  • In this video, I share the salt dough recipe that I use and also my personal tips & tricks for perfect failproof salt dough.
    Salt dough cookies are for decor purposes only and not made for consumption.
    Salt Dough Recipe:
    2 cups of plain flour
    1 cup of salt
    1 cup of water (you may not need all the water so add a little at a time).
    3 tea bags
    Mix all ingredients together until it forms a dough. Add water a little at a time. You may or may not need all of the liquid. If it's too sticky add a bit more flour. Have fun creating pretty fake cookies!

    Hey Friend, Thanks for sharing!! I pretty much use the same method to make my dough ornaments. I will be making a video on how I make my dough ornaments soon. Thanks for the tea tip, I usually spray paint mine to look like baked cookies. Also, great tip on leaving the parchment paper on the cooling rack until the outer layers dry. My ornaments sometimes get the rack lines in the back. Friend, you crack me up, just like me!! I too have never had luck baking my ornaments in the oven, they always loose their shape. Air dry in the summer time, that's when I get mine done. You have a great dayl!!

    Hi Cindy! first time making these salt cookies and no joke! It's been 5 days and still not dry! I'm glad you made it clear that it can take weeks cuz others don't explain that. They say oh a couple of days...no! it can take 2 or 3 weeks if you want done right and they are not cookies to eat so air dry sounds the better way to go. If I use model magic clay would that speed up the process you think? Thanks again for you videos loving them cuz you say how it is!😊

    • @peepthisyall
      @peepthisyall  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi! In the winter or cooler months, the cookies take longer to dry. You can place a fan in front of them to speed it up a bit. Model Magic also takes a while to firm up. You can make cookies but they will not harden in a day or two and can take weeks to totally harden. They will get hard but it happens over time. 😉

      My friend Joann Barrandey has some from 30 years ago. So if you take care and store them well they last forever. 😊

      Not sure why its sticky. That has never happened to me. How long did you let it dry?

    Love this!!! Can you add acrylic paint to give the baked look (touch of classic caramel acrylic paint)?

    • @peepthisyall
      @peepthisyall  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you! I have never added paint to the dough. I have dried brush with acrylic paint after the cookie has dried. 😉

    So why are some cookies made w this & others with clay?

    • @peepthisyall
      @peepthisyall  Před 2 lety

      Versatility. Some ppl make salt dough because they like it or can’t afford other clays. Some use clay because they don’t want to be bothered making salt dough. It all depends on the crafter. 😉

      many times, but funny thing is that it disintegrates over the years. Some that I made in 1977 is still together but has holes eaten out by dust mites.

    How do you know if the cookies are really dry

    • @peepthisyall
      @peepthisyall  Před 2 lety +1

      When dry the salt dough has consistent color, if when you touch it, it can be pressed it needs further drying. I just make mine way in advance so I know that they have fully dried. 😉

    Is it ment to feel gritty while your kneading it and sort of glitter from the salt grains..? How did you make your milk in the glass..?

    • @peepthisyall
      @peepthisyall  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes it will be gritty from the high salt content and the salt glistens. The milk came that way. The cup is a candle I purchased from Dollar Tree.

      @@peepthisyall its really cool, ive watched your milk bottle vid but in the glass would of been cool if you had made it... Ok, it was feeling really gritty while kneading and i wasnt sure the surface would turn out as nice and smooth as yours... Thanks...
