  • Hey guys! Something a bit different today. Ever tried using salt dough to make cute ornaments? Amazing what you can make with it. You just need a few simple ingredients ‘flour, salt, water, cooking oil’ and you’re good to go! I hope you enjoy this video, and if you’ve never tried using salt dough before, perhaps it might inspire you to try it, or make a big batch and let your little ones have hours of fun too! Rachel xx

Question- do you use hot, cold, or lukewarm water?

I just love the natural look because it looks like bread. I happen to be out of olive oil so I'm planning on using vegetable oil. I would like to know if I can put sesame seeds or poppy seeds on it & if so how to I make them stick? Hopefully they will stick with the milk wash, because I want to try this now. LoL
Please let me know if there's a proper way to make sesame seeds or poppy seeds stick when you get the chance.
Your Nan was really wise this is great for children & doing it the garden instead of inside is a superb idea. LoL
    Your ornaments are lovely!
    Thanks!

Hey there💞 May I know what varnish did you use? Also, is it safe to eat from a bowl made of salt dough?

Of course, however, why would you want to?

I'm just wondering, are they easily breakable? Will they hold up over time?

As long as you bake long enough they are solid so they should last fine over time 🙂

We made salt dough ornaments growing up for our Christmas tree and they last just as long when packed away with care as one would their glass, ceramic or other breakable type ornaments. We found they lasted as long and were similar to ceramic ornaments one can buy in crafts and paint yourself.

May I ask why you add olive oil to the mixture? All of the other salt dough recipes I've seen just use salt, water and flour. Your pieces look really good.

Take a jaw breaker, smother it in crisco, dip it in salt, and eat it. Let me know if they are😂

Here in the States, we no longer end all our sentences with the sound of a question. Maddening to listen to. Other than that, an informative instruction.
