For a lot of people this can be extremely overwhelming given all the information in this video, so what I recommend is to just watch at least one section of this video a day until you have finished the whole video, then, repeat at least 3 times. It will probably seem boring and repetitive but trusty me all the information in this video is going to subconsciously be transferred into your brain without you knowing it. It is truly the best way to learn a great deal of info.
    Good luck :D

This is far and away the best introduction to audio production that I've been able to find on CZcams or anywhere else. Extremely helpful for newcomers like me. I recently got the use of a Sound Devices MixPre-6 and have found myself feeling lost while watching Curtis Judd's excellent (paid) introductory course. This excellent basic tutorial will help greatly.

I don't think it matters alot datawise with todays gear wether you choose 16 or 24bit. But you should point out that the typical signal to noisefloor obtainable today by most gear is about 70db wich makes 16bit's 65k levels more than enough for the human ear. You could technically get away with 48khz 12bit and you wouldn't be able to hear the difference between 48khz 16bit or 24bit if your gains is set for optimal s/n ratio. our ears is just not that "fine tuned" for level changes. 12 bit covers 4096 levels wich should be enough to cover -50db wich is about where a young human starts to being able to hear background noise. So if you record a signal at -10db, your ear can't distinguish noise at -60db or lower.

This is the kind of tutorial you really need to watch before make any investment. Usually, the info you get around is more about brands and theirs spectacular specs, but that approach use to be confusing, a waste of time and money rather than useful. What you explain instead is the key thing: what actually these things are about, options you have and their proper use in any situation or need. Thank you so much Dave!.

I’ve done a degree in music which taught me nothing and I mean nothing about music tech. All theory and scoring by Sibelius, that was the closest we got to tech. I’ve always felt like music tech was a huge hole in my knowledge and as an aspiring voice over artist it’s been a source of great shame. Your video has made this whole world so much more approachable. I feel like I’m starting to understand the physics of music and how signal works so that when I go to record an audiobook i know what to do to get the best sound. Will definitely be subscribing, thank you! Xx

Very well done. 👍 Just in case this hasn’t already been pointed out, it appears the narrative around 22:30 is incorrect. After testing the directional mic, the proximity effect and increased bass response is noticeable. However, your comment “[paraphrased] you should have heard the bass increase as I got closer” occurs only after testing the *omnidirectional* mic, which I don’t think exhibited that response. A simple edit, swapping out that line to follow the previous clip might clear up the issue and prevent any confusion. But I could be wrong or missing something. Cheers & thanks for the great instruction.

I am struggling now to get a feel for DAW recording and using my 24 track as an interface device.. I paid some attention to my sound guys and watched from time to time but that doesn't make me much more qualified to engineer sound than him watching me play guitars and sing qualifies him to play on this side of the desk..
