict laws about the type of music they consider "halal".
MrStsti well blame the Iranian government
